(Old) Late morning for the MMP

Good morning, mumpers! Outdoors, it’s 64 F and cloudy, moving to 87 F. Chattered grumble-towers. I tried to come up with a reference to Pooh with his balloons saying, “Tut tut, looks like rain,” but this clumsy stab was the best I could do.

A few days ago, Mrs. Nott put out some mole poison in the tunnels of the moles in our yard. I don’t know how you can tell if it worked.

Great pic, Hippie.

Flyboy probably has some tips for using one.

They spent a lot of time and money to hire and train you. As long as you don’t make it a habit, and always take responsibility for mistakes, they will probably do whatever they can to not fire you.

You are a good employee and most smart employers try to retain the good ones.

I’m so happy you were there for her. Dang about Max being such a picky eater, that’s not going to help his health is later years.

STOP THAT! We have already agreed that the latest round of ICK isn’t fun, you don’t need to be finding out for your self.

I gotta ask about this. I don’t let Hubs wash my clothes because he doesn’t treat my unders right. Does having both parties being the same sex mean that you both have the same sort of boy clothes, or do either of you have special things that need washed on the delicate cycle? Yeah, I do need more coffee, why do you ask?

I have learned a number of “magic” words I’m willing to share if you run out.

So it was foggy when I got up, but it has burned off now and is 64F.

The painter is supposed to be here around 12, his gf’s mother is bring her home and he wants to get her settled in before coming over. This is taking longer than expected, but that’s the way of home improvements and I’ve gotten pretty used to it. I will be happy when I can put my room back together and have all of my stuff in one room again.

I have PT this morning and will be stopping at a post office on the way home. Hubs will be here, but the painter has already established his rep for always being late, so hopefully I’ll be here before he is. I don’t feel the need to supervise him, its the fuzzbutts I don’t trust and Hubs is horrible when it comes to telling them NO.

Harry has invited me to go with him and put up flying squirrel bark this evening. His GDIL is of course enamored of the big eyed cuties and is making the bark herself. She will be coming with us both hoping for a glimpse of a Rocky, but also to defend her nut paste from Harry and I. It needs salt, but would make great samwiches if she loved us enough to let us eat it. So far, she loves the squirrels more.

Well, that’s about it for now. I should do some stretches before heading out. They don’t really help with the torture sessions, but my body seems to like starting the day loose.

Morning all. Slept in until 8am and can’t eat until my prescriptions have been in me for about 45-60 minutes and have my shots scheduled for 9:30am, so may end up fasting until I’m back from the Kroger Pharmacy. Soccer is planned for the afternoon, but temps are due to reach 96F, so they may shut down practices due to the heat-we’ll see. Otherwise I might get to the gym but with much less activity than yesterday.

Bright Tree, so far I’ve never had more than a sore spot on the arm for any shots in the past few years, so I’m hoping this time will also be fine. We’re at $3.90/gallon for regular here, but taxes are low on gas in Ali-bama. And sounds like Moanday was a day of accomplishments; may 2sDay be as positive.

VanGo, ah the age-old war between bureaucrats and workers…probably dates back to the pyramids…

Flyboy, some days are like that, I often find new bills doubled up at times. And interesting deposits, don’t think I’ve ever deposited that much in cash before.

nellie, always good to see you about the MMP. Good wishes for brother’s operation and peaceful co-existence with SIL. Hope Max’s person is doing well, good on ya for being a responsible neighbor. All the best to daughter, in good times and bad.

Depends if you clipped or grazed…

boo fae, yeah, you had a better reason than I did for not posting. Enjoy your time in Wales.

Knots, hope your Word stops feuding with your thoughts and lets you finish the project.

-Sigh- It’s 83F as I type this here.

JtC, some folks would be frustrated with the painter, but you being understanding of his issues is a good thing. Happy squirrel-watching!!

And all caught up for the moment, check out the daily web-comics and then dress for my shots in the arm. Talk with y’all later.

**

There’s one member (husband has a landscaping business; he, or more usually, his wife, does the banking) who is infamous for coming in minutes before closing with thousands of dollars in mixed bills, or wanting to withdraw $10,000 or $15,000. The vault is ‘closed’ (i.e., the numbers have been balanced and logged, though the door is still open) about an up to an hour before closing time. And this member doesn’t speak English. We do have Spanish-speakers, but sometimes they’re not immediately available. Anyway, the member has been told they cannot come at the end of the day for large cash transactions, unless they give advance notice that they’re coming.

A while back, a bank teller friend told me about their “interesting” customer. He owned a strip club and made cash deposits on a daily basis. Lots of loose bills, not a lot of coins but always at least one Chucky Cheese game token and he bought a lot of fives and ones for change. His special request was that the tellers save up the used bills for him, his dancers got paper-cuts if clients stuffed new bills in their g-strings.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 55F and raining. The rain will end in about an hour, and the rest of the day will remain cloudy, with a daytime high of 66F.

Nellie, so good to see you post again. I’m sorry about your daughter’s cat. I’m glad she likes her new job. People would be lucky to have a kind neighbor like you. Wishing you all the best as you help your brother and SiL.

BooFae, I hope you can stave off the bug and are feeling better.

Bright Tree, I hope you got a good night’s rest, and I’m glad the AH wasps are gone.

Gas here is pretty expensive and is climbing. At the Safeway station right down the road, premium is $5.69 a gallon, but at most other stations, it’s $6.00 or more. Diesel is well over seven bucks a gallon.

Hippie, what a lovely picture of you and your wife.

VanGo, I can understand your frustration with the executive director. Perhaps misplaced humor, but still.

I’ve been invited to a congratulatory dinner for a guy who got the MPA position at my former agency. He’s actually a pretty good worker, and I think he’ll be fine once he gets his feet under him. Still, I’m not sure I’ll go. It’s Thursday, sometime after five, which means fighting JBLM traffic on the way home to get there. Also, I’m not even sure I want to go. I guess it’ll be a moot point if they don’t share the location with me. Apparently, that hasn’t been settled yet.

As for today, I may run out to Costco and then Safeway. I need TP and dog treats from Costco, and some regular-sized groceries for the house. Other than that, it’ll be the usual tidying and then catching up on some trash TV.

Alrighty, time for more coffee. Please take care of yourselves.

SOMEBODY snores like a walrus with a head cold. I can’t believe so many decibels can come out of something you could fit in a breadbox. He actually needs to go to the vet for digestive issues and has needed to for a long time. His person,G, hasn’t taken him because she can’t afford to.

I plan to have a long talk with her daughter today. G. will probably be furious with me for doing so, as the family is like one of those Victorian serials where nobody tells anybody anything and then resents others for not knowing. But the fact is, G. shouldn’t live independently any more. She used to be very tidy, but her apartment is dangerously filthy now. She can’t organize her thoughts so gets little done. Her doctor put her on something in April to help pass kidney stones. She’s never taken it because “she gave me so many meds.” She has high A1C but hasn’t gotten around to picking up the Metformin. To be fair, she can’t walk from her car to the pharmacy counter even with a walker, but though I’ve offered to go with her to do the fetching or even take the bus there, she never wants to go. She forgets a LOT, and her finances are in a scary state. She’ll be mad at me for blabbing, but it’s one of those situations where you’re willing to sacrifice the good will for the greater good.

As for little Max, I think he’ll be going to the daughter of G’s and my mutual friend, Hazel, either tonight or tomorrow. I hope G. gets to see him again, but her own daughter doesn’t want him due in part to the not housebroken issue. G. is SO attached to him that I hope something can be worked out.

Are they mutually exclusive?

Imagining Princess Pretty Paws as a cow made me laugh way too hard.

Thanks so much. Her soon-to-be-ex came over to be there when the vet came. I’d already paid for the cremation. Daughter said the cremation guy carried the late kitty on a soft dog bed, covered her with a fuzzy blanket, and talked softly to her on the way out. A few days later, I got a text from daughter with a photo of a lovely wooden box: “She’s home.”

Damn, I’m crying again.

One of those chores sounds easier than the other. Mowing is hot work. Stay beer-ated.

I can’t be in Chicago for all of brother’s recovery because I have to get shots every two weeks or get truly debilitating itchies, and I can’t get the shots there. I’m chained to the damned clinic. So I’ll be there for the first week post-op. I think one of my nephews plans to go there after I leave.

Do you find their call monotonous? I confess I do, and I don’t know why. I don’t react that way to other bird calls.

So a wimple is not simple.

BooFae, your vacation situation sounds idyllic.

What a great idea! In 1990s lingo, it’s my jam. It really is my favorite. My sister’s cherry-blueberry jelly is my favorite jelly.

Someone has a certain gleam in his eye. I’d better get him outside.

aspenglow, i believe a sturdy wimple was essential for the flying nun. yay! for pumpkin pie. i look forward to this time of year. pumpkin pie is a great breakfast food.

nellibly, i hope max the dog’s person get well soon. that sounds a bit complicated. i hope all goes well there. i just saw your follow up. wow! that is a tough situation.
sounds like a gentle goodbye to your grandkitty.

the office fish are doing well. people are amused by them. as they are accountants they enjoy finding and counting them all. i will do a bit of tank keeping on the water sprite on friday. it is growing well.

Gaaah. Taking a break due to supervisor comments.

Some of them are fine, but…

‘Maybe you should say why [thing] is important?’

Next page and a half are a breakdown of why [thing] is important.

Intro that starts, basically as:

[group1] are organisms found all over the place.
One of the most important groups of these is [group2] which are only found on plant roots.

Comment on first sentence: 'Technically [group2] are only the [group1] found on plant roots.

Also the guidance says that I need to write everything as a stand alone ‘paper style’ report, with a discussion at the end where I should explain how the findings all tie together. So, obviously, every single chapter feedback has had at least one comment of ‘How does this relate to the other chapters? You need to explain how your different chapters all fit in together’.

I feel I should be drinking something stronger than coffee.

Wouldn’t a dog eat eventually if he got hungry enough? FCD sometimes frets that Otis isn’t diving into his food like when he gets some wet food, but he does eventually eat. I assume he’s holding out, hoping for something better. Or is that too much anthropomorphizing?

All went well at the cardiologist. By BP was slightly higher than he wanted to see, but it’s a well-known doctor office dynamic, so he wasn’t concerned. And I don’t need to go back for another year, unless he decides he wants me to get an EKG. We’ll see.

FCD was told to go to the cardiologist also for routine monitoring just like me. He’s the one who recommended Dr.S to me and he’ll get on his schedule himself.

Other than that, I’ve watered my porch plants and I’m making ice. Around 4-ish, I’ll go pick up the rotissed chickie for supper. Till then, dunno. Temps still in the 60s so the house is open. Loverly day!!!

Howdy all. Have been shot twice, COVID in the right arm and Flu in the left, sat for 10-12 minutes to be sure I didn’t have any reaction, and came on home to a big lunch. Will now consider some gym time in a bit (or maybe some ice cream to help me think about it), but major item for the first half of the day is complete.

Flyboy, guess like a lot of folks I’ve become mostly card-based these days, I have less than $20 cash in my wallet and years ago I would be bothered by that, but with my credit and debit cards are there so no worries, right?

JtC, grinned at your story, I guess there will be some use for $1 and $5 bills no matter how automated we get…

Nellie, you are the epitome of a good neighbor. Take care.

Nut, supervisors get their jobs because they are picky to an anal-level degree (at least that’s my opinion and I’m sticking too it). You could probably not change a damn thing and the next time they read it they would congratulate you on the fine changes you made…

FCM, glad the cardio is good.

And just snacked on some ice cream (I amaze myself that I have so much discipline in not snarfing down an entire pint at one sitting, making it last 2-3 days) and probably need to run the dishwasher, so take care all.

This, so very much this. No more things to deal with. Gift certificate to a local bookstore works too, as well as something consumable. If there is a Trader Joes near her a TJ gift card would let her have lots of consumable fun exploring their wide range of goodies including cheese, wine, chocolates and other delicacies.

:purple_heart::blue_heart::light_blue_heart::green_heart::yellow_heart::orange_heart::heart::pink_heart:

Hopefully not by unpleasant odors coming from the tunnels.

In my area, over $6/gallon for gas is getting routine (sigh). So glad we don’t own any diesel vehicle. Over $8/gallon has been seen. My FlexFuel Dart is still costing less than $3/gallon to feed.

Please tell me more:grin:. What is flying squirrel bark? Hopefully not dark chocolate with bits of crunchy squirrel in it. The agricultural extension campus of our state university is very near me and they have a fascinating field study going on of the cluster of flying squirrels discovered in their campus arboretum. I still haven’t managed to actually see one though.

The taping and reboxing part of the sort was pretty bad, I think John Henry and Leatherface must have tagged teamed half the boxes. They had extra Blueberries helping tag the irregs, and put them on the belt. It must have helped, the PDCs and the 200, 300, and 400 looked good. The 100 north irregs we a shitshow as always. which is why I got to stay late, they nuked 2 130lbs fans, and I had to rebox them.

Holiday cold? Bother. Feel better.

Mole zombies.

One time the Food Lion money order machine went down on the 1st of the month, and we got slammed with cash. I did a mid day deposit, just so I didn’t have to mess with a SAR.

Must be from my Chuck-E-Cheese(in the shopping center with the hourly motel. and the nail shop that gets raided by the po-po).

yep.

Well he was brown and white and made “moo” noises. He had a Snoopy level fantasy life.

espresso martini

Happy Tuesday. It is hot and headed up to 100F again. I read everyone else’s weather with much jealousy. Gas is averaging about $3.80 here so I suppose that’s a plus at least…

It’s going to be a quiet day around here. I took the day off and am just piddling around the house and playing with cats. They are apparently done with me for now as they’ve both gone to sleep on the cat tree in the spare bedroom.

If his issue is with urination, a local pet store should carry belly bands in either reusable or disposables. They work quite well for male dogs.

Also it sounds like you talking to the neighbor’s daughter is the best course of action. The neighbor might be mad but it sounds like she’s in a dangerous situation and unable to care for herself.

nuts Good luck with the writing! Sounds like you really are in the home stretch.

I find this incredibly amusing for some reason - and definitely not an expected hazard of the job!

rocker Aquariums are fascinating things, aren’t they? My BIL has a beautiful saltwater tank and I enjoy watching it, but dang it’s a lot of work.

Good afternoon from the road. We got started a little later than we wanted. I took the first leg, and we switched up after we took a pit stop at the Buck-ee’s in Sieverville. We’re now on I-81, and will be on it for the seven hours.

Have a good day, everyone!

Such an involved situation, nellie. You’re good people, and it’s nice to see you posting.

I’m seeing pumpkins in the stores and on people’s porches, but it still feels too warm for eating pumpkin pie. I’m sitting here in shorts and it’s still 24°C / 75.2°F at 7:30 in the evening. Supposed to rain tomorrow and the temperatures are continuing to drop.

I bought organic cream to make ice cream again. The non-organic cream has carrageenan added to it, which gives an odd texture to the ice cream.

Speaking of ice cream, it seems that they are harvesting hay in the field across the valley, or maybe they are baling it. Anyway, it sounds like a giant ice cream maker.

My dad (mid-80s) now does stretches before he even gets out of bed. Makes it easier to get out of bed and get moving. I should stretch more - all the cool kids are doing it.

There was an espresso martini machine on my last cruise. I did not order an espresso martini on that cruise.

Stopped at the grocery store on the way home to get carrots, grapes, milk and yoghurt, and a streusel-topped piece of plum cake jumped in from the used food basket. Got laundry in the dryer and watching the sky for pretty colors.

Next week is the owners’ meeting (5 buildings, with 8 condos each, so 40 condos), so it appears that the outside landscaper is trying to catch up with all the work they didn’t do the previous 3 months. Glad I don’t have to write a stern email, as I had to do in June.

Got a half of a handful of raspberries about 2 handfuls of cherry tomatoes out of the garden area. Not bad for September.
