(Old) Motion To Vacat(ion)- An Off Work MMP

Woke around 2:40 (I think that’s what the clock read) then heard MIL go to the bathroom around 3, and shortly thereafter she was talking in her sleep loud enough to wake FCD. Since I was awake, I finished the latest trashy novel (how does she keep reading that crap???) and finally got out of bed a tad after 6. Our stoopit Alexa is acting up for some reason. Some months back, I found the setting to stop it saying OK every time we turned a light on or off. But yesterday, for no apparent reason, it would respond OK to FCD, then to all of us. I cycled the toggle, but I suspect I did it too quickly.

So just now, I deselected the option and let it sit while I fed the dog and made my breakfast. Then I reset it, and it seems to be working correctly. We shall see. It’s not a huge deal, but it is annoying, especially how often we use the system to turn lights on and off. Lest you think we’re lazy, we set it up for MIL’s benefit. OK, not the ones in the basement, but one gets used to the convenience of saying “Alexa, turn [on/off] the [whatever] lights.” Or being able to turn the living room lights on as the car pulls into the driveway. Or setting the lights to an on/off routine when on vacation.

Quite windy now with possible rain thru tonight. We got a little rain overnight, but we’re pretty far from the storm’s path, so we’re not getting nearly as much as had been forecast a few days back. We’re in a flood-prone area due to runoff farther to the west - not our house specifically, but a few roads around here cross creeks that have been known to overflow their banks. It may or may not be an issue in the next few days.

I need to contact our Jacksonville credit union. I mailed a large check there and they deposited it last Firday. But there’s still a hold on it for whatever reason. I want the funds released so we can pay for all the boat work that’s being done. We haven’t been billed yet, but a freekin’ week? Aren’t funds supposed to be released in 2-3 days?? It’s already cleared the account here. So words will be said.

And I need to make a list for FCD when he goes to the Hyundai dealership today. If I don’t write down everything we discussed, he’s likely to forget something. So he gets a note. On paper, not on his phone.

It’s laundry day, so I’ve got that going for me. I also need to run to Aldi, which means I’d need to take MIL because she wants to go to Target. Her sister said something about them having a sale on knee socks, so MIL has been obsessing about Target. She has about a dozen pairs of socks, but in anticipation of winter, when our thermostat will plummet from 76° to maybe 71°, she wants warm socks. Even tho she’s got an electric throw, which she put away for the summer despite constantly complaining how cold she is…

Enough. Sorry.

So, laundry for sure. Hospice aid coming for shower. Not sure what else is on the agenda. And so it goes.

Oh, and today would have been my parents’ 72nd anniversary. They reached 50 before Dad died. I doubt that FCD and I will reach 70 - I don’t expect to live to 99.

Happy Firday!!

Ok, I’m back and a little less blah. Yesterday was just a lot of everything. So, yes, we did purchase a 2022 Nissan Kicks in a surprisingly lovely orange color. It is an amazingly clean car and I love that the interior trim which is black uses orange thread to compliment it. MusicMan really likes the car which is of course the most important part.

Today I have a phone call which will probably be an informal interview for a virtual teaching position which I think would be more manageable than the in person type. I also have to deal with the whole rental debacle from the accident. Long story short, the vehicle that they gave us is a piece of poo and many miscommunications and much lack of rule following on the agency’s part has occurred.

Now I think I have to go upstairs and, yes, look in the special place where I put MusicMan’s DD214 so that I wouldn’t lose it. :face_with_monocle::wink:

Coppertone, I hope the weather up your way wasn’t too bad last night. I saw that (fortunately) after we got home from Cuyahoga Falls that there was major flooding in the Akron area.

MetalMouse I hope you get your phone fixed and a good nap, too!

FCM, hugs, love, and good thoughts sent your way!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Debby is currently raining on my paradevacation. But it is laundry day!

Put some soothing music on the Victrola, maybe take the Model T for a drive. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay! And good luck on the interview.

Saturday is the better day. Plus, Iron Maiden Tribute on Saturday, real Iron Maiden on Sunday! \m/–\m/

Be careful.

No rain so far. We have a contractor due in half an hour to discuss replacing the windows, so I expect the skies to open then. It won’t matter if it rains when the electrician is here, everything he’s going to be doing is inside today, so if it’s gonna rain…it’s going to do it when someone is trying to measure our windows from the outside.

Bella is quieter today. She thinks that waterbeds are pretty nice places to sleep and is currently curled up snoozing. I’ll give her another 15 minutes and then she will get her morning meds before the contractor gets here and they get locked up.

Diablo has a new expansion pack coming out in October and hubs is all excited about that. He’s been spending a lot of time looking at the the ads and prequels as well as checking reddit. He takes his gaming much more seriously than I do, but it keeps him out of the bingo parlors so its all good.

Achieving Nirvana: It’s all fun and games till someone loses an “I”

Happy Friday!

Woke up to rain, wind, and flickering lights.
So, no park this morning.
The dogs aren’t happy that we had to close the doggie door, but the rain was blowing in and making a puddle on the floor.

I sent a message to irk just in case the power goes out later and I won’t be able to login.

I wanted to shower first thing, but decided to wait a bit. I don’t have to be at the doctor until 130ish. My appointment is 215, but this doctor insists you be there at least half an hour before your appointment time. If I show up at 150, they will reschedule the appointment because I am late. Most of the time I’ll get out of there around my actual appointment time, but not always. I don’t know why they do it this way. I understand it for the patients who are having procedures done, but this is just a ‘how you doing? let me count your pills’ checkup.

I expect there will be a little flooding on the road down by the creek, but I’m sure it will be passable.

Have a fun time BooFae

Congrats on new car Sticky, and happy shopping for one FCM

I keep getting notices from dealerships that want to buy my truck. They offer me all kinds of ‘good’ deals on a new vehicle. I’m pretty happy with what I have, though.
I just bought new seat covers for it.
The old ones were grey, expensive, and a pain to put on and take off. The new ones are cheap, super stretchy, and bright paisley.
I guess I am going through a phase. I just bought new sheets in a bold Boho print, new switch plate covers that have a peacock design on them, a new jacket in a bright Boho print, and fringed ankle boots.
Kind of different for somebody like me who hates visual clutter, and wears and decorates with mostly black, beige, blue, and grey.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 63F and partly sunny outside. There will be a mixture of clouds and sun today, with a high temperature of 88F and 78% humidity.

Congrats on the new rig, Sticky.

I hope a vehicle that ticks all the boxes for both of you is found, FCM.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, Lily. Lovely work!

Hippy, the quilt is beautiful.

We took the dogs to a park with a four-mile loop. I don’t think we made it halfway through. It was too hot, and neither of us had enough fuel. The first part of the loop is through some pretty hilly terrain, filled with roots and rocks that are easy to stumble over, especially when a dog is pulling you down the hill. My husband and I stumbled at different points because our toes got caught on a root. Thankfully, I didn’t tumble into the gulley.

We had the trail to ourselves yesterday, except for one time. A lady was walking toward us, and we pulled to the side to let her pass (and to rest). The dogs started barking at her, which was a first for us. They’ve never been that reactive before. Usually, they want to love on people, so that was different. It’s been a bit since we took them walkies. We couldn’t walk them while Maisie was in heat, then I was on the road, and super busy with work.

I need to find some obedience training because I want them to be able to take walks and respond when I call them, tell them to leave it, sit, stay, etc.

I know I’ve said it before, but things seemed to improve for a while, so I let it go for a bit. This was a big mistake.

Welp, the oven guy is coming back today to replace the element. Waiting for an appointment could potentially cost another good part of the day.

I had to validate my timecard this morning, so I took a peek at my email. Geeze, Louise, there is so much email. I took care of a couple of quick answers and then shut it down.

Okay, time to run. I need to run the dishwasher and get another load of laundry going.

I hope you feel better soon midget

that looks lovely!

I called my credit union in FL to find out when the funds we deposited last week would be available. I swear, it took more than half an hour to get thru all the security questions and such when all she had to say was 2-10 days. Plus I felt like she was either napping between questions (it was a chat) or doing multiple chats at once. In any event, I now know. But dang!!

I probably should have sent multiple smaller checks instead of one big one. Live and learn.

First load in the washer. MIL went back to bed - her shower aide canceled today. FCD is dealing with the GEICO claim. Just another day in soggy, windy paradise.

Cookie, sending you hugs.

Pouring here, and a flash flood watch. I’m on top of a hill both at home and in the shop, but I need to pass through the low country to get from one to the other.

taters Best of luck with the doggie training. Maybe that person just gave off bad vibes?

Must to work, but I donwanna work on the floor. Sadly, that’s what today will be. Gotta do layout of the boat thing.

Your work looks inviting!

Yay for new wheels!

Now that you’ve joined the 21rst century with a mobile phone, is there a reason that you’ve kept the landline?

That was my rental car this spring. Surprising amount of room inside.

Appendages crossed.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, towels / sheets in the dryer, clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP / houseirk. After, I’ll go fill up the gas tank and buy groceries, so, the usual Firday.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

FCD dug his way thru the GEICO “paperwork” and it looks like we’ll get back enough to pay off the note. So that’s good. Still, starting from zero with no trade-in kinda bites. But with luck we can scrape together enough of a down payment to make it work. We shall see.

Second load in the dryer, third in the washer, MIL still sleeping. I stripped our bed, and discovered that the vaseline I’d put on my feet left a greasy mess on the sheet. I was wearing socks - I guess it oozed thru? I sprayed it with a pre-wash - here’s hoping it comes out. Guess I should go put clean sheets on now. This Happy Homemaker crap is for the birds!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Those sound really cool!

The Nirvana joke made me laugh.

I think I’m feeling a bit better today. Yesterday I was very dizzy and had a bad headache and sometimes felt really hot or really cold. I don’t have that today, though I do have a cough/scratchy throat.

Ok, calling it a day at the shop. Weather is crap and getting worse. Last time we got this much rain the bridges across the bottom of the lake flooded out. I donwanna be stuck on the wrong side of town.

MG Hope continue to improve.

Last load in the washer. I’m back from a quick Food Lion run. MIL was up and in the kitchen and looking for a bowl… in the knife drawer… She can’t be left alone - I was sure I’d be back before she woke.

FCD is talking with the dealer. I gave him my note - we’ll see what he finds out.

Q’itih: 2010-2024. Frolic in peace, sweet girl.
