I napped, I dropped some surplus stuff at the one cat rescue thrift store. I was gonna drop off some hazmat stuff, but apparently that section closes at 4 right now for construction. Oh well. Watch preseason handegg, and having a margarita.
Good to hear.

Quite the motley crew. Is there someone in the sliver timeout box?
I’m having some tonight. Gazpacho. Barley Gazpacho. Beer. I’m having beer.
Daughter and her spawn have been fed and sent home. Poor Tobias is very allergic to bug bites. He got a couple-three skeeter bites that swelled up something awful!
Dishwasher is done. Ice maker is making ice. MIL is sleeping again. Chillage reigns.
I did find masa at the Kroger in Logan. Sometimes shopping seems like a scavenger hunt what with all the going back and forth for just one thing.
Thank you! I love how your fence and yard look, please share yearly pics of the growth, I know it will just keep getting better.
Love it! I’m so happy you finally found a happy place that you get paid to enjoy.
It looks so nice and clean.
I have a love/hate relationship with the textured white ceramic tile in the kitchen. When it is clean there is a beautiful textured design glowing in the light which I adore. One drop of coffee makes the whole floor look dirty.
The tiles and appliances and counters all work together to make my kitchen beautiful. I’m so happy, I’m going to make Russian Tea Cakes tomorrow to celebrate.
Evening all. Did my swimming, managed to get 1.25 miles in which is my average and I’m feeling pretty good, so the early wake-up this morning didn’t set me back too bad. Was going to go watch a youth soccer tournament featuring some of the local teams tonight, but they wanted $5 to park and I just wasn’t feeling that, so came on home to my Big Bowl O’Sallid. Might pay the fee and go watch some youth soccer tomorrow.
JtC, glad your kitchen is living up to your expectations. Hope some of the extended family can point you to a source of cornmeal. And trust you got a couple estimates for windows, I got 3-4 estimates when I had my news ones put in, 3 of the bids were close and the 4th was out of this world. Good news about Bella. And I’ll check the battery, never though of that.
shady, great news on the AC, was a bit concerned about that, heat stroke is not a good thing.
J-Bats, being a RDOS I look askance at some folks working, but that looks like a job I could enjoy. Glad you are too.
FCM, hope Toby is feeling better.
And that’s all he wrote. Might check back later if the early rising and moderately active day don’t conspire to get me to bed too early. Take care all.
Thanks for all the good wishes, folks. There is a giant silent hole in our home this evening. I think we’re going to consider adopting another feline friend in the future, but first we need to get some travel things out of the way.
Not in this picture, but we do use them for play breaks if things get too out of control. That silver box is actually the in-wall - like a little tunnel from the other side to let one dog in at a time without opening the play room door.
Hubs has five different contractors coming out to give bids. That is one of the reasons everything has taken so long, he likes to get five bids, throw out the highest and lowest and then compare the middle three.
We won’t be doing this again in this life so we might want to get it right.
It’s been my experience when electric stuff goes wonky is that it needs 1) a new battery 2) a restart or 3) to be unplugged and plugged back in before restarting. If that doesn’t work, percussion therapy is usually helpful. It helps you get the rage out before dealing with replacing it.
More hugs. I know you did what had to be done, but I also know you are still hurting.
When our current furfaces cross the Bridge, we won’t adopt another. We will foster older cats instead. We will have fuzzbutts to spoil and indulge, but won’t have to worry about who will take them in after we are gone.
You must have seen me jumping up and down and fist pumping.
We went down to Bay Breeze for ‘dinner’. Of course we got there before 16:30. We sat in the bar where we could look out at the bay, and also watch Olympic games on the big TV. I had the pan-roasted rockfish (my favourite), and my wife had a bowl of clam chowder that she really liked. I had two Corpse Revivers, and The Missus had a bourbon Sazerac (because they were out of rye).
I cooked the corned beast today (275 Ferrets for six hours, then another hour after draining liquid and removing the cover), and it’s in the fridge ready to be sliced for sammiches.
Long Night wasn’t too bad at all. I’m blaming giving credit to remembering to take a multivitamin before I headed out. Yeah, that’s it.
Nah, we just weren’t terribly slammed. Plus there was a roster switcheroo and one of the managers from our sister store volunteered to cover, so training New Guy meant he had two experienced (and quite brassy, in a good way) women bossing him around so I could just focus on customers.
The following convo happened between S.M. and pinch-hitter from the other store:
“So, how’d the forty-two pepperoni order go?”
Me: thinking someone had the audacity to order a pizza with precisely 42 pepperoni slices on it … no more, no less.
NOPE!
That would be forty-two LARGE PEPP PIZZAS, plus a buncha other stuff. The total order was over a thousand dollars.
Something about a football team, maybe local high school? I was on the phone and didn’t catch all the details.
I kinda thought I might want soup tonight when I got home (it’s remarkably cool, for August!) so since every other business has the audacity to be closed by the time I get outta work, I burned my lunch break running to the store, and now I have several soup options plus a coupla pot pies if I get ambitious.
Go, me, planning ahead an’ shit!
ETA: and double bonus points for remembering to bring them all home from the walk-in at work, before they locked up for the night!
Most tech has made huge strides in the past dozen years. Hell, maybe they have a little gizmo where you just push a button or something.
This whole post made me so happy for you, but these two parts are the best.
Well, this half-killed joint … make that two … no, three! man I really lost track … anyways, they’re not smokin’ themselves, and Monkey has the zoomies so I’m tossing him some treats to chase.
Oh, and we finished a roll of that heavy-duty industrial Saran Wrap and I claimed the cardboard roll.
That is some sturdy stuff, like a cardboard version of PVC pipes. I don’t know if it’ll go to Charm, or to the ratties - or first her, then them, cuz they’ll destroy it in short order, with glee - but some critter(s) gonna be happy soon.
{{{{{Cookie and Mrs}}}}} I am so sorry for the loss of Q’itih. She was a beautiful girl and you gave her a great life. I am sure she would be happy to know you would be open to having another feline friend to grace your lives. She’ll send someone along when she thinks you’re ready.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and N.O.S. for the day. I foresee quality cee-mint pond time to be followed by nappage, day drinkin’ and other RDOS inactivities. At six p.m. we shall attend a fiftieth anniversary soiree over to the church house. It will be a catered buffet style dinner with adult beverages, so it should be fun. That and snackage will take care of any need to feed for the day. I cannot imagine bein’ married to anyone for that long!
shades yay for fixed a/c and not meltin’!
J_Bats glad you’re enjoyin’ the new gig. From the pic, it looks like it would be a ton o’ fun.
JtC huzzah on the functional kitchen! Bake up a storm!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I need to get a digital clock with a bigger display for the bedroom. Without my glasses, it’s hard to tell the difference between 3 and 5 - hence I grabbed my tablet to play my sudoku waaaaay too early! But I did fall back to sleep till around 6:30.
We’re going to Waldorf today to look at a car FCD found on line. It’s a couple thousand cheaper than the same model at the dealer near us. We won’t be getting a Santa Cruz - without a trade-in, they’re just too much. I was looking at the wrong trim when I thought it was doable. Nope. Anyway, we shall see.
I’m not sure what else the day holds, tho no rain is forecast. Debby’s track was far enough west of us that I don’t think we even got a half inch of rain - definitely not the deluge we were expecting earlier in the week. In fact, no rain is forecast till next Firday, which is when we’re going to visit my mom - so the kids can swim…
But for now, the household is asleep and I have my quiet time.
From the Department of What Were They Thinking: MIL takes a liquid med. The dose is 30ml. The bottle holds 473ml. So they couldn’t put another 7ml in to make an even 16 doses??? OK, chances are we get that many anyway, since the little cup I use to measure probably isn’t calibrated, nor are my eyeballs.
FCD and I ran to Food Lion to pick up some groceries for BIL, then get a McSoda before coming home. MIL is now having breakfast, and after she gets dressed, we’ll take her to stay with BIL while we go car shopping. Or at least car-looking.
I did a little math and between the car payment and insurance, we can bank about $800/month as long as we don’t buy another vehicle. Not sure if FCD wants to delay purchase to build up the down payment, since it means he’ll have to drive the truck. I guess we’ll see. I had to frame the information so that he doesn’t think I’m pushing him to do that - I will not have guilt hanging over my head if he can’t get what he wants when he wants it!! He’s more of a car guy, so what he drives matters. I consider a vehicle a means of going from one place to another, not an extension of myself.
Anyway, we’ll be heading out shortly. Who knows what may happen… Stay tuned!!
