(Old) Oh, Eh? Can You See? - A Holiday MMP

The mammogram went amazingly smoothly – got a great parking spot right away in a notoriously difficult lot, wasn’t kept waiting, etc. – but holy carp is it hot out there! It’s currently 96°F and mostly sunny, and it feels like 100+. And, of course, it’s also nice and humid despite yesterday’s rain. Somehow I managed to get to the appointment without turning into a disgusting sweaty mess (no antiperspirant/deodorant is allowed before mammograms), but by the time I got home I couldn’t say the same. I am so not a fan of this weather. :frowning:

No…no, it does not. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Howdy Y’all! Supplies got delivered (well, put in the place they are bein’ collected), duty got did, we were bears who brunch, and provisions were purchased at the Fud Kitty. Then it was home to get comfy and stay in the a/c. 'Tis hawt out. A/C good! In a bit it shall be Netflix, chill, and popcorn time. Fireworks were not too bad here last night. Heard some at dark and by ten p.m. all had ceased.

Pilot sorry the crud is back. Hope you feel better again soonest.

rocker AWWW I would have been all snuggle buddy with those yorkies as well.

Oopsie happy doperversary! Glad you had a good time with BFF and family. Glad the mammogram went well.

Nettie WTAF indeed! You are right. Even pit language defies this.

Coppertone: Ouch!! You seem to be a real magnet for asshole companies and bosses. I wish that wasn’t so.

Geez Nettie; some peoples’ kids …

This! Congrats for all the good years. And for finally seeing the BFF couple. Good bet they really needed your visit.

Much better now after more sleep and a couple gallons of water. Still a trifle stuffy but near normal energy.

Out now for apps and live music nearby home. If my stamina holds, after one set here I’ll decamp to geezer disco down the road a few miles for a late, and I hope, wild night.

My idea of valor has no use for no sissy discretion.

Found a yummy recipe for baked mahi mahi with mushrooms. I don’t think MIL liked it because she didn’t say anything. I believe the only way she likes fish or shrimp is battered and fried, which I don’t make. It appears that I’ll need to cook 2 entrees when I want seafood.

Hot and humid today, and even tho I set the a/c at 76°, I get cold because there’s a vent next to my recliner and it blows cold air on me. So I wear a sweater and if I forget to take it off and step outside, I instantly roast! Stoopit weather!

Four loads of laundry today, so that’s it till next week. No clue what the weekend holds besides more heat. I guess we’ll see when we see.

And…?

I almost always bake our fish. Usually I put a pinch of kosher salt on the fish, and add some fresh rosemary sprigs topped with sliced lemon.

Stoopit HVAC more like.

I hate vents that blow on me. They sell inexpensive vent deflectors to redirect the flow off you. I’m on my phone or I’d dig up a cite.

The backslash is physically on a wired keyboard. The new one will be here tomorrow. Then I can put this one back in the stash for emergencies.

So you have a sentry critter too? :stuck_out_tongue:

Doesn’t your book get wet? :d&r:

rocker, those yorkies would have made my party experience.

SIL and I went to the Vietnamese place today, only to find them closed. So we went for curry instead. After that, we got coffee beans, then ice cream. Now, I’m chilling.

Evening all. Finally got to the gym and managed (in 3 separate efforts) to do 1 and 5/8 miles worth of swimming. Also spent some time in the whirlpool reading some old Robert A. Heinlein stories, so over 3 hours out of the house. it looks like the rain has left the vicinity but it is only 89F now, so I guess we’ve cooled down a bit. Have had the evening meal and will now commit myself to sloth for the remainder of the day.

Nettie, idiots abound everywhere.

Oopsie, glad the boob-crush went well, and I guess I’ve adjusted since I walked in 85-90F heat during my vacation and didn’t have many problems–but we never got to triple digits, either.

Pilot, have a good Firday night and don’t get too wild…we can always take up a collection for bail money but would prefer not have too…

My vents are on the ceiling so it’s fairly easy to place my stuff where the air isn’t directly on me. Plus the overhead fans that almost every N. Ali-bama house has keeps the air moving nicely.

  I restrict my reading to the whirlpool and sauna, of course, and the paperbacks are all 50+ years old, so if the get wet and destroyed in the reading no biggie.

And that’s all he wrote. Have a good night/morning all.

Chickens are getting ridiculous. I got a package of 3 breasts coming in at 3.56 pounds. I don’t like it.

Plus I have hiccups again. Grrr.

Apparently someone within earshot had leftover boom-booms that they’re shooting off. I’d St. Mary’s county is being attacked…

The fish was delightful! The recipe said it was for any white fish, so I may try it with cod. I found a few other recipes that sounded good but I don’t have white wine and I didn’t want to go get any. Maybe next time errands ensue.

Higgs is snoring - guess it’s bedtime. I think I’ll mosey to my bed.

Happy Friday!

Miserable hot today and the AC needs some fixing.
It’s been over 30 years since I’ve fooled with a window AC and I don’t remember how to clean out the drip pan? Or clean the drain hose?
Water is dripping inside the house.

Petey’s dad’s brother is an HVAC guy, so I’ll see if he can help out.
Or maybe I can figure it out tomorrow.
I’m thinking of getting a splitter system anyway.

Anyway, read most, but retained little.
It’s late… although I probably won’t sleep well.
I pulled out the fan for my bedroom but my windows are too narrow.
I have a portable AC, but my son took one look at all the pieces and said nope for tonight.
Maybe I can get him to change his mind. He worries about the dogs overheating.
The breeder had a dog die of heatstroke while it was laying out in the sun. That has my son so worried that he doesn’t want our gang to go outside when it’s hot out.
However, Echo and Rayleigh love to lay outside in the sun, and then come in and lay near the AC.

ok, i know I live in the collective pile of rocks and dirt known as the high desert aka 3rd lvl of hell aka antelope valley CA but 105- 115 F til next Wednesday? Even for us, that’s nuts…

it started at 104 Tuesday today it was 115 fir a few hours …

The holiday here was the same obnoxious mess that most holidays in he past have been described as so il;l spare ya the details …

So I might be a puddle on the floor …

I suppose you will survive, but I’m sure it will be close!

GG always wants to know what’s going on. He might not want to run up and meet new people right away, but he wants to see what’s happening.

He wasn’t best pleased when he got locked in the bedroom today because the electrician was in and out and I just do not trust strangers to be sure to not let the cats out. Never have, never will.

Electrician looked very surprised GG’s size when I picked him up, but I am short and GG is loooong so when I pick him up with his back legs dangling he looks very BIG.

A few days ago, I started a thread asking about fence post gargoyles and got a link to cat gargoyles which I super wanted, but they weren’t big enough. I did find this neato cat gargoyle door knocker, which arrived today. Luke the wire guy was in the kitchen when I opened it (friendly guy, liked to chat, his wife works at the bank in Logan and is 8 months preggy but her doctor wouldn’t recommend maternity leave until Monday so she still had to go to work today, which just ruined the long weekend at the lake his family had planned and…) the door knocker, I showed it to Luke who asked what breed our cat was because that knocker looked just like our lil GeorgiePie and he assumed that cat people were like dog people (like him).

Now the door knocker doesn’t look dark and ominous at all. Thanks a bunch, Luke!!!

Hopefully the videos helped LE find the idiots. I read further to Nettie’s post, and lost another little bit of my hope for the future.

Try to stay cool, and be sure to have your HVAC system gone over once a year. We just fled the heat because it just keeps getting hotter. WV is going through some record breaking heat along with much rain so the heat index is much higher.

I think you sent that storm our way, it was loud and long. I’m glad you didn’t have issues driving.

I’m also glad your boob squishing went well. Here’s hoping for good results. (While I’m sure you are fine, I always have a little back of the mind worry between the squishing and the knowing.)

I used to read while I was stitching, but could never do audio books. Once I learned what I was doing, I figured out that I could listen, stitch and watch the birds/trees/flowers all at the same time and I have been very happy ever since

Dude!

Actually, most of them are our age or older. As in too old to really care anymore.

Plus, it was us old folks who fought to get weed legal for all of our lives, this didn’t happen overnight.

I used to think that Mad Max was fiction, not a cautionary tale.

Water always helps. Nice clean water, not WV tap water! I don’t like buying bottled water for many reasons so got a brita fountain to use until our R/O system was installed. I can still smell the chlorine and have really slowed down on my water consumption so I sucked it up and bought a few gallons of water. (Of course we have individual bottles in the fridge for company, but those are way too wasteful for me to use.)

Every time I’ve offered a tradesman water, they have always looked grateful for a moment before asking if we have bottled water. I’m guessing they have tasted the local tap water as well.

Well, dang. I hope they go away soonist. I can’t remember the last time I had them, but Hubs gets them all the time and they seem to be very annoying.

In my news, the wiring to allow us to have a dishwasher and a garbage disposal installed is done. Hubs also had Luke redo the wiring for the cook top and oven because it had been Bubba’d in the past. That’s another step closer to being done. The dishwasher and R/O system will be delivered at the end of the month and we are still trying to source the proper sized oven for our hole. We really do not want to have the cabinets redone because that would mean the entire kitchen would need to be ripped out and we just ain’t got time for that.

Hubs’ desk was delivered and put together so now he can start moving his stuff into his room. Once all of that is out of the living room and the rental recliner is out of my room, I’ll be able to get started in there.

At least we have our bed and dressers in the right places.

It’s coming together.

Wow! Really coming along fast!

We use a Berkey filter, its disadvantage being that it needs to be filled, its advantage being much less plastic than the alternatives.

Those look appealing, if I was just starting this journey I would probably look hard at them.

The most important thing is that we are going to start to look for a buddy for GG next week. He’s not sleeping all the time anymore, but he still needs a buddy and we need to be able to “argue” about who’s cat is who’s.

I still haven’t found our plates.

Tonight was air-fried chicken livers, air fried almost potato chips and lima beans. Not having enough plates/platters to juggle everything while I was cooking was a super pain. Hubs and TC friend were the ones who packed them, so I can’t bitch that much, but they packed the sharpies they could have used to write more than “kitchen” on the boxes. At least I know that if I see my handwriting, the plates are not in that box and I should move on.

Peanut butter. When I’ve had bad hiccups, a spoonful of peanut butter tends to do the trick. It works for coughs from throat irritation too.

Neighbor kids are setting off firecrackers again. Not as bad as last night, but I still made sure to walk Nelson before dark. Right now, he’s glued to my right hip in the bed.

Spot and I napped. I made Cajun fish stew, and a Doctor Funk cocktail. Watching F1 practice on the telly.

I use a Brita pitcher, since I’m in an apartment.

Correct.

:cake:  :champagne:HAPPY DOPERVERSARY OOPSIE!!!:champagne:  :cake:
And glad the boob squishing went well.

sahi My window AC was dripping inside cuz I didn’t have it tilted properly. It needs to lean down outside. I cleverly had it level…not so good.

When I moved in with one of my besties years ago, approx. 67.4% of her boxes were neatly labeled “MISCELLANEOUS.”

Our friendship survived, but … damn, girl. Be specific!

I have a helluva startle reflex. I shudder to think what could’ve happened if I was passing by.

BOO!!! :ghost:
