Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It hit 106 at the airport yesterday, and the current heat index is 89. I’m shvitzing already.
Annie and I are lounging in the kitchen this morning. I forgot that my stepson was coming to visit yesterday. (I thought it was next weekend.) He is asleep on the couch where we normally reside in the a.m. Speaking of our residence upon the couch, since he was here, he and MusicMan carried my favorite antique loveseat back downstairs and Annie and I will take up residence there in the future. I ordered couch risers for it that will be here Monday. And, at that point, it will be completely easier to get out of than the couch. So, yay for me, instead of spending hundreds on a new couch or chair, I’ve spend about $25 on risers to adjust this one!
In a couple of hours, I’ll get ready and head north to the funeral. My mom is going with me and may attend or may just hang out in the car while I’m inside. Not sure yet.
Happy Saturday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 78 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 91 with rain showers later on in the day. We shall be in high RDOS mode today. Nowhere either of us needs or wants to be. Dependin’ on the weather there may or may not be quality cee-mint pond time. Sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ for sure, however. Any need to feed will be via forage.
Pilot glad you’re feelin’ better. Hope you made it to geezer disco and had a good time.
MetalMouse haven’t read any Heinlein in years. Might need to see if’n I can download some on my tablet.
VanGo BOO!
shades I do hope you don’t melt.
JtC are you worried it will look like someone’s bangin’ GG’s haid on the door when the knocker is used?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/51f with a predicted high of 15c/58f and rain showers. Weather app says “Rain on the cusp of fucking suckiness”. I have just been outside, it’s grey and gloomy but dry.
Had a busy fun day yesterday, we left home at lunchtime for the 2hr drive to Oldham, there was some slow spots with stop-start traffic for no obvious reason but we areived in relatively good time.
Checked in to our accommodation and went across to the pub that’s attached to it. Met up with some friends, had some food and then got a cab into the city.
The music festival was just starting as we arrived so we got our weekend lanyards and passes, then went to watch the opening band. The venue has both indoor and outdoor stages so they alternate which makes it work really well. Saw some good bands, a couple that were new to me and saw more friends. Lots of yakking and hugging!
We left after the last band, got a cab back to the hotel and had a nightcap with some people we met who are also staying here. Got up for breakfast and found the place quite full of very smartly dressed folks. Chuch convention or a wedding kind of smart. You can definitely tell who the music festival crowd are!
The catsitter sent me some videos from home Shadow and Blossom are enjoying the attention but Cherry has retreated to her safe place under the bed.
Off to get showered and dressed for another day of musical shenanigans
Yays, boos, hugs and scritches all round!
But he doesn’t worry about Mom?
I couldn’t trust family! Taz was a travelin’ man and he got out once. Luckily it was a snowy day and he wasn’t impressed. Nowadays, the grands let bugs in and a/c out. I’m constantly yelling “Close the door!” Kids, sheesh!
Jacksonville tap water reeked of sulphur, as did our shallow well there. But our county water company (the neighborhood got hooked in at one point) managed to send decent water to our homes. Our well here is a little hard and a lot potable!
I do so hate when that happens. Once traffic starts to move, you should see a big tree or a pile of vehicles moved to the side of the road. We used to encounter that phenomenon along I-95 in South Carolina all the time. Traffic would crawl with frequent stops, and all of a sudden, it was all clear!! So maddening!!
The school Tobias attends sends periodic photos of him doing whatever he does during the day - to his parents anyway. I get them second hand when they’re too adorable not to share. Phones with cameras have really changed the way things work.
swampy - does the cee-mint pond ever get too warm to be refreshing? Nothing like wanting a swim and ending up in a bath.
As for my little corner of the world, another hot one in store, tho theoretically not as hot as yesterday. I’m giving my garden a good soak to start the day. There’s a 30% chance of rain today, and I don’t expect anything.
FCD is going to the boat to measure for the transformer installation, then he’ll spend the balance of the day in the shop. I never did tidy the basement so that, at least, will get done today. And the dishwasher needs to be emptied. And I found half a ham steak in the freezer so that will be supper along with sauteed cabbage and air-fried russets chunks.
I’m sure other stuff will happen, but it will all be a surprise, pleasant or otherwise.
Happy Saturday!!
Cops arrested over 30 people the night of the 4th, most of whom were adults. A couple of them threw an M-80 at the police chief, who was not amused. I’m guessing the judge won’t be, either.
Just posted ads for the queen mattress sets that have been living in our basement since April. They’re on Craigslist and a local tri-county site. I’ve tried contacting the local shelter for abused spouses but they never got back to me - not even to say “No thanks.” I hate to just take them to the dump but it appears no one wants a free bed.
Mornin’ all! 9am as I start driveling. NWS sez 85/29 now on the way to 92/33. Nil breeze and just a few puffies for shade. So becoming sultry. My head was quite congested this morning; thick unmoving glop. But no laziness or discomfort, so onward into the day!
Here’s hoping nobody melts today; seems like it’s hot all over the USA today.
Congrats to Jane for rapid inexorable progress. And hoping oopsie’'s squishing wasn’t too onerous and the results are good. Yaays, boos, {{hugs}}, and congrats to everyone else; I did read everything.
My last night went well. Fun without wretched excess. No bail money collection needed tonight metalmouse, but thanks for the thought.
Took the free not-uber to The Funky Biscuit to hear a duo I’ve heard many times at other dancing venues where they do glammy disco pop danceable stuff. The Biscuit is mostly a rockabilly / folk venue that occasionally moves out of their niche to stuff I prefer more. So I thought tonight would be an example of the venue being out-of-niche. Nope. Instead was surprised to see my duo in blue jeans & boots. The did quality renditions of Angie, Proud Mary, some Johnny Cash, etc. All familiar, all enjoyable, but not my main thing. Enjoyed a glass of wine and a bowl of stew. All at happy hour prices. Yaay for cheap!
As planned / hoped for when their first set ended my energy was still up so I grabbed a real uber to geezer disco = Live Music Schedule | Galuppis. A lovely evening as the sun sank low in the west, a light crowd, and a great group performing. They opened with a couple Fleetwood Mac tunes then moved all over different acts and eras. I stayed for their whole two sets then ubered home and into bed. A bit of dancing, but the very sparse crowd didn’t quite have the collective energy necessary to get ‘em all up and movin’. A mojito and a ginormous “appetizer” serving of ginormous house-made chicken spring rolls was had. There were 6 halves, each the size of a hefty burrito, and I should have stopped at 2 but ate 3. Leaving 3 to bring home.
Upon getting home I was talking to the doorman / concierge who works 3pm-11pm almost all 7 days. Sweet young lady of about 24 who’s putting herself through delayed college now, and evidently struggles with getting enough sleep and enough money. I reminisced about similar times of all work, little sleep, and no fun in my own college history.
Anyhow, it popped into my head to offer her my leftovers. She was at first incredulous at the offer (I couldn’t be serious), but once I opened the styro and she saw them the look on her face said she really wanted them. So I gave them to her. She was beyond grateful; breakfast, if any, must have been long ago.
I told her of years ago when late wife and I lived in a highrise long before the internet or Door Dash. Only pizza places delivered and not that many of them. Anyhow, we used to get a pizza delivered about once a week and had the habit of buying a large for us and a second small for the delivery driver to give to the doorman on his way out.
Here and now sometimes when I’ve left the building planning for a nearby dinner and prompt return I’ve asked her if she wanted me to bring her anything when I returned. She’d always demurred as in “ha ha very funny”. I told her tonight that those offers were serious, just like the doorman pizzas of yesteryear. I’m happy to help somebody giving me good service who’s struggling while improving themselves. The look on her face was touching.
The same offer stands for her older co-worker who’s there some days, but seems more established in his life. Trying to do a little good in the world.
Talked to BB this morning. In contrast to her hellish overnight on the 4th, last night they literally slept through the whole shift with nothing to do. Her morale and sleep balance are much improved.
Time for me to feed and off to the beach. Maybe not in that order; hard to say. I am sure though that some seawater in the nose will improve my gloppy head.
Let’s all try to avoid melting or burning ourselves on sun-heated steering wheels or baking patio furniture.
Cheers and Happy Weekend to all!!
Morning all. Had a ‘normal’ breakfast of Corn Flakes, Bacon and Pepsi Zero (for various degrees of normalcy, of course-YMMV). Nothing major on the schedule, might do some house-cleaning and may go over to the gym for some pedaling to nowhere, but after several weekends of either soccer refereeing or vacationing, it’s kinda nice being home. Going to be dry and hot all weekend, not the extreme heat some of our Mumpers face but still in the 90’s.
Chickens taking steroids?
Sari, hope the A/C is working better.
JtC, that knocker might keep the Jehovah Witnesses away, it is rather formidable-looking. Glad the electric is more efficient now, it’s really becoming ‘your’ house now. Let us know when the plates finally appear; we could start a lottery (I pick Tuesday at 9:30am).
Sticky Buns, enjoy your loveseat.
boo fae, enjoy the festival this weekend, sounds like a good one.
FCM, they even have a name for it, “Phantom Traffic Jams”. Used to encounter one on my way home from work in St. Louis almost every time in this one particular location,
never saw an accident or any breakdowns, just slowed for a bit and then back to normal.
Pilot, nice gesture for the lady at the door; probably the best meal she’s had all month. Hope she’s bold enough to take you up on your generous offer.
Onward into the weekend. Take care all. No melting allowed.
I may have rid myself of both beds! I put a listing on FB Marketplace and got 2 responses within minutes. One wants to come tomorrow, the other is slow to reply. But it would be great to have both of them gone!! Fingers crossed.
FCD is back - he figured out how to mount the transformer panel, so yay! With luck it’ll go in this week. Fingers crossed.
Back to my book. MIL is still abed at 10:20. She complains about sleeping in so late, but she won’t go to bed earlier so she can wake earlier. I dunno…
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Not a whole lot on the agenda today, but if it doesn’t get too stinkin’ hot, a trip to the dog park is in order. Meanwhile, the small beast and I are on our 472nd round of fetch with his recently laundered hedgehog.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
The Brita water is a big improvement over the tap water, but it still reeks of chlorine unless I let it sit for a couple of hours. TBH, I’m just too spoiled and high maintenance for such simple solutions. I drink all day long, a couple of cups of coffee in the morning and then icewaterwithlemon until dinner when I switch to adult beverages and then back to icewaterwithlemon if I’m up late enough.
It’s possible that when my body learns that I’m not in constant danger of sun stroke that I won’t drink as much water, but that is doubtful because these habits were formed decades ago so are pretty well automatic now.
It would have been more fun if they were labeled SURPRISE!!!
Very clever, go you!!! I hope the funeral isn’t bad, it is good to know that you will have someone with you.
It will remind me of VBC using his haid as a basketball, LOL!!!
What a mess, I hope at least a few of them end up financially drained by the legal expenses.
I’m glad you are feeling better. I hope you get some BB time next weekend. Nurses are easy to love, but so very busy. Most of them do not know how to prioritize their ownselves and don’t take the proper amount of self-care they need. And, yes, frolicking between the sheets certainly does count as self-care despite having a frolic partner.
Nooooo! That will mean that they got put in TC friends car to get them out of the way and then Hubs forgot to load them into his car. /goes into the living room and starts shaking boxes.
And it looks like I may just be rid of both beds! One woman is coming tomorrow morning, and I’m waiting to hear back from the second, and I have a third and fourth on deck, just in case.
I also discovered LOTS of crumbs under the toaster, despite it having a crumb tray. I suspect that’s part of what’s drawing ants. I killed several dozen of the little bastards in and around the sink this morning. Obviously the ant traps ain’t working. Dammit!

Good morning, all!
I’ll be leaving for my gig rehearsal in just over an hour, which means whenever I finish this post I’ll need to jump in the shower, get dressed, and head out. But the arrival time is somewhat loose (the pianist will just start working with the friend whose condo we’re using), so I’m not feeling rushed. I’ve spent the morning prepping for the rehearsal*: updating and printing lead sheets, getting highlighters/sticky notes together for when we start figuring out the tunes we want to do as a trio, etc. Almost everything’s in my “music” tote bag, ready to go: I just need to throw my wallet and reading glasses in there, then all I’ll need to do when it’s time to leave is pack a protein shake and some Gatorade bottles in my little cooler bag (yes, my friend has a fridge but first they will need to survive a 30-minute drive in an initially-very-hot car).
*This was my first Saturday morning in 1.5 years without volunteer-related stuff to do…ahhhhhh!
Last night I finished section 3 of Notre Dame, which represents its appearance during the years 1200-1225:
Section 1 was 1163-1182, and section 2 was 1182-1200. Section 4 (1225-1786) will be everything except the big spire and the two antennas; tomorrow I’ll see how far I can get with that.
Aww, thanks! Can’t believe it’s been 20 years. My ignorance is definitely taking longer to fight than I thought…LOL.
I’d been on – and kicked off – other message boards before joining this one, and when I started here I was finally smart enough to know that I needed to stay out of Great Debates if I wanted to not wind up getting banned (in recent years that expanded to include Politics & Elections). Those are still the only forums I deliberately avoid. So far, so good!
Thanks! Oddly enough, I don’t even have any low-key concern while waiting for the results. Maybe because a few years ago I did get an abnormal result that required more imaging, and turned out to be nothing: maybe now my brain knows that it’d take more than two appointments before I needed to worry…?
LOL! Sounds like it was a great time. Here’s hoping today is a repeat!
When I got home from my BFFs’ on Thursday evening, I didn’t bother setting up the windshield sun shade because I was going out again the next day: I knew the car interior would be hot, but figured I’d just deal with it. Yeah, I completely forgot about the steering wheel (and the car seat)…OUCH! When I got back from the mammogram, I put the freaking sun shade in place.
(One advantage to rehearsing at my friend’s place is that I’ll be parked in a garage!)
Murphy was an optimist - O’Toole’s commentary on Murphy’s Law
So yesterday the SSLAWs had a power issue, so it took 30 minutes to get things started. Today, same thing, plus there were only 5 of us there at 0430, when there should have been 15-20. So we started using the imprinters, except 1. they kept dying. 2. Hp cyan ink smears like crazy on plastic(like the plastic bags 80% of the companies ship in). Normally Smalls goes down around 730-0800, depending on when the Air comes in. At 0900, there were still a huge number of bags in the 100 Sort next to where I was in the 100/200 Slide, which is about 150 yards up the belt from smalls. The drivers left at 0930. On the Slides, Hazardous Ken and I had to deal with 320 packages that were for businesses and people off this week. Plus, 50 more from Purple 54, because due to somebody’s incompetence 50 packages for a vet and a business park were put on a frickin’ Saturday route. Also:
Me: “Did they change a route, because they keep throwing labeled packages down the slide.”
Screaming O: “No, they are just stupid.”
So even with throwing every package solid enough to survive another round in the Boxcrusher 9000, there were still 150 packages on the rollers for the…< counts pairs of legs >… two(2) people on the 200 Table. And it took Hazardous Ken, Deb, and I 2 hours to deal with retapes, fallout, and overgoods. And the heat. At one point Metal Moped Girl was helping me with the 320 packages, and she kept having to stop, fill her hat with ice, and put it back on her head. I went in just before 4. I left at 1245pm. But I have peeled the filth off of me, had bacon, eggs, and a gin&tonic, and laundry is washed, but I am holding off drying till it gets below 98 outside. Also, I got home after roomie went to work, so Spot is absent. Whether he has perished from the grief of being alone for 30 minutes, or is just sulking I know not.
Naptime!
As long as the local voodoo priest does come by, it should be fine.
There is a missing nuke somewhere on a farm in Greensboro, N.C. from a B-52 crash in 1958. I suspect that’s where aldi gets their giant chickens from.
If I wasn’t OCD, I’d do that. But the Mason jar of cornstarch on my counter is labeled “ANTHRAX”, after a plot point form an episode of Elementary.
Heck, the sunshade on my car was painful to touch.
Good deal!
We use Terro to good effect, but it doesn’t work for all types of ants.
ETA: It’s pleasantly warm here, but not horrid. I weeded part of the base of the fence to prepare for pressure washing and staining, and will continue this evening when it’s cooler.
No plates today and I can’t reach the rest of the boxes until we move all of the fermentation paraphernalia. That didn’t happen today because the curtains I had ordered for the dining room arrived. I don’t like them for that room anymore (too busy), but we put them up anyhow because the setting sun glares through that window and heats the room something terrible.
They will look good in Hubs’ room and while he doesn’t care if he lives with nothing but mini-blinds forever, I think he will appreciate them in the summer mornings because one of his windows gets direct sun too.
Hanging curtains/drapes used to be much easier than it is now. This getting old thing isn’t as much fun as I had hoped it would be back when I was young. At least the new ones I’ve ordered for the dining room won’t need new a new curtain rod hung.
My kitchen island will be here on Monday, the pot rack on Wednesday and two tall freestanding pantry cabinets will be here on Thursday. Our plans for Friday include me dealing with the kitchen and him organizing his room.
That is super neat! I love how they are giving you the history as well as the fun.
Diatomaceous earth works a treat when it comes to ants and is harmless to pets or children. It is slower than most poisons but less expensive and more environmentally friendly. IMHO.
Congrats on the beds. We had no problems getting rid of used beds back in AZ but you have more need to do it now than we did. (No beds in the basement means BIL can’t stay there.)
Poor kittah! The contract has been broken and trust has been shattered! Or he just curled up on her warm spot and went back to sleep, you never know when it comes to cats.
Howdy Y’all! Been a good day to stay inside in the a/c. We have napped, noshed, and day drank. All perfectly fine RDOS activities.
BooFae glad you are havin’ (maybe by now had) a good time at the music festival.
MOOOOOOM the cee-mint pond does get a little warmish but is still somewhat cool compared to the air temp. I will dunk myself periodically which is refreshin’. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed for makin’ the beds disappear.
Oopsie have fun at the rehearsal and hope all goes well.Notre Dame is comin’ right along!
Cookie the stoopid appeared to be strong in your neck of the wood durin’ the Fourth.
Pilot you, sir, are a majorly upstandin’ RDOS!
One bed gone, one to go tomorrow.
Supper was good. Household garbage and recycling is in the truck to be taken in the morning. Chillage tonight.
The cats get fed at 16:00, so they have 6 minutes to wait.
I’ve shucked and buttered the corn, and wrapped them in foil for going onto the barbie. Rib-eye steaks are still in the fridge.
