(Old) Oh, Eh? Can You See? - A Holiday MMP

We try to keep the lad from imploding.

Nope. He’s back in the psych ward - he swallowed a bunch of pills then told someone what he did, so I don’t think that counts as a real attempted suicide. Regardless, nothing we planned for today will get done. Dammit.

So we didn’t get to do anything we’d hoped to do. I did mow, but that’s about it. And, bottom line, we won’t get retirement till MIL dies. There’s a happy thought… But he’s gone down to the boat just to escape a bit. And I’m going to disappear into a book for a while.

Sorry for the whineage - it’s not been a good day.

Stop apologizing.
This is where you can come to vent.

Kitty!

My cousin’s cat likes to leave deposits in my mom’s purse. You would think my mom would learn and puts her purse up higher, or at least zips it closed.

Switzerland has two days dedicated to fireworks, New Years Eve and August 1st. It’s permitted to set fireworks off 3 days before the official day.

The August 1st fireworks started about 3 weeks ago. :frowning:

{{{FCM}}} I remember when you retired. Actually I might even remember when you retired the first time. I do hope your retirement starts to be a bit more relaxing.

As it is summer, it’s raining again. It’s rather sad when the darkness activated lights turn on at 6 pm and official sundown is after 9 pm. Good sleeping weather, at least.

There’s a meatloaf in the oven. All sides will be the assorted leftovers in the fridge - I will reduce the tupperware population in there, dagnabbit!

Back to my book…

Our ‘BBQ’ turned out to have been for a cow-orker’s birthday, and for El Jefe’s looming retirement. (He is retiring, but he’ll still be in the orifice for the next six months, then he’ll be in part-time, and then he’ll serve on the Board of Directors.) As suspected, ‘BBQ’ meant cheeseburgers and hot dogs cooked on the barbie. Since I had to get more avocados from TJ’s anyway, I picked up three jalapeños, some guacamole, and a container of those pickles I like. I threw the jalapeños on the barbie, and my Mexican cow-orker, El Jefe, and I each had one. As for the burger, I had red onion, tomato, lettuce, and guacamole, but no bun. I also had a hot dog (no bun or condiments) and a pickle. I’ll leave the pickles here, since we already have two containers at home. I’ll take the guac, since nobody else had any. (‘Leave the pickles. Take the guacamole.’)

Looks like we’re having a luncheon next Tuesday (the 9th) to meet the new boss.

is it another main coon kitty?

just looked at the weather its supposed to get between 105 and 110 this week with the 4th being 107

All maine coons are main!
On bus to grocery store.
Update in a bit.

Howdy Y’all! It’s been high sloth and bein’ RDOS as promised today. Some effort was exerted to haul the biiiiiig trash can all the way up the driveway to where it lives all week, but I was revived by nappage. Sup got cooked and et. OYKW did cleanup duty. Now it’s Netflix and chill time. Just for a change, I think I’ll have some popcorn.

MOOOOOOM some folks just do not want to be helped. Y’all have done what you can for BIL. Hope MIL sticks to her guns. Even if y’all don’t stay for the boom booms on Thursday, sounds like it’d be fun for the kids and hopefully wear them out. That’s always a good thing, right? If we hear any 'hood boom booms, I expect them to crank up Wednesday and Thursday.

MetalMouse have a fun day.

JtC first, yay you’re back! Also hooray for new washer and dryer and no more laundromats! Poor GG! Hopefully he settles in to his new normal soon. Maybe gettin’ a new sister will help a lot. Them’s some top notch rural instructions on where y’all live by hubs.

Sticky_Buns askin’ costs nuttin’. Hope Annie enjoys her spa day. Sorry to hear about best friend’s husband. Hospice is, indeed, a good thing.

Lily sometimes I make Kraft mac 'n cheese and gussy it up with extra cheese, cayenne pepper and such to make it more adulty.

Pilot you achieved RDOS nirvana yestiddy. Good for you! I dearly love days when I don’t venture any further from da cave than the mailbox.

shoe nappage on your day off is good practice for when you become a RDOS.

BooFae if a coalition of idiots chooses the supreme idiot, is the cabinetry they get at least nice cabinetry?

Wheelie glad you made it back home safe and sound. Yay for the gig in NYC. Three weeks is a long time, but if’n it pays well it’ll be worth it.

I see no winning solution here. Hugs to you all.

Copy away! They’re my takes on some Pinterest cards.

Thank all of you for the compliments!

I’m sorry for your loss sticky buns. Keeping appendages crossed on the job.

What a pretty girl!

Yay on te W/D JtC!

It’s venting and you need to do it. We’re here, vent away. Hugs.

Irked, one down, two to go. Thinking about it, I won’t be irking a full week until the end of the month.

Tomorrow, my partner in-crime colleague will leave at a half day until Tuesday, so I may get some of my flashing backlog caught up (part of my day is sorting and cartonizing phones she’s flashed, as well as my own). I’m looking forward to a long weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Supper was good and many plastic containers were emptied! Little bit of rice, little bit of broccoli, little bit of gravy, little bit of slaw, half an onion, the last of the cuke salad, and one amazingly yummy meatloaf! Apart from having some meatloaf, there’s still a little fried rice that MIL will have for lunch tomorrow with the last of her cashew chicken. So YAY!!!

FCD and MIL are maybe going to contact BIL tomorrow - they’ll talk to the charge nurse to find out if it’s a good idea. That’s all we know for now. My poor sweetie is sooooooo done with this, but he won’t not do it because that’s the way he is. His mom is done, too, but it is her son and it’s not in her to turn away. I feel so helpless. Much suckage here.

On the plus side, I harvested 3 more cucumbers. None of my 'maters are red yet, and despite all the blossoms, there are no babby cantaloupes yet. Never grew them before, so I don’t know if it’s too early or what. I guess we’ll see. I do love me some cantaloupe, tho, so fingers crossed.

I decided to have Instacart bring me dinner (a turkey sandwich from Wegman’s), plus a few other things: the shopper is done shopping, and everything’s supposed to get here sometime before 6:05pm…time to see how much typing I can do in the next 24 minutes.

Yesterday’s rehearsal at my friend’s condo went well. Though “rehearsal” is an overstatement: the three of us spent some time brainstorming song ideas, but mostly caught up on each others’ lives (we don’t see each other very often). After a couple hours we went to dinner at a place that’s walking distance from my friend’s condo, and I had two very yummy Wagyu sliders (with cheddar, pickled cucumbers, maple onions, and adobo mayo). I’ll definitely get those again! We’re meeting again on Saturday afternoon, and this time our pianist will be there to actually rehearse with us.

Today is my first official day of freedom after four years of volunteering! :tada: I’ve unconfigured the various email clients I was using for my (former) committee’s account, I unsubscribed from the executive committee listserv, and I’ve archived all relevant emails and files. Soooo nice!

Not much else to share at the moment, which is good because the groceries just got delivered (6 minutes early) and I still have some replyin’ to do before I relocate to the LR…

Bailey’s only medium-sized: anything on the table or counters is quite safe. Plus, dogs don’t have the same yeet gene that cats do.

My favorite is the one with the fence!

I used to do that quite frequently before my bariatric surgery…which is no doubt one of the reasons I wound up needing bariatric surgery!

My mom would sometimes mix tuna and cream of mushroom soup (+ a can of milk) into the cooked mac-and-cheese; because of the milk, it would need to be nuked for a couple of minutes to make it hot again. I made that several times as an adult. Talk about something that tastes so much better than it sounds!

Thursday, thankfully! I’m also “leaving” work early on Wednesday: I have a voice lesson at 2:45 and the yoga class I want to try is at 5:00, so I figure I’ll just log off at 2:30 and take the rest of the day. I’ll be backfilling the program manager (my boss) while he’s out Wed & Fri, but happily he’s good with me leaving early on Wed.

Yay!!!

I heard some on both Friday and Saturday nights. I expect this week and weekend to be somewhat unbearable. Luckily, the noise doesn’t bother Bailey at all: she’ll only get a little nervous if we’re outside and the folks right behind us have those super loud sparklers.

Never!

Same here, especially in the evening…and, frankly, I’m relieved. I’m supposed to go to my BFFs: since the pandemic, Husband BFF has gotten really into setting off not-quite-legal stuff in their street and I get nervous every year. I have a bit of a fire phobia (left over from my family’s apartment burning to the ground in '76), plus I’m cleared and not crazy about being around borderline illegal activity. So I’d be happy if he could still grill dinner – as he loves to do – but the storms hit before it gets dark. :crossed_fingers:

Oh, I’m so sorry! :people_hugging:

No, they just have the “eat anything I can fit in my mouth” gene. (Grew up with dogs, do love them.)

You’re in the same zone as we are and my neighbor’s squash (cantaloupe’s cousin) are blossoming, but not fruiting yet, so you will likely get some in a couple of weeks.

Mine too.

I went to a state website and learned that, first, I planted mine waaaaaaaay too close to each other, and second, seed to fruit is 80-100 days, so no worries yet. I fear the worries will be “What the heck do I do with all of these melons???” Time will tell.

Our litter robot will tell us when one of our cats has pooped. I was still working when Hubs bought it and he loaded the app on my phone. The first time I got the text, I showed to all of my coworkers so we could point and make fun. Then I deleted it.

Our new machines work very nice and have all sorts of settings that we will never use. They are louder than our older ones, but they are on the tile floor. If they still sound overly loud after our stuff is here, we will get rubber mats to put under them.

That’s the important part.

Does your roomie work days? Which means Spot has sleeping slaves for most of his sleeping time. What a lucky kitteh!!!

Oh yeah, that is a huge internet security violation. That’s why we all taped our list of passwords under our keyboards.

Much as I understand that he is ill, I’d still want to bitch slap him for what he is doing to FCD and MIL. And you, cause getting pissed off certainly can’t be that great for your health either.

Do you work with people??? American people??? How could anyone pass up TJ’s guac?

I finally found masa and avocados. Rock hard avocados. I’ve missed them so much that I asked Google how to fast ripen one and learned that you can wrap them in foil and put them in a 200F oven for 10 minutes. Not having an oven but having the munchies, I pulled my car out in the drive way and put a foil wrapped avocado between my reflective windshield sunscreen and the windshield. After 4 hours, I had a hot rock hard avocado.

I doubtet it would work well anyhow. Today we went out for a drive and stopped at a fruit stand and bought a box of rather firm peaches, so the avocados got mixed in the carton with the peaches and are already softening up. We also got some yummy yellow tomatoes and an onion that was so fresh it bled when I cut it.

On the way back, we stopped at a bakery hoping to find some nice bread. Instead it was a patisserie/ice cream parlor and was super cute. We bought a cream horn, a three inch square of peanut butter fudge and a big German chocolate cookie.

When we got home, I ate a quarter of the big cookie and a 2 inch slice of the cream horn and was totally done with sweet for the day. Poor Hubs has no self control when it comes to sweet things and ate everything else. I could tell he didn’t feel well after all that sugar, he never does, the poor guy. We will be getting our freezer Wednesday, next time we visit the Patisserie I will serve us small pieces and then put everything else in the freezer. It’s harder to binge eat when you have to thaw the food out first.

No, we don’t want another kitten and we can’t wait for an adult to show up in rescue. We want an adult female so will go to the kill shelter and get a people friendly cat there. GG will love whoever we bring home and we know how to properly introduce cats. I just wish the whole process didn’t take as long as it will, he’s not really grooming himself either.

They are wonderful directions, everyone knows our house! While I was chatting with my new hair cutter lady, she asked where I lived and I gave her the same description. She laughed and said she hadn’t driven by to look at it but had seen a big pic of the accident on the front page of the three times weekly newspaper

(thanks for the welcome back)

:people_hugging:

ETA: The RV vs brick house fight was 6-7 years ago. Nothing is ever forgotten out thisaway.

Harder, but certainly not impossible…

All this talk of sweets means I think I’ll have a yogurt. After almost 2 months of crap-eating, I’m trying to get back to my smarter eating plan. We won’t discuss how much poundage has returned to me… :stuck_out_tongue: So, yogurt time.

A few years ago, I did some experimenting and found that putting hard pears in a paper bag with a sacrificial banana ripened them faster. Might that work for avocados? Since I don’t like avocado anything, I have about zero experience managing them.

Not doing well here. Everything below mid shin hurts/feels numb. Plus I napped away most of the afternoon.

Hope to rebound tomorrow.

What did your doctor say? I think I remember you saying you would see one. If you haven’t yet, I would suggest you do so post haste.
