I received an email in my suspected spam folder from AAA, saying I need to update my credit card for the upcoming automatic renewal payment. Of course, I didn’t click on anything; I went to AAA directly. The email was legit (it addressed me by name, had the last-4, and had the membership number). As long as I was updating my expiry date, I went ahead and added Mrs. L.A. as an associate member. Her car is newer than mine, and the only problems she’s had have been a couple of flats; but she does a lot of driving visiting her patients. I bought her a drone for Christmas, but I need to get her a couple of small things. I thought the AAA card would be nice.
Speaking of Christmas, I’ve enrolled in the Secret Santa ($25 maximum limit) at irk. There were suggestions for things I might put on my wish list. They had a few things, but I only put in a dash cam. I’ve been watching a lot of dash cam videos, and they’re making me paranoid.
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got done and put where it stays until it gets dirtied again. Some prep stuff for Turkey Day got done as well. Nappage and day drinkin’ were also accomplished. Sup got made and et. Thus has it been in swampland on this dreary day. Netflix, chill and popcorn are up next.
And late afternoon greetings. Finally did make it to the gym for a little while and am now home eating mac-n-cheese with some Mini-Oreos as dessert. Temperature is down to 46F and we’ll be close to freezing tonight, so a heavier jacket will probably get used if I go out tonight. Also went to Amazon and took care of the family Xmas gifts; will get the various pets Chewy cards at Kroger for the fuel points I can earn.
Coppertone, never give up.
Boo fae, I love the term “dog’s breakfast”, just never remember to apply it when it happens around here. Hope the squirrel appreciates your trusting her…
Been there, done lost a day at…
Oopsie, sounds like you have been struck by the ‘curse of competence.’ Hope you can get it done and passed and out of your hair. Nice Lego stuff.
And Mac-n-Cheese has been devoured, will get some veggies out of the refrigerator to finish off the evening meal. Take care all.
I’ve been kitty-less for many years now. I miss having them but at the moment, I just don’t have the money or the room to have pets. Maybe when the kids get out on their own I’ll be able to think about it.
Thank the ogs that I’m not the only one who does this! The music for my games just drives me nuts so it’s so much easier to keep either the sound off for the games or the sound off completely on my phone.
I hope that you don’t have to worry about it then, but you know you’ve got the moral support here if it happens.
Now I just may have to do exactly that. I hope you have a good time and manage to stay warm for it. NYC can get downright frigid!
It’s been an interesting week or so here in Fishy-land. I finally got the paperwork for the executorship. I really need to get started on selling the property so I can get out from everything but I’m freaking out slightly because I really don’t know what I’m doing. I need to reach out to my family and let them know that I’m wanting to get things sold sooner rather than later and if there’s anything they want out of the house before I do so, now is the time to do it. I’m debating finding someone I can sell it as is to, or to find an estate sale company that can do the cleanout so I don’t have to worry about that part of things. I’m just feeling more than a bit overwhelmed, but I’ve got Rich at my back to help me out. I just need to get started.
I had two doctors appointments last week - my semi-annual with my PCP and a follow-up regarding my neck surgery. I’ve been released from having to see the neck surgeon again. I’m not back to 100% but I’ve still got about another 9 months until I know if I’m going to get feeling back in my hands. My appointment with my PCP went well - vitals good, keeping the weight off, and getting my second shingles vaccine, along with COVID and flu shots. She sent me for an x-ray of my knees because I’ve been having problems with them. She thinks it’s going to just be arthritis and is sending me to PT for it. I haven’t had a chance to call and set that up yet. Maybe tomorrow. But I’m feeling over all good about things.
We do have a house of sick, though. BtY started it, throwing up at school, sore throat, cough. Then CtE caught it, then me. I had no voice for about 3 days this past weekend, but now the throat and voice are better but I’m not shaking this cough. Hubby’s starting down that road now. Hopefully it will leave us all alone after he’s done.
I had my first 4DX experience on Friday. The guy I’m dating took me to see Wicked and decided that he wanted to spring for the 4DX version. The movie was fantastic and I’m excited for the next part to come out. The 4DX was great, after I got used to it. I keep forgetting how much I enjoy the movies in general. I really need to get out more for it, especially since I’m making money to be able to do fun things. We may be going to see the Sonic 3 movie as a family when it comes out. I’m going more for the kids than me but still… movies.
This weekend, my best friend came to stay for the weekend. It was board games almost all the time. Sunday ended up being interrupted. Hubby was tutoring and CtE had volunteering to do for her scholarship. I drove her to the volunteer location and, on my way back, hit a large rock in the road and tore up the tire. Thankfully, I was ok, I had AAA and I had a donut in the car. Plus, BFF let Hubby take her car to go tutor. So that was all to the positive. We got the tire replaced today - $165. It could have been worse, I guess. Now I’ll be able to go back out to do UberEats deliveries to make up the money that the tire cost.
We’ve got a relatively low-key week this week. BtY is off of school all week and Hubby is working from home all week. Thursday, instead of cooking for us, we’ve got some friends through Sunday Assembly that are doing a Friendsgiving. We’re bringing corn pudding as our contribution and my kids are actually planning on joining us! Tomorrow and the weekend, I’m going to try to do some deliveries. If I can get the family to clean the living room up, I may try to get the tree up this weekend. We’ll just see how things go.
And now I need to wolf down the delicious pot pie that Hubby made before my Sunday Assembly meeting for this upcoming month’s Assembly. Have a great night, all!
Pierogi is ready to join some onions and bacon Thursday, tomorrow I’ll make pumpkin pie, saffron buns and poppyseed cakes and Thursday i’ll make golumki, haluski, a cucumber salad and finish up the pierogi. Tonight, I made black bean - sweet potato enchiladas for supper, so I’ve spent a lot of time in the kitchen.
Dad is sleeping a lot ( not FCM MIL level) , but he can only sleep about 3 hours at a time, so we’re keeping some weird hours. I’ve enjoyed our visit so far though.
Read all, remembered some and love the kitteh pics.
Lazy tonight. I just put a Trader Joe’s Traditional Meatloaf in the oven. Good, but not enough sauce. Mrs. L.A. had a slice. She said it was good, but I said mine’s better. TJ’s is quicker and easier though. I made a meatloaf-and-provolone sanger.
I played a few games on my tablet that had the most annoying ads EVER. I had every sound control on my tablet turned OFF and the ads somehow possessed the tablet and blasted racket that forced The Daughter to come downstairs and complain!
Mr VOW to the rescue! He had some old earbuds he no longer used. So he cut off the plug with about two inches of wire, and inserted that into the speaker jack on my tablet. I now have No. Noise. Ever.
Today was my friend’s last day here to clean. Now that I can see, I don’t really need her to clean, and she’s making good money via her Etsy business. I suspected she didn’t say anything because she was afraid of hurting my feelings, so I raised the subject, and she was grateful. This frees her up and saves me $100/month. We’ll still see each other every few weeks.
Tomorrow is shot day and cooking day, so I’ll be busy.
BooFae, I don’t think I said that I passed on the gritters map to my siblings and kids, and they LOVED it. So much fun! Thank you!
For a full 20 seconds, I tried to figure out what a meatloaf-and-provolone sangria was. I’m slllloooow.
red, I’m impressed with all that cooking!
pilot, I was very excited about seeing you in the parade and found out how to stream it. Sadly, it starts at 5:30 a.m., so I may miss it. Can’t wait to read about it!
Some cookies were made today but I’ll be doing most of my baking tomorrow. The dough is in the fridge. I’ll be doing more baking this weekend, hubs wants our own t-day leftovers and we always have a custard pie.
Well heck. I was hoping, but also know how Murphy is.
I bought a two burner hotplate while our kitchen was not working. I was really pleased with how well it worked, much better than the last time (40 years ago) that I used one. Do remember that the heating plates are smaller than you are used to so it will take longer to boil water.
There is a reason that I mostly post pics of sleeping cats.
Now that we are only a few miles away from the grocery sto, we are making a whole lot more trips than when it was 45 minutes one way. We also need to start planning better again.
That and my glasses is really the only reason I haven’t done anything with my hair myself. Except for the occasional drunk bang trimming sessions that is. Back when I had short hair, it was three inches on top to zero at the bottom. It was long enough to look “done” when I used product and short enough to not be a bother.
I really do think that’s what I will start doing after my stylist does a proper clean-up. I used to be able to put eye liner on, I can do this. And if I can’t? It’s hair, it will grow back out. At least I won’t be risking stabbing myself in the eye with make-up.
He still does the sideways fluffy cat thing at Jolene when they are playing. It cracks us up to see all of his hair standing on end while he bounces around on his tiptoes.
I don’t do the bowl thing, but I do always have everything out and ready. Once I’ve used something, it gets moved to a different counter. That helps me remember what I haven’t done.
What a pretty girl. How sweet of you to sleep on the floor with her. We do love them.
Those bastids! I’m looking forward to seeing both of them!
All of my games are silenced, even Diablo.
That looks pretty good and very low key! I’m glad you enjoyed
Not much has been going on here. Our housekeeper couldn’t make it over this morning because he’s still trying to finish moving, so he sent his ex-wife instead. (they have a very confusing relationship, but all of the kids - 7 total - are being cared for and happy.) I actually liked her better, she knew how to talk to the fuzzbutts and did a better job.
It’s good that I felt that way because housekeeper just passed his test to get his union card to work at the mines. There was a time when coal miners were pretty much indentured slaves, but those days are long gone. Nowadays, coal miners make very good money just walking in the door and things only get better once they’ve passed their probation.
We are happy for him. We want him to do well and make lots of money and pay into our social security. We hope his ex-wife will be willing to continue cleaning for us.
This seems to be a recurring theme. Do you ever get any feedback on why?
Usually it’s hygiene, transportation issues, or availability conflicts … has anyone ever told you why you’re not getting the job?
ETA: shit, ninja’d.
For me, it’s all about the popcorn, and yes I want 2x extra yellow goop. Yes, I know it’s not actually real butter; no, I don’t care.
I could happily bathe in that stuff.
Oooh. My skin would be buttery-smooth!!
I had to Google it, never heard of it before, but I am intrigued.
Tomorrow is gonna be one of our busiest days. Nobody wants to cook the day before Thanksgiving (or they’ve taken over the kitchen entirely) plus family & guests over … yeah. It’s pizza time.
Up there with NYE and the Superb Owl as our insane-o-pants days.
We usually do a little crew potluck for that day, so everyone stays fed while running around, although this year, only S.M. and alternate manager, and me, signed up.
Saddest potluck EVAH.
Ms. Alternate is bringing some sort of corn pudding (she calls it “corn stuff”) that I’m intrigued to try.
I bought a fruit tray & veggie tray (which should already be stashed in the walk-in, I swung by Wally World right after my shift, and then drove right back to work to hand it over, which felt weird … also being on the other side of the drive-thru felt super bizarre) I didn’t wanna hafta worry about remembering it tomorrow. S.M. signed herself up for “something delicious” so I suppose that’s TBD.
… wait, no, she said something about a crock-pot and Lil Smokies.
Look, there’s gonna be chaos, and food. That’s all I know for sure.
That’s a stream of words I never expected to see together.
Speaking of food & chaos!
Aw, man. Thus lies madness. @LSLGuy I’ll try to look for a streaming later. Like, way later.
I’m supposed to go to S.M. at 1:30 and I already had to set an alarm.
For noon! WTF.
If last year is any indication, imma eat about a week’s worth of food in one sitting (S.M. was genuinely concerned for a minute last year, “That’s more than I’ve ever seen you eat!”) then they’ll get all excited about watching some hoary old Christmas movie while I stretch out on the guest couch (with a plate of leftovers) pretend to watch the stoopit movie, and conk out.
I cackled.
“Don’t agree with me.”
I work with people like this. I’ve stopped asking questions - I’m not gonna remember the answer anyway - but … how does someone’s life get THAT complicated?
According to the New York Times, here’s how to watch the Macy’s Parade and our very own super star Dope balloon handler @LSLGuy:
… Those unable to make it to the parade route can watch on NBC or on the Peacock streaming service beginning at 8:30 a.m.
If you miss a favorite float, you’ll have a second chance to watch the whole thing during an encore telecast at 2 p.m.….
That 8:30am would be Eastern Time, so adjust according to your time zone. In the Midwest (or most of it), that would be 7:30am my prairie sunrise time.
Reasonable heaving, and Twilight didn’t leave me their damages to rewrap for once. Had a Manhattan, and Italian style chicken, rice, and tomatoes for dinner.
Looks good!
Happy Gotcha Day Allie!
I used to silence the Doom music, and play some metal while chainsawing Cacodemons
Coppertone, that’d be discouraging for anyone, and it’s so hard to get feedback. I wish I had some advice to give, but since I don’t, I’ll just send you some virtual sunshine.
Late night final here. Went back to the gym to sweat some more (I swear I spend more time there than at home, but at least I’m not snacking there) and am now home and thinking about bed-time. Still way behind on my NY Times reading (haven’t even started last Sunday’s edition) so need to buckle down and keep up with the news. The new jacket worked just fine in the 40F weather, comfortable and warm.
Real Fish, best wishes on the executorship of the house. Hope everyone gets to feeling better by Thorsday. And that was a pretty good price for a tire; mine were closer to $200 each.
Lily, that looked pretty good.
nellie, conga-rats to your friend and to you for doing the awkward but necessary thing.
JtC, interesting family there, but if the kids are loved and taken care of, who am I to disagree…)
shoe, haven’t been to a theater since, lets see, Avengers: Endgame so yeah, I probably need to go just for the bucket of exploding corn nuggets. With salt and goop. Good luck on Wednesday’s craziness.
And it’s after 10pm so need to throttle down and head off to bed. Take care all.
Ah, for me, it was The Simpsons Movie, so … yikes. Hot minute.
Figured out that fresh Wes-Co popcorn, with one of our garlic “butter” sauce cups poured over, makes a decent approximation, but without the screaming children.
