(Old, or maybe we mean Aulde) Happy Christmas MMP

I have a second key for the ignition and the seat lock. I was hoping to get the new gas cap altered to accept that key so that I’d only have one key on the fob instead of two.

Alarm went off at 5:45 but instead of hopping out of bed, I wrote an email to my sister and BIL wishing them an absolutely wonderful time on their trip to SoCal. They went to ‘the other school’ and so they’re going on the alumni trip to the Rose Bowl. A weird thing is that they’re staying in Santa Monica. As I started writing the email, it dawned on me that Hubs, daughter & I went exactly 10 years ago and we stayed about 1/2 mile from the basketball arena that the Lakers play at. It was very convenient to ride the mass transit. I also gave them some unsolicited advice to wear masks in the airport and particularly on the plane so they don’t end up like I did, in the First Aid area for about 3/4 of the game. There is always a 360 degree photo taken at the game and it captured me leaning over Hubs puking onto the stairway. Daughter escorted me down to the First Aid area and the first thing the policeman asked was how much I had to drink. I said nothing and of course daughter confirmed. So I missed most of the game but the Spartans prevailed over the Trees (weird mascot).

Went to mass since Hub’s Dr. said I shouldn’t go at all but I told her that I’d only go once a week on a weekday to the 6:30am mass when there’s hardly anybody there and she said ok.

Stopped at Kroger for a circular on the way home.

Washed a ton more dishes (holidays always require a lot of pots/pans/serving dishes). Did a load of laundry and hung it up. Used furniture polish on the piano and some other furniture in living room and arranged Christmas cards on piano. Made pozundek (spelling, help shoe) as my parents would say (meaning straightened things up) as Hubs BFF from HS/College was stopping by to visit. He and his wife drove down from the pinkie (Cedar, MI) to see Hubs before he goes in the hospital and to visit her brother and wife. Had a nice visit. Hubs and BFF reminisced about hijinks from college. I knew most of the stories. One had to do with laphroig. Hubs best man was also on their dorm floor and was from SoCal so knew about the ‘finer’ things and had a $60 bottle of laphroig (this was early '70’s). Well the guys got the friend high then drank most of the laphroig. Apparently when best man came down, he was pretty mad at them. Hubs and BFF had a good laugh about it.

Daughter decided to leave this evening so after BFF and wife left, I made her dinner (buccatini with ground beef/spag sauce and butternut squash steamed in pineapple juice) so she’d have a good meal before she left. Then we were scurrying around to get all her and Bella’s stuff together and in Hubs car. She’s going to have it until the Dr says Hubs can drive again which will be in about 5ish months.

Then Hubs and I ate. After which I’ve been reading the Dope and the MMP while listening to Yule Log music on TV and watching daughter’s progress along I94 on ‘Find My Friends’. Looks like there wasn’t much traffic tonight as she’s made very good time and is almost home. It’s only been 4 hrs since she left and she’s on the north side of downtown Chitown.

metal mouse glad you made it home safely. I think the mitten state must be experiencing El Nino as the temps have been in the 50’s/high 40’s for the last 3 days. Extremely unseasonable weather! Weird that metro Detroit is warmer than northern Alabammy.

Hurray! I’m so happy you got home the same day you had planned, sleeping in airports just doesn’t sound like a whole lot of fun.

You are right about the GC and the Meteor crater being a bit of a drive, but then we can come back through the painted desert and maybe stop at a Native American pottery stand or two.

Of course you enjoyed the observatory, it is a wonderful experience with many enthusiastic young docents who are happy to share their toys. Not to mention that it is just your cup of tea, so to speak!

So this morning I was able to make time for produce pick-up…mostly because I’ve committed to taking those non-driving women with me for the winter. They usually stop going when it gets cold, but we live out in the sticks and everyone needs to get out for a little socialization now and then, don’t want to risk going all Jack Nicholson on folks.

Now, those keys aren’t even close to each other, how the heck did VBC manage that? At least she didn’t turn my screen sideways this time.

I just got a call about another surplus delivery tomorrow. I’m flipping a coin over going. While I like supporting the program, just giving away the contents of “one” box can be an issue, I’ve run out of people to give more lettuce to.

NF has family visiting who shamed her for taking food intended for poor people (NF understands the program, but city folks often don’t understand that many farmers would rather give their surplus produce to people than pay to take it to a landfill.), so I probably can’t push anymore on her this week and I really don’t want to have to push it at working folks because then we will be driving around after a long day of driving around.

Maybe I’ll just smoke some more and think about it.

So reasonable heave, clean up the 300 Slide, then the 200 slide, because I’m better at package puzzles than Hazardous Ken and Deb. didn’t stay late today, because I had to take Roomie to PT and doc. Long story on that, healing well considering the difficulties, but. Do. No. Ever. Fall. On. That. Shoulder. Short nap, hockey and Teriyaki chicken, and now short nap before work.

Grand piano with a pool table topper. Go big or go home.

[8 year old boy] < giggles hysterically > [/8 year old boy]

(My post would have made much more sense if I had managed to type “resale” without getting autocorrected.)

But no matter, you are so right. Go big, or stay at home!

Happy Hump Day!

Another rainy, miserable day.
At least it’s in the high 40s, so not so cold.

Closing is at 1 tomorrow. I hope my son doesn’t have to work overtime tomorrow. He will get about two hours sleep in the morning, and then maybe another two hours in the afternoon.
There is stuff we have to get out of the basement. We have a little leeway because the buyer isn’t signing the papers until 3 on Friday.
There’s an armoire down there that I didn’t even know about. I have no idea how we are going to get it out.
The guys who cleaned up the tree out back were strong. I might give them a call.

Welcome home MetalMouse

The pain pills helped the other night. Helped a lot. I won’t go to bed without taking them again.
I told my friend, I wanted to cut into my leg and yank out the offending nerve.

The garage door still won’t close.
I need to call somebody to come out about it.
My son says we should take everything we don’t want and put it in the garage, leave the door open and the light on, and hope somebody comes by and steals everything.
Probably not where we are.

I’ve said before that if I eat rice, I’ll gain two pounds overnight. But God help me, I had rice tonight. I’m guessing up to half a cup. With Trader Joe’s Teriyaki Chicken. It was good, and I was full.

The chicken teriyaki was pretty darned good, but it was only dark-meat chicken with teriyaki sauce. I have a couple of chicken thighs in the freezer, and (I think) a bottle of Soy Vay teriyaki sauce in the cupboard. I think it would be better if I made it myself… especially if I used the grille.

I was looking for my The Pogues T-shirt, the one with the green shamrock and ‘The Pogues’. I couldn’t find it (only the one I bought at the last concert I went to, which I accidentally got bleach on), but I did find my Hawaii Volcanoes National Parks long-sleeve T-shirt that I haven’t seen in years.

JtC By Jack Nicholson on these people, I’m envisioning a really angry request for toast.

flyboy Hope you find the Pogues shirt.

Very close, and I knew what you meant.

It’s porządek. (The “rz” combo makes a sound like the 2nd “g” in “garage.”) The a with the squiggly tail is a unique sound not found in English, but it’s kinda like … “ahwng.”

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Bolding mine. So say we all.

Yesterday we went to the butterfly museum, which is almost an annual tradition. Visited the nocturnal part, which had previously been a bit heavy on the guano smell. This time it wasn’t so stinky, and we saw lots of Brazilian porcupines (the zoo breeds them), but we never found the sloth :frowning: . There was a keeper cleaning out the pond for the Tamandua and the Tamandua was trying to crawl up the keeper, like a cat or dog might do. So cute!

Today is back to collecting stuff for disposal and recycling and doing a few more things on the to-do list.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 46 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 63 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to make soup. That should occupy me for about three hours or so. The rest of the day shall be spent in sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Prime rib soup for sup. Hopefully 'twill be nummy. We bought a loaf of crusty French bread to go with.

MetalMouse glad you made it back to nawth Alabammy safe and sound.

doggio a grand piano with a pool table topper is just classy!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 14c/57f with no predicted change, and sunny. Weather app says “It’s a fucking average day, in every possible fucking way.”

I am still full of crud, and now I am hurting all round from coughing. Also feel like I haven’t slept all night but I must have done because I remember some odd bits of dreams. Up and medicated, got a cup of tea and contemplating a shower too. It’s our last full day here so we should go out and do something although I don’t feel up to much.

I booked a coue of clases in the gym for Sunday so that will get me out of the house and back on the fitness train before the influx of New Year’s Resolutionaries :rofl:

No, he’s set on a pool table, not new, of course, and we’ll have to hire someone to deliver it and set it up - neither of us are young enough or strong enough any longer.

He’s actually talked about putting one downstairs for almost as long as we’ve lived here. It may happen now. Or not. Since his renewed interest in the boat, that may occupy him full time.

When I was first in the Navy going thru training in Millington, a group of us would play bumper pool during lunch - I liked it, tho I wasn’t very good at it. I’ve played regular billiards also - I expect we’d make use of a table, especially when weather was sucky.

I’ve been to the local IHOP a few times, not as my choice, and I was unimpressed. Plus they do Pepsi rather than Coke, so ick! :stuck_out_tongue: And the nearest Denny’s is in Waldorf, 23 miles away. We used to go fairly often, but the service was erratic. Sometimes it was great, other times, we were almost ignored. Food was generally OK, not great, but FCD likes the place for some reason.

We’ve pretty much given up on the local Bob Evans - mediocre food and indifferent service, plus they don’t serve Coke. A new place opened recently, called The Local - their brunch menu looks interesting, so we may check them out.

Having Daughter and her kids to supper on top of my other kitchen activities gave me a full dishwasher plus a full pile on the counter of stuff that wouldn’t fit in the dishwasher. It all needs to be put away today before I make more dirties… never ends, does it?

There’s a mental image. Speaking of grand pianos - I’m occasionally surprised to see them offered for cheap or free! I lusted after a baby grand once upon a time, but I hardly touch the piano I have - I doubt I’d make much time for a grand, baby or otherwise. A harpsichord, on the other hand…

That doth suck mightily! And it’s something I worry about with our impending trip - should I take some Nyquil in case? We’ve already decided we’ll mask on the planes. At the moment, we’re both on the edge of getting something - probably the crud Roxy and Tobias had. I just hope it hits and goes before the 18th. We have trip insurance and all that, but we don’t need to get sick as we’re getting ready to go. Or once we’re at sea. Dammit.

FCD fixed his mother’s headboard yesterday, so we’re taking it over to the apartment today, along with the mirror for her dresser and some miscellany that’s made its way to our house. Other than that and emptying the dishwasher, I have no plans. Oh, except to build a couple of meatloaves for the freezer - I bought some ground beef at Aldi yesterday.Otherwise, I guess I’ll just wing it today. The rain has passed and we might see 60° today, of all things!

Onward! Happy Thursday!!

I had big plans to cook some osso bucco for lunch today, having bought a couple of lovely ones at a butcher’s a couple of weeks ago. We haven’t had this dish in years, and it sounded good.

But I’ve had a rebound of Covid overnight, just when it looked like that plague had left my body. I spent the night congested and scratchy, and now I feel sick again.

So no fancy cooking today, just heating up some frozen dinners that we luckily have on hand. Also no housework like I planned. The house is a bit of a wreck, as I’ve been out of commission for about ten days due to the plague.

i have always wanted a harpsicord. there was one that was in the window of the piano store…so beautiful, so tempting.

we are having pacific northwest weather in philly; it is foggy, misty, and drippy. where is my snow??!

sari glad to hear the pain pills helped; would putting a reminder note somewhere in bedroom help (door, headboard, etc)?
I dislike throwing things out (reduce/reuse/recycle is my mantra) so I like your son’s suggestion; although it wouldn’t work here either.

Djenkujie.

You’re GREAT company!

I just can’t imagine having to get up and out by 2am to go to work.

boofae A nice long hot shower always makes me feel so much better when fighting a cold; hope it does the same for you.

Agree :100: %

Excellent, excellent idea!!! And you just might consider wearing the hospital type gloves or be sure not to touch anything, particularly in the seat pocket, on the plane so you don’t end up the way I did at the Rose Bowl 10 yrs ago.

lucky :people_hugging:

that’s what we’ve had for the last week in the mitten state. If it had been below 32, we would have had at least half a foot of snow with all the precip but nary a flake with 40’s and 50’s temps.

After I signed off the MMP last night, I worked on my celebrity dead pool list to be submitted by midnight CT 12/31. I think I’ve got some good names so will be waiting until 11:50pm or so. Our dear cupcake is the deathmistress and does a great job.

Need to get some work done today, particularly in the living room as that is where the birthday present for Hubs will go when it’s delivered tomorrow. Have to pay the CC bill for it today and it’s going to take a chunk out of my bank account as it’s a NuStep. I ordered it on Cyber Monday so got a nice discount but still quite expensive, more than I wanted to pay, but with Hubs not going to be able to go to the Fitness Center for about 5 months, it’s a good investment in his physical fitness. I will use it as well since my PT told me in 2015 that I need to use it 2-3 times a week in order for me to not experience pain in my knee.

Enjoy the day as much as is possible (even if it’s just a small amount).

De nada!

I K R ?

Had a rough night, out both ends at the same time kind of bad.

I tend to play fast’n’loose with leftovers (I hate cold, reheated stuff so it tends to sit around on my table until I get back to it) and like nearly all bad habits, you get away with it … until you don’t.

Finally got some sleep (so deeply that I woke literally drooling, and I virtually never do that!) and in fact dreamed that I’d taken sleeping pills!

Feeling much better now, and am cautiously nibbling a Wendy’s breakfast sammich. Coaxed myself into getting - and eating - something hot and freshly cooked with a bribe of a dispo stop on the way back for a few weekend prerolls.

Currently assimilating both. Will probably lie back down in a bit, once Monkey comes back from exploring in the chilly, drippy great outdoors.

I’m not sick (yet - there’s a lot of 'Rona shooting around our location, and much worse at the sister franchise so they can’t spare anyone to help us out) but that actually sounds really good right now!

Ugh, and yeah, we’re short staffed, and my Sweet Manager will hafta come in on her day off to close. She did not haz a happy about that last night.

I’m trying to post a pic from Imgur and get the message that it’s too big, even though I have resized it. HALP!

Morning all. Guess traveling takes a bit out of one, was nearly 8:30am before I crawled out of bed. Stripped said bed and turned the water back on to wash the sheets and pillowcases, and refill the terlets. Need to do a little banking and foraging this morning, then off to the gym this afternoon. 41F heading to 46F today and no rain to be seen.

JtC, have only slept in one airport in my life, in Lima, Peru of all places. Other times the airport put us up in hotels at their expense. And hope you and the ladies enjoyed the surplus visit. And NF family is a little…dense…I think.

Sari, hope the armoire was removed without resorting to hacksaws…

Dicey, appears they had more than butterflies there; looks like a great place to visit.

Fell better soon boo fae; some long-distance hugs to you. Hope you can do the gym stuff.

And hope you feel better soon too, lucky; tis’ the season, I reckon.

FCM, hoping for good health and concur with your precautions.

Cat Glove, that was a thoughtful gift for Hubs and also a nice reminder to take care of himself (if he forgets I’m sure you’ll remind him).

shoe, reheated stuff is better than taking a chance with a Emergency Room visit; take care of yourself!

Can’t help you wet one, never have used Ingur; good luck.

OK, need to change the stuff to the dryer, perform the necessary bathroom operations and head out on my errands for the morning. Take care all.
