(Old) Prepping for a visit in the MMP

Good morning, everyone. It was 73ºF with a dew point of 71ºF. It seemed a bit darker this morning, but the sunrise was nice. I couldn’t figure out which view was better, so two for the price of one!
Top of the hill.

Fifteen minutes later at the dog park

The bun count was only one. It was a wee young one. It’s getting late in the season, and the only rabbits about are the ones that are good at hiding.

Mrs Magill and Squeaky got in a little after twelve last night, about a half hour after I had gone to bed. I was going to wait up for them, but was nodding off. I also figured if Chloé were out and about when they got home, she would too revved up to go to bed peacefully. So I put her in her crate, and climbed into bed.

Lucky The carnitas sound incredible. I’ll have to look into it.

Eight, according to the wiki.

nut Leave a locked desk drawer full of eldritch diagrams, with zero explanation and a handwritten copy of the text from The Cat in the Hat transliterated into the Hindi alphabet.

No - at least I don’t. My house is pre-wired for surround sound, but we never used it. I’m happy with my two front speakers for music. If I’m going to watch a movie, I’ll use my bone conducting headphones over Bluetooth.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 60F and mostly clear outside. It’s supposed to be cloudy today, with a high of 85F. We managed to hit 89F and it was definitely warm (for me).

Nuts, I would be more worried about the elderberries than the rain, lol!

JtC, I’m glad you might be able to get back in the kitchen, and I’m sure you are, too!

Red, sending you good thoughts for good lab results so you don’t have to be hospitalized. Also sending hugs.

Bright Tree, I certainly hope the pond guy shows up soon and that he’s not shining you on. Ollie would certainly be doted on here. Your property sounds like something I’ve wanted my whole adult life: away from people and growth. When the kids were little, we opted to live in the suburbs so they would be close to playmates.

Chef, I’m glad you’re feeling better today.

Yesterday’s doctor visit confirmed what I suspected: cloudiness in the lens behind BOTH eyes now. So now, in addition to the appointment for a specialist up north (hopefully same-day) laser zapping, I have ANOTHER appointment at the optometrist next month. I am sick of doctor visits. I’m not in pain; it’s not earth-shattering, but it’s just annoying. I’ve been farting around with eye stuff since May, and I’m sick of it.

After the doctor’s visit, I drove over to Home Depot. They had some nice plants there, but I didn’t buy a single thing. I thought about driving to Lowe’s too, but in the end, I nixed that plan. After Home Depot, I drove to Safeway and picked up doggy ice cream, bread, bananas, yogurt, Doritos for my husband, Diet Coke (buy two, get two), bananas, and a few other items. Not much, but the total was over $113. The very elderly gentleman in line behind me even said, “Geez, I’m glad that’s not my bill.”

When I got home, Maisie seemed very stressed out. Like fireworks-level stressed out, with the panting that comes along with it. I don’t know why, and neither did my husband, who was home but had his headphones on and couldn’t hear anything. She eventually calmed down, and we decided to go out to dinner at a little bistro that we like.

I have to say, I was disappointed. They were having a bad night for sure. This place has never disappointed us, but they literally had one person in the kitchen and the hostess, who was also trying to help there. When we arrived, there was only one other table that had four people. By the time we left there were three other tables. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food.

The food, while good, was not up to their usual standards. Also, they’ve changed the menu quite a bit and are trying to spread out the food options. It’s a European bistro, with most of the original offerings being from the Alsace region of France. Yesterday’s specials included chili verde. On the menu was some duck confit item made with udon noodles. I mean, I can understand trying to liven up the menu, but this was like a complete left turn.

Upon our return, Maisie seemed okay, but after dinner started stress panting again, and was sticking to me like glue. I spent all evening with her glued to my back behind me on the couch. I opted to sleep in the guest room, with the door closed last night (very restless night for me), and this morning, she seemed okay. But, she usually heads right back upstairs after her breakfast, and today, she’s sticking to me like glue. She was panting from stress for about 10 minutes this morning, but that’s abated.

I think I might have to call the vet. I have the patio door people coming sometime between 10 and noon today, but I’ll call after that. I want to make sure she’s not hurting. I don’t see wounds or lumps, but it never hurts to make sure.

I guess I’d better get going. I never did rollsuck yesterday, so I want to get up the dog hair. The kitchen is already clean.

Please take care of yourselves.

Anyway, it took forever to get the food, and the mushroom gravy that accompanied my husband’s weiner schnitzel was served in a tiny condiment cup, mostly mushrooms with no gravy.

I’m not sure I’m in a hurry to go back.

And a good Firday morning all. Have done the Firday shopping and collected my Kroger points (1800 so far this month) and broken fast, so the morning is starting off promising. The rain last night has departed and left clear skies, but it’s still due to reach 90F. Have nothing much on the agenda today, we’ll see what ambition I have left at the end of the week. Soccer gets started in earnest tomorrow, I’ll referee two games at least and we’ll see what else develops.

boo fae, hope the Doc visit goes fine, and walking into town in a half-hour…it would take me 90 minutes to walk to what we call the center of town and there’ s not much there.

swampy, there were still thunderbolts and lightning when I went to bed here (not too frightening, however) but managed to get to sleep without to much trouble. But agreed, the lawn definitely needed it and the timing was almost perfect.

FCM , enjoy the boating time.

Nut, laundry on the line is always tempting the Weather Wizards to send rain, they are right b****ds about that. And like you I occasionally hear the bin drivers on the next street over and have to rush to get mine out to the curb.

Cookie, take care.

Knots, so jealous; I won’t have the A/C off and windows open until October in all likelihood.

Mollie, another lovely picture this fine morning.

Taters, can’t blame you on being tired of seeing the Medicos, but if they can help, it’ll be worth it in the long run. My shopping bill today was about $100 too, for not all that much. Sorry that dinner was disappointing, I don’t eat very fancy but I’ve noticed staff in a lot of places seem short-staffed these days–and changing the menu around doesn’t help. And I’m with you that a vet call is a good idea, Maisie seems to be telling you something isn’t right.

And that’s all for the morning report. Take care and I’ll be back sometime today.

Second the motion!

67 ferrets at 1200; predicted high 74. (Yesterday’s high was 82 out of a predicted 79.) Mid 70s the rest of the week, with rain most days and nights.

Mollie, I prefer the second picture. This is the best way to see sunrise – through other people’s photos.

I just realized that I reached a milestone this month. My sister died at 76. My brother at 78. And my mother at 79y2mo24d. As of today, I hit 79y3mo8d, so I am now the longest living family member since my grandmother died at 92. It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but I’ve been obsessing over whether I’ll make it out of my 70s or not. I’ll take it for a win.

Afternoon all. Outside of some sammiches for lunch, nothing of consequence has been accomplished since shopping so guess I’ll pack my gym bag and head off to sweat some calories. It’s 91F and the chances of rain have increased to 25% today, so we’ll see how it develops.

Cookie, my mom passed away at 75 and my Dad at 92. I’m at 73 now and while I should outlive Mom, we’ll have to see if I can surpass Dad. And once you complete your 80th trip around the sun, well, no reason you can’t stick around for another decade or so…

And time for sweatage.

It’s been an unexpectedly lovely morning here - surprise storms have slowly made their way through and it is only 77F/25C here, which is a minor miracle for August. The weather guessers still think we’ll get above 100 today, but I really hope they’re wrong. It’s been like living on the face of the sun the last several weeks.

I’ve been working on my least favorite task at work all week so I am very glad to be able to log off for the day and leave it behind for a few days. It isn’t done unfortunately but I’m hoping to sneak in a vacation day sometime next week anyway.

Dinner plans with a friend tonight - here’s hoping she picks someplace good!

red I hope you get good news today.

Mollie I love the sunrise photos you post.

Taters a bad restaurant meal is always so disappointing. There’s several places around here I’ve just had to write off because they’ve gone downhill so much lately.

Cookie congrats on the milestone!

Rinse and repeat on today’s chaos. bonus: A case of vanilla coffee syrup busted open between Secondary and the 300 Table, so the boxline smelled like artificial vanilla coffee, and any number of packages were slightly sticky. It was only in the low 80s, but the humidity felt like 90s. It’s cloudy, but the rad shows all the storms went north or south of the central section of N.C. I stopped and got vermin food and some catfish nuggets for tonight’s dinner. Laundry is in the dryer, so a quick nap before preseason handegg.

Secret journal with plant scribblings, a few ripped out pages, maybe an abrupt end of writing, with a drop or 2 of blood on the last page.

:+1:

Hope Maisey’s OK, Taters.

As will we.

added 6 snails to the office tank. this tank will need a heater, the water is in the mid 60’s. it is cold here in the office. the plants are a bit melty. i’m betting on the water temp. uff.

mollie, i really like that switch cover. now i’m wondering if there is a rubber duck version…

Well, I’ve apparently lost weight over the past couple of years. I’m down to 202. Last time I weighed in that range was when I had knee surgery and dropped below 200. The doctor said I looked white around the eyes, so they took some blood to check for anemia.

Sadie was unhappy this morning. She upchucked a bit, yowled around, then had some diarrhea (had to clean off her fir) and was generally not happy with life. She seems to be feeling better this afternoon

My pseudo-obsession: My dad died at 72. His dad died at 72. His mother died in 1972. I’m 72… But I’m pretty sure I’m in better health than the lot of them. I know I take better care of myself than my dad did.

Back from the boat. SIL’s friends opted out, so it was all family. We putted about on the bay, circling a LNG tanker that was an anchor. I assume it was waiting to offload at the Cove Point terminal, but it needs tugs to get it over there. On the way back, I had a major brain fart and passed the river entrance - Daughter pointed out that we were headed for the base. Major brain fart! All told we were out between 3 and 4 hours, and it was a bit bouncy at times, but overall a nice day. We left the rest at the pool and now we’re at home in chill mode.

I’ve decided tomorrow will be laundry day, since it’s supposed to rain all day anyway. Supper will be forage. Nothing else of significance on tap today.

I hope Maisie is feeling better taters.

Same goes for Sadie, cookie.

nut, one of the constant memories of my mom was hanging out the family wash. Unless it was pouring rain or cold enough to freeze the clothes, it was outside, given that we didn’t have a dryer. I recall her coming in with an armload of sheets once muttering Jesus, Mary and Joseph! Some dirty bird has shat on my laundry! Keep in mind that she was still using a wringer washing machine, that was a lot of extra work.

I went in for more labs today and should have the results this evening. In the last 10 days, I’ve dropped 16 lbs.

The new med seems to be helping. I’m still feeling pretty puny, but not as bad as yesterday. It really pissed me off the hoops I had to jump through to wind up paying out of pocket for it. For a $25 prescription that will likely keep me out of the hospital they wanted to make me wait up to 5 days approval. I hate f!@#ing American healthcare.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

She seems to have perked up quite a bit. She’s noshing on some canned chicken as I write.

Yeah, same here. My mother had aggressive cancer, my sister had chronic lymphocytic leukemia (a very long term thing), and my brother had a leg amputated because of diabetes. Compared to them, I’m the picture of health.

As predicted, yesterday was another very long day: 11.5 hours this time. I’m very glad that my current program allows me to be paid for the hours I work (I’m exempt, so usually I only get my salary no matter what), but I’m also pretty tired. I worked from home today – only 7.5 hours! – and had ideas about going to the grocery store and maybe the local Bricks & Minifigs (to sell a bunch of extra Lego bricks), but it’s 5pm and I just logged off…and I’m not going anywhere this evening.

I had my deck inspected this afternoon. I arranged for two inspections, and they both agree that the deck currently isn’t safe for use; not a big shock. Seems that in addition to a handful of rotten deck boards, there are 2-4 rotten joists. At least the beams are still in good shape, and only one handrail post needs to be replaced. I should have both reports by COB Monday, and will pass the news along to my property manager. I hope his parents are willing to get the repairs done: the deck is one of the reasons I chose this house, and I really don’t want to spend the next 22 months (I signed a 2-year lease) being pissed off/annoyed…and then have to move again.

I’m between big Lego sets (the next one won’t be delivered until next week), but I have three very small sets that were gifts with purchase and I plan to tackle them this evening before I relocate to the TV room for the night. They won’t take long, but long enough to let me play with a new toy that got delivered on Wednesday…

When I build Lego, I typically have two iPads on the table: my iPad Pro displays the build instructions, and my iPad Air streams TV shows. Well, last weekend I disassembled the Atari 2600 system I put together a year ago (and only used once), which means the 16" portable TV I’d bought for game display became available…so, of course, I decided that instead of playing TV shows on an 11" iPad screen I’d get a $30 Roku stick and use the 16" TV. I love new gadgets, and am looking forward to wasting some time setting that up while I eat dinner.

I hauled the biiiiiiig trash can to the curb at around 7:45am, and it was downright cool outside! With a breeze, even! Which led me to discover that I can’t open the window in my home office. I’m hoping it’s just slightly stuck – like the one in the third bedroom was[1] – but it’s behind my desk and I can’t get enough leverage to open it. I’ll have to wait until I have a visitor with more strength/longer arms.

I like them both, but prefer this one.

That was my first thought after reading about all of the random panting…I hope she’s OK!

My father will turn 78 in two months, at which time he will have lived longer than both of his parents (who died at 61 and 77) and his older brother (75). My mom died at 67, but I’ll have a ways to go to beat her parents (83 and 92…and her big brother was 81).

:crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

Yay!

  1. I was able to brute-force that one ↩︎

Howdy Y’all! Today started off not quite like planned. We discovered a tree limb down in the front yahd. Fortunately it was not a big one, but still needed to be dealt with. So instead of the plan to take care of duties and be bears who brunch, we hacked up the limb and I took it to the dump. After that I no longer wanted to deal with the other stuff or go to Eggs Up, so I cleanded up again, and we went to Jack’s for lunch. Maybe tomorrow mornin’ we can be bears who brunch. I will have to go over to the church house no matter what cause those candles will not fill themselves up. We’ve had steady rain over the past three hours. There have been tstorms all around up, but no thunder and lightnin’ at da cave. However, the rain is nice and it has cooled down wonderfully!

Nuts I, no doubt like several others, thought immediately of “Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries.” Glad the bin drama was just almost. When my younger brother died, there were several things in his house that my next to oldest brother, sis, and I got rid of before the 'rents and my oldest brother could see them. Pr0n and umm.. related items to be exact.

Cookie glad the headache and dizziness are gone. Not a bad idea to take it easy today. I have a wellness visit this next week. I find it totally useless but it makes my PCP happy, so I shall deal.

Knotty I agree. I don’t need all that foofoo stuff either. I just want basic.

Taters hope the two appointments will take care of everything. I would be truly sick of it all as well. Sorry the Bistro was sucky. Sometimes maybe it’s best to leave well enough alone. Hope Maisie is better now, poor baby!

doggio I bet the artificial vanilla coffee syrup was a sickenin’ smell! I don’t like the smell of just a little of it, so, GAG!!!

Mollie I like the second sunrise pic the best.

Oopsie hope the deck gets fixed soonest. Surely the owners can see the value for future rentals. Plus, I can’t help but think it could be some kind of safety hazard. Enjoy the new techie gadgets!

More adventures in public transit.
I got to the bus shelter in front of the grocery store and there was a couple sitting there. They had a plastic bag with a restaurants takeout dinner. The woman went to check their truck which was parked at the restaurant.
Not sure why they were at the bus stop then.
The guy burped and I said, “good one!”
He said thanks, it Was a good one.
The bus comes and I enter and look and he is actually openly drinking a beer out of the can.
Um, thats open container.
Weird.

You nailed it!

[sez the cranky night nurse who is heading off to the PT in a minute for her first appt because her left hip down to her knee decided a few days ago to Just.Stop.Working.And.Be.Excrutiatingly. Painful.]

Evening all. Got the calorie-burning done at the gym, helped with the U7 soccer ‘jamboree’ and signed up to referee another game tomorrow, so a fairly active afternoon. I’ll be coaching a U7 team this season and working with a group of 6-year old boys will be…interesting times…

First game tomorrow is 9:45am, so I’ll be turning in fairly early tonight as it will in the 80’sF for my games. Have water bottles already packed.

52, hope dinner out was good and let you forget work for awhile.

Cookie, I was at 206 last Monday when I did my last weight-check, I’m hoping to be under 205 by next Monday (I’m 6’1" so not to bad). Hope the only anemia you have is at the bar, as in anemia drink…

red, I’ve been working on losing weight for years now and if I dropped 16lbs in 10 days I’d be concerned; glad to hear the new med is helping.

Oopsie, pay or not, that’s a lot of hours working, take care of yourself. And hope the property folks realize that getting it repaired now is probably going to be cheaper than waiting for it to deteriorate further. Enjoy the gadgets, I tend to tolerate new stuff but am in no hurry to adopt them (got my first cellphone about 3 years ago).

swampy, I had the four trees the original builder had put in dug out many years ago and all told, I think it was a smart idea, by now they would be dominating my yard and messing it up (IMHO).

Coppertone, guess he figured the cops weren’t going to bust him if he wasn’t flaunting his drinking. Or something…

{{BBBoo}} for the PT session and a quick healing.

And after 9pm, so need to finish up my internetting and get a good night’s rest because tomorrow the youth soccer season starts and will make my Saturdays much more interesting. Take care all.

Up from naptime. Having a Monte Cassino, Cajun catfish nuggets, and rice with tomatoes, peppers, and onions.

Good. And hope you’re not anemic.

They’re hoping you give up and die, so your premium is 100% profit.

Oddly normal for the bus.

{{{BBBoo}}}. At least I know you won’t pick at it.

We”ll all take it for a win!
