Home. Closed the last two nights & close tomorrow, so once I dropped off Car(e)less it was time to strip out of ALL THE THINGS and slip into a housedress and just SIT.
There’s some stuff I wouldn’t mind getting from the grocery store, but I’d hafta, like, get back up, put on shoes & a bra … meh.
I left Coolio running all evening, so the house is comfy, so I turned it off & in the ensuing quiet am enjoying a nearby frog peeping its lil’ noggin off.
There must be different species 'round here; on the way home there was a clear “ribbit, ribbit” and if you don’t think I didn’t “RIBBIT!” right back out the window, we haven’t met.
A woman I know has finally gotten housing.
She had a cat. Now she messages me showing the letter from her landlord saying its unauthorized and she must keep it out of her apt or be evicted and do I want it.
I am not getting a cat until I have enough money to take care of it proper.
The hell was she thinking?
I doubt she could pay for any vet care, she switches jobs often.
I would have to get permission from Housing, along with all records, plus extra cost for having one.
It was a lovely day! We started out with 55Ferrets and topped out at around 75F. My kinda weather.
I suppose I can take care of your share. I did learn there is wide variation in blackberry quality depending on where one lives, though. When I last visited my parents in Arizona, I wanted to bake a blackberry pie for them. We went to some upmarket store in their area and I purchased what looked like the most luscious blackberries one could ever hope to eat. Made the pie. It was inedible. The berries were tasteless and simply wouldn’t cook properly. Blackberry pie is my absolute favorite, and I tossed that sucker right in the trash. Horrible! So now I only make pies and preserves from my own blackberries.
Sorry you endured the nasty surprise of a downed tree limb in your yahd! That happens to me now and then, too. Sometimes it’s a whole tree. Sounds like you and OYKW made short work of it, though.
Ollie tears up any kind of nice bedding in his crate, so all he gets are ratty towels, too. He doesn’t soil them, but he does chew them a bit.
Wise choice, as we can see from Bbbooo’s posting! Hope your efforts get you back to cooking again soon.
If you lived nearby, they would all have been yours. Instead, I wrapped them carefully and put them in the freezer for next Wednesday.
Glad things have finally cooled off for you, BooFae! Sounds like you had a pretty fine day your own self!
Loved both the photos today, Mollie. Thanks as ever for sharing them. I haven’t seen any buns lately at all. I keep looking, though.
No, I don’t feel he is. He called last night just after 5 and said another job ran long. In his line of work, I do understand that. But I nailed him down to next Wednesday and he assured me there was nothing else on his schedule that day. So hopefully, this pond debacle will soon pass. Oh, I hope so…
Ollie is checking bus schedules.
If this sort of lifestyle appeals to you (as it does to me), then yes, this is a dream property. When my husband was alive, it felt like our own private Eden. After he died, well… I still love it, but I feel more like a caretaker now. And not a great one at that. I do know people who didn’t even like to come visit. For some folks, the idea of living in the middle of a dense forest with big trees and lots of ravens, bears, cougars and other scary wildlife is not in the least attractive.
Funny story, if I may indulge in a little sidetrack: The people who built the original home took 2 years to construct it. They lovingly documented every bit of the process and put it on a VCR tape that I still have. Then they moved in… and spent one night. One night only. Apparently the wife was completely hinked out at the remoteness of the place and the absolute dark. They used the property for day excursions, but they never spent another night here. All I could think was, “In 2 years of construction, did you not notice where the place was situated??”
If I’d had children, I imagine I’d have made a similar choice as yours, Taters.
I hope the eye issues are resolved with the specialist and one final laser zapping. And I’m sorry the formerly-nice bistro was such a disappointment! Sending good thoughts for Maisie as well. Poor sweetie!
Glad you’re still with us, cookie! Longevity is such an odd thing. Sometimes it follows family history, but often, it doesn’t. Glad Sadie has come good.
Enjoy dinner out with your friend, 52!
Ugh. That would ruin anyone’s day.
Red, glad the new med is better for you. And I’m with you entirely on the state of American healthcare. We’ve screwed up so bad.
Oopsie, I’ll add my hopes to those of others that your property manager will grasp the wisdom of making deck repairs sooner rather than later. And I would definitely communicate to him about the importance of the deck to you in deciding to rent the place, as well as suggest your concerns about safety leaving it as it is. Good luck!
There are some people who just can’t not drink. More of them than we wish. I hope he didn’t drive, at least.
Love it. Glad your house is comfy and you’re enjoying a nice evening in the coolness!
Oh, Bbbooo, I hope this resolves for you soon. Immobility is scary, to say nothing of the pain you’re enduring. Big hugs, and please keep us posted.
As mentioned, it’s been a very nice day. I did absolutely nothing I didn’t want to. Went out and picked some more blackberries in the cool, cloudy morning. It will be a daily effort over the next few weeks to get as many as I want for the year. I did a little house tidying, but not much. Played with Ollie a few times. We both like that.
The best thing was, I got a nap! They almost never happen. But it was a perfect hour and a half in the middle of the day, and I loved it! Must try again soon.
Breakfast was smoked salmon and cream cheese on… Ciabatta bread? Yes. Ciabatta bread, because I didn’t feel in the mood to make bagels. Maybe tomorrow. Another perfect peach and a couple of hard boiled eggs rounded out the fast-breaking.
Dinner was a few slices of leftover London Broil, a locally-grown tomato sliced and salted and some steamed green beans. I love all the local produce at this time of year!
Have delightful evenings, all. Or best you can, if you’re hurting.
Unless you’d be horribly uncomfortable without it, the bra is probably optional. Shoes, OTOH, aren’t (that whole “no shirt, no shoes, no service” thing). Depending on where you shop, at this hour you’re not likely to be the only bra-less female shopper.
Same for everybody else’s health stuff. Being an RDOS requires a lot of physical maintenance!
I’m 6 weeks into the aligner trays and just switched to the 4th set. It’s going pretty well, though the 3rd set had a sharp edge I couldn’t file down well, and it really tore up my tongue.
We spent some time in Point Roberts this week. It’s a little thumb of the US sticking off of Canada. Several nice parks with easy trails.
Speaking of older, S.M. sent me to the Corner Sto’ for smokes (the regular cashiers there all know us & what we’re buying, and who for) and one of the newer cashiers CARDED ME. I’m closer to fiddy than I thought possible in my 20s, and I gotta show … da heq?
Florida would like a word.
I am! I decided to save my pennies procrastinate on shopping, so I’m snacking on a variety of, well, snacks, while Monkey wanders around in his jacket & I keep listening to the crickets & frogs out there.
I hate the heat, I really do, and there’s something so magical about the muffled silence during a nighttime snowfall in winter - and the sparklies the next day! - but summer nights have a lovely quality to them, too, I guess. (Especially when you’re not in Satan’s armpit Texas.) The constant tree frogs here are wonderful.
Snax: Soup, a crusty roll, an empanada & a samosa, plus some crackers with cream cheese & the bitter marmalade I am just blowing through.
It was not grocery-store price (cuz that’s not a low bar these days) and I already want more of my fancy soup.
Dammit.
Got paperwork today to get health insurance through work. (Yeah, yeah, I haven’t seen a doc in years. Don’t tell my mommy.)
Neighbors up the street sound like they’re gettin’ into a good old-fashioned Friday night screaming match.
I dunno what he did, but she feels some types of ways about things.
Lightning on the horizon - maybe we’ll get rain again tonight. Monkey went AWOL for a while eaelier but wisely decided that perhaps sleeping where it’s dry & there’s a stocked food bowl might be a good idea after all.
BrightTree it’s probably the variety for blackberries, though the amount of light also makes a difference. As it happens, I occasionally work with some blackberry breeders. It seems a lot of the genes for flavour are connected to other unwanted stuff- either it’s controlled by the same gene or it’s another gene that’s really close on the same chromosome. It’s hard to tell sometimes, but they tend to be inherited together. Breeding for no prickles almost always takes a lot of the flavour out, breeding to not turn reddish when chilled sometimes does as well. Because you don’t get to taste them, people choose berries that look amazing in the shops even if they taste of nothing, which means a lot of growers grow those that are easy to pick and look great over ones that don’t look so great but taste better.
Round here, unless you get a perfect sunny site, the wild blackberries are too sour to eat, but they’re great cooked, especially with apples. That’s a point actually; this is peak blackberry season. I should go forage for some… That could be part of today’s plan, it’s too nice out there to stay in, and I need some exercise having been sitting like a gremlin at the computer all week.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of only 89 and partly to mostly cloudy. I shall betake myself over to the church house to deal with duties this mornin’. OYKW will accompany and then, finally, we shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up for today’s main need to feed. Then we will be RDOS sloths as is our wont. It was still rainin’ when I went to bed last night, so I had a really good night’s sleep with only one bio break. Bliss!
Coppertone was the man then invited to leave the bus? Also, I am positive that complimentin’ one after a good burp is proper ettiquette.
{{{BBBoo}}} hope the hip is all better soonest!
MetalMouse I had a bunch of pine trees removed before the cee-mint pond was built. However, I still have to fish pine needles out constantly because my neighbors are rude and allow the pine needles from their trees to just go wherever they want.
shoe I always “ribbit” back at frogs. It just seems uncouth not to.
BrightTree the remoteness sounds good to me. And really, in two years time it never occurred to her that the place is remote? Clueless is a lifestyle for some folk.
Nuts happy blackberry foragin’ if that’s what you decide to do. I was forced to pick wild blackberries as a child. Since I don’t like the nasty things I resented havin’ to pick 'em.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy so’s I can take meds. Then I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 20c/68f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect fucking day to shit in the yard. If you’re a fucking dog.”
Cookie congratulations on outliving everyone else I hope Sadie is feeling more like herself today too.
Taters I’m sorry the restaurant meal was disappointing, that will always sour you on a place you may have previously been fond of. I hope everything is ok with Maisie.
red fingers crossed for good results - that’s a lot of weight to loose in a short time.
{{{{{BBBoo}}}}} hope you feel better soon!
Bright Tree I would love to live somewhere that got completely dark at night! Of course, I happen to have a street light right outside…
My bonus working from home day yesterday was nice, I nipped out to see the GP in the morning then logged back in and irked for the rest of the day. I answered a couple of tricky things, neither of which could be resolved so those will be lurking around on Monday for me. After work, I had a nice relaxing bath, spent some time with Muffin, then went to have a bit of sofa time with Blossom while 'im indoors was making dinner. We watched a film and I was in bed by 11pm.
Up early this morning, tended to the needs of cats and then went to the gym to burn just over 660 cals on the pushme-pullyou, then hauled some weights around. Back home for restorative showering and cups of tea before we head out for the rest of the day.
No big plans, I need to get more cat litter so that means going to the retail park which is conveniently close to Jack’s Café so that sorts out lunch. I need to get a couple of things in town, then we need to go to a particular supermarket for their own-brand cat treats, then home to drop the car off before we go back into town.
‘im indoors has expressed a desire for day drinkin’ as this is our last completely free weekend until the beginning of November! His wish is my command
Yeah, even when the gummint covers part of it as a retirement benefit. And as $$$ as ours is, it’s still cheaper than getting equivalent coverage under the alphabetic Medicare parts. Tho I believe a more appropriate term than essssspensive is obscene!!
I awoke to gentle rain, and it’s supposed to continue all day and into tonight, temps staying in the 70s. We’re planning to go out for breakfast, then I’ll spend a substantial hunk of the day doing laundry. Rah.
I was up till after midnight because I decided to watch A Chorus Line on Tubi. I’ve seen in on stage also, and I prefer some of the songs in that version to the ones used in the movie, but I love watching the dancing.
There was an email from MDOT - Merrylande Dept of Transportation - telling me it’s time to renew the tag on our truck. Even tho it doesn’t expire till the end of Oct… So I waded thru the new-and-“improved” website to take care of it, lest I forget if I ignore it. And within mere minutes of getting an emailed receipt, I got a duplicate email telling me it’s time to renew… Same thing happened last month for the Santa Fe and I expect the same in a few months for my car, unless someone in the Dept realized there’s a glitch and gets it fixed (look! I made a funny joke!!)
I truly don’t mind paying my share as I know the fees are used for transportation-related stuff, but all of a sudden, the fees are double what they used to be. Instead of getting a 2-year sticker, it’s only good for one. Multiply that by 3 vehicles plus a little-used trailer and it gets $$$ in short order. Oh well, it’s just money, right?
So let the day begin! Happy Saturday! (Yoiks - my baby brother turns 70 today!!!)
Morning all. Just a short check-in note today, will be heading out for the first day of Youth Soccer for the Fall (in 85F heat). Refereeing 2 games this morning and one at 5pm so hopefully will miss the hottest parts of the day. That should take care of my exercise so the remaining time will be spent recuperating.
Will write more when I have the time so all y’all take care.
It’s Saturday. I have no big plans for the weekend, but in the nation’s capital they’re having an Indycar race through the streets of the city. Our president will be there to “take a lap around the track” and wave the green flag. He loves that sort of thing.
NPR news did a story about humanoid robots, including “comedy robots, that can read the room.” My mind immediately went to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. Was Triumph a bot?
BBBoo, yike, I hope your left leg is better soon.
The pest control guy is here, and Mrs. Nott has gone out to chat with/bother him.
The shortest Bible verse is “Jesus wept.” In the Housekeeping Bible, it’s “Jesus swept.”
