Speaking of braunsweiger (oddly enough, this doesn’t come up in spell check), I saw a recipe for liver sausage snowball. A giant ball of liver sausage frosted with cream cheese and dotted with pimento. This was in,what else, a church cookbook. Of course I thought of our own metalmouse
Nah, he’d be a pimento cheese ball man all the way.
Oh no, you lost me at the bra part, matching shoes is just too much!
Ya wanna know one of the good things about wearing boots? You don’t have to decide what color socks to wear in the morning.
Covered coffee mugs are a thing. Just sayin’
Steve used to wake me up every morning by laying next to my face and tickling me with his whiskers. As soon as I opened my eyes, he started purring. He wasn’t wanting breakfast, Hubs had already fed him. He just wanted to be with me and wow, I still miss that cat so much.
When I worked for the county elections department, I always compared getting ready for a Presidential election to planning a formal wedding with 200 guests. After a while, the task seems to take on a life of it’s own and starts eating time until suddenly it is happening.
Thank you so much for being there for us. I will be voting sometime tomorrow. I used to bring unopened Entenmann’s treats to the poll workers in AZ when I was voting in person. They always thanked me and accepted the bag, but they knew me or knew of me.
As a poll worker, would you take an unopened package of food from a stranger? After she voted?
Welcome back! I recently moved from always summer to a place with seasons and the changing colors is just amazing. The forest changes daily and I spend way too much time just looking at it.
You brought up a cat? Did the Mump not demand a cat tax four years ago? We do now!
I’ll pay mine first. This is Gormless George and Jolene the day after they met.
GG doesn’t have two brain cells to rub together so we got him a thinking brain cat. Jolene strutted into our home and stole my husband and cat with a swoosh of her tail and a wink of her green eyes.
She’s much bigger now, she’s gained three pounds since August.
Look for phone cases that don’t let the ports get filled with dust and lint!
That’s great, I’m glad they are selling well. I hope you love your new ortho doctor and that he/she figures out how to get what you need for your knee.
Women tend to like getting treats as well…
Harry thinks he could probably put together a few SFS nesting boxes, but he doesn’t think there is a spot in our yard for one. That’s probably for the best, I’d be out on a ladder looking into the box far too often for any self respecting SFS to move in.
That sucks. I’m glad you were well out of it.
So, as I mentioned up stream, today was great. We left at 9 this morning and went to Tudor’s fer biskits and gravy and then headed north to look at the forest. The forest here is turning but the colors aren’t nearly as vibrant as they were up towards Charleston.
We followed the Kanawa River to the New River Falls (not much in the way of falls, but Hubs says white rafters come from all over the world in the spring when the melt is happening) and Hubs took a wrong turn that sent us down maintained dirt roads covered with a bright red and orange and yellow canopy.
It was breathtaking. It was beautiful. I was so glad he was driving because he never cares about the plants so didn’t run off the road due to beauty overload. We only saw one car until we got to the river so he could drive slow to allow me to enjoy the colors.
The road ended at the river and he went to use the restroom and took the keys with him because I was going to just walk around a bit. The nats were horrible!!! I even fired up my pipe hoping the smoke would make them go away. Nope. I couldn’t get in the car and roll the windows up due to the no keys thing and hubs was half a block away. At the “closed for maintenance” restroom.
We went back out the other way and ended up at a place called Pie and Pints. We were hoping it was a micro brewery, but it was just a very well stocked beer and cider bar. Hubs had an IPA and I had an elderberry infused hard cider made from WV apples.
They made the best white pizza I’ve ever had. We both thought that we had finally found a pizza with enough garlic (whole roasted cloves along with the fresh mozzarella, parm and alfredo sauce.)
We stopped on the side of the road so I could pluck some colored leaves off the trees. They are now safely ensconced between the pages of my Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. I’ll send them off to people west next week or so.
We did hit a toll road on the way home and Hubs asked how much the toll would have been if we had a WV EZpass. Nothing. Once you buy the transponder for 13 bucks all you have to do is charge it once a year (29.95) and have unlimited use for the year. The transponder is yours forever or until it dies.
That changed everything, we should have our transponder next week.
When we got home, Jolene was in the scratcher by the window in my room and GG was on the tree by my desk. Jolene saw us walk up to the door and her mouth opened like she was squeeking (she’s got a little dinky meow) and GG woke up out of a dead sleep and beat her out the door to get to the front door first. People who think cats don’t show affection have never lived with cats.
A whole lot of words don’t come up in the speel check here which kinda sucks for those of us who were raised on fonics.
Happy Hump Day!
It’s a warm 79 degrees out, but I am inside irking. Irk has been quite irksome. although I think it’s more me and my attitude.
It was a busy day and I’m tired.
I read a lot and retained little
I will slice a French baguette on a bias to get nice sized slices. I will toast them lightly and add hot pulled pork and cover it with country gravy. The sausage, herbs and onions in the gravy complement the pulled pork really well. Add some Parmesan garlic mashed potatoes and you have a meal.
It was a long day. I had a good time watching the smoker for the pulled pork. My brother Dave flew in from Tuscon and I picked him up at the airport. We went shopping for the portion of the groceries that we are responsible for. I took him to his daughter’s place, where he stores his trout fishing stuff, to spend the night, stopping at two wine stores on the way. Dave is a wine snob. I am sure I have posted about him before. He is fresh back from France Where he toured Normandy and then spent the rest of the two weeks visiting wineries. He needed to connect with other wine snobs I guess.
After dropping him off I took the groceries back home. I pulled the pork and we had sandwiches for dinner. I sorted the groceries and boxed them up. I put the perishables in the cooler with some ice blocks and loaded my fishing gear. I got my road bag and laptop bag ready for the trip and then got a wonderful shower.
I have a nice glass of scotch here and after I relax for a bit I will go to bed. We hit the road at 0530 tomorrow, bound for Eureka Springs AK!
Here, fishy fishy…
Howdy Y’all! Had a good time over to the church house this evenin’. Sketties, caesar sallit, rolls, and macadamia nut cookies. Yum! We early voted as well this afternoon. There was a “pop up “ early vote at our local precinct from two til seven p.m. We went at two-thirty and got in and out in fifteen minutes. I was the fifty fourth person to vote which I didn’t think was too bad given the folk showin’ up to vote that time of day would be mostly RDOS.
Sounds delightful!
I napped with Spot. I woke up, had a martini, and chicken with cavatappi with bacon Parmesan spinach.
Spot is the opposite. He wakes up, paws me in the face and is like “I have arisen, servant. Minister to me.”
Welcome back!
Try freezing them(the grapes, not the Grands).
We had 2 cars of people, and buckets of sunfish(I once caught the same crappie 3 times on 3 casts, so they weren’t being bred for intelligence)., and the other car started throw them at us on the drive home, and we responded. Note: An average sunfish will it between the dash and aftermarket tach on a '78 Subaru wagon.
And a good late evening to all. Just finishing off a large batch of Utz Cheese Balls (but still staying in my calorie limits) and beginning to think about bed-time.
Just looked and at 8:25pm it was 62F, heading to 55F.
Congrats to all the early voters, Ali-bama doesn’t offer it, so I’ll have to wait until election day.
Cookie, sounds like the guy was on a rampage, just glad he wasn’t too close to your place.
red, hope it remains limited pain from the tooth removal.
wet one, for me it is a sammich spread and always has been, often with soup. And hate to disappoint you, BBBoo, but not a pimento fan.
JtC, been awhile since I just took off and meandered around the hills and dales. May have to see about getting south and east of here where there is still open ground and no interstate highways.
{{{Sari}}}, just because.
Hippie, safe and happy travels and may the fish learn to fear your rod-and-reel skills.
doggio, I’m guessing there wasn’t a cop in sight; how he would have written it up defies my poor imagination…
And it’s closing in on 10pm and I have a few things to do. The kitchen light which is a tube lighting fixture has burned out so tomorrow I’ll have to bring the ladder in and see if I can figure out how to get the cover off without breaking it and then bet some new tubes. Ah well, at least I have something to do with the day.
Take care all.
Argh!
I timed my laundry so well, so that I could move it to the dryer right before work & it’d be ready when I got home.
I checked it around the time it shoulda been done, the spin cycle was still, well, spinnin’ but a while later - while I was distracted with pre-work preparations - I heard the chime but was busy with something else, and … well, you can guess where this is going.
Everything is tumbling now, and was only sitting around wet for 10 hours. Didn’t smell mildewy when I moved it to the dryer … do any of you smart Mumpers know if that was long enough to make stuff smell musty? It was all still soaking wet …
So the big story of the night … and I do mean BIG … was an order we got from a local high school, a few minutes after my sorry carcass dragged itself outta there last night.
They would like not twenty … not thirty … oh, no, not forty … forty five large pizzas, for this Friday.
At least they’re all pepperoni. Straightforward.
The challenge with larger orders is keeping track when they want one of these, and two of these …
Total is over $1k. S.M. was like, “They definitely need to sign the credit card slip!” (We generally need them to sign if it’s over a hundred bucks.)
What else? Oh, we got a laff outta the guy who called, “One large, just cheese.” “Okay, anything else?” “Yes, can you add chicken and garlic to it?” “Sure!” (Oookaaaay, so NOT just a cheese.)
We were dead slow towards the end of the night - I think we went about an hour with no orders! - and then, last car of the night, there is ONE order in the house.
Guy pulls up, says his name is Tyler. My heart sinks. I vaguely recognize him, so he should know which location is which, but the one damn order we have isn’t a Tyler.
“Did you … maybe give a last name?”
SUCCESS! I laughed & told him I was so relieved. “We only have the one single order in the whole kitchen, I was wondering how that couldn’t be you!”
He got a hearty chuckle himself, warmly wished me a good night, and drove off as I locked the window. (Flight attendants, please prepare to … close this bitch up for the night!)
Monkey’s kibble bowl has been refilled & the ratties got pizza crackers, a handful of lettuce AND a cupful of birdseed mix, so they should all be happy.
Time to figure something out for myself. Since I open → close tomorrow, and then Long Night the day after that, I need to do all that healthy self-care shit.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Careful you don’t do too much, or your RDOS card will be revoked.
It’s been quite lovely over here as well. I have encouraged my mom to come with me this morning specifically for that reason. I hope her head will allow it and we’ll be able to go sight-treeing.
Have fun!!
Holy cow!
I am currently sitting here with my little girl on my lap. Today she’ll get the full dose of meds so that hopefully she can just sleep peacefully while we are gone.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 56 Amurrkin out any clear with a predicted high of 85 and N.O.S. I shall see what I can do about laptop today and we shall go to the hog trough GC to take care of today’s main need to feed. Outside of that ‘twill be the usual RDOS inactivities.
Hippie have fun on your fishin’ trip.
shoe forty-five pizzas could be just the appetizer for a bunch of teens.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe and despair.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Yep, I jinxed myself. After commenting about my long sleeps, the last 2 or 3 nights have been shorter and I’ve not slept past 5AM. Dammit.
But I’ve worked out dinner for the grands - chickie nuggets, rice, gravy, broccoli, grapes. I just need to thaw the chickie for the nuggets - I’ll put it in the fridge today. So that’s out of the way. And the queen mattress is in the basement leaning against the wall. I need to lay it on the floor and get sheets, etc, so the kids can sleep there. I may have to sleep down there with them - on the recliner, tho. We shall see.
shoe - how do you handle a mega-order like that along with the regular business? What’s the logistics of keeping the first one warm while the last one is in the oven? Are they required to pay in advance? And how do you verify it’s a legit order and not a stoopit prank? (Gee, Roseanne Rosannadanna, you sure do ask a lot of nosy questions!)
We’re starting the day around 59° and we might get to the mid 60s or so. Long range forecast is for almost 80° for Halloween! Then, who knows? Lots of ups and downs in the forecast.
As for today, FCD is going to work on the boat. He keeps offering to stay here with his mom so I can do something, but I really don’t have anything to do. If not for her, I’d probably be with him on the boat, or maybe working in the yard. Instead, I crochet as I tend MIL. Despite what she insists, we can’t leave her alone for much time at all - especially these days, seeing how shaky she is. I don’t hover over her like the other daughter-in-law, but I always have an open ear and I’m ready to dash to her aid if necessary, which means I don’t put up the foot of the recliner… just in case. The motor is too slow when I need to dash.
Anyway, I’ll pass my day working on the current blalnket and figuring out how I’ll use the 11# of yarn that was delivered yesterday. I have 3 patterns picked out, but I haven’t selected colors yet. One uses 4, one has at least 3 (I can’t remember) and one can be whatever since it’s my own design. Oddly enough, I didn’t buy any white. Or black. What was I thinking??
We got a coupon in the mail for a free appetizer at Texas Roadhouse - FCD’s b-day is Nov 3 and since he’s on their loyalty list (or something) they send this every year. I’ll need to work something out - do we take MIL or get someone to stay with her?? Hmmm…
When I fell for a fake email last week, someone named Peter managed to sneak into my broadband account before I changed all my passwords. The service is the same, so he wasn’t able to do anything, I think, but I’ll contact Breezeline to be sure. It was a major brainfart on my part, but at least I caught it before he changed the passwords and locked me out. The next day, someone tried it again, but I was on to them! Damned scammers!
Anyway, I’m up and fed. FCD just left - he’s going to his brother’s apartment to get him some clothes and to check on the fish (I bet the bettas are dead) then to the hospital, then to the boat. I probably won’t see him till supper - whatever that will be. Sketties, maybe? I’ll figure it out.
For now, Happy Thursday!!
Good morning.
It’s 44F and cloudy outside. The cloudy skies will continue throughout the morning, becoming partly cloudy by afternoon, and our high temperature is expected to be 56F. It’s kind of ho-hum weather, but it appears rain will move in soon. That’s not surprising. November is usually a rainy month and is known around these parts for a good storm or two. November is right around the corner.
Hippie, I hope you enjoy your fishing trip.
Shoe, gads, that’s a lot of pizza. In my senior year of high school, I was a waitress at Pizza Hut, which was still an actual restaurant with a salad bar and everything. I remember large orders like that coming in and multiple softball teams coming in after games. It was crazy.
I couldn’t get them to move the meeting day, so I convinced them to move the meeting today to 9:00 a.m. The planner offered a separate meeting with me, but the agencies involved all need to meet together so we’re on the same page right from the beginning and don’t have to email back and forth after the fact, which necessitates MORE meetings. I know we’ll have several more of these meetings, and I asked that they give more than one workday notice for future meetings and offer more dates as options. We ALL have multiple priorities and meetings; many of us are trying to burn all our use or lose time.
Later this morning, I plan to get out and finally get that grass cut. We’ll see rain starting Saturday, and I want to finish it. I wish a really good hard frost would move in so I don’t have to mow anymore, but that hasn’t happened yet.
I’m considering the Chanterelle hunt again, but the best day would be Friday, and no one is off on Friday. I can’t take the hubster because someone would need to be here with the pups. I can’t leave them in their kennels all day; that’s cruel. Hmmm, must mull further.
Well, I guess there’s not much to report. My life is mundane, after all.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 15c/59f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Just fucking balls. I’ve got fucking nothing.” Well, that’s us told then.
Welcome back! It’s probably much the same, but different
Very sad end to his story then, and an awful tragedy for the innocent folks he dragged into it.
Glad to hear it was a simple extraction - I had one that was hanging by a thread and had very short roots. Took longer to numb the site than it took to remove the tooth!
That sounds like an excellent day out! I’m glad you got to enjoy so much of nature’s colourful display, really makes your heart feel full, doesn’t it?
Have a fabulous trip!
Things are not quite going as planned over here. Yesterday I was all ready to go out with friends in the evening when I got a text cancelling plans because one of them wasn’t well enough (he’s got a health issue that is unpredictable) which then meant I got an unplanned evening at home with 'im indoors. Not the end of the world, but not what I was intending for my night.
This morning the Travel Gods were feeling feisty so the bus was either early or late (it arrived midway between two scheduled times) and the trains were all delayed. I was late getting to the office but that also is not a disaster. Tonight’s plan is to go home, sort the cats out, get ourselves fed and changed, then go out to see a band. Since it’s local and it’s a school night, I will drive (thus ensuring no beerverages, and we’re home fairly soon after the end of the gig). I’ve got leftover chilli in the fridge for dinner so that won’t take long to do, and I should be in bed before midnight.
So far today, I have had a meeting with Facilities about fire wardens and have a half-hour session to attend this afternoon on the same subject. Then I had to help my new minion with some language tests that we need to organise. Originally it was only one student who needed a separate room, now it’s become about half a dozen with a variety of different requirements to accommodate. Another headache I could do without…oh well, at least the overseas student who shouldn’t be here didn’t turn up in the end!
Showered and dressed and about to assume the crochet position. MIL just got up, so quiet time is over. FCD fed BIL’s fish and took some clothes over to the hospital for him. And he discovered that BIL hasn’t been getting his meds refilled - gee, could that be affecting his behavior??
OK, gotta go get her meds and her breakfast. Thus beginneth my day.
Military-level coordination, planning, and communication.
We know what time they’re planning to show up.
Can’t set up the pizzas too far in advance (our dough is good for 3 hours after being rolled out before the yeast starts to be unhappy = “dead” dough) and the lady who makes our dough already knows we’ll need an extra kettle of the stuff for that day. (The kettles are enormous cauldrons - I can’t get my arms 3/4 of the way around the rim.)
So there’s gonna be a flurry of assembly-line work all at once.
In fact, the Grumpy Oven Master, who’s been out for a coupla weeks after surgery, got wind of it and was like, “Oh, I’m coming in for this!”
It’ll be good to have him on deck; he’s the one with buttloads of restaurant experience and, if you get past the grouchy veneer, he’s got excellent communication, is good at keeping a motley crew working cohesively, and is actually a really nice guy.
While their pizzas are cooking, S.M. already decided that instead of keeping an oven open for other customers, they’re just gonna use up all the ovens at once, shut off online ordering, and anyone who calls will be politely told there’s currently a 45 minute wait time and would they still like to order?
I’m about 99.82% certain they’re paid up in advance, in which case .. that’d be one helluvan expensive prank! And even if it were, we already got their moolah.
Oh, and as far as keeping things warm, we have three electric warmers plus an insulated box. Even those all together won’t hold the whole order, but we’re hoping they show up & start shuttling boxes out while we’re finishing baking the last stragglers.
… and no worries about the questions! First big-ish order we got when I 1st started, I had tons of similar questions, too. (Question 1: how in the fuck do you plan to pull this off? But you said it nicer.)
In the wild, they live in shallow, oxygen-poor swamps. Surprisingly hardy little buggers.
Jeez, it got down into the 30s last night. I was cozy as hell under my enormous pile of (mostly clean!) blankets/quilts/comforters, but arising for the usual reasons encouraged me to click the heat on.
Okay, I need more sleep (really don’t wanna work open → close on 4hrs of Zzzzzz) but I’m also up for bio-break and also, really want a few things from the grocery sto’. So, I have to either go now & hope to hell I can nap after all that excitement, or hope to hell I can fall back asleep RIGHTNOW (cuz we all know how well that usually works!) and then also budget the time correctly before going into work.
Neither is a particularly attractive option.
I guess I’ll probably go now. I’m still really tired but not quite sleepy, and I hate being rushed. There’s only a coupla things I truly NEED (one of which is cat litter, which is unfortunately at the opposite corner of the big-ass, well, big box store from literally everything else on my list) but several more items have been ignored for some time & are increasing in urgency.
{ grumbles, puts on pants at stoopit o’clock just after 9 a.m. like some medieval peasant forced to slave in the fields before dawn }
Morning all. Slept until nearly 8, when the work crews got started; they are building an access road through the forest near my cul-de-sac and there are engines, thumps and vibrations on and off during the day. Figured out how to take the cover off of the tube light in the kitchen, looks like 3 of the 4 tubes are burned out so I’ll just replace them all, once I figure out how to get them out and sown without busting them (or me) around the kitchen. Then will break fast with pancakes and bacon before heading to Home Depot for their replacements. That should take care of the morning, afternoon may be some gym time and then soccer practice, so a fairly active day. Mowage will be moved back to Firday, which is no big thing, they don’t pick up the clippings until Monday. 64F heading to 84F and clear skies for another day.
shoe, hope nappage occurs and looking forward to the 45-pizza report. And hopefully the laundry will be Ok.
doggio, looks like Sunday will be my designated RDOS for this week.
FCM, happy blanket-knitting day. And glad you got out without damage to your accounts.I change the password to my computer every 6 months or so, but probably wouldn’t hurt to change my more valuable passwords now and then (but there are sooooo many…).
Taters, hope the meeting was short and to the point.
boo fae, I admire the amount and type of travel you have to do to get to work. Enjoy the band.
Alright, need to get those lights out so i can have breakfast. Take care all.
