(Old) Sleepover in the MMP

Today I have a new book to read (birder she wrote). I also scheduled the building to fix 2 screens. I don’t open windows due to allergies and cats. The windows here don’t open easily anyway, but the masonry work that happened a bit ago ripped up 2 screens rather badly.

The one in the bedroom is very ripped. That window has a Roman shade on it. As those are also annoying I leave it alone. I keep about 2-3 inches of it up so the cats can look out.

Today I fully opened the shade and there is a wee little wasp nest between the screen and window. Le sigh. Luckily, Tuesday is the exterminator day at the building.

Happy doperversary, fcm.

Glad to hear polar is feeling better.

Late Morning all. Sorry I’m late but got up early with a cramp in my leg that hurt enough to bring me fully awake, then went on my braunsweiger run, which was only modestly successful (one place only had tubes good through August 7th, the other had them with expiry dates in October, but only two on the shelves, so got enough for a couple weeks at least). Also picked up some MegaMillions tickets while I was that close to Tennessee. Now contemplating gym workout in a bit.

FCM, Yikes, just tell people you were escaping from Jack the Ripper…hope it heals quickly. And a Happy Dopeversary to you!

Taters, glad Polar is doing better.

Bob-B, vroom, thanks for the information, what I know about car engines can be put on a very small sheet of paper.

Pilot, FCM, I’m probably past due for my next prostrate checkup, hopefully I can do the Cologuard thing again.

Glad to see you back home, boo fae. Bet the cats were glad to see you (at least in cat ways, which may mean they ignored you altogether…)

Sari, son may just be rebelling against change, if he’s sensible as he sounds, he’ll come around to it soon. Son is going to have to learn, as other Mumpers note, that change is an integral part of living. as for the prescriptiom Yoiks!! Hope there is an alternative. as for the shot, I remember a webcartoon that featured the “OuchdammitOMeter”…sounds like you were high on that scale.

OK, need to get organized for the afternoon. Take care all.

Yes. For the one and only reason anyone from NV would stop there. Given the difference in state fuel taxes, one would be stupid to buy gas on the CA side no matter which way one was traveling.

So lotto it is.

I’m afraid to ask or to Google; I’ll take your smiley as all the details I need.

You totally win the thread, dear. And it’s only Tuesday! Go BBBoo!!11!1!

The juxtaposition of Bondo, lunch, prostate, and Cologuard is truly epic. Well done.

Hint: if you put your Cologuard sample in the prostate tester or vice versa, some lab tech is going to be very, very confused.

As to me:
Enjoying a belated outdoor waterfront lunch solo. A pile of Jerk dry-rub wangs and a fine Pinot. It had been thunderbooming for awhile and now it’s a bit gray, slightly drippy, and 89 wonderful F = 32 excellent C. The gray takes the bloom off the colors, but it also takes the edge off the temp. Shorts & a polo outside with the Reggae blasting is nice.

I had been irking on-call until a bit ago when they called to stick me with irk tomorrow. Which has the side effect of turning me loose today, so the Pinot is in celebration of the early end to a shift.

Happy Doperversary, FCM! :tada:

There’s prostate cancer in my family at the moment: one of my uncles was diagnosed with it ~10 years ago. He’d been doing mostly alright until earlier this year, when it suddenly metastasized to his bladder. He’s had chemo, and he and my aunt are waiting to find out if it helped. These days I’m low-key worried about him all the time. (Also, he’s 86.)

On a happier note, we’ve finally gotten a break from the heat/humidity: it was only 61°F when I woke up, and I’ve had my windows open all day. Aaaah. Now it’s ~3:40pm and the temp has climbed up to 78, but there’s enough of a breeze that I still prefer the windows to the AC. I’ll switch over before I head to the gym, though (in about an hour), both to secure the house and ensure that it’s nice and cool when I get home.

Yesterday’s mail brought a speeding ticket: seems that I drove a little too fast through an I-95 construction zone in MD while going to NJ at the end of June! The citation says I was doing 74 mph in a 55 mph zone: at first that surprised me, because I don’t usually go above 70 when the limit is 55 (especially through work zones), but IIRC traffic was really light and it’s quite likely that I simply didn’t adjust after the speed limit dropped from 65. The fine is only $40, but I’m kind of annoyed with myself: I do like to drive fast, but I’m generally smart/careful about it (I have track experience and everything). At least there aren’t any points, so my nearly-perfect driving record will stay nearly-perfect.

Oooo, I like that…

(the turn of phrase, not the administrivia!)

*whew*

To be clear I meant that I spent some of my total ambition killing administrivia. Not that administrivia was per se ambition-killing. I’ve been gettin’ stuff done ever since, now 11 hours later. And my ambition is still holding up fine.

As a legal blogger I like often says: hypens matter. Use 'em right or silliness ensues.

If I was an English teacher, and trying to prove to, say, high school students, that Shakespeare is still relevant today, my favorite part is also from Henry V, the duke of Burgundy’s speech to the French and English king.

Duke of Burgundy. My duty to you both, on equal love,
Great Kings of France and England! That I have labour’d,
With all my wits, my pains and strong endeavours,
To bring your most imperial majesties
Unto this bar and royal interview,
Your mightiness on both parts best can witness.
Since then my office hath so far prevail’d
That, face to face and royal eye to eye,
You have congreeted, let it not disgrace me,
If I demand, before this royal view,
What rub or what impediment there is,
Why that the naked, poor and mangled Peace,
Dear nurse of arts and joyful births,
Should not in this best garden of the world
Our fertile France, put up her lovely visage?
Alas, she hath from France too long been chased,
And all her husbandry doth lie on heaps,
Corrupting in its own fertility.
Her vine, the merry cheerer of the heart,
Unpruned dies; her hedges even-pleach’d,
Like prisoners wildly overgrown with hair,
Put forth disorder’d twigs; her fallow leas
The darnel, hemlock and rank fumitory
Doth root upon, while that the coulter rusts
That should deracinate such savagery;
The even mead, that erst brought sweetly forth
The freckled cowslip, burnet and green clover,
Wanting the scythe, all uncorrected, rank,
Conceives by idleness and nothing teems
But hateful docks, rough thistles, kecksies, burs,
Losing both beauty and utility.
And as our vineyards, fallows, meads and hedges,
Defective in their natures, grow to wildness,
Even so our houses and ourselves and children
Have lost, or do not learn for want of time,
The sciences that should become our country;
But grow like savages,—as soldiers will
That nothing do but meditate on blood,—
To swearing and stern looks, diffused attire
And every thing that seems unnatural.
Which to reduce into our former favour
You are assembled: and my speech entreats
That I may know the let, why gentle Peace
Should not expel these inconveniences
And bless us with her former qualities.

I don’t have a lot of time to read at the moment, so I don’t know if there’s anything important that I’ve missed. Got to NY for my trip, had a good time though some things didn’t go as planned because of a family emergency on his end. Part of what ended up not going as planned was me at the airport to come home 8 hours early. He felt horrible, and he wants me to come back up in a few months, so that’s to the good.

Now I’m just in the process of trying to keep healing my hands (I really don’t like the braces, but needs must) and getting the kids ready for school. I’m not sure which will drive me crazier.

Hope everyone is well and if someone isn’t, I send all the fishy hugs I have to offer in their direction.

Can I just come in to rant about recorded sales calls? I get a lot of what I presume are scam calls, people with Indian accents, named “Allen” or “Carol” But lately I’ve been getting recorded calls, voices with American accents, also calling for “Medicare benefiits.” One had been a female voice, and one a male. I think they are trying to make folks feel guilty, because when I replied profanely to these(feeling no obligation to be polite) I got recorded responses scolding me.

And I’ve been getting a lot of calls too, four or five a day. Ticks me off that I have to put down whatever I’m doing to answer these.

:grimacing:

Rants are over here in aisle 4:

Thanks. And over there I can probably print what I actually said to the callers.

Hey all. I went to IKEA with my mom and sister today. We didn’t end up getting anything, but it was still fun to walk through everything. Also, we went to lunch and Target after, but then we went home since people were being extra stupid today. Must be the full moon.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and sloth got slothed. Quality cee-mint pond time was had along with nappage and day drinkin’. Sup got fixed and et. Thus it was in swampland on August oneth.

Taters glad Polar is doin’ better today.

MOOOOOOM happy doperversary. Also, ick on the owie. Hope it’s better soonest.

GodBod IME people are always bein’ extra stooopid. Glad you had a good time with your mom and sis today.

sari, you may want to check with your pharmacy benefit manager where you get your prescriptions. My benefits manager cut a drug from the MSRP of $1300 a month by talking to my insurance company and hooking me up with a manufacturer’s subsidy to that I’m paying $10 a month for life-saving blood thinners.

You’re doing the right thing JtC.

Happy doperversary Moooooooom! I hope that your owie feels better soonest.

I’m glad Polar’s feeling better taters.

I’m curious baker, why do you answer the phone for numbers not on your contact list? If it’s not a scam and something important, they’ll leave a voicemail.

I irked, came home, walked the dog and et. I inadvertently left Nelson’s boo, Rocky Raccoon in the bedroom when I closed the door. He began crying while I was finishing supper and I knew exactly what he wanted. I opened the bedroom door and he went straight to it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So, my sister wrecked her car while acting as a hotel airport shuttle. Her job won’t pay for it and she can’t claim it on her insurance because it was work related, so her car is sitting in the driveway waiting for her to save up the money to have it fixed (or to finally beg mom into paying for it), and she is driving Mom’s car. Or she was until she rear-ended someone today and now Mom’s car is not drivable either.

Sister got mad that I drove Mom to the site of the accident because that meant Mom was deliberately trying to embarrass her, so Mom and I left. Sister then called Mom demanding that I take her to rent a car so sister could get home and then to work, but too bad, I had already left so sister is going to have to figure that out for herself.

I just opened a beer and took a few swallows. It is really early in the day for me, but now that I have drank beer, I can’t go back out in my car no matter how much I want to. Our afternoon plans got cancelled by my sister’s accident and I have left overs to eat before leaving tomorrow, so I didn’t really cut my nose off to spite my face…

This morning Mom and I went to the Basque Center and I pushed her around the museum. she was more interested than I was, but that was OK. We had a nice lunch and then came back to my room because Mom paid for hearing aids without realizing that her Medicare supplement plan should help cover them and I can’t make calls like that without a desk or table or something.

I got out my notebook and pen (for notes) and got on laptop and phone and got that straightened out for her. I was pretty surprised that it took less than an hour, usually medicare/social security calls take forevvvvver. She’s still going to be responsible for about 2 grand, but that is much better than the 4 and a half she thought she was going to be paying.

Well, I hate to admit it, but once I’ve got up and walked over to the phone, to see it’s not on my list, I kind of like being ugly to them.

Oh NO! How could you??!?! That poor abused dawg!!!

 :joy: :upside_down_face:

Happy Doperversary FCM!

I remember you mentioning that before and it cracked me up then and did again now.

However, phone scammers tried to take Mom for thousands of dollars and she was falling for it until I happened to call her and she told me what was going on. Thankfully it was early enough in the scam that I was able to stop it and save her money, but I’m still really pissed off.

Tell them off as much as you want, and then do it again for me!

Yup. Ya gots to remember that 49% of the population is below average intelligence.

DO IT! DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!! If you don’t take care of yourself now, you will be really sorry when you are my age.

Yep, feed me the good stuff and I’ll agree to anything! Heck, that’s how wild animal workers “train” their critters. “Here, eat this instead of me! Here, have some more!”

You are better with feral cats than me, I can tell by looking at Spot pics. IMO, the easiest way to deal with feral cats is to feed them into submission, but you must cuddle them into semi-tame because my ferals usually show my love around their waists.

One of today’s episodes was about construction materials, dealing with a dragon burning down their buildings when they were paper and wood. Except the cartoon is set in a magical underwater world, so how does the whole fire-breathing dragon thing work?? Made my head hurt. That aside, it did have some educational value.

Not sure if this suggestion would help you, but this is how I deal with crap calls. I have 3 different ring tones assigned on my phone. One is for family and friends, one is for businesses/doctors that I deal with regularly, one is everything else. Unless I’m expecting a call that doesn’t fall into the first to categories, I don’t bother answering that ring. I figure if it’s important, I’ll get a voice mail. I never do. It saves me running for the phone when I’m in the middle of something.

We took Daughter and the grandspawn out to supper at Cracker Barrel. Yep, they have Christmas decorations on sale already. smh Now that we’re home, I need to fold laundry, then chillage shall ensue.

Nelson is a very willing learner for Blue Bits.

What meme is that?

Street theatre!

I do that all the time. And between the much-too-early morning sun and the cat standing on my chest wondering where her breakfast is, I rarely manage to sleep until 0630.

Something came up and my cardiologist had to cancel today’s appointment. It’s been rescheduled for some time in October…

{{{{Jane}}}}

Only had one sleepover, at a friend’s flat. He let me have the top bunk, which was unfortunate for him as I wet the bed and it saoked through the mattress… :cloud_with_rain::open_mouth: :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Lady SCAdian and I finally got around to taking bottles and cans to the redemption centre. Got thirty dollars for them, which at 5¢ each means we turned in 600. :open_mouth:!

Wandering Ikea with no intent to buy is strangely satisfying. Just don’t set yourself the task of reading & pronouncing each fake Swedish word or you’ll bjorn dar allësen de täger.

Lunch is fun; where and what? Enquiring minds want to know. The general public is always stupider after lunch. It revitalizes them. Besides, they had beer.

Jane good on ya for washing your hands of this mess. If Sis can wreck 2 cars in two days, perhaps she needs to switch to being an Uber passenger, not a part-time professional driver.

Does not compute. Does not compute. Does not …

Congrats on Mom’s aids. So many Medicare plans don’t help at all and the darn things are silly expensive as you’ve told us.

I think I live under a rock compared to most people, but Geez, how could one have missed this?

Both Oppenheimer and Barbie were released the same weekend to great fanfare. The two movies are utterly different.

The movie industry aided and abetted by both conventional media talking heads and social media influencers has encouraged the idea of “Barbenhiemer”: going to see both movies back to back as a “must do” cultural experience. Collect the whole set!!!1! Two great tastes that taste great together! etc.

Sounds utterly stupid to me, but millions of lemmings are following their orders to go see both movies back to back. So now theaters are arranging to schedule them as double-features and ticket them as such as well.

I’m over here weeping in the corner for the final proof of total loss of all independent thought among our populace.

That’s what they’re talking about. Sigh.

As to me:
I finally got home from late lunch, and after a bit of administration Her Ladyship and I walked over for taco Tuesday w margaritas. Umbrellas were carried but not needed. Now back home. Her day with her daughter was fun, a vast mall was duly explored tip to tail, some cute workout clothes were obtained (Rowwwwr!!!), and lots of girl-yak was had. The only thing better than girls in spandex is girls just removed from spandex.

Bed is soon, for tomorrow is not an early get-up for irk, but the day promises to be a fair bit of irk, a long run in the park, and an epic meal. The eating of which is hard work in itself.

Sleep well all.
