(Old) Sleepover in the MMP

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Spot is exhausted from his evening zoomies, he didn’t get up to greet me when I got up from my nap.

Well, somebody has to drive down the level of discourse around here.

Well, they have an outdoor view park at RDU. And jealous you got to see the Constellation(Although my favorite is the DC-6)

also, in the ARE YOU READY FOR SOME HANDEGG category, Cleveland beat the Jets last night, 21-16. Which it being the Jets, the Browns, and the Hall of Fame Game, means nothing, as 90% of the players in the game will have their NFL career summarized as “3 and Out on 08/03/2023”

there’s one or two other shows that sets that one up… but don’t think you’ll wanna watch two mid-00 WB teen-based drama queen shows … when the WB started this century they raided most of Scholsastic’s HS book series for material…

Hey, y’all. I’ve been overwhelmed by life, my own anxiety, plus some other stuff, AND I have the self-care skills of a coconut, so I’ve lurked and skimmed but mostly retreated into a hermit shell lately.

I blame the humidity. We got a brief but absolute frog strangler yesterday.

I did wanna point out that this

is a beautiful bit of poetry.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 92 with rain predicted mid to late afternoon. We shall see. This bein’ Firday, I shall take care of candle duty and a couple of other things over to the church house. Then we shall go to the hog trough Golden Corral for today’s main feed. The need for fried chikin is strong today. Other than that it shall be the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, day drinkin’ and other such nonproductive stuff.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

I just can’t get into vampires or zombies or demons or whatever other fictional critters inhabit so many shows these days. Some years back, I remember selecting a series that sounded promising from the description, but it didn’t mention werewolves. Once it got all bloody and “supernatural”, that was that. I can only suspend so much disbelief…

Third night in a row in the 60s and it’s not supposed to get out of the 70s today!! It rained on and off all night, and it continues. The weather is bat-crap crazy, I tells ya! Once FCD wakes, we’re heading back to the school to finish the PA system and (I hope) the network connections to the classrooms. Not sure what else is on today’s agenda.

My owie is now itchy, but it’s still super-tender to the touch, so scratching ain’t happening. The best I can do for relief is gently press my fingers against it. I hope once I’m busy I won’t notice it as much.

Our emergency lights were delivered yesterday, and they work! There was a momentary power blip this morning (long enough to screw up 2 digital clocks) and while the fan stopped, the nightlight in the hall stayed lit! I also got a lantern/flashlight that will light up a room should we lose power. We’re taking it today since the flashlight FCD took with him to school apparently went home with someone else. Dammit. And that was a good one!

But, onward! Happy Firday!!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Clouds fucking suck. At least they aren’t fucking filled with screeching children.” I agree with the last part!

Oopsie how did you get on with the PT yesterday? I survived my gym visit but I’m definitely feeling it today! Back tomorrow for a couple of classes then a rest day on Sunday for me.

shoe sorry to hear things have been a bit much lately. I hope today is a better day for you!

Sari I’m pleased to hear that your son is engaging a bit more in the house move, hopefully another visit will help him see the potential of a new place. It’s definitely a good idea to take photos and measurements so you can start to plan how your furniture will fit in.

Wheelie hope your final exam went well, slow and steady is a good way to go with proofreading!

Nothing exciting in my day so far. I was up early after Blossom decided to relocate one of the litter trays so I got up to clean most of that mess up. Couldn’t do it all as 'im indoors was still asleep and it wouldn’t be fair to run the vacuum cleaner so early in the day. He got that little joy instead.

Got to irk, averted a couple of minor crises, and have been slowly plodding through the day. There is some scaffolding going up at the back of the building where the roof repairs are starting, and there’s been some drilling as new tech stuff is being installed in various rooms here. Other than that, it’s very quiet, there’s only two of us in the office today which is fine, we’re just getting on with stuff.

No big plans for tonight either, it’s not my turn to cook so I’ll see what delights 'im indoors comes up with. There’s bound to be a film to watch tonight but no idea what yet. That decision will be made later but I can guarantee you it will not involve Barbie!

Up, shiny clean, but not caffeinated yet. That doesn’t happen until I sit down at irk. We had a mini-hailstorm last night from the tail end of a fast moving storm that was going from northeast to southwest. Storms simply don’t move in that direction over my part of the continent, so it was kinda scary to watch the weather radar. No rainfall with it either. Just hail. Farmer’s Almanac is claiming we will get lots of snow this winter. I kinda hope so because we need that moisture.

We used to go to the local regional airport and watch the planes take off. Mom and Dad would load us in the car to do so when we were restless and unlikely to sleep in hot summer weather. Apparently, it worked quite well because there wasn’t much action to see. And the next day, we could brag to each other that we were “out past bedtime”. I was probably about 8 and my youngest brother was 4 when the trips stopped.

I was expecting things to calm down at irk because the full moon is past, but nope, yesterday brought strangeness, mainly caused by other contractors and franchisees. No calls about a passel of snakes though. Let’s go see what today will bring.

You all have a fantastic Friday!

Lights out at 0015. Other than that, irk & drive home were nominal.

I skipped a bunch of my usual get-home-and-prep-for-immediate-departure-again stuff, but I’m doing that now on Friday morning before my shift starts at noon. I’ll finish up once Her Ladyship makes her late morning reveal.

Not really IMO. More the age of big airports, heavy traffic, and expensive parking did for most of it. There are still a few terminals with observation areas indoors on the outside of the security perimeter. There are also some on the inside of security which are only useful for passengers, not visitors.

A lot of even large airline airports have designated airplane-watching parking areas somewhere along the perimeter. I still see cars and parents and kids in those places pretty regularly. The magic isn’t totally passé. Yet.

Now that is poetic. Tragic too, but a beautiful turn of phrase nonetheless. {{Hugs}}!!

One of these things is not like the other. Color me confused.

Are you sure we’re not the same person? Superheroes, vampires, and all the rest are simply juvenile. They’re not making movies for teenaged boys anymore as grown-ups used to complain about; now movies are mostly for 8yos. Sheesh!

Yaay for lighting that works even when the power doesn’t.

Happy Friday to all!!

Agree with you and doggio, they used to have a good outdoor parking one in St. Louis when I lived there and TWA/Ozark were using it as a hub; almost always busy and at times when something special was due (like a 747 or the F15 National Guard flights) it was often packed. Then they decided to expand the airport with a third runway and built right over it. :disappointed: :disappointed:

FCM, color me another ‘not a vampire/werewolf/zombie fan’, although I will admit to liking An American Werewolf in London. Do like hero movies, comes from reading too many Marvel comics, but even there the thrill, if not gone, is waning. Glad the lighting works.

shoe, life gets that way sometimes; take care and drop back in when you can.

Got to bed around 11pm, but come 3am we got nearly 3 hours of thunderstorms; our old saying around the house when I was a kid when it thundered was “The Angels are Bowling” Well, last night must have been a League Night because it was constant and loud and I didn’t sleep well at all. Managed to stay in until after 7am, but weather forecaster says more rain and thunder is due in about an hour, so hibernation will be the order of the day. At least it has cooled things down, high is only expected to be about 82F.

Now need to forage for some sustenance. Have a good Firday all.

That was a good spot; up on a little hill with a commanding view of everything. You could really see the whole airport’s banana-shaped vertical contour. At one time employee parking was adjacent to that lot and so I’d see the spectators every time I came or went. That’s all gone now. But …

There are still public roads around almost the entire perimeter of STL that have negligible traffic where you can easily park in the adjacent grass and hang out by the fence. What was once the Ozark HQ & Hangar parking lot is now a cellphone waiting lot = free parking. It’s well positioned for watching westbound takeoffs on the new runway, but not much else. Better to just find a nice spot along the perimeter nearer the older runways.

i thought it was fun. spock and m’benga were so disgusted by the singing, and the bunny discussion.

jtc, how 'bout a train? i am looking at taking a train to erie pa and watching the eclipse there.

Mornin’, everyone.

It’s a lovely 66F and sunny with an expected high of 88F. The clouds are supposed to start moving in later today, but there is no rain in the forecast for today or tomorrow.

We went to a greasy spoon for breakfast yesterday, where I attempted to eat a Denver omelet and some hashbrowns. I couldn’t finish either; it was too much food. The food was pretty decent.

After breakfast, we went to the Tacoma Art Museum and walked from that Museum to the Washington State Museum of History. Both had excellent exhibits. While I had been to the history museum before, I had not attended TAM. I didn’t like a couple of the exhibits (art is in the eye of the beholder, after all), but I did enjoy some others. The history museum had some new exhibits I enjoyed and some I had seen in a previous visit. I liked all the Clovis and Native American exhibits. They had many beautiful baskets, hats, and carvings that were just stunning. The beautiful Clovis points were beautiful too. I also enjoyed the Washington State geology exhibit, where we went from pre ice age to now.

This post was interrupted by a bird slamming into my great room window. The little guy was completely stunned (red-breasted nuthatch), and I didn’t want to leave him on the ground because some cats keep coming to my yard, although I keep shooing them away. Anyway, I put the bird in the box for a bit a bit, but his little foot was caught on the towel, so I had to unhook the foot gently. It didn’t want to leave my hand again, so I let it sit there until it could fly off, which it did after giving me a parting poop in the hand. So, I had a bird in my hand, along with a poo.

shoe, girl, you must get better at self-care. I know it’s hard, been there, done that, but I hope you can find a way to look after yourself. Sending hugs and thoughts of serenity.

sari, I’m glad your son seems to be engaged the in the move/look process.

After our late breakfast and museum jaunt, we returned home. Of course, I couldn’t sit still for long, so I started rearranging planters and pots in my little container garden area. Once I did that, I realized how much I hate the original pavers I put down a few years ago, and now I want to finish that area out with the ones I put down a few days ago. But it’ll take around 20 more pavers, and some weigh 65 pounds a piece. There is no way I want to load those on a cart, trundle them to the Jeep, load them in the Jeep, then unload them from the Jeep and finally have to move them around as I lay them. On top of that, I have to remove all the old pavers, and finally, there are those really heavy bags of sand and gravel base. I have to see if I can get all that delivered.

My husband rolled his eyes and said he thought it looked it fine, but the reason he did that is he doesn’t want to have to move pavers around. I don’t expect him to do that; I’ll do it.

I don’t have anything on the agenda for today. I might go down to the nursery in the valley, or I might just stay here.

Alrighty then. On with the day. Need to run the dishwasher and water plants now.

I’m with you on the zombies / werewolves / vampires books and movies Moooooom, although I will make exception for parody of them.

{{{shoe}}}

metal mouse, my mom used to use the angels bowling phrase and it was league night here most of the day and night yesterday too.

taters, when my sister and BIL decided to redo the brickwork walkways in their New Orleans-style garden / patio backyard, they had the orange store deliver several pallets of bricks. It worked, since all they had to do was make sure the dogs were inside and open the garden gate to bring them in (BIL brought home a pallet jack and empty pallet from irk to manage this).

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, been to the dog park, a load of towels in the dryer and a load of clothes in the wash. Fixing to do KP and houseirk. Other than groceries, the only thing else on the agenda is to go to the complex office and sign my new lease.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

So they gave us Shaggy to do bags today. Which meant he had to do work. And listen to Panamanian Vince’s theology lesson.
I like zombies, werewolves, vampires, mummies, and The Holy Ghost

You need a swallow. :bird:

Also, from today’s FlightAware email, one Super Constellation:

Rough day yesterday after not much sleep. Last night I said “fuck it” and laid on some tramadol during the night. Much better this morning.

Went to the first real day of outpatient PT this morning. Man, they don’t fool around. Gonna be sore tomorrow, so I’m icing things. I foresee nappage in my near future.

Wow! I’ve flown on Super Connies in my dim past. It was the plane of choice in Alaska for many years

Thanks, all, for the good wishes. It occurred to me that, in addition to not eating enough lately, I’ve seriously slacked off on taking any vitamins.

So I just washed down a multi with a few handfuls of Cheerios, and am being very still so’s not to stir things back up, so to speak.

Convinced myself to fold some sheets, since now I have shelves on which to put them away. Mostly just to not feel like a complete waste of human skin.

At least my bedroom is less disorganized now.

Have taken a long, badly-needed shower, and am … probably gonna go lay back down till my “get up” alarm goes off.

Feeling very fatigued.

Lotta posts, y’all.

I still call them Friendship and National unless required to do otherwise.

I’m sooooo glad it’s Friday! This week hasn’t been bad or difficult or anything, just kind of strangely long. So far the day has been relatively quiet, and at 1:16pm (when I started this post) I’m mostly caught up* so I’m taking a break to eat some lunch and putz around with y’all.

*I finished the test report I was putting off editing yesterday, and am currently putting off editing a new/completely different test report. I’m caught up on everything else, though, and this one can wait a bit.

This morning FB reminded me of something I posted there 5 years ago today: it seems appropos to share here, given all of the recent plane/flying/airport talk.

I’m watching a documentary about everything that happens behind the scenes of both the airport and the aircraft when we fly, and I just watched a bit about takeoffs. I love takeoffs! The science involved in getting such a big, heavy, metal thing into the air isn’t all *that* complicated, and I mostly get it (in theory), but part of me is also always completely astounded. I’ve taken many flights in my lifetime: I recently returned from a trip that included three takeoffs, and each one still felt kind of like magic. I may busy myself while the plane taxis, but I never read or sleep or listen to music during a takeoff: I like to look out the nearest window as the plane hurtles down the runway, and I love the moment when the front wheels leave the ground. There’s nothing quite like it. Don’t get me wrong: there’s also nothing like the moment when the back wheels touch the ground during a landing. 😉 But takeoffs are special. Even though big ol’ jet airliners have been around for decades, flying still feels a bit like living in the future to me. #kidatheart #planesarecool

I’d recently come back from a trip to central Washington: IAD > SEA was direct, but my direct flight home got cancelled so I wound up going SEA > ORD > IAD (it was my first time at O’Hare as an adult). The documentary – actually a three-part docuseries – was the BBC’s City in the Sky (2016).

Between the pandemic and my surgery and travel industry nonsense, I haven’t flown since January 2020. :frowning:

I lived in Ferndale – which was pretty much GB, but had its own ZIP code. I got my first tattoo in GB, at Dragon Moon. My mom insisted on using Ferndale as our address because she thought it sounded “fancier” than GB. Heh. I went to Archbishop Spalding for HS (it was “Martin Spalding” when I started). And yes, I definitely remember Dorsey Road going all the way out! And I knew that BWI was historically Friendship, but we didn’t move to the area until after the name change so I never called it that.

Ha! :joy:

Thanks for asking! We wound up doing arms/shoulders/core work (including my first planks in ~15 years), and it kicked my butt a little but I’m feeling pretty OK today. I mean, I’m a little sore and can definitely tell that I went to the gym, but I’m still amazed every time I’m not completely crippled the day after a workout. When I mentioned that to my trainer, he said not to worry and that I’ll definitely start feeling some pain in about a month (this was only week two, so he’s still ramping things up/going relatively easy on me).

I do want to start doing stuff between/other than workouts. I have a dusty treadmill at home, and eventually I’ll start using that again during the week. I’m already starting to feel some motivation in that regard, but so far “tired and sore” has been kicking “motivated”'s ass. The gym has a bunch of classes, all of which are included in my monthly membership fee, so I’ll likely look into one of those at some point as well.

Ugh…I’m glad you gave in and used the tramadol. Sometimes drugs are appropriate!

Yep; National will always be National to me.
