Oh. Sorry to keep you waiting! I’ll add my vote for gold.
Feel better soon, shoe!
peedin, the hamstring injury thing just sucks. I’m sad for you, but glad riding is still an option.
nellie, safe travels to Chicago and have a wonderful time, if that’s an appropriate thing to say! I missed when you first mentioned going there, so I’ve no idea the purpose of your visit. I hope for fun. Hope the migraine passes soon, too.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently -1c/31f with a predicted high of 5c/41f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “This is the perfect fucking day to call in sick, even if you’re not fucking sick. Feel free to tell your fucking boss I said it was ok.” It’s cold, bright and sunny out there. My boss has called in sick.
I’m pleased to hear that FCD was able to successfully rebandage your toe and you’re back in comfortable footwear again.
I think the cash bit is the hardest part! I hope it all goes well and the pain is kept to a minimum.
You’d be ok as long as you didn’t open your mouth!
I lost my mum 5 years ago this year, it’s always hard when her birthday rolls around but you’re right, there are more happy than sad thoughts now.
Good to know that what’s going in is staying where it ought to! Let’s hope recovery continues and you make it through the day with the help of more snacks.
I am so sorry that it wasn’t the good news you were hoping for
JtC I vote for silver, but only because I prefer silver over gold.
There was a pub visit, and they had a delicious toffee porter on too. That definitely had to be tested!
Very sensible, you don’t need to be putting yourself in danger just to fetch him back from work.
But they’re so very you!
That must have been a huge relief! And congrats on getting back into the gym, definitely best to have an easy start and work up to what you were doing before.
There was a very pleasant pub visit last night as my friends were in a fit state to be out. The pub we chose was busier than usual, which is nice to see. It meant a late night for me, and I was up early to come to campus so I am feeling rather tired.
Also hurting. I pulled something in my neck/shoulder at the gym on Saturday, and it’s become very painful. I can feel the tightness in the muscle and am taking painkillers for a while. Doing just about anything is uncomfortable, but I have things to do so I am doing them, but slowly!
'im indoors is due home tonight, I’ll have to see if he can get himself home from the station without needing me to drive down there to collect him. I don’t think being in a car is going to help at all.
It’s 32F and cloudy outside right now. A few snow flurries may be possible, but our expected high temperature is 42F, and the afternoon will contain partly cloudy skies.
I’m sorry for not posting the last few days. I typed a post on Monday morning but did not hit reply. I thought I did, but I had lots on my mind. Shortly after I typed my non-submitted post, I hit the road for Mount Vernon, WA. I made a stop in Mukilteo to meet with our former SD and have a cup of coffee, and then proceeded on to the office in Mount Vernon. I assessed some space, met with some other agency folks, and then had lunch and cake with my agency staff where we all commiserated and shared resources. I also provided any information I could share, which, honestly isn’t much, because it’s not being shared with anyone.
You’ll probably see less of me around here, only because I start back the office full time next week. I tend to post in the morning, and I certainly cannot post from government furnished equipment. I could post from my personal cell, but I hate trying to type and bold, etc. on the phone. I dunno, we’ll see. I was thinking about purchasing a little laptop or notebook, but I’m not keen on spending extra money right now.
And, yes, things are becoming progressively worse. The constant barrage of memos, veiled threats, and other things is exhausting. Today is the big deadline for the Fuck You, oops, Fork in the Road. I am not signing.
Peedin, I’m so sorry about the results of your MRI and doctor visit. I’d be super pissed off, but I’m glad you can still ride and hope you can find the proper mounting block.
VanGo, I’m sorry about the truck. I know even used vehicles are expensive and I hope you can find the solution that fits.
FCM, I’m sorry to read about the BiL. Don’t let your sweetie’s feelings of guilt break you two down.
Shoe, I’m sorry you’ve been feeling so poorly. I hope you’re back to 100% soonest.
I know there is much more, but that’s what I remember for now.
I was in the office Monday, Mount Vernon on Tuesday, and back in the office yesterday. Thankfully, I can work from home today. I’m not looking forward to having to commute every day. The cost of fuel alone is going to be extra painful. I have to run premium in the Jeep and it’s not cheap here. The Jeep has a V8, so gas mileage is not exactly great. My round trip commute is going to be 75 to 80 miles a day.
I’m sending my very best to all of you. I’m glad I can “see” you most days and am thankful for this little bright spot in my life.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 76 and partly cloudy. We shall be bears who brunch at Eggs Up (we’ll see if there’s a surcharge for aigs) for today’s main need to feed. Then we will engage in RDOS inactivities the rest of the day. I took a big chikin outta da freezer last night. I will turn it into chikin sallit tomorrow. That will become sammiches to take over to the church house Sattidy for a reception after a funeral. I also get to serve at the funeral. I lead such an excitatin’ life!
MetalMouse glag OG had your debit card.
VanGo sorry about your truck. Hope you can get a new ride soonest.
shoe yay for feelin’ better!
Taters sorry things are so sucky at irk. Let’s just hope things settle down soonest. The hope for that feels very slim right now.
JtC I vote for the silver cause I like silver.
Now I need more caffeine. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe!
VanGo, frankly, that sucks. I hope you are able to come up with an acceptable solution soon.
Taters, frankly, that also sucks - especially your commute time. Yuck. Many hugs to you.
MetalMouse, glad your card was waiting for you!
shoe, I hope you’re feeling better today!
Well, I’ve been up since 4:30ish when MusicMan got up. Poor thing, couldn’t find his lanyard so I was trying to help him. Turns out it was already around his neck! Oh well, I’m glad that it was found. Many schools are closed or delayed around here because there was freezing rain overnight.
Now I’m just sitting here contemplating what I can get into that won’t be too much for my knee. Two days of increased activity have made one cranky knee this morning. I’d like to go do some sewing. I guess I can do a little bit at a time and see how that goes.
My youngest sister (who turns 60 this year!!!) had a Thanksgiving tradition of offering $5 to anyone who’d drink the pitcher full of gravy. She never got any takers… Sounds like she would have been paying out with this crowd!
I have been heard, on many occasions, to say “The best tool for the job is a checkbook!” It was a rare proclamation in my younger days, but these days, yep! Which is why we need to get another quote for repair of our deck.
After all the blankets I’ve made, I know which patterns will hide an error easily and which need to be ripped out and done again… The color of yarn makes a difference, too. Tho, frankly, in most cases, I’m the only one who would know - especially since they go to older folk with (probably) poor eyesight.
I hate when that happens. Sometimes (but not always) I can use the trick of relaxing all my muscles, starting at the toes. The act of concentrating on each body part in succession, to the exclusion of other thoughts, often works - I rarely get to my shoulders and neck before I’m asleep again. A kind of self-hypnosis, I guess. Hope you can finally find sleep.
It’s a pain on my tablet also, plus of late, the tablet takes to minimizing the window for no apparent reason… OK, maybe there’s a reason I haven’t figured out - the screen seems really sensitive to any little touch. But, I commiserate!
I didn’t manage to sleep uninterrupted, but when I woke 3-ish, I stayed in bed and fell back to sleep in short order till just after 7. When I finally did drag myself to the living room, I saw a HUGE driveway puddle. That’s our rain gauge - it’s a slightly low part that doesn’t drain very fast and it not only hints at how much rain we got, but we can see if drops are still falling. Anyway, we got a lot of precip overnight.
More is predicted till around noon today, then sun tomorrow, then rain/snow on Saturday. I’m pretty sure I’ll stay in the house today. I could blame my toe, but really it’s because I don’t wanna go anywhere!! So I won’t.
I do have to empty the dishwasher and I should clean the basement fireplace since the kids will be here Moanday and I’ll need to heat it up for them. in fact, I need to talk to SIL about Moanday/Tuesday. I know I’m supposed to pick them up after school, but I don’t remember if I’m keeping Trevor, too, and I think SIL is coming to get them early on Tues and take them to school, but I don’t remember. I should have written it all down.
We’ve been watching various series on BritBox - really more like mini-series. The standard seems to be 6 episodes per season, and we just watched two single season (or maybe first season?) shows - police procedurals. The only problem we have is when they speak very fast or rather softly - we tend to miss dialog because of accents and/or local slang, or not knowing the geography of the show’s location. But we get the gist of the shows. Anyway, tonight we’ll pick another one.
I’ve been watching Death in Paradise myself because FCD thinks it’s gotten a bit too silly. And he’s mostly right, plus I don’t like this 4th DI as much as the others. Plus for such a small island, they sure do have a lot of murders! I think I just started season 11 and they’re about to release season 14 - oh the humanity about to be slaughtered!!!
OK, more reading to do - quit distracting me! And Happy Thursday!!
Well, the building’s heat crapped out last evening and is still out this morning. I called the front desk last night and all she could say was “yeah, residents are complaining about that”. When I asked what was being done, she said “well, nobody comes in until tomorrow morning.” I told her that that was unacceptable, as it was 5F outside and that I considered this to be an urgent problem. She just repeated that nobody comes in until morning. I told her that perhaps I should set the furniture on fire. No response. I got up at 0400 and turned on the space heater, but it is still cold in here this morning. Also turned on the oven when I got up at 0730. I believe I’ll be having a chat with management later today.
It is messy 33, feels like 26, degrees outside.
I rescheduled the lab appointment.
My son got off at midnight. Took him forever to wake me up. It started raining just before I picked him up, so no problems driving. I just slowed down a bit.
He may or may not have to go in tonight, it depends on how many day shift people show up and how much irk they get done.
Not knowing is a pita.
I left a message with my doctor’s office asking for a call back if they are open or closed today.
I hope they are closed. I’d reschedule except I just did that last week.
I did, eventually, thank you, and got about another four hours, as per usual.
It’s been awhile since I considered 9 a.m. to be an acceptable time to be awake for the day, but I guess when you go to bed at “normal people time” …
Anyway, the additional rest seems to have done me a lot of good. That infernal heartburn has resolved itself - hopefully for good - and I don’t feel nearly so blurfy.
Today’s my scheduled day off, and I ain’t even mad about it.
Plans include a great deal of lolling and sitting (and eating!) and to take out as much trash as possible, given my still-pitiful energy reserves.
I do need to obtain more Monkey kibble - did you know most pets have to eat every day? - so if ambition holds up, I’ll do that.
No, the folks getting it were management not staff, and I was short on cash anyway. I do try to tip at least 25% when I eat out.
{{{Taters}}}, sounds like work is going to be a chore, and I don’t know that it’s going to get better anytime soon. Hang in there and visit us when you can.
Not quite the same, but the number of times I’ve found what I was looking for in my hand is not inconsequential…
shoe, hope the heartburn goes away; sounds like you need a little more rest. Take care.
I guess we know where Jessica Fletcher’s family came from… jessica Fletcher was the lead character in Murder She Wrote and there was always talk about how many murders there were in the small New England town she lived in…
Cookie, I doubt that you were the only one complaining! Maybe a letter to management, perhaps signed by most of the residents, would at least make them have some contingency plans…
Well, my Edward Jones tax stuff was on their website this morning, so i need to get the Turbo Tax for this year and get them done this weekend. Have finished a big bowl of Cereal and will head out to return the pills and get the Turbo Tax (Staples is right across the road from Wal-Greens). Otherwise not much planned.
Oh, and the stitches are falling out from the operation area, I wondered why the Doc didn’t pull them when I visited, apparently they wear off on their own now (at least I hope they do…). Another day of possible rainshowers and temperatures reaching 70F. Have a good Thorsday all.
Yeah, I noticed that! I’m sure that’s why they made it an imaginary island - otherwise it might affect tourism!
Speaking of which, I looked up where they film the show - it’s on the north end of Guadaloupe. And you can take a Death in Paradise Tour that goes to a lot of the sites from the show. In fact, the “Honoré Police Station” is a tourist attraction in Deshaies, Guadeloupe. There are also tours of the sites used in Shetland and Doc Martin, and I imagine for other shows that use actual towns and not just sets. (found this.) So if you’re looking for a different vacation…
Speaking of critter kibble, Ziva horked up a big pile of it last night. Fortunately it was near her dish, not on the carpet, and I saw it before it got stepped in. It was pretty easy to clean up, so there’s that.
When I unbandaged my toe, there was a small spot of blood on the gauze - pretty much what one would expect. It’s been washed and re-bandaged, and I think once I no longer see blood on the gauze, I’ll go with just the bandaid. I’m really surprised there’s no pain - I expected it to hurt for at least a few days. Anyway, good sign! so YAY!
Meanwhile, I’m showered and dressed and thinking about doing my chores… eventually. It’s still pouring and anyone who’s interested in my rain gauge puddle can find it on FB.
So, off to my recliner to think about doing something.
Well, we had fire trucks here last night, probably someone leaving a space heater on, so perhaps that will get their attention. There is a guy who, in exchange for being a sort of back-up maintenance person, gets free rent. He’s a nice guy, but anything past a plugged toilet is beyond his ken. The heat came back on this morning without any outside help being called in. I’m betting it was just a breaker or something that needed to be reset, and the maintenance guy took care of it when he came in. If it wasn’t for the fact that the management thinks all seniors are stupid or demented, I’d volunteer to be a backup contact, since I have ample training in building maintenance.
The little stinkers do get insistent about that, don’t they? Allie’s especially pesky on the subject lately. I suppose it’s a good thing that she has a good appetite, but she’ll start campaigning for supper several HOURS early.
Probably a good thing she traveled so much, or her town probably would have had a population of about eight.
Raining again here, plus another wind advisory (although wind isn’t bad so far), and Buddy is not pleased to hear landscaping activity outside. I do feel sorry for the landscaping guys, being out in this.
Various snacks have been ingested, plus I finished off my cold tea. (I made a restorative cuppa in the wee hours, and although it felt & tasted soooo goooood in my mouth, my esophagus was unhappy with each tiny sip. So I just let it sit for a few hours. Still good, it’s still good.)
A few bites of grape popsicle soothed my throat, and I do have ice cream available, so no worries on that procurement front.
Let Monks out for a bit, and he is predictably annoyed at the fresh layer of snow.
Okay, imma see if I doze off for a while. Probably not … a sincere belief in which is often the surest route to success.
The hummingbird feeder heater did a good job of keeping the bottom of the vessel liquid. Someone had put this feeder out on the corner, where people put ‘free stuff’ (much to the chagrin of one particular neighbour who doesn’t own the corner lot). When hummingbirds drink the nectar, the nectar in the vessel doesn’t refill the dish. I don’t know why. I wash it every time I add/change the nectar. The string on the heater has become brittle over the years, but it’s still holding. I’ve ordered a new feeder and a new heater, and they should be here tomorrow. I’ll re-string the current heater. We’ll keep the current feeder as a spare.
26º Ferret Height right now. There’s a little ice next to the deep freezer on the catio, but it’s easy enough to avoid. I may or may not put de-icer on it. I slipped a little as I was retrieving a broom (behind the freezer) to sweep a path clear of snow to the hummingbird feeder.
So I was doing the same thing as yesterday. Except, they got a volunteer to leave off the table even before we started, Which lead to an endless round of:
TPTB: "dogbutler, why aren’t you loading the package car?
Me: “Table is still at 100%.”
Then they sent one lady over to the 300 Table to help. Then they finally brought a(completely different) person back so I could do the table, except the Senior Clerk was so swamped with her job that she could do my clerk job. So I had to do that, go back to the package car, and doing a bit of the Slide stuff, too. Of course the guy doing the other 3 cars in the set waited till the end to do add cuts, and they got swept down the belt when the irregs came, and since somebody forgot to turn off the 1G, they went on a tour of the building, along with a bed frame that fell onto the belt. So the add/cuts got to the new package car, late, which honked off that driver. Also the dude made a wreck of loading, so one of the driverside office people in a yuppie armless UPS vest came out of his climate controlled office and took photos. And it’s not my circus, not my monkeys. And I did my Teeter Senior Day shopping, and stocked up on beer.
As a GERD sufferer, ouch. Gaviscon is good for it.
This is why I never go to the gym. But feel better. Maybe the mogs can make you some tee and Ibuprofin?
