I fear the truck has given it’s all. 227+k miles. I think the head gasket is gone. Dunno if it is worth it to get that done on a truck that worn, but I can’t really afford a new, or used one right now.
Howdy Y’all! We procured provisions and then were RDOS this afternoon. Wednesday gatherin’ was well attended. We et hamburger steak and gravy, smashed N.O.T., green beans, rolls and strawberry shortcake. YUM! I was asked if I wanted gravy on my smashed N.O.T. I said of course I do, I also want gravy on my gravy. I like gravy.
I am brilliant.
Not.
I crushed the doritos, put the cheese in, started to cut the tomato.
Uh oh. I was out of Kraft Zesty italian dressing.
Eating it, but less enjoyably.
And a good evening to all. Finally made it to the gym and tried to get back into the flow of things, swam 1,200 yards (I was previously up to 3,500) and did 20 minutes each on the stationary and recumbent cycles and finished with 20 minutes of 3.1mph walking. Figured i burned about 800 calories, there were days I was around 1,500 but that might have aggravated the hernia, so I’ll ease back into things. Still, it was a good day…
…until I noticed my debit card was missing. Emptied out the billfold and checked the pants pockets, but no sign. I has used it last on Sunday at Olive Garden, so I tried calling them…and wonder of wonders, they had it! So drove down there though 5pm traffic, and sure enough they had it.
Stopped on the way back at a local Sub shop called Stanlieo’s, their subs are good but a bit different, but I have a full belly so not complaining. Home now and will be staying put, had a little rain but nothing severe.
shoe, better a short paycheck now than having none for a week if you really got sick. Take care.
Cookie, got an ache in the back left leg muscle, can’t figure out what I did but hope your aches go away soon. New laptop is probably not a bad idea.
doggio, not a big fill up, guess Carmen isn’t that thirsty.
FCM, glad your toe isn’t aching. I need to stop at Walgreens, they have a place to safely drop off unused presciptions and I don’t need the pain or nausea medicine (I’d offer them to Coppertone and Shoe but I think the authorities would not be amused).
I ended up doing my ETA from my desktop, had the same issues you did trying to use the app, and also think I had CC issues. Finally did get it after taking a day to let the system settle down. And I’ve heard rumors of bogus sites that will try to charge you extra, so be aware and make sure you have the legal site.
Oopsie, good on ya for expanding your knowledge in all different directions. Enjoy the festival.
Dammit, you beat me to it!
Flyboy, I finally gave up on paper notifications last year for my credit cards, just rely on checking them weekly on-line. Hope Goo doesn’t end up with clogged arteries…
JtC, I have no knowledge of knitting, but I kinda like the gold stuff. And kudos for recovering the ring…Frodo has been worried sick about it…
Knots, I didn’t know you could buy an endoscope (just checked Amazon, not too pricey, may have to consider it…). Still haven’t seen a Girl Scout table around here yet.
wet one, I would be furious too; hope the work-arounds do not cause you too much inconvenience.
nellie, nice of the folks to help with the EP shot. And yeah, a wet coat in cold weather is just plain miserable.
Thanks for the laugh out loud moment!
Sticky Buns, glad the day went more or less OK; that’s what I’m shooting for these days. And love your latest hat creation!!
Sari, no wussie there, some weather and roads are not meant to be driven on, especially when it is dark and cold. Be safe.
{{{VanGO}}, tough choice; have you tried pricing any well-used vehicles around there?
swampy, I like gravy too. At the Golden Corral I get the Pot Roast and rice on my plate and drench it in gravy.
Just watched the Southwest Chief depart LaPlata Missouri on Virtual Railfan, 2 of the 3 cameras were covered in ice, so not complaining about it being 53F outside. Take care all and will catch up on Thorsday.
I like to clean out my inbox as much as possible. It’s better to have a piece of paper in my checkbook on the corner of the table, so that I can see it and not forget it.
Some of those unneeded prescription collection boxes will not take narcotic pain medications. Check before you drop it in. If not, ask the pharmacist for the best way for you to discard the narcotic pain meds in your state.
And you’re right, the federales would not look kindly on sharing. They have absolutely no sense of humor about that.
Today was readcation. Slept in a bit, rolled out of bed, headed to the restaurant for breakies, and started the book. Had about 3 hours when I wasn’t reading due to a building errand. Then back to the book. Finished the book around 8 o’clock.
Back to work tomorrow. It is nice having a mid week break.
My first choice would be the blue beads but I know you dislike doing beads and macerating your fingers, so I’ll be mature and vote for silver French knots. I do love me some French knots too.
are you at your sister’s in LA? When do you go to Chicago?
metal mouse that must have been VERY disconcerting to find the dr card missing. I’m so glad that you were able to use the Sesame Street method of walking back through your memory then go to Olive Garden and wonder of wonders, they had your card! Yay!
Oh, and did you stretch before you swam? You need to stretch your hammies or yes, it is likely that you can get an ache, particularly when you haven’t exercised in a while and you’re not in your twenties anymore. After my mid 30’s, if I didn’t stretch before swimming laps, I would feel it.
Also, hopefully lastly, if I were you, even though you are hoping you won’t be needing any pain or nausea medication, I would suggest holding on to them. They generally don’t expire for a year and you never know. No use tempting fate… or Murphy.
I don’t recall taters posting this week or after mid-week last week. I’m very concerned. Hugs to taters
This is the first I’m hearing of it. It’s in sari’s neighborhood more than mine. Nothing in this half of the state could ever be mistaken for a mountain.
MetalMouse - I downloaded the app so I’m pretty sure it’s legit. And I’ll give it another try tomorrow. Glad I decided to do the visa check, I never heard of this ETA. But we’ve got time to work it out.
Something I’ve wondered with vehicles - if you drive very little, how many taxi/uber rides would be the equivalent of car payment + insurance + gas + maintenance costs? I bet someone somewhere has figured that out. Just thinking ahead. Waaaaay ahead!
It’s sleepy-bye time for me. Can I make it undisturbed all night? Tune in tomorrow and find out!
Back in the day, we had a certain credit card company that whose bills arrived almost two weeks into the 30-day Pay By date. (We were living in Nowhere, Montana back then.) Then it took the company two full weeks to process the payment, so even paying it by return mail was iffy. I’m glad they at least removed one of the charges, flyboy, but it should have been both, since it was their screw-up.
Ms. Shoe, I’m glad you went home. I know you need the money, but sometimes it’s matter over mind, and this was it. Don’t forget to drink lots of liquids! Some icy drinks might help that poor, battered esophagus.
WetOne, I am so, SO sorry about your news. How aggravating that it could and should have been caught earlier. And it’s such a big injury! I’m frustrated on your behalf. I once tore the hamstring and broke off a fragment of the sit bone, but stupid me refused to go to the doc for five months, by which point the damage was permanent, but that was SMALL and my own fault. I’m angry on your behalf. [shakes fist at stupid ER doc]
I have a new word I can use when I’m frustrated with someone. That yellow-bellied, lily-livered Snallygaster! I shall employ a less sanitized version when just thinking it.
Proving yet again what a warm-hearted gift to humanity you are. If you’re not careful, we’ll have to start calling you St. Jane of the Canes. Quick, do something naughty!
Sticky, that photo is the best! I’m still chuckling!
Dammit. Just what you don’t need.
I have no idea what you’re making, but anything with Doritos in it is fine by me!
MetalMouse, a retroactive WHEW ! on the debit card.
Oh, no, I’m still in WA. Sorry, I didn’t phrase that well. I leave Saturday for Chicago.
Dang, I didn’t respond to everyone I wanted to, but I’ve been fighting off a migraine, and I have to go eat something.
OK, have time for a late-night final. Doing well, no soreness from the exercise and ought to sleep well tonight. Still in the 60’sF, so sleepage should be comfortable.
BBBoo, of course I was jesting about sending them to others, I will dispose of them properly. Your point on narcotic medication is well-taken, the pain pills are Oxycodone/Acetaminophen which sounds vaguely menacing, so i will ask the pharmacist at Wal-greens about them.
Indeed. I try to stay around 400 miles a month, which is also my full-tank range.
Well, it did worry me, but I review my checking account balance every day or two (nice being retired) and nothing had been charged to it, plus I could see the Olive Garden had been the last place I used it. The folks there of course checked my ID, but said it was not an unusual occurrence, the ‘pay-at-the-table’ machines that read your card hide it pretty well so forgetful people (like me) can leave it inserted. Guess stores where the machines tell you to take your card with you are pretty practical…
I haven’t done stretches before swimming or cycling, might consider doing some.
FCM, I hadn’t either, but the guy who is setting my trip up mentioned it.
And it’s 10:20pm and I have a couple sections of the Sunday Times to read before lights out. Take care all.
That certainly looks like a hat to me. Hubs often wears a cathat at night. GG likes to sleep on his pillow which allows hubs to snuggle his bald head into vibrating fur as he goes to sleep.
I’m so sorry.
I really wish life didn’t keep kicking you, you deserve so much better. (I still hate your ex-gf)
What a silly question, gravy is the food of the gods!
NOOOO! Thank goodness some honest person turned your card back in, there are so many not honest folks around anymore.
(Did you tip? If so, how much did you tip? Mom was really bad about leaving things despite my best efforts and we always tipped when we picked them up. Hubs has gotten really bad about forgetting things as well, so I’ve gotten into the habit of waiting until everyone is done and then looking over the table, chairs/benches and floor before leaving.)
Thanks for the vote! I wanna make this sparkle, I’m going to put it in a frame and give it to the lady with the decorations for her 4th of July fireplace mantle display. I noticed that the day after I stopped by to compliment her decorating that she had red and pink heart lights strung all the way around their house. Usually the lights are only on the front porch.
They were very patient and didn’t make fun of me where I could hear it I could have done it myself, but why put myself through all that when I can just give someone else money to do it while I sit in front of my easel and stitch?
With the same spotless white carpet. That is just amazing to me every time I see it.
Thanks for the vote!
I agree about your worries. Things haven’t gotten better since then. My Puerto Rican doctor has just moved to telemed only because he is worried about driving to the office that he has owned for over thirty years.
I agree about holding on to the pain meds for just in case. Murphy can be a right bastid at times.
That is a great word, isn’t it! It could have so many uses.
So…that one confused me. You know how super lazy I am, that was the easiest thing to do with it, I certainly wasn’t going to make signs and take out an ad in the newspaper.
Last week, I accidentally let half a loaf of bread get moldy and then tossed it into the gully for the crows. I also give them slices of baloney just because I like seeing them turn into their inner Velociraptor.
So while I’m waiting for all of the vote to come in, I pulled out my big piece from last year that I messed up so badly. It has been long enough that I can look at it again and now I can see that it will be fairly easy to either fix or cheat depending on my mood when I’m ready to go back to that part. I’ll wait until I’ve done everything else so I’ll know if I have enough thread to frog it or if I have to compensate instead. I’m the only one who will ever look at it and know that something is wrong.
I conked out early (for me) and just awoke from over 3 hrs of very deep sleep. And I’m already yawning again!
Plus, I woke with a gnawin’ and cravin’ for the last of my breakfast snacker, and I haven’t wanted food of any kind in ages - it’s been a forced slog lately.
Even the soup I like, I had to make myself get up and fix it.
Oh, that is definitely the plan.
I forsee a restorative hot cuppa in my near future.
