(Old) Spot-ify: The MMP That's The Cat's Meow

Awake and sheveled, as they say.
Except I am sheveled while asleep too.
Its almost 30 but we are to get sleety mix today.
They always exaggerate so we shall see.
Off to library.

Asknott doesn’t watch the nfl due to the brain injuries. I also have cut back for the same reason.

Thankfully they are taking it more seriously now and have concussion protocols. I believe a multibillion dollar entity can do much better in caring for the people that produce the multibillions.

What a beautiful quilt!! The color choice is just fantastic!

Congratulations, and I hope it’s the first of many more pieces of good news coming your way!

Safe travels nellie

BBBoo sorry to hear you aren’t healing as quickly as you’d like. Although it does sound like glasses will help a lot (and don’t blame you on not paying the $4200 - that’s a lot!). And I understand your frustration with not being able to read. Audiobooks just don’t work for me except in very limited situations. Is Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program an option for you? It works on devices other than just Kindles.

Happy anniversary JtC!

It is another overcast and drizzly day here. The meteorologists really whiffed on this week’s forecast - they had predicted sunny days with temps 20-30 degrees warmer than what we actually ended up with. Which makes me a little nervous about the upcoming week, as it is increasingly looking like we might get a couple of waves of ice Tuesday and Wednesday.

May I ask what you do with your creations, in that case? Hang 'em on a wall? Maintain the world’s warmest couch?

Ah, yes, the ol’ “I woke up like this!” thing.

Thank you. I figured it meant … something … and that it was somehow related to the Bowl game, but couldn’t for the life of me puzzle out what & how.

Didn’t get to sleep 'till around 5 a.m. (typical for post Long Night, I mean, I’m whupped but ya gotta wind down) so now at { checks watch } just after 9 a.m., yup, four hours later …

I dreamed a brightly rainbow-colored cat curled up in my arms … and awoke to a black panther sound asleep next to me. :black_heart:

He’s making up for it by howling at the door after I just!! let him out so he could re-confirm that yes, it’s still cold and icy/snowy outside and that he did not, in fact, want to be out there.

But now he’s yowling like a prison lifer anyway. Dude, you were paroled. Put the harmonica away.

I gave him a bit of squeezy-crack to shut his ass up make up for the cruel injustices of his world.

Back is quite achy this morning (I sneezed, hard, and that was … gasp inducing) but I’m able to sit down & stand back up with a relative minimum of “old people noises” so I guess y’all don’t hafta take me out back & shoot me like a dying horse just yet.

Oh, I did a DUMB THING at work last night.

We have lemon juice packets (for a lakeshore pizza joint, we sell a surprising amount of seafood) and I’d gotten into the habit awhile ago of popping one open & into my mouth, when I wanted a quick hit of sweet/sour.

In fact, last summer, I discovered that if you stash a few in the freezer, and then forget about them until someone goes, “Why the hell …?” and you go, “Oh yeah! Those are mine!” with no further explanation, and the entire kitchen gives you a WTF look … you wind up with teeensy tiny wee little bite-sized lemon popsicles. Very refreshing.

Anyway, last night I guess the Rolaids were working better than my brain, because I forgot and popped one into my mouth.

Mother of GAWD did I have regrets in life about .07 moments later.

Baked chicken-curry empanadas (another frozen-in-a-box creation from the rasp.puff people) laat night and ate half of them.

So I’m having the other half now, with a cuppa of “responsibly cooled off and thus not nearly as satisfying, but still tasty” tea, and enjoying my Christmas tree lights.

It amuses me these days when people get the January doldrums (“oh, it’s so dark!” “all the Christmas decorations are gone, wah!”) like, nah, hun, that’s a “you” problem.

Mine stay up until AT LEAST the time change - once the days are longer & the sun goes down later, there’s less incentive/time to enjoy them. But for now? They do an excellent job of chasing away Nature’s gloom.

The political situation, now, that’s above their pay grade.

I have been well trained by the cats. They were meowing quite pitifully and pawing at the windows. So even though it’s 40 degrees (4 C) outside with 20 mph winds, I’ve opened the dining room windows enough that the fuzzbutts can lay on the windowsills and enjoy the great outdoors. I’ve had to grab a blanket.

Sleety mix and/or freezing rain predicted for later this morning into the afternoon. My only plan is to visit Ariel but not if the driving is hazardous.

I see Eric the PT Tuesday for my final ankle session and will give him the next order for hamstring PT. I will talk to him about how this can affect other body parts. I’m also going to see the ortho P.A. because I like her and trust her.

So much happening in our Mumper gang.

That is not good. Do you have a heating pad? I hope your back recovers quickly.

Well, that sounds like an acceptable alternative! I hope you are feeling better soon as well!

That’s my concern. I saw it happen to a friend once because her husband had to get involved and they ended up with a druggy living with them for almost two years before friend left.

That sounds like a lovely idea. He’s a good guy.

Exactly. I just seem to get more motivated to go out and move my body if other people are also doing the same thing.

Whoops! I try to always put all of the recipe ingredients out on the kitchen island before I start. That helps me be sure I have everything before I start, plus helps me make sure I haven’t left anything out because I put the stuff I’ve used on a different counter.

Thanks for the anniversary wishes, twenty five years without anyone getting murderized isn’t bad. Hopefully we will make it to 40.

I’m guessing you aren’t the only one who is going to be paying close attention to their time nowadays. This isn’t going to save any money at all, Musk just doesn’t think the working class can be trusted without constant micro supervision.

Oh, that sounds delightful. I’m going to have to get some ice cube trays and make myself some lemon ice. I’ll bet it works wonderful for cottonmouth.

But not when you’ve coughed your throat raw.

So our flood watch was upgraded to a warning. The river is definitely up and the creek was almost at the top of the bridge when I went to the gym. There’s been an inch and a half of rain so far today and it is still coming down.

It seems as thought the pool has more issues than anyone thought. They have a regular pool guy, but brought in an expert pool guy who says there is a part broken on the filtering system.

Of course the part has to be ordered so they will keep up the 20% exchanges on a nightly basis so they can keep the pool open. Water is cheaper than dirt out this way so that’s the most cost effective way to do it.

It was colder today than yesterday. If I had any other options I’d take them, swimming in ice water isn’t a whole lot of fun.

The swim teacher has shared that she has cut her half hour toddler sessions down to twenty minutes so the littles don’t get too cold.

Appendages crossed!

Happy anniversary JtC and hubs!

A little beagle is training me too. She began licking my hand at 0600, so I got up and took both of the pooches out.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP.

Once I get sheveled, I’ll load the dogs up for a dog park trip, provided that it doesn’t begin raining. After that, it will be hang out with them and playing around in the studio,

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Catmom took it.

Harvey’s ashes are in a small, urn-shaped, urn. Creamsicle’s are in a nice little wooden box. Tonka’s box is bigger, and has a frame on the front. I put memorial text on the photo Catmom took not long after we adopted him, and put that into the frame. (We were also given an imprint of his paw.)

Back and ensconced away from the ickies. It was sleety and snowy and a little rainy while we were out, so it’s nice to be in the warm and dry again. Precip seems to have stopped for now, but according to the forecast, it will continue on and off most of the day.

I believe without any more shopping we’ve decided on our new mower - a John Deere X350. The quality is much better than the 100 series (which is what we had) and the 200 series (which is just a little better than the 100 series.) They just happened to have one on the lot so we could see it for reals. It’s a tad bigger than our dead one and it’s got some really impressive upgrades over what we had. Plus this dealer has a maintenance plan where the guy comes to the house after mowing season is over and does all the fluids/filters/blades/etc for a VERY reasonable price. And every year we have it done, it extends the warranty on the mower, eventually out to 10 years. All that and no inconvenience to us!

All that came in for about what we were expecting to pay. I think FCD will be taking the dead mower to Dave so he can use it for parts, then we’ll fetch the new one. I’m almost looking forward to mowage again! Oh, and I looked up our old mower - that model was built in 2006, so we figure we’ve had ours around 17 or 18 years. I’d say we got our money’s worth!

I am so glad Ziva has no interest in the world beyond the house. Taz would occasionally make a dash for freedom, before realizing it was a big, scary world out there. But Ziva doesn’t even seem interested in looking outside, let alone venturing forth. Heck, I don’t think she’s ever gone into the basement! She’s a wuss.

OK, time to decide if I’ll be productive or assume the recline position with clicker in hand. Decisions, decisions…

Good morning all. Up early and went over to the gym to get it ready for indoor soccer (move all the basketball stuff, sweep the floor, and assemble the goals and put tape down to mark boundaries). I don’t coach until 7pm, so have plenty of time to waste.

Did get my taxes done and e-filed this morning, I owe the US Gubmint some money, but most of it will be covered by the refund I get from the State of Ali-bama. At least the thing is done for another year.

A nice day, 63F now heading to the mid-70’s, so might even spend some time outdoors. But rain is expected tonight and temperatures will head downward.

Is it time to call on Johnny Cash? (hint: it is always time to call on Johnny Cash): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK7P4Sgomtw

BBBoo, so happy you have options for reading, I still pretty much use my old dog-eared paperbacks, butone of these days I may join the 21st century; hope the eyes keep improving.

VanGo, appendages crossed that car is cheap but in good condition.

JtC, if the pool stays that cold, you could always show up in one of those old-time bathing suits …https://c8.alamy.com/comp/DY0JJE/women-in-bathing-suits-on-collaroy-beach-1908-photographed-by-colin-DY0JJE.jpg

shoe, glad you are feeling better, even if lemon and a ravaged throat don’t go well together.

I know what you mean.

boo fae, happy that you have enough hair to be frou-frou’ed; I probably have enough for a fro…

FCM, good news on the mower situation, hope this one lasts 17 years (and that you do too). As for the T-shirts, I’ll just keep wearing them until one day I’ll have a burst of energy and replace them all…maybe 2027??

Swampy, give Jim a good sendoff.

And think I’ll mosey over and watch some of the indoor soccer, then go to the gym for some walking and pedaling, then coach later this evening. Take care all.

Some serious snowfall today in the MSP area; several inches on the ground and it’s still coming down. Very purty out there after a very dry winter.

My new laptop arrived late yesterday, so it beat out the storm. I’ve been spending some time getting it set up and getting things transferred. It’s basically an updated version of my old HP Envy. I have to say that it’s been surprisingly easy. I was impressed that the new laptop went looking for any other computer on the same network and transferred my bookmark bar and my website shortcuts to the new Chrome screen. It also transferred a number of apps like my Last Pass passwords and AdBlock. I had to manually transfer documents, but that’s not a problem. Photos could be arduous, though, and I see no way to avoid having to buy another copy of Family Tree Maker software. But. . .sh-i-i-i-i-i-ny! The new one also came with a year subscription to Microsoft 365.

Yep, it always is indeed! Either Jonny Cash or Willie Nelson.

Great song and appropriate for the occasion.

Hello.

And yes, our Johnny too.

It’s a grey and chilly day – we’ve already hit the forecasted high of 34°F – and the off-and-on snow/rain started shortly after I woke up. We’re expecting a wintry mix after lunch, with more rain showers all night and possibly some icing. The moral of this story is that I am not leaving the house today.

Yesterday was payday, so I did my bills this morning. January’s bank statement became available a few days ago, so I also balanced my checkbook…or, at least, I balanced Quicken. And, I just started my laundry: it’s been piling up a little, but I’d been waiting for an Amazon delivery that included new items I want to wash – it arrived about 5 minutes after I started this post. Luckily, everything still fits in one load and that’s chugging away now. Eventually drying and then putting everything away is pretty much my only plan for the rest of the day.

So cute! I hope today’s vet visit has good results. :crossed_fingers:

Bailey was a rescue and no one ever knew her birthdate, but when I adopted her in late October 2008 the vet estimated she was ~3 months old and we agreed on an “official” birthday of July 15th.

Allow me to pile on to the list of compliments…especially about the colors. I always love your color choices!

Before I started working remotely, I’d always put the can out the night before so I wouldn’t have to deal with in the morning (I’ve never been a morning person, and often barely managed to leave the house on time). I don’t remember when, but at some point I realized I could wait; it became easier to do in the morning. The reminder I set for myself still goes off at 8pm the night before, though. Heh. Now the recycling people, they come first thing in the morning: I still have to put that out the night before if I want a pickup.

Do you still have the new job that you just trained for, or did they let you go because they haven’t been able to schedule you? :frowning:

Excellent!! :tada:

I’m still able to fully focus on a show or movie if I’m interested enough, but sometimes I’m in the mood to mostly be on my iPad so I’ll put on shows that I know I can still follow even if I rarely look at them (e.g., new episodes of Chicago Fire, The Rookie, The Voice).

Woo hoo! Didn’t that feel kind of great??

Aww, thanks…and thank you for remembering about their cat, who they had to put down a week ago today. WifeBFF and I both hope she’s up to it tomorrow, too! :crossed_fingers: It’ll be very strange indeed to be in their house with no Duke around. Hopefully their other cat, Dolly – who’s kind of timid and tends to hide but has allowed me to pet her in the past – will make an appearance.

One of my uncles – my dad’s youngest brother, who’s only 12 years older than me – lives in NYC, and from 1995-2005 he organized annual pub crawls in early February (twice it had to move to late January). Each one focused on a different neighborhood. They became huge events: people would travel from all over, and it got to the point where he had to give the bars a heads up about the size of the group that would be coming in on a winter Saturday afternoon. They were tons of fun. Anyway, for the tenth and final year he had t-shirts made: I got mine framed, and 20 years later it still hangs in my house.

I hope the pain pills are effective and that you heal quickly! :crossed_fingers:

Ha! :joy:

New toy!! I’m jealous!

I trained a bit but could not work last week cause of back injury from the fall.
No worries-interview Monday. Its an hour and a half bus ride but hey.

TPTB: “Thanks for coming in on a day off, dogbutler. Go ahead and load all 40 package cars on the 100 Boxline by yourself.”
Me:
And no it didn’t get all done, even after 5 1/2 hours, and pulling in the loaders from the Saturday trucks when they were done. I’m having a medicinal gin&tonic to recover.

:champagne::partying_face::birthday:HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JtC AND HUBS!!!:birthday::partying_face::champagne:

So much for “The Lord willing, and the creek don’t rise”.

Spot likes watching the vermin outside, but if I open the door, he gives me the “that room is filthy, why don’t you clean it up?” look.

On the way to dinner yesterday, Catmom confirmed that Goo was six when we adopted her. (Tonka was eight.) So now the math works, and she’ll be 12 in June.

Out and about on errands. Stopped at pub for lunch and I’m getting a visual migraine. Little flashy bars.

George Harrison just finished with « Set on you ». The Band starting with « Weight Off ».
