(Old) Spot-ify: The MMP That's The Cat's Meow

We had a bit of powdery snow yesterday and overnight. It doesn’t really amount to much, but this isn’t New England or the mountains, so a lot of people don’t know how to drive in it. I’m enjoying watching the wind gusts pick it up and sling it around. We might get a little bit more this morning.

We have no cats at present. It’s a sad situation. We’re not going to get cats until the political situation stabilizes somewhat. We expect our expenses will go up and our RDOS income is fixed.

i got some new clothes recently. today i am wearing new socks, jeans, and unmentionables. feeling happy as they all fit well. the socks as usual are a bit big. one size fits all never fits precisely.

i really have to get going on knitting my own socks. i will have to take another class. i took a class a really long time ago and learned the double needle method. i did one sock. never finished the other. then i did a magic loop class and got half way through 2 socks. le sigh. the one sock was so magical. it was soft and fit just right, i really liked the colour… the building does have a craft club…they could help no doubt. or the nice lady on the shuttle i see knitting.

ugh.

One of those lean staffing days. Only 6 people on the 100. I was doing the Mez and the 300 Slide, which were 60 feet apart. Of course 40 of that was vertical. And as usual, they waited to do Add/Cuts until after the belt system went down. But there was enough clean up to keep me going till 9, so I went and did my Aldi run. I bought eggs.

You had a literal shit show this morning.

Spot, in the world’s worst hot tub:

Kinda why I haven’t gotten another dog. That and spot would probably abuse it.

just checked the local yarn store. signed up for sock class. double needle method. hopefully i will be able to do 2 socks this time.

lager also enjoys sink time. koritza likes to walk around the sink but not sleep in it.

I read that as ‘guests’ and thought of a magical snow fight!

It is so hard to find a perfect pair of socks, isn’t it???

I have to do that either today or tomorrow. I hope you left some there for me!!

Me too! Although in reality, I have gotten quite a few things in order this morning. Amongst those, I finished my first bowl cozy. It’s not exactly perfect, but it’s a good start considering my skill level.

Oh, and, thank you. The laundromat is not a big deal overall. These are just extra bedspreads and sheets, partly ones that MusicMan had with him when he was still driving over the road - speaking of procrastination! I’m hoping that between my mom and us that we can get our own high capacity machine here.

I also have a phone appointment booked with a lawyer later this week to talk about my disability stuff. My biggest hesitation is that they want $$$$ upfront if we go forward after this conversation.

Ok, back to my dilly dallying now that I’ve made some calls.

Happy Monday everyone. I’m home from work again still dealing with the flu. I ran a fever last night and don’t want to take the chance I’m still contagious, so holed up at home. I’ve been trying to call my dentist to reschedule tomorrow morning’s appointment but my call won’t go through. I finally sent them a message through their website, but I’ve never done that before and don’t know how often they check that. I’ll try calling again this afternoon.

piper I can’t even imagine how cold it needs to be to make a house make those noises…

Sticky Buns I concur with the others. If you don’t feel safe, steer clear and don’t feel guilty. It only takes one idiot to kick things off and you don’t want to be caught up in that.

dogbutler Spot looks absolutely adorable. Also, I have the same glasses.

I’m back. I hope. I’m not feeling any better, but I have to learn to live over–or is it under?–the madness. It’s always upsetting when the shinola hits home, and I had a former student who once saw me as a replacement mom–a long story involving low self-esteem, a huge crisis, and abusive parents–contact me because she’s terrified about what could happen to her and her beloved wife. She wanted to know what to do. That’s what threw me.

Back to the mundane…I have to finish another chapter of the family history today. A second cousin twice-removed contacted me through Ancestry wanting stories. I didn’t even know he existed. It’s Monday, so I’ll call my eldest sister, plus I need to get to the gym and the mall and start getting organized for my trip.

We got snow yesterday, big, Norman Rockwell flakes. I heard lots of windshield-scraping this morning. The weather forecast has snowflake icons as far ahead as it goes, but it won’t really amount to much (or too much).

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve had to say that to m–Oh, wait, we’re talking about pets.

I started on our taxes and discovered that I should have done a better job of tracking our medical expenses, especially since both FCD and I had ER treks this year. Luckily, I found a summary at BC/BS, plus all our meds were charged at CVS, so our VISA statements had all that. We might actually have enough this year to itemize. Maybe. Not sure. But I will have a folder for medical crap this year. For realz!!

I does look like I had way too much withheld for the state and maybe not enough for the Feds, but it should be a net positive for us. Maybe. I’ll get back to it shortly. My brain needs a break. It also needs chocolate, but all I’ve got in the house is the last of the hot chocolate pods I’d bought for MIL - I suppose that will have to do.

Goo jumped out of bed at two-fifteen in the ayem, went to the front door, and made some low meows. I jumped out of bed to see what was wrong. She was staring at the door. I opened the blind and looked out. There were kitty footprints in the snow. The cat had come from in front of the trailer next door, crossed our porch and hugged the wall to the corner of the house, and went around the corner. There were other tracks crossing diagonally across the yard. Two sets. I don’t know what kind of animal it was/they were.

Sunny and cold here.

Got a bit more than a dusting of snow overnight; perhaps a half inch. Enough to make the roads a bit slick, but that’s it. Managed to straggle down to exercise, which was fairly vigorous today. Paid the rent, which is always painful.

I’ve noticed that Sadie gives a sort of “Yo, bro” head bob whenever I come in the room. I’ve taken to saying “s’up, yo?” when I see her, because it makes me smile.

I think we’re making butter chicken today. Sauce from a jar, so I just need to cut up a pound of thighs.

Costco tomorrow, I think. Getting low on bulk items like TP, bacon and butter. I hate taking the wife because she likes to wander the aisles and wants to impulse buy things that we can’t possibly store/use in a reasonable amount of time. First world problems.

Here is my current list of Mumper nicknames: it’s still sorted by nickname, because I figure such a list would be the most helpful to a newbie who sees a nickname and has no idea who it’s referring to. Thanks to everyone who has helped build this – especially Kitten Mitten!!

Maybe I can do a post like this at the start of each MMP…? That might be easier/better than getting the FAQ changed every time we get a new Mumper.

Details are hidden so as not to force everyone to scroll past a very long post; click the arrow if you want to see the list.

My “real” post will follow sometime this afternoon…

Well, I sorta achieved my goal. Between overpaying the state and underpaying the feds, the difference is about $39 in our favor. I’ve adjusted the withholding so we’ll see how it goes next year. And after all the futzing around with our various medical expenses, we still didn’t have enough to justify itemizing. Whatevs… it’s done.

I managed to get an appointment with the podiatrist tomorrow morning! Huzzah! I hope she can give me relief. It’s pretty bad when the weight of your sheet and comforter against the toe causes pain.

I’d just amend the FAQ. And thanks for doing this!

I need to rest my brain.

FCM, we had enough medical expenses one year to claim medical. Oy. I didn’t know that only the amount OVER the 7.5% was deductible, and then it’s only a percentage of that that counts. I was cussing like Yosemite Sam. I’m sorry you had to do the work only to find out you didn’t qualify. I’m glad you’re getting a refund, though!

Flyboy, sounds like Goo is a good watchcat and has earned many scritches.

And this made ME smile, so thanks!

Oopsie, that was kind of you to make that very helpful list. I’m with FCM on amending the FAQ. It just seems like too much to ask of you to include it every week.

Me too! It also warms my heart that Sadie has found a loving home where she is cared for and valued. She is quite the beauty.

Good morning, kids! As per @Chefguy’s report, a lovely nasty slushy-sleety day with all the roads a mushy mess. I had to get up crack o’dawn to gussy up and go to a big fancy meeting at the Government Center where I was needed to speak for all of, oh, 8 seconds or so. And you know what? I didn’t mind at all. A couple weeks ago I finally traded in my dearly beloved Camaro for something more sensible. I now drive a Buick Encore, a small SUV with all-wheel drive. I dearly miss my flashy sports cars and I mourn that the era of sexy-car-Nine is over, but… It’s an enormous improvement for my physical safety and mental health. It’s amazing to get somewhere on a snowy day and not be shaky and tense after the drive.

Things are generally going well:

  • I got a used rowing machine for super cheap and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had exercising. My back and neck feel better than they have for a while.
  • I’ve been going out to the goth nightclub in Minneapolis now and then and actually dancing instead of just lurking about, that’s been fun - got some new clothes that I’ve been tinkering with/modifying for that purpose.
  • Junior the Cat is still in remission from his diabetes and is doing great, just got back a clean bill of health from the vet.
  • My tax situation is (hopefully!!!) properly sorted out this year, no more mess from my ex, so I should receive a tax return that clears my lingering IRS debt and then some. (That just leaves student loans, personal loans, auto loan… Eesh.) But…
  • … I’ve been at my new job for a year now! Glowing reviews from my boss and from my employees. I am not out of probationary period and Difficult to Fire, and also received my first raise. Combined with COLA from the union, winds up being about a 7% increase - not too shabby at all.

I think that’s all the news that’s fit to print.

Wow. Lots of us queer folk in that boat these days, but how amazing that you are so loved and trusted. You are clearly someone very special.

That she absolutely is!

Sorry, I am now out of my probationary period and am therefore now difficult to fire.

Glad to hear it!

What else? Yes, a sock-making class is more likely to yield actual socks than doing it on your own.

Life in the US is quite horrifying for Q folks right now.

Maybe “with”? “Alongside”?

Sorry!

My lovely wife does the taxes. That’s why I’m cooking a lot right now.

We had a bit of snow, enough to be fun. Now gusty wind bursts swirling it around.

We went shopping for maple syrup, more coffee, and other staples yesterday. Might hit the cold/frozen section today or tomorrow, but we were in a big box store and too exhausted by all the macaroni and tomato sauce options to continue. Might get some more oranges today–I’m currently dehydrating a few.

Working on my novel. Taking a break for lunch, then back to it.

Next thing you know, you’ll be springing $200 for a steak dinner at Lurcat.

It’s just contraction, caused by the cold. It happens each winter.
