(Old) Summarize your work in the MMP

My Cornhuskers play the national champions Indiana at 11am Central. I’m picking up my Ukrainian refugee friend and taking her to my neighborhood corner bar to watch the game with me and experience a Midwestern college football humble dive bar watch party. We’ll be joined by my cross the street long time neighbor friend and her niece and daughter so us five women will take over the south half of the line of bar stools. The game is so early in the day that people may have to have a raw egg cracked into their beer for breakfast~not me, I’d gag. Red beers will be drunk, I’ll drink a local hard apple cider over lots of ice. It’s served in a pint glass so one lasts me the whole game. Whooping and swearing will no doubt happen and the gang of 5 women will no doubt be the rowdiest in the bar.

My beloved Huskers will get creamed but it’ll be an entertaining display of good football in the process. I’m just hoping that we lose by two scores or less. We’re -7.5 underdogs so my wish might actually happen. Besides, it’s only football.

Yesterday I went to the gym and they did a Bioelectrical impedance analysis. According to that, my left leg is > 12% stronger than my right leg, so I need to do leg extensions and leg curls with each leg, not together. I should probably start doing my leg exercises from previous physical therapy sessions (I’ve twisted my right ankle three times - at 17, 23 and 37) again.

My work today:

  • Cleaned the shower head (hard water is such a joy).
  • Make cinnamon apple oatmeal with raisins for breakfast
  • Went to the grocery store
  • Made the cream cheese filling for cherry cheese pie. Make the crust for cherry cheese pie (from Lotus biscoff cookies, as graham crackers are a special order item). Made the cherry pie filling (from jarred cherries - hubby found a pit, even though they were supposed to be pitted).
  • Made lunch (chicken / couscous / green beans)
  • Assembled green pea soup. Should have been split pea soup, but I bought whole peas, so I soaked them for some hours first. It’s cooking and will be cooking for a while. That’s tomorrow’s lunch.
  • Assembled pie. Ate pie. Wrote a note on the recipe to remind myself next time to buy the store brand fresh cheese, which works better than Philadelphia for the recipe.

Hubby changed the sheets, fixed his dresser drawer, vacuumed, cleaned up some other stuff.

It’s been drizzling for much of the day, so it’s the perfect weather for making progress on a few rainy day tasks. Should go find my resistance band and do some exercises for my ankle.

The mole corpse has been tied up in a plastic bag and put into the bin, along with the nitrile gloves I wore. The trap has been reset. That makes two moles caught in that location, and one in the middle of the yard.

The trash having gone out Monday, only the mole and the gloves are in the bin. Kind of sad-looking. Eventually there will be two bags of garbage on top of them, and then a week from Monday Mr. Mole will be on his way to a landfill.

Feel my envy! I loves her to the moon and back!

I’ve seen Paula Poundstone in person a couple of times - she’s my other favorite!

Fourth load in the washer, one more to go. I decided to go ahead and strip the bed today. The replacement sheets are sitting there waiting, so when the current load is folded, I’ll make the bed. I’m moving on sheer will power - not quite recovered from yesterday.

My upper arms are achy from the way I had to hold the steering wheel. I’m sure part is from tension, too. Lots of stoopit on the road. Plus I’m still not comfortable driving the Santa Fe - I’m not sure I’ve been behind the wheel 20 hours in total since we got it 2 years ago.
I would never have chosen it, but it’s not my wheels. I’m quite happy with my old Sonata.

I picked up a ham steak and a small cabbage this morning - that’ll be the basis for supper. My lunch was the last of the shrimp and broccoli I had for supper last night. I think it’ll take a few days to work past the sugar cravings that AuntB has afflicted me with. But I got some grapes and pineapple - that should help. I hope. I still want a hunk of chocolate cake, dammit.

82F at 1220. Got the AC back on in anticipation of it possibly hitting 90 later today and high 80s tomorrow.

Excitement for the day: the giant package of TP has arrived, as has Sadie’s food.

Cornmeal pancakes for breakfast, which is always a treat.

My stepson and his wife are expecting a boy in a few months. I’m really happy that he got his military obligation done before this Iran bullshit hit the fan. It was bad enough when he was in Afghanistan.

Oh, she’s hilarious!

It’s weirdly warm today (almost 80 F!) and I’m not looking forward to a sweaty, sticky afternoon, but at least I don’t close today OR tomorrow.

Alrighty, time to peel myself upright.

It’s morning somewhere.

Since I’m np longer required to take submarine showers, fifteen minutes is a little on the short side for me.

Don’t applaud – throw money! Notes, please – coins hurt too much.

I’ve just had a shower. I didn’t time it, but it was less than ten minutes.

I usually go 5-10 minutes, unless I just feel like standing under hot water. But that’s rare.

Laundry is done. The bed isn’t made because FCD needs to put his clothes away, but as soon as he’s done, I can finish. And we’ve decided that supper will be forage. Which is good because I’m pooped. It’s been a low energy day.

Milky skies in Philly. Watching storm chasers in South Carolina the bits and pieces are throwing tornadoes around western sc.

Good shopping trip today. The winter/holiday stuff is starting to take over the stores. No music as yet…although I did see a holiday ad on YouTube yesterday.

My showers go from ten to twenty minutes, depending on how much shaving is required.

Howdy Y’all! The rain went away and we actually had some sun this afternoon. We day drank (scurvy and malaria were fought off) out beside the cee-mint pond. I did have to let some water out of the cee-mint pond this mornin’. My very unofficial rain guage says we got just over five inches of rain. The rest of the day was spent in nappage, watchin’ kolledge football off and on as well as some stoopid teevee. Oh, and I did clean and prep the collard greens, so some productivity happened. Now I wait until seven-thirty so I can watch my DAWGS.

JtC hope you get your MMJ card renewed soonest.

Oopsie glad you had one plan you could opt out of. Hope you enjoyed lunch with WifeBFF.

*BBBoo your ‘Huskers almost pulled it off. Nuttin’ to be ashamed of there. I hope your Ukranian refugee friend enjoyed the bar and the game. Rowdy women in a bar always makes for a good time!

Dicey that’s some high productivity there! I need nappage after just readin’ about it all.

FlyBoy RIP mole.

MOOOOOOM ten-fifteen minutes in the shower seems reasonable to me. I want to be clean in as little time as possible. I recognize the importance of hygiene, but want it over ASAP.

Shower length depends on whether I am shaving my legs and which hair conditioning product I am using. It takes a bit to rinse shampoo, and then conditioner out of my hair, too.

And a good, albeit rainy, Saturday afternoon here in N. Ali-bama. No big storms or winds or such, just a steady rain that has been going on all day, so things are nice and soaked without much chance of flooding or damage, so not too bad a situation. Spent much of the afternoon at the gym, watching tackleball while walking on the treadmill so that kept me fairly active. Home now and will start adding calories back on with a big bowl Fettuccine here in a little bit. Only 63F outside so nice and comfy without the AC having to put any work in.

And let’s see how the afternoon has gone for my fellow Mumpers…

Mollie, haven’t been to a comedy show in I don’t know how long. Enjoy it.

Preach it, Brother!!

Oopsie, I just can’t get into TV quite as much as you do, sitting watching it for hours just doesn’t appeal to me anymore, but I’m sure I’m missing a lot of good stuff and am happy to hear about it, just in case one of these days I decide to catch up with y’all…and FWIW I think you picked the best options and knowing your limitations is something a lot of people could benefit from (me included).

BBBoo, watched some of the game from the treadmill, the Huskers played Indiana close, but just couldn’t quite make it. Hope your friend from Ukraine could figure out what was going on, I remember we were hosting a delegation from Kenya (IIRC) interested in buying Army helicopters and they got taken to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball game–which we then spent quite a lot of time explaining to them…

Dicey, with all that work around the house, what do you need a gym for?

Flyboy, happy mole-hunting.

FCM, I’m impressed that you can do that much laundry after your travels yesterday..I’m usually flat on my…beast of burden…the day after that sort of travel.

Cookie, you made me curious so I just looked–and I have 102 rolls in inventory, so I should be good until well into 2027. And conga-rats to stepson on the expectation.

On the shower front, I usually shower at the gym, normal time is 3-4 minutes, more like 7-8 if I shave while showering.

Swampy, on-line says we got a little less than an inch total, but it was spread out over 10-12 hours, so a nice slow soak.

And that’s all for now, need to get that Big Bowl O’Pasta ready here, so off to the kitchen I go. Take care all.

This afternoon, my smoke alarm went off for no reason. I hit it with the broom (it’s up high and that’s how I shut it off), investigated and found nothing burning, then the damn thing went off again. I went through this with the bedroom one shortly after moving in, so I knew that it needed to be replaced. I called the emergency maintenance line for the complex and Julian brought me two new detectors (they never had replaced the one from the bedroom).

Other than that, I messed around in the studio and made maafe (Senegalese peanut butter chicken) for supper to be served over rice with a nice salad to put out the fire some. 'Tis yum!

That looks good!

Decent shift (early out AND long break!) and now Monkey is alternating between howling at me/the door, and making out with my kneecap while purring seductively. Plus occasionally emitting the most plaintive whine, one that would put any tween in their place.

His glowy jacket is charging - a while back he came home still wearing it but pitch black, which kinda defeats the purpose, so I’m trying to get better at remembering to proactively keep it charged up.

Busy for a Saturday, not helped by Screaming O piling extra work on me. And a lot of stuff got wrecked in the belts. I was there until 2:45. Sterling from HazMat left before me. I stopped at Bojangles after work, took a quick shower when I got home, and Spot and I too a quick nap. I foresee an early bedtime after hockey. Having a Vieux Carré and Asian BBQ stirfry.

15 minutes? I can wash clean, dry, dress, and squeegee the shower.

C’mon, the man could write volumes about haw Bob Cratchet got Scrooged over by his employer.

Same here.

talk about better than sex!

Bile that one under great liver puns!

Witch is the proper response.

Looks like a perfect card for :high_heeled_shoe:

It’s a beautiful fall day here in the SE Mitten. Worked 2 hrs and it went very smoothly. Going to Rosary Rally at noon then we’re going to daughter’s to pick her and girlfriend up to go to a cider mill. After which we’ll go back to daughter’s house for dinner (that I’m providing all the foodstuffs for) then a bonfire. So busy day.

Note to self: left off after post 215

Aack, I forgot to hit post when I left at 11:35 this morning. Oh well.

My lovely wife brought me a pint of Häagen-Dazs pistachio ice cream. I’m mostly caught up with time-sensitive tasks I deferred before going to Spain, have entered some writing contests/submitted pieces to publications, and like that. I take a 5-minute shower because I see showers as strictly functional and that’s normally all the time I need. A bath, OTOH, is an hour-long activity.

The afternoon went pretty much to plan as I mentioned above. At the Rosary Rally several of the ladies asked where Bella was, because I had brought her last month. One of the ladies remarked how well behaved she was. As soon as we got to daughter’s house, well first Bella wanted some love, belly rubs, etc then we went for a walk so she could do her business; it was shorter than our normal walks because I wanted to get going to the cider mill. Bella was crated before we left.

The cider mill was packed but we lucked out because as we entered about the third row of cars, someone was pulling out so we barely had to wait more than 2 minutes. Took a brief tour. Daughter’s girlfriend (DG) had never been there. We were disappointed because they were totally cleaning the apple press so DG didn’t get to see how that worked. I bought a dozen donuts, a gallon of cider and a dutch apple pie. We enjoyed the donuts and cider standing at one of the many high tables set about. We used to stop at the cider mill about once a year growing up on our way back from our grandparents’ cottage. They had this cheese that we loved and it was a treat that we only enjoyed once a year; for the life of me I can’t remember the name, will have to ask my sister. Anyway, I checked the cheese cooler and they didn’t have it.

When we returned to daughter’s, Hubs went to the spare bedroom for a nap. We ladies talked, mostly me as I had a list of topics to cover with them. Then we started work on dinner. DG baked the pork loin roll, I scrubbed the sweet potatoes and poked them before putting in oven, and I made the applesauce from scratch. At Kroger I had bought a bag of slightly misshapen or bruised apples and just cut out the few spots that needed it. Used some cinnamon, apple pie spice and a little sugar, and poured a little cider in. It turned out pretty darn good.

Daughter has a smokeless solo stove. She built a fire and we enjoyed it for awhile, made some s’mores. She had bought some s’more marshmallows which are square and thin, perfect shape and thickness for s’mores.

I didn’t want to get home too late so we said our goodbyes and arrived home shortly after 8.

As far as showers go, I’m so glad I live in the Great Lakes State as we have access to tons of water. My showers range from 20 minutes (rare) to 40 minutes; average 30. I do a lot of good thinking in the shower and just love standing in a stream of warm/hot water; very relaxing. One time when I was at the Southern Ruck, I was taken to task by a woman from NC for taking what she considered was a too long shower. That was in January 2008. Then I went to the Southern Ruck again in January 2014. The same woman was there and she asked me “aren’t you the same woman who took a really long shower a number of years ago?” I’m sorry for Southerners who incur significant droughts and can’t experience the luxuriousness of a nice warm/hot shower.
