Wilmington isn’t Down East. Wilmington is Wilmington.
Old L.A. joke: She told me to kiss her where it stinks. So I drove her to Wilmington.
Now I see Swampy, Mollie and taters also prepared bullet-pointed lists; buncha rule followers :
.
Swampy if it gets up to the '90s, you’ll have to get out an oscillating sprinkler and run through it now that the cee-mint pond has been shuttered for the year.
Hey! I married a self described rule follower, an I know what’s good for me.
You’re right, Wilmington isn’t Down East, Blue Hill is.
Weird that I never heard that term for south-east NC in all the time I’ve been there. My Grandparents went to Sanford for retirement, ca 1984, I did grad school in Winston Salem, mid 90s, then a couple years in Wilmington. I do recall hearing about the scary “Lumbies” is that the area?
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 57 degrees Ferret Height(13.889 Centipedes)
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a chance of rain this mornin’, then cloudy the rest of the day with a predicted high of 78. It’s laundry day and I can hardly contain myself. Sup will by NY strips, sallit and cheesey garlic bread cause it’s easy and I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for steak. There will, of course, be the usual RDOS sloth. Oh and I get to attend a Convocation Council Meetin’ at six p.m. via Zoom. I am a delegate to Diocesan Convention next month and this is part of the deal.
Cat_Glove we haven’t Winterized the cee-mint pond yet, but will soon.
MOOOOOOM glad y’all made it safe to Indiana.
BrightTree glad you’re enjoyin’ your visit with the 'rents.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, well, laundry awaits! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 16c/61f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and cloudy. Weather app says “Your moves are fucking weak, Sun. You need to fucking do better than this.”
Bright Tree I hope you’re enjoying your family time, look forward to seeing you back here again!
Dicey welcome to the gym club ![]()
JtC hope you’re feeling better today.
Yesterday was busy and frustrating in equal measure. I got a lot of stuff done at irk but not the stuff that was on my list. I had to go to the petrol station at lunchtime and take 'im indoors with me as the tyre pressure warning light was on again. Turns out the tyres were only a little under where they should have been so I put that right, but the warning light’s still on so I suppose it’s the senser that’s wrong. That can wait!
I logged out of work 1.5hrs later than I should have done, fed the cats and got myself ready to go out. Went to the gym and burned close to 300cals in a Spin class (including a seated sprint at 160rpm, which impressed me!), then home to cool off and have dinner. I also had to empty the bins in the house and haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection.
I went out early to haul the biiiiig bin back to where it lives, fed the cats, had some breakfast and logged into work to see what fresh skip fires had appeared. I’ve been busy all morning, got a few little jobs ticked off my list but none of the bigger jobs yet. I’ve got a meeting with one of my minions this morning, and a team meeting this afternoon to look forward to. Woo and hoo. More gym later!
Posting will be a pain because I just have my tablet, no PC or keyboard. So quoting is not really an option and I don’t want to fight bullets. The only diversion from my usual RDOS was washing windows and screens over 3 days last week.
From door to door was close to 13 hours. Otis was suspicious at home and unhappy when we left him at the kennel. FCD continues to fret about him. The drive alternated between smooth sailing and “why are we just sitting here?” JtC - I waved in all directions when we hit WV since I don’t know exactly where you live - did you notice? Anyway, it was dark when we got here.
Now 48 Ferrets in Avon going to mid-60s. No clue what today holds. No mention of Costco yet… ![]()
Happy Tuesday!
It’s Tuesday, October 6, 2026. 43F outside, and later it’ll be 72F. I’m braced for a massive solar energy spill throughout the day.
Afternoon.
Busy day of slobbing ahead. A little pottering in the garden- my least favourite job, trying to clear out all the weedy maples that run along the fence. As there’s a retaining wall which a full-size tree would damage and they’re literally growing through the fence, they have to come out. It’s a really annoying task and the one thing I actually use herbicide for, as it’s not possible to dig all the roots out and they just resprout otherwise.
It’s fairly sunny and nicely warm in the sun at least. Apparently it was 6C overnight; frost won’t be too far away.
a bright chilly day in philly. i get to wear my nifty spring/autumn duster coat!
realitychuck, new novel??!! must check that out.
Good morning.
It’s 50F, dark, and foggy outside. Once again, we start the day foggy, with afternoon sunshine and clouds and a daytime high of 68F. Not a bad day for autumn.
FCM, I’m glad you arrived at your destination with few issues. Poor Otis probably misses his pack. I start getting side-eye when my dogs see me getting ready to leave the house. They don’t like it.
Bright Tree, I hope you’re enjoying your family visit. Thanks for popping in!
Cat Glove, I guess my format is just a holdover from my career. I’ve also prepared multi-section spreadsheets by item type when I pack for a big trip. Always have; you should have seen my camping spreadsheet! At work, I used a multi-section whiteboard based on what was going on.
Van Go, I’m sorry your back is troubling you. I hope the doc can help you.
I’m thinking of putting on my walking pants after the sun rises and walking through the park to get some steps in. Now that I’m gardening a little less, I’m not getting the exercise I need.
Other than that, it’ll be the usual kitchen tidying, sweeping the floors, etc.
For now, also as usual, another cup of coffee.
Please take care of yourselves.
Hello, everyone!
New baseboards for the kitchen are being installed.
Also, going to the Trump/Paxton rally. No need to discuss it here, there’s a thread in P&E for that. (And, no, I’m not a supporter. But life is for experiences, and I don’t think there will be many chances to do this again.)
Well good morning all. Only slept in to 7am today, have broken fast with a Big Bowl of Frosted Flakes and will shortly get about house-irk, as it has reached the stage even I know it needs to be done. 71F heading to 84F and no rain in sight, so soccer practice will go ahead this evening and gym workout will be shortened. Otherwise just a quiet day in Casa Rat.
Cat Glove, best wishes to daughter and her soon-to-be-wife.
Flyboy, I get a $100 bill now and then when it’s shopping time (and prices these days…), but surprised that so many people want or use Franklin’s that much.
doggio, kinda like my clothes dryer, it works but occasionally squeals in agony…
Happy laundry day, Swampy.
boo fae, 160rpm is impressive–I normally get to about 80rpm on my usual stationary bike and can push it to 110 rpm for a limited time, but 160 is really moving! Hope you can get to the big jobs soon, know what it is like when all the small stuff takes up your time.
FCM, take it easy today, 13 hours on the road will wear you down.
Nut, have fun slobbing.
JohnT, good for the baseboard installation, and your a braver soul than I am to attend that…that…thing…
And onward into the day. Have a good one all.
Good morning. I’ve got my annual physical today. She likes to have blood drawn, so no breakfast or coffee until after.
Glad you made it to Hoosierland OK, Moooooom.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to to KP. Today is doctor day and I hope that the results of the MRI indicate the end of treatment. Keep your appendages crossed.
Today is my dad’s 89th birthday, so I’ll give him a call on the way home from the doctor.
Y’all have a great day!
Back in my younger, poker playing days we called them “Benjies”
![]()
I was unable to sleep last night because I am very upset with what is going on. I cannot believe the candidates that people are voting for that would have been cast totally aside in foregone days.
Happy Birthday to red’s Dad and my sister. Dad’s got 19 years on my sister.
Krogering today so I need to shevel and get going.
Enjoy your day; hope you have good weather at the least.
Brain dead I guess, I meant to say “Benjamins” but at least got the name right…
