(Old) Summer camp in the MMP

Sleep away Camp for girls was a godsend for my household. It really served a niche spot in their lives.

This camp also does family camp and adult camp weekends. Location location location. BYOB FOOD and options lots of options. :canoe::canoe::motor_boat::swimming_woman::prayer_beads:

Yeah, MILs are annoying AF. Last week I had to listen to some stupid story about the clerk overcharging her for a soda at the Dollar General store.

But I digress.

My parents sent my brother and me to sleepaway camp for 4 weeks every year. I loved it. The alternative was just being bored all summer.

We send our kids to day camps most of the summer as well (they are a bit younger than I was when I went to sleepaway camp). Partially to get them out of the house, but also so they aren’t just sitting around by themselves watching TV all summer.

As for an “adult summer camp”, I sort of picture something like the island resort in Club Dread.

Probably the closest thing I experienced to “adult summer camp” might be the Ocean Beach area on Fire Island, NY. Cars aren’t allowed and it’s isolated from the main land so it’s a lot of just walking around getting trashed at this cluster of outdoor beach bars.

I am trying to parse being bored all summer.
My friends and I did not go away to camp and we were never bored. Outdoors, our imagination. Maybe because we didn’t watch tv all day.

but really here’s a big :people_hugging:
Enjoy the peace at the grocery stores tomorrow.

Preach it sister. (may she, my MIL, rest in peace)

that is beautiful hippie

Walked to work roundabout way through subdivision 1.4 miles; walked straight back home .93 mile. Since I haven’t been walking or doing much exercise at all for 5 months, other than working out on the NuStep, I’ve quite out of shape. So, this afternoon was naptime. Took me at least half hour after I woke up to feel truly awake.

Made BLTs for dinner served along with cottage cheese, blood orange sections and kiwi. Watched Caitlyn Clark in her first regular season WNBA game.

That’s about how far it is to ours. Maybe 20 miles. I don’t go often, because I go there for specific things (toilet paper, paper towels, pesto butter salmon, and occasionally a couple of bottles of ‘sauce’). If I go, it’s usually on the way back from PetSmart. Trader Joe’s is a similar distance, but I usually go to TJ’s on Tuesdays because there’s one just a couple of miles from the orifice.

With my knees? Not a chance. I walked six and a quarter miles to the state park and back once. I figured that since I proved I could do it, I didn’t need to do it again. OTOH, the weather’s getting nicer…

Oy. I decided to take the bus so I could get to the PO before it closed. Waited at the stop, climbed on, and three blocks later realized I got onto the one heading east, not west. The westbound one stops across the street, and I’d already missed it. D’oh. Well, OK, I’d just stay on the 47 at the terminal and take it westbound. After the terminal, it kept going east. ??? For some reason, this bus turns into 21. Dammit. By the time I walked back to the terminal, the westbound 47 had already left, and there was no way I’d make it to the PO before closing.

I’m now home again and hot and frazzled, so here are some chilly emoji. :penguin: :ice_cube: And for doggio… :ice_hockey:

I’m going to try to dream that I’m sending each of you a Stradivarius. In my dream, they cost 300,000 Yankee dollars, but I just now looked it up, and they go for $15 MILLION! Holy frick. My subconscious apologizes and said look for yours tonight between 2 and 3 a.m. in whatever dream zone you’re in.

Random question: If you’re home and dry, do you prefer a nice, quiet, gentle rain or a crashy, bangy thunderstorm?

I know what you mean. I lived in a neighborhood crammed with kids, and we were seldom bored. We COULDN’T watch TV because our moms would kick us out: “Get some fresh air! I have to wax the floor!” But that was OK, as we could play Red Light, Green Light, or Mother May I, or Red Rover or Statue Maker, or ride bikes, roller skate, walk to the park, walk the mile to the pool, run through the sprinklers, or go to the mom-and-pop store for popsicles. I thihnk when you have to crate your own fun, you do, and you enjoy it.

Crash, bangy thunderstorm every time.

I napped. It rained. Spot licked my head. I had a Manhattan.

This reminds me of that time I was at Costco..
OW! OW! stop pelting me with coasters!

Good start.

As long as you need.

Rain

For the basics, it’s da bomb.

I went to day camp when I was a Brownie Girl Scout and then started going to sleep away camp when I was old enough. I sold cookies to help pay for my two week camps and was able to pick the ones I wanted. I hated it.

OTOH, I was one of the first girl newspaper carriers to get sent to Europe on the Parade Magazine thing because I was so good at knocking on doors and selling newspaper subscriptions and I loved that, so I guess the early stuff helped.

More weed and start “forgetting” to charge your phone. You don’t need that sort of shit, you are the child and she is the parent. She has NO business blaming you for how she raised you.

The card came from someone who matters, that shit coming from your doesn’t. Eat some chocolate.

Peroxide is one of my favorite cleaning agents for organic messes.

Well, I’m glad. Costco is a great place to shop and has really nice clothes. I’m surprised you haven’t heard about them yet.

Not to mention that the gas prices are great and folks working around the pumps don’t let anyone smoke or put gas cans on the ground to fill up.

You should try them!

Well, yanno, it’s possible you have a good excuse…

Your new piece looks great too.

I’m glad you are feeling well enough to start quilting again, that is a great recovery indicator.

First or second? The second one left me in bed for a day and a half, I hope it is easier for you.

I’m glad you are taking care of your health with everything else that has been happening. You are important.

Is he drinking enough water? This is a serious question, dehydration can cause migraines as well as all sorts of other bad things.

I WANT!!!

Way back when the Wienermobiles first started, Dad got me a ride in one. Wanna guess what they gave us to snack on? LOL!

RL just happened, back when I can.

Some sort of paté?

I’ve been notified that Amazon has processed a refund for my aftershave that came in a leaky bottle. With what was left in the old bottle, plus what was left in the new bottle, I now have a full bottle.

The power went out when I was in Burien today. I suspect, without evidence, that it was due to a mishap during road construction. Came home and had to reset clocks. I was just out in the catio. There was a pop, and the lights went out. Since it was a ‘pop’, I’m guessing a squirrel fried itself on a nearby pole and pupped the fuze. I called PSE, and was told, 'Wow! It looks like there are [over 1,900] customers without power. They said they’re estimating power will be restored around 2300.

It’s only 2047 now. I guess I should disconnect my personal hotspot.

I was hoping that we would have squirrels in our yard but Hubs reminded me that we don’t have trees. Yet.

I wanted squirrels because I thought they would entertain GG, but now that we are moving to the land of above ground utility poles, maybe not so much now.

I’ve been pulling our wall art off the walls and wrapping them up in bubble wrap, but I haven’t taken the hangers down yet. GG spends much time yammering at the hangers because he thinks they are bugs or something and knows that I won’t let him put his feet on the walls.

I’ve been using plastic bags as packing material and remembered that NF friend had boxes and boxes of them in her garage so texted her asking for them. Of course she had gotten tired of looking at them and put them in the garbage last night, but was pretty upset “what was I thinking?” So silly, she had no way to know that I was going to ask for them.

I had forgotten how much the wall stuff damped the noise, it is echoing in here now.

Hubs has moved my move day up to June 4th because he wants to be in our new place when GG gets there. He thinks, and I agree that GG will settle down faster if he gets to spend a few days with both of use before Hubs leaves to finish up in AZ.

I need to figure out a way to get eggs from Chicken Guy to New Friend that doesn’t involve her driving twenty miles after dark. They are good eggs, but he is a single guy and it would be unseemly to have a married woman visit him alone after dark. Her hubs would probably enjoy visiting but CG’s place is a bit of a mess and his hounddawg jumps of people. (she is getting better, but still…)

I’m glad that Nelson likes the treats, @missred. I have another bag for a different friend but haven’t managed to find packing materials for it yet. Moving just sucks, our home is in so much chaos that I have to go out on the back deck just to breathe.

I have been turning the misting system on to help my lungs get used to living somewhere with humidity. My skin as well as the patio plants always appreciate that.

The power’s back on. Must’ve been a fried squirrel. I saw a bucket truck drive by when I was on the phone with PSE… too soon for them to have been called out, so they must’ve just been in the area. Or the truck wasn’t PSE. Either way, we got electricity about five minutes ago.

I’ve reset the coffee maker clock, the coffee maker timer, the stove clock, and the microwave oven clock. Again.

Life is hard when you don’t understand the laws of physics…or zoology…or, well, anything, really.

It’s even harder when the one who took care of that sort of thing just up and died with no warning. He still looks for her, it is pretty sad TBH.

OTOP, we have his travel cage in the living room and he goes in and hangs out at times. I am so hoping our four day drive won’t be horrible.

They entertain spot, so birds/squirrels/buunies should do the trick for GG.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Hoping for an acceptable level of chaos so I can make some bucks.

Yeah, it was always funny when I’d try to take Gordie out in the rain, and when I’d open the door, he look at me like No, open the door to Dry World instead.

Also, judging by the 3 inch long extra thick hair I found on my pillow, Spot is transmogrifying into a porcupine.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 19c/66f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Just think. It could hot and humid as fuck outside. Be grateful that’s it’s fucking not.” I am, indeed, grateful that it’s not hot and humid, although our office is stuffy so we have all the windows open already.

Yes, they do use the spinning thingie with the polish - I can cope with the poking and scraping, but that spinny thing is easily the worst bit.

Sorry to hear you woke up feeling out of sorts, I hope that’s passed now. Great news about the interview, that’s something to look forward to after all the other stuff.

I’d be deleting those unread, and ignoring her until she learns to behave herself. It’s your life, and your choices, something you have to deal with yourself. I’m quite sure my mother was disappointed with a lot of the things I did but she kept that to herself and offered support when it was needed instead.

There’s been a disturbance in the Matrix and I have failed you all. There was No Bin Collection!!! yesterday so the bin is out again today but I am on campus so I will have to rely on 'im indoors keeping an eye on things. Since our domestic rubbish didn’t get collected until Wednesday last week (I thought it was due to Monday being a holiday and the bin crews having to do two collection routes), I’m starting to think the council has changed our collection day and just not told anyone.

My day should hopefully be fairly quiet, I was up ridiculously early so was on campus very early. I’ve had a cuppa and my breakfast in the office, and I’m writing this before I start doing any proper work 'cos I’m not scheduled to start actual work yet. We have a team meeting this morning that should take about 10 minutes to get through, and my lunch date today has been cancelled as my colleague is off sick so I’ll have to catch up with her next week instead.

After irk, I will get a different bus from town as I need to go over to my friend’s house to feed the ferret (they’re away for the week) and at that time of day, it’s easier to get a bus than go home, get the car, sit in stop-start traffic, and generally get frustrated by idiot drivers. I have suggested to 'im indoors that we go to our favourite local pub for a curry tonight too.

I would be very afraid of me playing tetherball without a bra. :melon::melon:

Sign me up for all-night thunderstorms. I miss them.

@LH75 Nice to see you quilting again. And sharing pretty pictures.

Quoted for truth. JtC is wise.

Sending chaos vibes.

Today the electrian came so we have light/power/internet.

Have tp call the painter to do some touch-up work, but I’ll wait until the baseboards get installed.

Train just left Luzern, so I’ll be getting off soon.

Happy Humpday! :dromedary_camel:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 84 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall procure provisions this mornin’. We shall also go to Sonny’s for N.O.L. as it is Hump Day and thus the day they have their bbq pork special durin’ May. Tonight is also book study group over to the church house. I shall supply snackage this evenin’ which I shall procure whilst at the Pubic Sto’. It’s goin’ to be tough to squeeze in sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ today!

Nellie I’m not sure we could come up with the funds for a Stradivarius violin, but maybe we could get you a gold plated kazoo. Also we could probably get you some for real bratwursts instead of finger bratwursts. The Dr. Seuss book we could do as well. Folks on the book of faces know my IRL name. It ain’t Edwin. Do not self diagnose. I have had to make myself stop doin’ that. Also, I am extremely jealous of the Weinermobile socks! I say bein’ a camp counselor counts especially at camps like those. I prefer a gentle rain if it’s sleep time, but love a big crashy bangy tstorm durin’ the day as I can sit out on my back porch and watch.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe is me!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!
