(Old, thankfully.) Just call it pee-pee ‘cause it’s all your’n MMP

Good morning!

It’s 45 degrees, and the light is just breaking. Official sunrise is four minutes from now. The expected high is 79F, and we’ll have sunny skies. It’s my last chance to mow the lawn because rain starts moving in tomorrow, and the upcoming week is expected to be somewhat stormy and wet. It’s rather appropriate weather for the last day of summer (today) and the first day of fall (tomorrow).

nellie, I’m glad there is so much improvement for your knee.

chef, I am sorry there are more problems with the knee. I really hope you and your healthcare providers can get it sorted. It must be so frustrating.

sari, your posts are brighter, and I’m glad things are finally going much better for you.

JtC, on the one hand, I’m so glad the vet doesn’t see anything amiss with the kitty, but on the other hand, I’d want to know what the heck is going on too.

FCM, I’m sorry the fair visit was a bit much for Roxy and the adults, and sorry about BiL. I hope the mess with BiL can get sorted, but I can definitely understand your frustration.

doggio, I hope you hear soon about Harvey.

swampy, I’m glad you seem to feel better. I hope OYKW is also feeling better.

Whew! You all did a bunch of jabberin’ yesterday! I hope I got everyone, but if not, hugs, yays, boos as appropriate.

As has been alluded to at the top of my post, mowage will occur today, and maybe some erranding. I might save the errands for tomorrow or Saturday, though.

I want to get a new work suit or separates and some new shoes this weekend, but I am hesitant to spend extra money because of the Congressional bullshit. Additionally, I’d like to purchase two new hard-sided carry-on suitcases for my upcoming trip to Missouri. I figure my husband and I can each have a carry-on suitcase and a smaller bag to carry some other stuff, and then we don’t have to worry about checking bags. He has to carry his CPAP machine, and there is a strong possibility I will have to carry my work laptop if we’re furloughed. Sorry to those with tender eyes or ears, but it is ridiculous, and 40 years of putting up with it, wears on a soul. And why would I have my work laptop if I’m furloughed? Because I found out yesterday they’ve decided I am mission essential (I approve funding), so if we get called back to work, I need to be able to work from Missouri. Let’s all hope that Congress gets its stuff together and everything will be fine come Monday, 2 October.

In other news, I had my one-on-one with my boss yesterday, and I think it was also my fourth quarter/end-of-year conversation. He appreciated the write-up I sent him and laughingly said he knew it was barely a hundredth of what I did. I laughed and asked if he really wanted me to list everything because that would be a long read. He said no, what I sent was good as it hit the big highlights, and he knows what I am doing to keep our state going. He told me over and over again how thankful he and the SD are to have me as their APD, especially after hearing some of the horror stories from some other states. That’s not to say they’re all bad. Some very, very good people in other states are in my role, and we collaborate. But, some states are struggling. I’m doing my best to ensure my state isn’t one of those, and luckily, I have succeeded.

boofae, I hope you enjoy your day off.

I need to get going with the daily chores. I don’t have much to do because I washed floors yesterday and vacuumed the day before. I may still run the rollsuck at some point this weekend.

Everyone take care, and for those of you in the path of a storm, take special care.

I’ve just placed an order for a couple of mole impalers.

The hard part will be identifying the tunnels so that I can set them.

Too bad that the fair was a bust for everyone but Tobias Mooooom. Enjoy your indoor weekend!

Glad that your knee is making progress nellie. It sounds like you are getting on the way to normal activity.

Yay on the dog park fun sari! Nelson’s dachshund buddy Watson (they’ve moved out of town and don’t get to our dog park often anymore) was always the instigator of the puppy races on the small dog side for us. A tired dog is a good dog.

I hope that they get VBC’s weight loss figured out JtC , and it’s nothing serious. Skritches.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bed stripped, a load of towels / sheets just dinged in the dryer, a load of clothes ready to replace them, KP done, kitchen and bath cleaned. Once I get the sweeping, mopping and vacuuming done, I’ll get a package, some cards and the bills ready for the USPO and stop on the way to grocery shopping, which reminds me, I need to do the menu planning for the week and make a list.

SIL and I have decided on rambling up on the Kentucky border (not really very far from her house) tomorrow. There’s a nice Amish bakery in the area that we will likely stop at and a lot of fruit and veggie stands in the area, so we’ll have ample opportunity to get out of the car.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Yeah, back on antibiotics as of today. They switched me to doxycycline this time around. Got an appointment with the surgeon next week, who will likely try to soothe my frustrations.

Something that made me laugh today: the NYT crossword puzzle had a clue of “brain ______”. Four letters. It couldn’t be, could it? Nah, must be something else. Nope “brain fart” is the answer.

So we had Often Injured Dom doing the dumping, and Shaggy on the bags. Also 2 late Airs(one was Philly). Apparently Panamanian Vice is out injured. Not sure if it was at Brown, at his restaurant job, or something with his legs(poor circulation plus not taking his diabetes meds).

Still no news on Harvey.

To clarify: the antibiotic courses have been purely preventative. The incision has never been infected (knock wood).

Yaay for non-infection. Surgical infections are NOT a laughing matter even a little bit.

I’m just back from my PCP. Who is generally very vax-supportive.

FWIW, her perspective on RSV vax was that for the over-75 set, or over-60 with a chronic problem (e.g. my diabetes), it was a good idea. For the public at large her thinking was “not yet”. Instead let’s run it through a few hundred thousand oldsters first for a year and see whether anything bad happens. If the coast proves clear, then jab everyone.

OTOH, she was all over the COVID vax from git-go, but that’s because COVID was killing massive numbers of ordinary people and RSV is not nearly as big a deal, again except for folks who’re already pneumo-decrepit or immunocompromised.

One doc’s opinion, YMMV. But I will be getting my RSV along with the other seasonal vaxes over the next weeks. Also due for TDAP/DTAP so I’m gonna be a pin cushion for awhile yet. Oh Bother.

Afternoon all (well, it will be afternoon here by the time I finish this). Flu shot went according to schedule, they told me to stay in the store for 15 minutes after, so I did a little shopping, picked up some stuff that is supposed to make your dishwasher less stinky (and truth be told, mine stinks) so when I run it again in a few days we’ll see if it works. May have to go back out, I waited too long on a great Pepsi deal (.99 for 2-liter bottles with a digital coupon) and my usual store was out. After that swimming and sauna and maybe some soccer-watching is in store.

Pilot, thanks for the Info on the RSV, I’m not over 75 (but it’s creeping up on me) and nothing chronic (except an addiction to 5 Guys French Fries), so I’ll pass on it, I think.

red, enjoy the Ramblin’ Saturday.

Do we have to call you Vlad Tepes now?

Taters, positive recognition and praise by one’s bosses is always a good thing…I think… :upside_down_face: Keep on succeeding!!!

OK, onward into the day. Take care all.

Every couple of months I pull the filter screen in the floor of the dishwasher and rinse/dig out any nasty grunge. If that hasn’t been done in a while you’ll probably find something exciting in there. If there are big chunks, that’s your clue that your pre-loading rinse of your dishes isn’t quite up to par.

Then put a small bowl in the upper rack with about 1/4-1/2 cup of ordinary vinegar. Run the dishwasher with that and no soap on the super pots-n-pans ultra-hot ultra-sano cycle.

Negligible effort, negligible cost, and great results. It’s a homemaker’s dream.

Redemption today. Daughter and SIL took the kids today for rides and face painting. From the videos, it appears they had a good time. Tobias crashed as soon as they got home. So yay!

We’ve done the installation at the school, helped BIL put a freeze in all 3 credit agencies, and checked the boat. MIL and BIL went directly from our house to Social Security to put a flag on his account in case someone tries to screw with it. They also went to the credit union and got their expert guidance. All that remains is to contact his health insurer - the caller pretended to be from Aetna, which is what threw him off. Luckily, he wasn’t asked for bank or credit card info, but they did ask for his doctors and other info. So he needs to talk to the insurance company and make sure no one makes claims against his account.

Asshole scammers…

I’ve got the bathtub filled with water for flushing, in case we lose power. Rain is supposed to start tonight and continue all day tomorrow and into Sunday. All it would take would be a few trees falling across wires to screw us up for a while. We have some emergency lights, and now we can flush, so we’re good, I guess. It doesn’t look like there will be exceptionally high winds, so we may be good.

Supper tonight will be wings for FCD and tuna steak for me, Amish corn, and maybe broccoli - we shall see. Till then, I’m going to chill.

We’re very sad here today. Son-in-law’s mother is in the hospital. She’s 101 and a very dear lady, but failing.
The docs are saying 3 weeks, maybe. She’s fooled them before, but we don’t think she will this time.

Anyway, I want to put a couple of things to bed: Our neighbors in Maupin who sold their house sold it about $100,000 below market. I may be misremembering, but I think that’s right. at any rate it was a lot. We don’t know why they did that but now we’re dealing with that, so Wifey, who has been realtor for over 40 years, picked a price she thought we could get for our house. I think we could have asked more due to so few houses being on the market there, but what do I know? Anyway, before we could get it listed, our friends wanted to see it, and said they wanted it, saving us some not inconsiderable commission fees. (Wifey still has to pay her company something, but it’s not that much, comparatively. So we’re saving thousands and decided to share some of those savings with our friends. We’ll still make a nicer profit than we would if we put it on the market. We’re not stupid.
As far as talking to my pharmacist. Not gonna do it. I’ve seldom had good results offering advice and don’t expect to in this case. I think prolly people think I’m being an overbearing know-it-all, and sometimes I am, so nope. I was not properly socialized as a child, and I’m still working on that. I have plenty of empathy, but it doesn’t come across.
It was an isolated case and I shouldn’t have mentioned it.

Wifey has sent the roomba after this room, so I gots to go.

I misread the pre-physical instructions from the doc’s office and thought they were sending me to the lab chain they’ve sent me to before. Nope, they’re sending me to a different one. This one has screwed up billing my insurance in the past, so I’m not wild about them. I’ll have to go tomorrow, as I’ve already broken my fast. Hopefully they can get results to the doc by Thursday.

MetalMouse, another vote for checking the dishwasher filter. I clean mine every time I have to refill the drying agent. (I used to skip the drying agent until I learned the hard way why installers recommend it when you live in a humid climate.) Also, check in the crevices in and around the gaskets. Water likes to hide there, even when you use the heat-dry cycle, so they’re a prime spot for mold/mildew. People think the drying cycle takes care of all the water; it doesn’t, so after you run it, including a vinegar cycle, make sure you open the door and leave it open for a couple of hours. (Yuck, I sound bossy. Sorry about that.)

Taters, I hope all those glowing comments come with a raise. I’d happily earmark some of my tax dollars to have someone competent like you in that role.

cookie, glad there’s no infection, but any ideas on why the incision keeps opening?

swampy, glad you and OYKW are feeling aces today.

According to the medical folks I’ve talked to already, they say it’s the sutures working their way out. Most of them just dissolve, but a few have decided to escape outward, which actually makes some sense, given the location on the shin bone; there’s no meat there between the skin and the bone. Then it comes to a head, much like a nasty zit, only instead of pus, there’s a small pool of blood at the site that wants to escape. I’m hoping that this one will be the last of the herd.

Tonight’s dinner is mac & cheese with a side of hot dogs. Livin’ high on the hog.

Happy Friday!

It’s a nice cool and N.O.S. day, good day for moving stuff.
We need to get as much done as possible today as it is supposed to rain starting tonight and through Thorsday at least. My phone stops with the forecast there.

Messy night last night. My son got off at 1230 and I called a cab for him. I woke up at 2 and he wasn’t home. I called my son and the cab hadn’t arrived yet. I called the cab and the woman was kind of a mess and I didn’t understand what she was saying, just that she was near where my son irks and the police were involved. That got me upset.
She had picked up a passenger before picking up my son. The guy was drunk, threw up in the cab, then jumped out and ran off without paying. She called the police, who caught the guy.
My son finally got home around 230.
It is one of the things that bothers me about her taking multiple passengers at the same time. What if one of them tries to rob her and everybody else in the cab?
However, she is a small cab company, and I totally get that she will make a lot more money by having people share the ride. She is always very nice and cheerful on the phone, and is the only one I found that will go out early in the morning.
My son said she is very nice, but very old and drives really slowly.

My son’s employer is pretty nice about feeding the employees once a month or so. Sometimes it’s a box lunch with a sandwich, chips, and brownie. Other times it’s from the yummy bar-b-que place. Or it could be pizza, or hamburgers and hot dogs off the grill. When it’s hot out, they will have snowball nights. Once everybody has been served, they can go back for seconds, or thirds, and they can bring containers to take food home. It’s a nice little perk, I think.

My son is a good son, JtC. He has his issues and can be a bit lazy at times, but he is very thoughtful and good to me.

FCM, the dog park is just about halfway between this house and my new house. Google directions has me turning one block before the dog park to go to the new house. I take a different route or Echo would die, just die, because we were almost at the park and turned away. She is such a drama queen. Once we get settled, I plan on inviting some park friends over since I have a nice sized yard.

We’re not in the storm’s path, but we’re supposed to get a lot of rain.

I have two doctor appointments on Moonday, one to check my back and one with my PCP. I like my PCP, she is a nice lady, but she gets on my nerves. I know she wants me to improve and is only doing what she does because she is concerned about my health, but sometimes I just want to say, leave me alone for a bit, just let me get my shit together, and then we can work on this.

Thank you Pilot for noticing my posts are getting brighter. I hadn’t noticed.
But yes, I am feeling better.
I’m walking more without depending on the walker. I know I don’t really need it, but it’s like a security blanket. Falling for no reason really shook me.
It’s like when I was riding my horse and learning to jump. If I fell off because of a mistake I made, I could jump right back on and do it right. When I fell off because of equipment failure, it took a long time for me to feel safe again.

We got two truckloads taken over to the house. My son was feeling it though, so we came home and I irked for a bit. We are leaving soon to go back over with another truck load. The chairs have been delivered and I don’t want them to stay outside overnight.
Of course, three pickup loads don’t even make a dent in what we have to move. Everything is piled in the living room for now. We’ll use the rainy days to put stuff away.
We’ll probably take dirty laundry too as my washer here is fading fast.

Congrats Taters on the nice comments from irk.

My C-section incision got infected; it was not pretty. My doctor turned green when he saw it, and asked why I hadn’t called him. I had called him, but he was on vacation and his backup doctor acted like I was just a stupid woman who didn’t know anything. I’m pretty sure some words were exchanged.
I partially blame the insurance company. The doctor wanted to keep me in the hospital for four days, the insurance company would pay for only two. They compromised on three. The incision was not fully closed when the staples were taken out.

Well, time to make the next trip and get the chairs inside.
My son measured the living room windows and I need to order rods and curtains.
We need to measure the other windows too.
I still need to find a dining room table. I found one on the Ashley website, but it’s a bit more than I wanted to spend. There is a similar one on Amazon that is considerably less, but it’s not quite the same. I need to think about it.
My friend told me to try Crate and Barrel. That is a big fat NOPE! They are very expensive and I can find the same thing on Amazon for less.
Then again, it’s a dining table, throw a tablecloth on it and who cares how it looks?

Last night was fun and the music was great, but I wound up sitting at the bar by myself all night. I knew the bartender, but he was swamped. I got an offer from another friend to sit with her closer to the stage, but I prefer the bar area and I thought her husband was coming so I said no…turns out her husband wasn’t there, and for a minute I thought she was going to be alone, but then two mutual friends joined her (one I don’t care for much; I dodged that bullet). I knew another guy sitting nearby, though, and I should have asked to join him. Ah well.

The friend whose show it was paid for my dinner, and also my birthday dessert. I opted for a brownie sundae, which I’d never ordered before and it wound up being way too big! I could only eat half of it, and even that was actually too much. But it was soooo good.

I took Metro for both trips, because Uber wanted $50 to take me back to my car (and Lyft wanted $80!). Getting home wasn’t nearly as bad (i.e., didn’t take nearly as long) as it could have been. And there was the requisite late nite entertainment on the platform, with a very drunk woman screaming at and pushing her boyfriend around. Security was hovering, and I think everyone managed to avoid them. I made sure they weren’t getting on my train – and that even if they did I’d be several cars away – before I boarded.

At the moment I am mildly concerned about Bailey. She had some bad diarrhea yesterday, plus a little the day before, and it seems to have resolved – she ate breakfast and has been fine all day – but just now we were out back and she was suddenly noticeably unsteady. Not falling, but staggering just a little. And it took her a minute to be able to get up the back steps. Sigh. Luckily I’m not going out tonight, so I can keep an eye on her, but I do have a big volunteer event most of the day tomorrow. Hopefully she’ll be walking/moving normally again by bedtime, so I don’t have to worry about her while I’m out.

There is rain in the forecast this evening: I’m hoping to grab the stuff for tomorrow’s event (which is currently in the laundry room) and get the last load of doggy laundry started (cleanup from her GI distress) before it starts. Sometimes having to go outside to access the laundry room gets a little old!

:stuck_out_tongue: !

(but yeah, you’re right)

That’s a nice long life, but even so the end is never easy. :frowning:

Howdy Y’all! Thanks for all the well wishes. We are, indeed, much better today. I even accomplished mowage this mornin’. GO ME! This was followed by nappage and much sloth, lest I start to lose cred. Wouldn’t want that now would we? Nappage, sloth, and day drinkin’ took care of that. Majik intartoobz pizza and sallit have been ingested. Now we be chillin’.

Bumba sorry about SILs mom. However she has had a long and I am sure fulfilled life. I wish peace for her and the family whatever happens.

Oopsie glad you had a good bday time last night. Hope Bailey is doin’ better, poor baby.

sari three truckloads sounds like a good start to me. I got a good giggle out of Echo, the drama queen.

Otters were playing under the deck and catio. One (mom?) popped its face over the edge of the catio to look in.

Otters are quite something.

Getting ready for Ophelia here. New Jersey, as usual will blunt the storm. Trying to decide what to order from the nearby restaurants. I’ve got some chores to do, books to read, shows/movies to watch, cats to cuddle.

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!

I’m glad that you and OYKW are feeling better today swampy.

I’m sorry about your SIL’s mom bumba. I wish the family peace.

I hope that Bailey is feeling better soon oopsie.

The apartment is cleaned, laundry done, package / cards / bills in the mail, bed made and supper et. I decided on what would have been called a cold plate back when I worked at a small town cafe, with the addition of an ear of sweet corn. Now to kick back.

@Bumbazine : Good luck with everything. It sounds like the stress level is up at Casa Bumba.

You could do what I did last time: Forget the paper orders and show up empty handed. So have to reschedule for another morning next week when you could fast. Then get stuck working that day and reschedule again. And finally remember the damned piece of paper on the third try.

Or do like I did today: Plan for a non-fasting draw a bit after lunch, then arrive 10 minutes after they close. Monday I’ll get it done for sure! How come I see Lucy and a football lurking nearby?

Who knew labbing was so hard?

Well, high on the dog at least.

Fall prevention is worth a LOT. Drag the damned thing until it’s an outright hindrance you’re more in danger of tripping over than needing for balance or a place to rest.

As to cheap furniture, these folks are a decent online choice you might not have heard of:

Also the outfit that used to be Overstock.com bought the rights to the name of the dead national chain Bed, Bath, and Beyond. So now that website looks like the old BBB but is really Overstock with mostly their old lines of merchandise:
