(Old) The Apocalyptic MMP

Happy!

Happy Thorsday!

It’s just after midnight, dark and 65 degrees outside.
It has warmed up.

It’s been a bit out of whack around here.
I’ve been getting about three hours sleep a night, then I sleep off and on all day.
I try sleeping on my back, which is what I have read is recommended, but I’m not comfortable that way. I’ll fall asleep but wake up on my side in pain.
My brain is turned to mush.

My son is still sick, still refuses to go to the doctor. He worked last night, took a vacation day for tonight and is calling in sick tomorrow. His supervisor told him he can borrow vacation time if he needs to.
He’s better than he was, even mowed part of the back yard today. It was hard though, because in some places the grass is pretty high.
I got him some ginger candy to see if that will settle his stomach.

My middle finger is exhausted today.
Warm weather brings out the asshole drivers.
I almost got t-boned for the second time in two weeks because of assholes running red lights.

As far as hardwood floors.
I had them in the last house. They are not that easy to keep clean. If the sunlight comes in a certain way every tiny dog hair or speck of dust will sparkle. They were cold in the winter, I got cramps in my toes. Furniture does not stay where you put it. If your furniture is against the wall, it’s not so bad. Every time you sit on the couch it is going to slide a little. Eventually they need to be refinished and that is one hell of a job. They can only be sanded so many times. They also wear down in traffic areas, so bookcases and furniture like that will lean forward as the floor is slightly higher near the walls. It’s especially noticeable in hallways.
I have laminate flooring now. It’s a lot easier to keep clean than hardwood. I still have area rugs though, they are easier on the feet. With three dogs, everything is always dirty though.
Especially Rayleigh. I told him we need to change his name to PigPen.

Damn. It’s another day gone and I don’t know what I did. I was supposed to be preparing lessons for tomorrow, but I think I’ll have to do that this evening.

SenGirl woke up with a massive nosebleed. At least I got all the sheets and pillow cases washed. I wonder if dark brown isn’t a better choice for bed linen.

As we are currently living in an apartment too small for four people, we sleep on futons on the floor. Traditionally, futon are used in tatami mat rooms, but we only have flooring. Unfortunately, moisture forms under the futon mattress and the sheets get mildew. That doesn’t happen as much with tatami.

Looking into it, they sell sunoko, or slatted wood for putting under futon. We have one, and it looks like it helps. We can get several more.

It’’s 5:51am and it’s already been eventful. The upstairs toilet has been acting goofy for awhile. So this morning when it wouldn’t shut off, I poked around. I was extra surprised when I apparently poked too hard and a hose came off and started squirting water everywhere. I got it back on and then woke up poor MusicMan to see if he could figure anything out. Since he was half asleep he basically thought I said that I broke the tank. I didn’t. So now I have to call the plumber in a little while.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and partly N.O.S. Lots of rain, wind, and a couple of tboomers overnight. That’s good sleep weather for me. Today will be a day of high sloth and there is nowhere either of us wants or needs to be. Even sup shall be slothful as it will be leftover chikin enchiladas, rice, and beans from Tuesday. Fartfest to follow.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Good morning.

It’s 42 degrees Fahrenheit and partly cloudy. The expected high temperature is 57 degrees Fahrenheit, and we’ll have cloudy skies. Rain showers are expected to move in around 7:00 p.m.

Hugs to all who miss their pets. They leave such a hole in our hearts. I still look for Polar and call out without thinking about it (which is weird, I know), and I always have that tiny little ache in my heart.

Yes, we have Maisie and Buster, and I love them. They are growing into their personalities and it’s interesting to watch. When Buster “retrieves” (generally socks my husband forgot to pick up), he practically prances. He holds his head and tail high there’s a whole showy attitude in his walk. They’ve started alerting at sounds outside and inside, which means barking. Buster has found his bark and it continues to deepen. Buster goes on high alert. The body is tense, the ears are up and he is ramrod straight.

Sending hugs to the FCM family. That has got to be so hard. It was hard enough going to hospice to visit my MiL; I can’t imagine living with it day in and day out.

Work was long, and I went to bed around 9:15. Of course, I was up at three yesterday and got up at three today, so it’s not like there was a long rest period. My boss talked to the SD about the Admin Assistant position, and she approved. We need National to approve the proposed org chart, and we’ll be on our way. I’ve contacted Classification about developmental Admin Assistant and Management Program Analyst position descriptions. I want to ensure we can bring that FTE in at a grade that doesn’t force them to be on food stamps AND allows for upward mobility. This won’t happen quickly, but we’ve started, which is good.

sticky, I hope you find a plumber fast. Toilet leaks are no joke.

red, I’m glad you finally got your car back.

That’s all I’ve got for now. Take care.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Well, I was up and down all night, because
dogbutler: zzzzzzzzzzzzz
Spot: < LICK LICK LICK LICK >
dogbutler: “Dammit Spot, my head is not a Tootsie Roll Pop!”
It’s supposed to storm most of the day. At some point I shall go to Teeter for Senior Day groceries.

Good luck on the leak, sticky

sari, Son needs to see a doc.

FCM, would Respite come to your house to give you a break? What you’re going through is so stressful!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and cloudy. Weather app says “Oh, Mrs Sun. Please show the fuck up, you fucking twit.” It’s actually sunny out there at the moment, and there’s quite a bit of blue sky so Weather App is just having a paddy.

Sticky Buns I hope you get your leak fixed quickly and with a minimum of fuss!

Taters yay for getting approval for new posts! I hope the process is swift and painless, and you get some useful bodies.

Swampy I am pleased to hear you’re making up for a bit of activity with a full day of High Sloth!

sari your son really does need to see a doc, he’s been unwell for too long not to be a concern now.

doggio after a couple of weeks of regular day drinking, I went to the pub with friends last night and had three pints of soda water with lime, and half a pint of Batham’s Best Bitter. That was quite enough for me, for a change!

Nothing exciting in my day today, I am irking on campus after a short but not too bad night. I think I slept better last night but I was late getting to bed as I was out until about 11pm. Anyway, I’m tired but I’ll survive the day, and 'im indoors is cooking tonight so when I get home, all I need to do is make breakfast for tomorrow and veg on the sofa until he provides me with food. Sounds ideal!

So you were picking thru the dump for towels, blinds, and a stand?? That’s frugal!!
Actually, at our convenience center, I scored some plastic kids’ furniture a couple of times. The attendant there will let people put usable item to one side. I’ve left things there and taken a few.

The alternative would have been a nursing home, and that wasn’t going to happen. In fact, last night she was almost in tears saying “If not for you, I’d be in a nursing home.” As if we could find an available bed around here. I think I’ve mentioned, we fully intended to have one or both of them living with us eventually. But I don’t think we had any idea how it would be. I can’t imagine how I’d be feeling if it was my mom instead. Thankfully she’s still going strong (for 90) and I have 4 siblings much closer to her to shoulder the responsibilities.

I don’t trust lights or turn signals. Too many drivers are oblivious or just plain dangerous. I almost pulled out because a guy was signaling a turn, but something made me wait, and he just zipped right past to the next intersection. Trust no one on the road!! (Didn’t they used to call that driving defensively?)

We need something like this for our berth on the boat. Or maybe a hunk of lattice cut to size?? Thanks for the idea.

I’m not sure how that works - I know FCD and his mom talked to someone from hospice, but didn’t commit to it yet. I think there was a little denial in there. But I need to broach the topic with him again. I truly don’t mind helping her - I know she’d do the same if the situation were reversed - but that doesn’t make it any less trying at times. She’s embarrassed that I have to help her shower and even dress at times, but watching the way she trembles when stepping into or out of the shower, it’s obvious she can’t be in there alone.

For whatever reason, I couldn’t fall asleep last night till after midnight, nor could FCD. Of all things, I was lying in bed wondering how he’d manage if I died. I feel just fine, thanks, so I don’t know why that was rattling around in my head. Mortality is not my favorite thing.

Today: second coat of paint on the panel parts. And I need to get some balloons and a brownie mix for Roxy’s b-day celebration. MIL volunteered to blow up the balloons (it was her suggestion.) I’m not so sure, but she’s mentioned it twice, so I’ll run to the dollar store later for balloons. Food Lion will suffice for the brownie mix. I’ll also get an ice cream cake, but I’ll be doing that the afternoon of…

Can’t believe that little girl is going to be 6!! And she’s already lost her first tooth! It wasn’t that long ago I was getting up at night to rock her so her mom could sleep. And I look at Tobias - he’s not a baby any longer! The space-time continuum is moving them too fast!

All righty, then, almost time to start my day. Happy Thursday!!

Higher cream content, which makes for richer flavor. The downside is that it’s not ideal for using in baking, as I find it doesn’t hold up very well. In biscuits, for instance, you want the butter to remain very cold throughout the mixing process. The Irish butter gets soft at a lower temp. I use regular butter for frying eggs and in cookies and the like. It just holds up better.

Had a great, pain-free night of sleep last night. The cortisone is doing its job, I’m happy to report.

On the cat front, she pooped on the floor again yesterday, which is a setback, but it appears that last night she made an effort to get into her box to do business. She’s still interested in her food, so that’s good.

We’ve cancelled all activities this week so far, as the wife is still having severe pain in her hip area. She sees a doc tomorrow.

Good morning all. Awoke to (you guessed it) rain showers for the fourth consecutive day, so I am already cancelling soccer in my head, it’s supposed to stick around for a couple of hours and then make an encore this afternoon. The dishwasher is running and except for maybe a gym visit, indoors is where I plan to remain. At least the temperature is OK (62F now going to 67F).

There are good points to married life…

Cookie, thanks for the explanation and happy to hear the pain is going away.

FCM, I also find it hard to believe that Roxy is turning 6. Like other MMP’ers I’ve been following her since early on and it doesn’t seem possible…yet time moves ever forward

Taters, best luck on getting that new position established.

Sticky Buns, toilets are often easy to fix (by plumbers) and expensive to repair (by homeowners). Hope your is cheap and easy.

Sensei, that’s interesting regarding futons and the sunoko pallet. Thank you.

Sari, we don’t have many red light runners here, but sometime the ‘right turn on red’ bunch thinks they have the right of way over the ‘left turn on green’ group, which has caused me to use ungentlemanly language on occasion. And yeah, you might have to haul him there, but a Drs. visit for the stubborn son may be required if he doesn’t improve.

Alrighty then, the morning apple has been consumed, will do some additional internetting and then look towards the first meal of the day. And what do you know, the sun just popped out for a few minutes! Take care all.

If we’re allowed to pick our MMP names, I’d go with verwirrt. Lord know my Fach isn’t the only thing I’m confused about.

Things proceed. We had our plumbing stacks replaced last summer, which involved cutting holes in the walls, which we just never got around to fixing. Now they need to be fixed in order to pass the occupancy inspection for the buyer. Shouldn’t be a big deal, but it’s and expense and also just a … thing … you know?

My brain has a tendency to get worked up about details when I’m trying to sleep, so I can’t actually fall asleep. Last night it was the wall patch, along with trying to figure out if everything will fit in the moving pods we’re planning on using. I kept remembering one more big thing that will take up space. First the grandfather clock, then the elliptical, then the patio furniture. And the logistics of moving our piano is giving us fits.

Closing is in four weeks. Very long nap in five weeks.

one thing i looked into when contemplating a long distant move, was private air travel. at the time i had 3 cats. it was rather reasonable, all considered. it was 1k per hour in 2011. much easier getting the furry ones through security with private.

gg is a good boy at the vets! that is really wonderful.

Spot ate a bug. I’m off to Teeter before the storm hits.

Looks like my type of beer. But I still got a couple of days of day drinking left.

“The Freecycle Zone” Every apartment complex has one.

Especially when I am driving, I’d rather have the red light, because I know the other car is coming through regardless.

Feel better, Cookie and wife!

When I was a wee, naive 15-y-o, my driver’s ed instructor asked me, “What does it mean when you see another car’s turn signal blinking?”

Me, confidently: “It means they’re gonna turn!”

D. Ed Instructor: “NOPE! It means their turn signal works.”

Me: … ??

(Didn’t take long for me to understand his lesson. Still think of that moment, frequently.)

That is so wonderful.

Welcome to my world.

I felt that second sentence in my soul.

Oh, you want the “What’s for dinner?” thread. Couple of forums over, go down the main corridor, third door on the left.

Spring has (damply) sprung in western Mitten State. With a vengeance. And, apparently, also with pollen, cuz I woke up completely unable to breathe through my nose, after dreaming that I couldn’t sleep which was an odd thing to wake up ferrealz from.

There are daffodils & narcissus blooming everywhere. Sometimes they pop up in the most random, unexpected spots. Like, no way in hell did some soul actually climb that steep embankment with a trowel just to plant bulbs next to a culvert …

(Daffodils: “And yet, here we are!!”)

I have the side door open and Monkey is still climbing the curtains by my chair.
Neighbors have a cable utility van in their driveway, so the little twerp refuses to go outside but is also bored and has the zoomies.

Maybe he needs to eat a bug.

My grandfather taught me to drive, and frequently told me to not trust turn signals until I saw the other vehicle actually moving. He also told me to assume other drivers are stupid, crazy, and out to get me, so do NOT trust that they’ll obey signals or traffic laws. Smart man.

My mom has the greenest of thumbs - she’ll fling yard waste into her woods (she lives on almost 7 acres) and the next thing you know, there are blossoms among the trees. Of course, it helps that where she lives, the dirt is so rich, unlike the clay crap we have.

Finished painting the backs and insides of the various bits. Last coat will be on the outer surfaces.

The little panel will fit in the bigger box and hold the radio, depth sounder, and nav display. The smaller box will hold a trash can. The big panel will be installed in the flybridge and the two boxes will be mounted to it. They’ll tip out for use. FCD original design.

Time for a little chillage, then I’ll figure out something.

It’s rather obvious to me that it is there for something that whoever designed this home expected to be mounted near the ceiling that would need power.

It reminds me of something I once saw in a very fancy house, in Hope Ranch.  There were niches on the wall, at approximately eye level, with receptacles inside of them.  It was obvious to me that the intent was to be able to hang a painting there, in a lighted frame, and be able to plug the frame in without having visible cords running down the walls to receptacles in the usual positions.

That would have been my thought had I seen it in a home. Perhaps a ceiling fan?

However, this was a room in a Holiday Inn Express. The building had been built for that purpose which is why that outlet really confused me.
