FCM, at least down here in N. Ali-bama, we have 1-2 DG Markets, which carry groceries along with the usual Dollar stuff. The rest remain just plain Dollar General stores as far as I can see.
swampy, a swift settlement to your twuck woes.
shoe, such ambition! I am awed by your work ethic…
{{nellie}}, for whatever funk ails you.
OK, back to internettin’ for an hour or so then need to get ready to coach 10 8-9 year old girls…the Rainbow Canaries as they named themselves.
Swimming and sauna are completed and the scale shows a new low mark (258.6lbs) for my Moanday weigh-in, so slowly but surely it’s heading the right way. Coaching soccer in a couple of hours, then getting the Jersey Mike’s sammich out of the fridge and chowing down tonight. Also got the minimal Monday shopping done, just bananas, tomato, and hamburger buns today.
Mowage is done. Then I ran to Food Lion for some more Diet Cokes on sale. I also stopped at the thrift store and got some shorts and pants for Tobias. At a buck each, they’re almost disposable! And he’s growing so fast, I got 24 month size - with luck they’ll fit in the fall and he won’t grow past them yet.
Chillage shall now ensue. FCD isn’t home yet, so I have quiet to myself. Yay!
Almost forgot - lots of good recipes here - dessert and otherwise…
My dessert these days usually consists of one dark chocolate sea salt caramel after dinner. The ones we get are from Costco and say ‘Sander’s Small Batch Wonders’ on the container. You can find something similar at Krogers, but the Kroger ones are bigger and much more expensive. I say “usually” because when we go to Safeway to get our meds we will sometimes buy half a fruit pie and cut it into 4 pieces to last 2 days.
Before I became deathly allergic to dairy my choices were much more varied. And yes, I know how caramels are made, but I can get away with one. (Gives me gas though. Besides being allergic, I’m also lactose-intolerant, which is different.)
Our recipe for poached eggs is much more elaborate and takes longer, but does include making a cheese sauce.
Not much else happening here today. I think I’ll take a shower and ride my bike for a bit. Maybe burn some trash in the burn barrel.
Wifey has pretty much decided that we can’t buy a new house without selling this one first, so we’ll have to spiff this place up first. Life will get more complicated shortly.
Hope Darci re-appears soon.
Edited to add: I saw that my recipe for chicken tortilla soup is in that recipe collection. I’d like to add that now that hatch chili salsa is widely available these days, a shot of that stuff will do wonders for your soup, if you like that sort of thing. We do.
The washer repairman did his diagnostics. He says the power outlet is shaky. This is a very old house, and the outlet is two-pronged. I have a 3-to-2 adapter on the washer’s plug. He says those can be a little loose. So I’ve bought a new three-prong outlet that I’ll install this afternoon.
As for the dryer casters, the hardware store didn’t have any. Two of the non-castering wheels are tweaked, so I bought two more. Unfortunately, it looks like their screw holes are stripped. I’ll have to go back to the hardware store to get bigger self-tapping screws after work.
Woof, that was a day. First day of install at the museum. Started at 6 am. We had to start that early because we had to bring all our stuff through part of the museum that is open at 10, and they didn’t want us rolling big heavy things past small children. Several tons of things rolled through the bowels of the place, into a freight elevator, through the construction. Nobody mentioned that there are 3, count 'em 3, 1-1/2" tall bumps on the track. Getting biiiig heavy things over bumps like that is not fun.
Then after lunch we got to starting the actual install. It’s a 23’ x 8’ stage with a whole superstructure of schedule 40 pipes to hold lights and stuff. Managed to get the stage put up before everyone got tired. Back at it tomorrow.
To tired to remember everything, except still hoping for good Darci news.
I installed the new socket, and the washer is doing… a cleaning cycle? Just letting it run to make sure it works before putting clothes in.
SWMBO said I should just take the wheels off of the dryer and get some carpet sliders; ‘As long as it’s level and we can move it.’ Sounds good to me. I’m going to log out of work soon, and then I can go to the hardware store.
Is chocolate candy a dessert? Because I used to buy triple layer chocolate/coffee cups from Aunt Diana’s Fudge Shop at Water Tower Place in Chicago. It was shaped like a Reese’s Cup, but it had three layers, dark, milk and white chocolate, with coffee bits sprinkled throughout. Omigoooodddroooollll…
We have supped and finished off the turtle pie. Now it’s Netflix and chill time. Also the biiiiiig trash can has been moved all the way back to where it lives durin’ the week.
pilot, I’m with shady re Patsy Cline. I’ve even covered most of her catalogue when I was in a country band, given that I have a similar vocal range.
What others have said about DG Market Moooooom. In my neck of the woods (~40 miles from DG HQ), there tends to be one or two main DG Markets and a bunch of smaller, non-grocery DGs in an area.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et.
As far as dessert goes, I’m a bit like wet one in that, I haven’t met many desserts that I don’t like. My favorite cake is carrot with cream cheese frosting, fave cookie is oatmeal raisin, favorite pie is my mom’s recipe of chocolate cream, favorite candy dark chocolate with sea salt and fave ice cream is peanut butter cup. About the only sweets that I dislike are red velvet anything (that much food coloring is just nasty) or stuff with shredded coconut (I object to the texture). My lousy pancreas limits partaking too much though.
Don’t have any popcorn, so popcorn shrimp will have to do. 3 different cocktail sauces and a seafood remoulade. Celebratory Manhattan (with the good rye) because of certain events in the news network area. Nicely toasted and mellow.
You have no idea how much better this made me feel. I’d been awake for 4 hours before the sleeping cat got off my lap and I had a short window to fix my all-important .
Did manage to shevel myself and take my friends glasses to get fixed. She lives in assisted living a quick 10 minute drive from me but the shop she got her glasses from was as far away from both of us of us as one could get and still be in the city limits. My real complaint is that it was a lot of driving and none of it was past a quick food joint for me to grab supper, or at least one I wanted to patronize. I grabbed some good bread at the store but forgot peanut butter so I guess toast with PB isn’t going to solve the dinner problem. It’ll have to be toast+something else. Probably cheese. Grilled cheese most likely. Three major food groups-bread, butter and cheese. Missing only coffee and chocolate.
Happy to help. Boo, making you feel better is a bit of a project of mine.
After my little Patsy Cline social faux pax, I’m reluctant to mention this, but …
You outweigh the cat by 10 to 20x. It will bloody well adapt to you rearranging your lap to be vertical in pursuit of coffee, a potty break, sustenance, or merely for the carnivore-based joy of imposing your will on a lesser creature. Have no doubt that were the sizes reversed the cat would have no qualms about doing the same to you. Shortly before eating you alive.
As a kid my family had cats and dogs and rabbits, although never more than one such critter at a time. I like critters fine, and not merely for lunch. But they exist at and for my pleasure, not vice versa.
You may find that greater respect for yourself, and less for the cat produces a better human / cat balance in your household. All in the service of making you feel better.
Good Morning! Your new digs are pretty far north and rather rural IIRC. Did you happen to try to watch the aurora last night? It might still be going on during your upcoming tonight as well.
Life here is eventful, as our 300+ posts last week and 55 so far today indicate. Mundane, but eventful nevertheless.
Up from naptime. Someone thought they saw Darci at teh shelter, but it was a false alarm. I’m having an Old Fashioned. I usually go for savory for dessert(nuts, popcorn), but i do like ice cream and cheesecake.
Tomorrow is Manhattan night.
One of Us! One of Us! One of Us!
Which doesn’t help when your dog slips out of the collar.
Glad Echo behaved herself at the park.(I’m watching a Magnum, P.I. episode involving a dog park murder).
Peach pie. Cherry pie. Fruitcake. Spice cake or carrot cake, with cream cheese icing.
Bought a new dishwasher yesterday, the old one having died a few weeks back. They’re supposed to call today or tomorrow to arrange a delivery time, but haven’t yet. Hand-washing dishes is really hard on my back…
Anybody see the auora last night? We had a nice clear sky, but there’s too much light pollution here. I did get to see the aurora one night in Scotland. The officer of the deck announced that there was a lovely display in progress, and reminded us that no one was supposed to be out on the weather decks after dark. (Ha!) Wonder how many others went out to see it.
Neighbour’s cat (Nandi’s mother) had kittens under out rabbit hutch a week or so ago. Fortunately they seem to have survived all the rain over the weekend. We’ve been feeding her there under the hutch to cut down on the amount of time she has to leave them alone.
Lots of onions coming up. The peas, beans, and radishes are also beginning to show. Pumpkins, yellow and green summer squash, lettuce, assorted herbs, and peppers (jalapenos and cayennes) have yet to make an appearance, and we still have a few more things – catnip, tomatoes, bell peppers, and serranos – to finish planting this week.
