(Old) The Joy of Brain Farts in the MMP

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TATERS!!! (First!!). By the time you hit 70 you’ll just be groaning that you have to reply to all the well-wishers on Facebook (or whatever we will be using in a decade or so).

Swampy, now you have me wanting to go over to the Eggs Up Grill near me. We’ll see.

Boo Fae, enjoy the night out.

Sunny, ok, per your wish, I won’t worry about you…still will care, however…

JtC, you’re probably right and I need to make the place nest-proof, but I kinda like watching them and get very few callers at my front door, so I think I’ll let them try again and come the fall, put some kind of wire mesh/slanted wood up there.

Now wasps…they will not abide.

Real Fish, been there, lost that document. And hang out when you can with friends, but you know life will get in the way sometimes.

Thinking about mowage today if the weather holds, there is a good chance of rain Sattiday so it still might be wet on Sunday, we’ll see how much ambition I have. Nothing much else on the agenda, so all y’all have a good Firday.

OK, onward into

Back, not quite bled dry, but she did take 3 tubes…

Not a problem - I tend to drink a good bit of water. The morning issue is my habit of grabbing a Diet Coke to start the day. But I remembered today, so go me!

I know the feeling. We were briefly millionaires. Very briefly, before raiding the CD to buy the boat. Our money guy put us in a couple of annuities that have a minimum value that they won’t fall below, and that minimum resets every year according to what we’ve earned. I think that saved our butts more than we’d have expected. It’s a good, conservative way to protect our retirement. Not high earning, but good enough to maintain our chosen lifestyle.

I’ve decided I’m not going to bother with the choir reunion, and I told my one friend not to expect me there. I can’t see 4+ hours of driving to spend maybe 2 hours with a bunch of people I knew more than 50 years ago and haven’t seen or heard from since. Besides, there will be boat cleaning to do!!

FCD is at the boat yard, finishing with organizing the wiring in the engine room. He said we will be in the water next week, so I foresee Memorial Day weekend spend scrubbing and waxing and all that good stuff. Woohoo!! It’ll be nice to be back in our slip - wonder if our neighbors from last year will be there?

I’ve told my daughter I’ll take her kids on Sunday afternoon so she can get caught up at work - the recent drama put her behind on a bunch of end-of-year tasks. We’ll go to the marine museum for a while, then I’ll bring them back here and Daughter will join us for supper. Normally her MIL takes the kids on Sundays, but her mother had a stroke so she’s in Alabama helping out.

Meanwhile, I’m finishing a late breakfast and caffeination, waiting for it to warm a bit before I get to mowing. Push mowing first, then ol’ John will be fired up. Then if I’m not too worn out, I’ll set up the new sandbox for the kids. We’ll see how my energy holds out. I need to save something for tomorrow’s move.

HAPPY TATERS DAY!!!

And a Happy FIrday to the rest of you reprobates! :kissing_closed_eyes:

Door County, Wisconsin is on the chopping block for vacation in a couple of weeks. I remember when I went last year that there were a lot of pride flags up for Pride Month, so I’m very excited to see that again. In August I’m also going to Wisconsin Dells.

:astonished: I have been remiss! :astonished:

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

G’morning, kids! Cold and drizzly up here today, which is honestly so much better than smoke-choked and muggy - the rain seems to have done a decent job of cleaning out the air. I left my windows cracked when I left for work, so my apartment should be cool and fresh when I get home. On Monday (I think) right before the thunderstorms blew in I left my bedroom window open. Come bedtime, the whole room smelled of petrichor. It was magic.

My mom’s insistence on paying for things during her visit put me very slightly ahead of the game cash-wise for the month. Not enough to like, you know, substantially change my financial precarity, but enough to buy myself a used Nintendo Switch on eBay! I haven’t actually owned a video game console since the SNES I had when I was like five or six, I’ve always been mainly a PC person. But A: it’s not looking like I’ll be able to afford upgrades any time soon, and B: my wrists are starting to bother me where they rest on my desk. The Switch was way cheaper than new PC parts would be, and you use the controller in a much more natural wrist position, so… Yeah! It is in amazing shape and came with loads of neat extra accessories and stuff, all for under $200. Either someone had a big emergency and needed cash ASAP, or some kid got in really big trouble…

Happy birthday to Taters, and many happy returns! (What the heck does “many happy returns” mean, anyway? I’ve always said it and never known why. Like “return on investment?” A benign sentiment, but hardly a festive one.)

I don’t often check in here over the weekend - which band would that be?

It’s a rock band called Tyketto - I’ve been a fan for a little over 30 years, and have followed the singer’s career for longer than that. (Link is to the last song they performed last weekend).

Happy Taters Day I saw it on the Book of Faces and remembered to come in here too  I hope you enjoy the day, whatever you decide to do by way of celebrations.

I have never had a pedicure. I kind of think I’d like to, but then again…feet :frowning:

There are only three of us in the office today, I think we’ve collectively hit an afternoon slump. I’m pottering through some bits and pieces, one person’s watching LinkedIn Learning vids, and the other one’s nipped out for a haircut at the campus salon. Sun’s shining, there’s less than 1.5hrs until we shut the office and go home!

Q’itih Alarm had me up early as usual. The usual scritch fest ensued, with some brushing of fur. I bought a Furminator brush after some research. She loves it, and it really works well. They make them for dogs, also.

After years of making inconsistent hashbrowns, I’ve finally figured out the best method for crispy, non-soggy taters. I used to go through the hassle of squeezing out excess moisture by wrapping them in a dish towel and wringing them. Mixed results. Today I spotted my potato ricer languishing in a drawer and thought “why not?” Peel, shred raw taters, put a handful in the ricer and apply pressure, water expelled. You can generate a lot of pressure with a ricer, so it works a treat for this. The hashbrowns were crispy and held up to the eggs. Huzzah!

Off to exercise class, which seems to really be helping with the knee pain and is needed for prehab for the impending knee replacement. Have a good day, all.

Happy birthday taters!

I usually shred potatoes for hashbrowns (sweet potatoes too) on a dish towel cookie, then roll them up while I fry bacon (makes for tastier skillet lube). I don’t own a potato ricer, but I can see where that would work too.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer and clothes in the wash. Fixing to do KP and houseirk before buying groceries. Typical Firday.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Only enough time to skim (sorry), so…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! and BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Now back to irk.

Happy birthday, Taters!

BooFae, what kind of school are you working at?

Up at 0915, gave Angel her morning glop, fed the other cats, and finished my coffee. Now I’m trying to work up enough energy to get dressed and go out – two library books to return, one ready to be picked up, and kitty litter to buy. That will wait until after Lady SCAdian gets back fom yoga/tai chi (whichever it is today) and we’ve had breakfast. Do need to go out and water the tomatoes, and give Fluff another scoop of food. Other than that, not much to do.

I’ve done that in the past, but this method really works better. I also use bacon drippings for frying and add a small amount of butter that aids in the crisping.

You know, services like Instacart or DoorDash could help you with that.

Happy Friyay, all! And happy birthday, Taters!

Thank you all for the hugs. We’re just putting one foot in front of the other for the next week. Though CtE is once again home because of a breakdown. That makes three days this week alone. I’ve got to figure something out before next year.

Right now, I’m sitting at BtY’s middle school, waiting for Project Lit to start. I’m really looking forward to talking with the kids about this book (The Magic Fish). I’ve been chatting with the librarian as we get things set up. I can’t wait to see what we’ll read next year!

My bleached hair looks… a bit better. I just need to go blue and cover the green that wouldn’t disappear. I’m hoping that tonight I can get the color in and then maybe, just maybe, I’ll be brave enough to post some pics.

Project Lit is getting ready to start so I’m off. Have a great Friday, all!

I had one once - Daughter wanted Mother-Daughter time. I wasn’t impressed with the pedi. Part of the process was getting a calf massage, but that was rather painful. I think it’s because my lower legs are kinda sensitive to pressure. Then the polish I picked must have been old - it never dried. As soon as I got home, I took it off. Never wanted a pedi again. Daughter loves 'em. As for me - meh.

MIL is looking forward to joining the classes at her new apt. She used to do lots of yard work in FL, but since moving here, she’s had very limited activity and she’s noticed a loss of stamina. I hope the classes help her.

I’ve not looked into it, but I doubt anyone delivers here in the boonies, or if they do, the fee will be stoopit. There’s a Dollar General just 3 miles down the road, but I was too lazy to drive there…

Mowage (push and riding) and whacking is done. The yard looks less awful. It’s clouding over - we were promised rain this evening, but maybe it’ll show up early. Taking a break before I go tidy the basement. Since we’ll need room for the dining set, 2 recliners, and a love seat, the floor needs to be clear. And I need to decide where everything goes.

I may also roll-suck upstairs. Or not. Who knows…

They absolutely will, but it takes time to get things to where they used to be, so persistence is key.

How very sweet!

Happy Birthday Taters!

Well…in that case, put a mirror up behind the nest so you can stand inside and look into the nest from your window!

I don’t like to spray wasp nests with poison because we need our pollinators. The wasps go to sleep when it gets dark, so it’s an easy thing to knock the nests down then and sleeping wasps don’t wake up fast so they will figure out that they have been displaced in the morning.

The older we get, the longer habits are established. Good job, go you!

We bought one for Steve and don’t know how we lived without one. One would think cats wouldn’t like that hard metal, but one would be so very wrong!

My BFF paid DoorDash to bring her a pizza on her birthday once. 25 for the pizza, 45 DoorDash fee and a 10 dollar tip. She doesn’t think she will do it again.

Basement is ready for the additional furniture - rollsuckage complete down there and upstairs. I think I’ve earned some recliner time… at least till the washer is done and I have to run back downstairs to toss the sheets into the dryer.

It never ends, does it?

Busy morning. We have a member who wants to report their accounts receivable. Got the required documents, signed them, scanned them, and got them submitted to Big Multinational Credit Company.

Another member wants us to clean up his credit report. I submitted a request to Big Multinational Credit Company to merge four BINs (Business Identification Numbers), update company details, and to remove legal filings. The legal filings had supporting documents from various Superior Courts/Supreme Courts, and the IRS that needed to be submitted as evidence.

Got another report correction to do, which means gathering supporting documents and evidence for merging BINs.

Weird waking up without The Missus in the house. I think the cats are missing her, because they seem a little needy. I had to clean the litter boxes this morning. That’s Cat Mom’s job. I also had to turn on the sprinkler on the new lawn without being reminded. I had a nasty bowl of Bachelor Chow for dinner last night: Ground beef, broccoli, salt, pepper (lots), garlic powder, mayonnaise, and Sriracha. It was delicious. Bologna sandwich and psyllium husks for breakfast. I’ll go for a walk in an hour, then think about lunch. There’s a ¼ pound of ground beef in the fridge, so I might make myself a sandwich. Irish sausages for dinner are tempting, but I’ve pulled some wild-caught salmon out of the freezer so I think I’ll bake them with pesto butter.

I’m hoping to get to the hardware store after irk.

I have closed and locked the building storage unit. Yes, jtc, I do believe it was very productive.

I just have one last box to go through… and of course, just as I type this I realized I forgot to take the box of recycling out of the room. Le sigh. Ah well, that will be another day.

Now I am in my chair, chocolate will be consumed, and a bit of tv watched.
