(Old) The Joy of Brain Farts in the MMP

I don’t think I could do 1100 to 1300. Not because of hunger but I simply like to eat. At 1500 I don’t get hungry and I can occasionally have a single cookie, or something like that. This morning my A1C was as low as it has ever been, only once before has it been at that level. See, I’m OCD on numbers and formulas, and I have kept a record, since the first day, of my morning count and made a least-squares slope for it. It’s been a negative slope line since the beginning of course that’s gradually got less steep as time progresses, and the formula has a higher lever of accuracy. I have been doing this for eighty-eight daysnow, about three months, and I look forward to another three months when I can have another blood test and hopefully be below 6.8, which is what I am shooting for.

Geez, I’ve pushed my button talking about numbers and graphs.

I hope she has a great time and learns a lot! Your day sounds wonderful, I hope you both enjoy.

INDEED!

I love the way it shimmers, very nice.

Very Bad Cat, but yeah…she is a bit of a chonk. She is super smart and can figure out how to get into stuff that we thought well hidden. Before Gormless George, she would entertain herself by dragging towels and rugs all over the place and yelling at them. I have no doubt she could open the French doors if she had a mind to, but happily she came to us as a stray and doesn’t really want to be homeless and hungry again.

Fingers crossed that she comes home soon. I really hope you can find her.

Can she have them in the back yard where nobody will see them but her? They don’t grow that fast, do they?

It always feels good to get a big project finished, congrats!

Today we went to a little farmer’s market and I met a lady who has a freeze-dryer of her own. I’m glad I became unemployed before I spent the money to buy one cause I’d have to sell a whole lot of dehydrated yogurt snacks to pay for it.

I bought a freeze-dried mushroom, cheese and onion omelet but passed on the bread, I bought a loaf last year and wasn’t really impressed, mostly because I’m not a big fan of soft, white bread.

After that we went to the grand opening of a consignment store featuring hand-made items. The owner said she had 30 vendors and a waiting list for when she has more room in her store. There was some really nice stuff mixed in with the kitschy things. I have been needing a new wallet and found one that would have been perfect if not for the 75 dollar price tag.

I also noticed that the tree in the parking lot was a fruiting mulberry and was able to show hubs what we would have in a few years. The new shop owner was less than pleased when she overheard us because people would be walking under the tree to get to her door and they will track smooshed berries inside.

When we got home I fried up the omelet for lunch and we were both really surprised by how good it was cause we both remember having dried eggs as kids and not being at all impressed with them. We’ll probably pick some more up to have in the pantry, we like to be well supplied.

Afternoon all. Refereeing and coaching are done for another season, now get a couple months off before the Fall sessions start in August. Rain fell on and off, I got lucky the first two games (the 8:15am was dry, and the 11am started just after the downpour ended) but the 1pm game had rain for all 60 minutes, then the sun came out just as I was walking to my car and it’s bright and N.O.S. outside now. You just never know…

And yes, my beard got colored, along with my Mustache, and I’ll get the pics up on the Book of Faces sometime. A number of girls didn’t make it due to the rain, so I might offer them the chance Monday to come out and try their luck. That is, if the stuff washes off as quickly as it says it will…

Cupcakes, you know what is best for you and your health. I try to be aware of my calories and am drinking diet soda now, which reduced my intake by maybe 2000-2500 calories per week, so that has helped. Hope the numbers are good for you on the next checkup.

FCM, rest up, I think you two have earned it. Love the bouncing grandkids on Facebook.

Never had a pedicure, to the best of my knowledge. I remember in Singapore many years ago that they had a lot of places for foot massages (reflexology) and I somewhat regret I never tried it (seems like a legit business, Singapore doesn’t do nasty stuff–at least not out in the open).

Flyboy, she’ll be home before you know it.

Cookie, hope the plants do well.

Very Bad Cat. You’ll have to ask JtC why the cat is Bad.

Taters, sounds like ti was a fun day out for your birthday. Have a safe trip.

Pilot, love the sign; don’t have a garden area, but if I did I would need a sign like that.

OK, need to hit the shower and get the beard back to it’s normal salt-n-pepper hue. Keep on keepin’ on, y’all.

You know, it just occurred to me I haven’t had regular soda since I started dieting. Thanks for the good wishes.

I want to see that beard.

oh I so hope you can find her.

If not, there’s something wrong with whoever put together that list. Love lilacs: lavender, deep purple, violet, French white, etc.
Like John Lewis said “Make good trouble”

Hubs was walking around almost like normal this morning; whatever they injected before his bone marrow biopsy yesterday worked well and hasn’t worn off yet. Went to work and when I returned, he was using the cane again. Have just been doping this afternoon and watching DVR’d figure skating - the ice dance World Championship. Might go take a nap now.

Howdy Y’all! Mowage got achieved followed by a celebratory beerverage on the back porch, then nappage. We have supped and are now in Sattidy evenin’ chill mode. Such it is in swampland.

Here’s more hoping for finding Darci!

Good afternoon, all! It’s been a semi- busy day. I took BtY to get a shirt for his graduation/transition/ whatever. We found a blue western style shirt sleeve shirt that he agreed would be ok. Though he wants to wear his hoodie under it. I don’t know about this kid!

I had asked the kids to help with house cleaning. Originally, I wanted them to work on the living room and dining room. I did all that cleaning myself. I’ve asked them to work on their bathroom and hallway. I suspect it won’t be done either. But at the moment, I can’t do anything more. My back has been spasming and has told me to that sitting on the porch was the better option.

Tomorrow I’m working on cleaning up my bedroom and bathroom. Hubby has been working on the kitchen so hopefully we’ll have everything done before our company comes tomorrow.

If nothing else, I can at least be proud of what I’ve gotten done.

Someday y’all got to come here and have a sup and beverage.

Let the games begin!!! The stupid wooden ducks have come home. They started out on the dining room table, where I do not want them. So I put them on FCD’s night stand. He moved one to my night stand. I moved it back. He moved them to the kitchen. At the moment, they’re on top of his car. What next???
I just finished bagging sketty sauce for the freezer - 6 bags, plus one container that’s in the fridge. And I found a ring of fresh Polish sausage in the freezer, which will be cooked up tomorrow, along with some hot dogs, assuming the kids won’t want sausage. Still deciding on the sides.

OK, back to my recliner!

FCM. James Veitch’s the bit with the ducks may inspire you. The duck bit starts at 1:20. The Bit with the Ducks (James Veitch is a terrible roommate) - YouTube

Perhaps they will fly away. A short phone call to your nearest neighbor who owes you a favor may be just the thing to give the flock a fright to take wing.

Started as a slothful day here, then around noonish Her Ladyship’s daughter called. The foster agency had arranged a mass-gaggle party for all the kids in all the foster houses so that all the house parents could have a kid-free afternoon for whatever. Daughter wanted us to meet her at a mall near her for some shopping & early dinner.

Sure! Off we go. A fine time was had together, adult conversation ensued, some cute shopping was accomplished, and we enjoyed a pleasant dinner at a surprisingly nice restaurant at the mall. Immediately after which she dashed off to retrieve her Horde while we drove back home. I’m a bit of a 5th (3rd?) wheel once they get the mother/daughter thing going, but that’s to be expected and I don’t mind. It’s good to see them having fun together. I mostly nod, smile, carry, and pay. Easy work.

Chillage in the silence now as the sun gets low in the West on another lovely day in paradise.

FCM. I want to eat at your place too. To all Dopers out there, if I ever can come eat your cooking I’ll do the dishes.

I hope that you spot and retrieve Darci walking the other way doggio. Appendages crossed.

I had a nice lunch with the friends from Indiana. I went to school with the late sister / daughter / aunt of three of them and the fourth was someone I’d not met before today. She and I did find out that she knew some of my cousins though.

My desk chair in the studio is pretty much kaput (I’m using a different one that I’d put aside as not very comfortable), so I’m shopping for another. I’m thinking that Marketplace may have a higher end one than is affordable retail. If not, I’ll go to Staples to shop. I hate putting those !@#$ing things together though. That’s one of the attractive things about buying secondhand. :stuck_out_tongue:

Before I’m ready!

I started on the table today. I gave up on an exact reproduction, and am going with ‘inspired by’. I went to the hardware store for the wood. Since it’s not exact, I’m not bevelling the ends. Which means they could just cut the slats and face boards to length. Which they did. When I got home and unloaded, I got out the chop saw and cut the pieces to length. Since Mrs. L.A. will probably put some heavy stuff on the table, I’m adding a third crosspiece. The table is kept from sagging by the mortise-and-tenon joints on the face boards. An extra support in the middle won’t hurt.

I’ve made the three crosspieces. I used a hand saw to cut the tenons. I think it was the third one when I congratulated myself on not spilling any blood on this project. Three seconds later the saw slipped and I cut my finger. Of course.

I’m still experimenting on the mortise, but I’ve quit for the day.

Hooray for hand saws, not power saws.

All DIY projects require a blood sacrifice. All of them. Or at least all of mine did. With luck you can get by with only one blood sacrifice.

This is a truism.

Up from nap, watching hockey and having a Vieux Carré(although if this game goes 4 overtimes again, I may have wished for a triple espresso martini instead). I’m printing out more flyers I can put around that neighborhood, and will be doing a long walk tomorrow(it should be quieter, so maybe Darci will show her bat ears).

.

Even painting?

Those bottle-opener thingies you pry open paint cans with are sharper than you might expect. The thin stiff plastic edge of a roller tray liner gives a mongo-scale paper cut if you look at it funny. You can always nick some skin maneuvering a ladder. I’ve done all of these things.

I was a decent DIYer back in the day, but never did enough manual labor to build strong thick skin. My bro is a professional construction dude. Has been for 45 years. He’s much less likely to use something sharp on his skin by accident and even when he does it’s far less likely to penetrate his very stout hide. My soft office-dude hands OTOH …

There’s not painting without PAIN.

Pain often includes blood.
