(Old) The Joy of Brain Farts in the MMP

Mornin’ all. Happy anniversaries and a belated happy birthday to Taters.

51 years! Hooray!! and {{hugs}} to you both. I wish I had a chance at that, but 'twas not to be. Got 33 wonderful years with wife #1 though, which is more than many can say in either quality or quantity, much less both. Wife #2 and I both come from long-lived stock, so 20 years with her seems likely & 30 is statistically unlikely, but isn’t crazy talk.

I’m now balconating in the warmth about 45 minutes after sunrise. The Saturday traffic is less quantity and fewer pickup trucks with noisy tires in a big hurry to get to work; so overall midly irritating, not actively vexatious. The various birds are chirping & cooing, the sun sparkles on the ocean, and a few tropical puffy clouds complete the postcard scene. Weather people say it’s 77F/26C on the way to 88F/31C later. We’re definitely into the warm & comfortably humid part of the year, with hot plus happily sticky coming soon.

Been a lazy couple of days around here and promises to be the same over the weekend while I troll ineffectually for overtime. Ref FCM’s exhausting post just above, it’s amazing how few chores and obligations one has with no children, elders, pets, yards, machinery maintenance hobbies, nor friends. Eat, sleep, and floozie are about all that needs doin’. Did I mention floozie?

Plus MMPing of course. Cheers all and have the best day possible. Y’all deserve it. Sending warm & calm your way.

Thank you all for the congratulations.

Our day is pretty busy. She has a Tucker Ruler class this morning. Tucker Rulers are used in fabric cutting at an advanced level. She has the set and goes to a class on how to use them the third Saturday of the month. I am off to the gun show while She does this. Afterwards there is a local silversmith that has a trunk show we do not want to miss, and an estate sale that looks pretty good. We will have a late lunch and then home for our usual Saturday night TV watch. We do not binge. We have four shows that we watch an episode each on Saturday evening. I hope y’all have a lovely Saturday.

Morning all. Quick note, need to get to my 8:15am game (refereeing) and the weather predictions show it getting very wet around here around 9:30am, so my other games may be rained out. Will catch up with you when I return.

I need to learn to listen to you, JtC. I added more pictures to the one here and it does look better completely dry. I still think that next time I’m going to find a friend that does a great job with their own and beg them to help.

Happy Anniversary hippie and Sunflower!

This is what the heart emoji and a general “Thank you for all the birthday/anniversary/whatever wishes!” come in really handy.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that for me, the closer I get to the ground, the more difficult it is for me to get up.

Dry, mine looks a bit better. But I’d still be interested to see how it looks when the girls are done (if they get to).

I’m in love with all the kittehs! I miss having my own fur babies, but I think it’ll need to be a few more years before it would be responsible to be a cat owner again.

FCM, I’m just exhausted reading about your day!

I’m enjoying porch time this morning. It’s overcast and a little chilly for my outfit this morning, but that’s what my warm fuzzy blanket is for. It’s raining pretty heavily up where MFN is so we’re punting getting my gummies to another day. I have one left so I’m not super desperate to get more (though the back pain is making me wonder). If the rain is hitting him now, I’m expecting it to arrive here shortly.

The only two things on my out of the house agenda is taking BtY to get a shirt he swears he doesn’t need, though Mom’s Rule says he won’t be wearing his faded old hoodie for the transition ceremony, and to get my mail. I’ve got to get cleaning done because my best friend and her youngest will be spending the night tomorrow night. I’ve gotten better about not expecting to have things perfect for her visits, but this is beyond that.

I’m going to enjoy just a little more porch time, then get started on the day. Have a great Saturday, all!

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Other than lunch with the friends from Indiana, not much shaking today.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Decades ago a couple I knew bought their first house shortly before the birth of their first kid. It was an old house with large trees, had a good-sized front yard with some lawn and a well-established large flower / shrub garden. The retirees who’d lived there before evidently loved to garden.

She was not a gardener, and very soon was more than fully occupied with an infant. While he was working stupid hours to replace her former salary. So the lovely garden quickly turned into a random collection of dead flowers and weeds & scraggly unkempt shrubs.

Her solution was clever. She went to the garden store and bought a sign for her garden. Which she emplaced where the walkway to the front door entered the garden. It said something close to:

My garden was at its peak last week.
Sorry you missed it.

The sign was there for years and eventually was as faded and ratty as the garden it introduced. Still, it made me smile every time I went to visit them and the kids. Who’re now in out of (!) college.

Perhaps you need a sign like that but just inside your front door.

Good morning one and all!

Happy Anniversary, Hippy!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes here and on the Book of Faces. I treated myself to a mani/pedi in the morning. I like pedicures because I enjoy the massage chair, calf, and foot rub. I’ve had some enthusiastic individuals, and I had to tell them to ease back a little, but 99 percent of the time, my experience has been very good. I don’t usually get manicures. I keep my nails short, and although they grow like crazy, they seem weak and either chip or crack. Because I’m going on that work trip this coming week and meeting up with my sister after, I had them paint a very pale pink color on my nails so they look shiny and well taken care of but don’t stand out. I also treated myself to a nice long pedicure with a gel soak, callous removal, and all sorts of little extras.

After the pedicure, I came home, and my husband took me shopping at the mall. I didn’t find anything, but we moseyed around the mall and bought myself some new sandals. He marveled at how empty the mall seemed and little selection was in the stores. I told him he now understood my hell and why clothes shopping is difficult for me.

After the mall, we came home for a bit, then headed to Point Ruston, an area along the Tacoma waterfront filled with parks, restaurants, and little stores. We ate at WildFin after stopping first at a pub and having a drink. We then walked outside and took a good look at the view, although we had a wonderful view from the restaurant too. We came home, fed Polar and chilled.

We had massive thunderboomers in the middle of the night. They were so big and loud that my house actually shook a little. That is a rarity!

I have many things to do today; yardwork, housecleaning, and laundry. Need to get the grass cut, some weeds pulled, some posies planted, run the roll-suck, dust, and wash the floor. Plus, I need to get the laundry done so I actually have clothes to pack for the trip. The kids are coming over on Sunday, and since I will be gone all week, I want my house cleaned before I leave. I’m sure I’ll still come home to a disaster, but it hopefully, it will be somewhat contained. Also, Polar needs another butt bath. Fun times…not.

But, if I can all of this done today, I can relax a bit when the kids come tomorrow.

Well, onward with the day. I’ve goofed off too long already!

@Taters, that sounds like a perfect day of celebration. Happy togetherness and for many more years. I especially liked this part …

Even when you “didn’t find anything” you still bought something. You and Her Ladyship would make a great pair.

Although in fact she, like you, has a very hard time finding sizes to fit in styles she likes. So she’s actually a very cheap date at the mall. Even at a booming one with well-stocked stores.

Well, that’s a twist on panhandling.
I mention that because yesterday on our way to a medical appointment, there was a panhandler on a small concrete island in the middle of 8 lane road with a pup. Seemed like animal abuse to me.

After all that work moving MIL and goods out, you will definitely deserve a nice relaxing party. :champagne:

No, I don’t, but thanks for the offer!

The Navy sent me to their weight-control programme – basically six weeks of calorie counting, with an OA meeting every day. The rule for men was 1200-1500 calories a day, and you’d get in trouble just as much for under 1200 as you would for over 1500. So 1200-1500 is what I’m doing now. (Can’t remember what the rule was for women – maybe 1100-1300.)

I was going to ask for his recipe.

“Very Big Cat”?

When Lady SCAdian cleans the litter boxes she barely has time to get her hands out of the way before the first cat climbs in.

Don’t forget to post pictures!

60 and the sky is falling rather vigorously at the moment; high 63, low 55, but then up into the 70s the next couple days. No thorms, though.

Lady SCAdian brought a couple of kittens into the house for a few minutes yesterday. Angel hissed and growled loudly, Eraser was interested at first but backed away when the kitten walked toward her, Jiji was apparently fascinated by them, and Nandi ran away though his head is bigger than the kittens. Lily wasn’t available for comment.

Cleaning the fridge breakfast.

I wanted bacon because… bacon. But what else shall I have? I made a three-egg omelette with the rest of the shredded Quattro Formaggio and rest of the shredded cheddar, and two big sandwich slices of turkey from the supermarket’s deli, topped with Sriracha (of course). Now I’m stuffed. Goo liked the bits of bacon I gave her.

I’ve washed the cutting board, and it’s draining. When I’m satisfied it’s dry enough, I’ll give it a good amount of mineral oil.

The cutting board was dry, so I’ve oiled it. Next up: Shredding some more cheddar, and then running the dishwasher.

Waiting at the U-Haul place for FCD. He dropped off SIL and stayed to chat. Dammit - I am stahvink!! No clue when he’ll get here.

But the move is done and I need to put some crap in the attic then organize the basement. My trunk is full of stuff for the thrift store. It never ends…

A reasonable heave for a Saturday. Someone on Nextdoor thought they saw Darci yesterday, in the opposite direction from where I’ve been looking. I drove around, but didn’t see anything. At least I know where to walk around now.

One thing the wife misses since we moved to tornado alley is digging in the dirt and planting things. We had a beautiful garden in PDX. There is one small opportunity here at The Home for Wayward Seabees, which involves planting things in large pots on the two terraces. There are also some actual beds on one of them. We planted a tomato last year, which did well, so we planted another one this year. The wife volunteered us to also plant some flowers, etc. Today, we got a trellis and a climbing flowering plant for it. We also picked up about eight kinds of herbs for a larger planter, stuck them in and watered everything well. We won’t get reimbursed for the cost of this, I’m sure, but it makes her happy, which is more important. Extra bonus: I got to use a power tool to get the trellis to stand up properly.

Wieners and beans for dinner.

Whenever a car passes out front, I look to see if it’s my wife coming home. She’s not coming home until tomorrow evening.

There’s a parade going by. I know because I just saw, out the window, a truck go by with a young woman standing in the back with a sign saying “South Wasco (something, something) Dairy Princess.”
Then somebody went by towing a boat with a for ‘sale’ sign on it. (Multitasking.)
I was tempted to put some clothes on and go outside to watch, but I sat back down and let the feeling pass.

I had a pedicure once. Wifey and The Daughter get together periodically to go ‘get their toes done’ and talked me in to going with them this one time. The little Vietnamese girl was dismayed at having to deal with a big hairy guy, and didn’t cut my toenails properly, or massage my legs very well. I was unimpressed.

Wifey will be back from her painting class tonight. I saved some of my corned beef for her return with an eye to making some proper corned beef hash for dinner. I must really love that woman!

The house we’re in the process of buying is in a subdivision with an HOA. Wifey is under the impression that lilacs aren’t on the HOA’s approved list.
I foresee trouble in my future.

Happy Sattiday.

It is weird when you’re not used to them being gone.

Despite my extensive travel, on only a few occasions with my late first wife did she ever travel alone leaving me at home. It was really weird. The separation itself wasn’t, since that happened 8 to 20 days per month every month, but the context of me being at home and her not was real disorienting. All the usual things I did to entertain myself where elsewhere and all the stuff we did together here were unavailable since she was gone. Never did it enough to get used to it.

Weird.

It was a productive day here at casa Paint. Rented a pressure washer and blasted the back porch, then returned it to the Home Despot. Supposed to storm this afternoon, so the stain is patiently waiting in the garage till it gets put on the porch tomorrow.

Home. FCD wasn’t up the the open house at the marina - this morning’s moving kinda kicked his butt. So he’s napping, and I’m about to assume the recline position with my tablet. Because I can.
