(Old) The Joy of Brain Farts in the MMP

She was suspended and she resigned her regimental post (pseudo-military school, recall…) Her mother is a teacher, and her response was quite reasonable under the circumstances. I got the impression that she wasn’t one of those “My-child-would-never” types. Anyway, except for the “victim”, everyone else has pretty much moved on. It was handled, the Board is looking into a process to deal with similar situations in the future, and life goes on…

If all goes according to plan (she says, crossing fingers and lighting candles to appropriate saints and spirits) we’ll get MIL’s old apartment emptied and cleaned this weekend, and that will be that. I did her change of address yesterday at the post office. And I think I’ve figured out where all the furniture will go in our house.

Minor drama last night - somehow, the new storm door at Daughter’s was locked, it has no key, nor do they have keys to their back door. Fortunately, a side window was left open. SIL had to cut or remove the screen, then climb into the window and over the dog crate that sits under the window. I’m sure that was quite a sight. I’m thinking it’s probably lucky no one called the police on the black man climbing in thru the window… They’re going to replace the locks on the back door and make sure they carry keys. The storm door lock isn’t keyed, and apparently it’s easy lock accidentally. So fun for them.

Playground day today. Boat might be floating again today - not sure. If not today, then tomorrow. Maybe life is about to settle a bit…

Happy Wednesday!

Morning all. Had the movie idea stuck in my head last night and ended up going to the 7:45pm show, which got me back home around 10:30pm (Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is not a bad movie, but does try to pack too much in, even at 2:20 run time and if you haven’t seen the earlier films you might get lost)… But the popcorn was good and the seating is all big recliner seats, so a comfortable place. so of course I woke up around 5am today…

Not much on the agenda, trash and recyclables head out to the curb this evening. Do a little shopping and maybe some swim-n-sauna time.

FCM, I’ve had to climb into my house via the windows on a couple of occasions, fortunately I’ve been able to do it from my back yard. And sympathy for your daughter, sometimes adults don’t know how to adult…and document, document, document is something my time in Government taught me, glad daughter learned it.

Dicey, which science museum (apologies if you’ve already mentioned it)? Need to add it to my list.

Shoe, hope work is quieter and maybe you’ll find someone rebounding from another breakup one of these days.

Flyboy, I never cared for ties, either bow or neck, but I admit it looks good on you.

Pilot, safe landings in Quito, spent an extra night there because of fog at the airport, but a nice city.

Hippie, had to look up hostas (not a plant-type person), but hope they work well in your yard.

Ok, need to do the morning internetting and be about the day. Only getting to 79F today, so AC may get the day off.

Take care all.

I’m up waaayyy too early. When will I learn that I’ve got to put in earplugs when I first go to bed, despite it being all quiet … cuz in a couple of hours, "Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp … "

I was wondering what the hell kind of person has strong feelings about hostas of all things, but then I remembered that I have a visceral dislike of begonias, particularly the red-leafed kind.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 68 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 86 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for this afternoon. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Other than that high sloth and general overall uselessness shall rule the day. Sonny’s shall prepare sup for us.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Do they have signs anywhere to mark the equator’s actual location? If they do, make sure you get a picture of yourself all bundled up and standing with one foot on each side of the line.

Busy, busy busy. We’ve been here for a couple of months already but there is still so much we have to do.

I was comparing the amount of rain here in my part of Hokkaido to where I was at in Taiwan. Here, we get 770 mm per year, which is just a bit over 30 inches 'Merikan, while were were getting 2218 mm (87 in) in Yilan.

I grew up in Salt Lake City, with an average of 18.6 in.

How’s the egg situation there? Japan has an egg shortage and it’s quite difficult to find any. The stores ration them but by visiting several places were we able to score some.

Y’all know takoyaki?
Imgur

We just got a cooking plate that has a takoyaki accessory. We made ours a bit more simple, but it was still good.

There are taken locally, so they are much cheaper than other places in Japan. They sell the smaller ones in the local farmers’ market.

Maven??? More like liberry nerds.

There is also the National Library of Medicine c&c which is what I used as a hospital librarian.

G’mornin’, kids!

Should be a pleasantly boring day. More discarding stuff and making room for the new workstations. I’m a little nervous that someone’s going to get a bug in their butt about how much stuff I’m “throwing out,” and like, well… Maybe if y’all moved yer asses and got me a budget, there’d be new stuff too? :woman_shrugging:

Had a real good D&D game last night. Thrills, danger, body horror, an epic climactic battle, and lots of treasure at the end, followed by a grand-opening-party as my private-eye gnome opened her new detective agency for business. The campaign consists of a few folks rotating DM duties and the current DM’s story arc is now complete, so I am gonna take a turn next. Just a short thing, should only be two or three sessions… Though my group has a knack for overthinking and complication, so it might wind up being more. I’m excited! I haven’t run anything in a couple years and I have what I think are some cool ideas, including but not limited to:

  • An endless hostile demiplane consisting of a single unbounded sentient forest that literally choked out all animal life millions of years ago.
  • A coldly capable veteran mercenary captain who wears a scale-mail cloak of linked enchanted silver pieces that provides him a barrier of temporary HP points, as the party chews through them the cloak sheds silver for them to pick up later.
  • A huge brutish guy named Bazgad Twin-eater. He’ll have a creepy conjoined-twin-face concealed under his armor. When they manage to finally kill him, the twin will “take over” and he’ll get back up.

How dare you accurately describe us!

Because I am one of you! One of us!

Humpy Happday!
After two days on the job, I’m getting high praise from the Project Manager, so I suppose I’m doing OK. It’s really not that difficult. I actually wish it was a little more physically demanding; there’s a lot of standing in one place, which is tough on my back.

I like the team I’m with. We’ve lunched together and hung out at Hotel Happy Hour both days. I’m getting to know everyone and they seem to like me too.

There’s a chance I’ll be here only one week instead of two. Something about a delay in extending our contract for the project. (There’ve been meetings to which I have not been privy.) If I do go home early there’s a good chance I’ll be back again after a week or two. Apparently that’s how these things go sometimes; it can be unpredictable.

FCM, years ago I lived in a second-floor condo and locked myself out. With the help of a friend, I climbed up onto my balcony, reached over and popped the screen out of my bedroom window (which fortunately was cracked open), then clung to the outside of the balcony railing as I hoisted myself into the window. All in broad daylight, and nobody seemed to notice.

Happy mid-week, Mumpers! Things in the pond are still hectic and crazy, but the end is nigh! Or soo I hope. The kids only have 6 1/2 days left (well, CtE has 3 full and 4 half days because of finals) and then I can force them to do manual labor (ie help clean house) until school starts back up.

Yesterday did not go as planned. CtE decided that, after school started, that their toe still hurt but it felt a bit better, they just needed another day of rest and didn’t need to go to the doctor. Having all my other plans yesterday, I left it up to Hubby. So CtE stayed home, didn’t go to the doctor but this morning were completely healed. I drove them in to school because if the pain IS real, I don’t want to force them to walk on it more than necessary. They’ll still be taking the city bus home but at least I had an appreciative child.

BtY’s IEP meeting went about as expected. He’ll need to have a cognitive eval once he starts high school, but a lot of his former accommodations are in place. Talking to one of his teachers, I found one that I’ll probably need to put in next year. Apparently, he gets really antsy during state testing and since we didn’t have an accommodation to allow him to test alone, she let him take the test under a table at the front of the room. So that is another arrow in the quiver for high school. Which is still breaking my brain.

I got to spend a large amount of time reading on the porch last night. I managed to read through 2 graphic novels and several chapters in a non-fiction book that I’m reading. I love that Hubby and the kids give me that personal time to de-stress after the busyness that life has been.

Today, my plans are somewhat up in the air. I’m supposed to get together my MFN today, but he got a surprise mandatory meeting at work today so we’ll just have to see if there’s still time to get together before I have to bring CtE to therapy and go to my book club. If not this week, maybe we’ll get together another time soon.

As per usual, I’ve read everything. But retention probably won’t be a common thing until school is out. But it will get there. In the meantime, hugs, support and love to everyone!

Just found out - “victim” teacher quit. Daughter talked to her with 2 board members present, and they escorted the teacher out.

Anybody wanna teach history and literature for little money? I can get you an interview…

What comics are you reading, Real Fish?

I’m glad it worked out that way, FCM. I do not trend toward optimism (big shocker, right?), but the way you told that story made me really think it was going to end ugly for all parties involved. This certainly seems like the best possible outcome.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Sorry the new dog didn’t work out for you, Sunny.

I’ve had to climb in through windows a time or two, Mom. Good thing SIL is limber enough for that. I’m not anymore. We have a contractors key box outside. Previous owner left it and we decided to just change the combination rather than remove it. Now all we have to do is remember the combination.

When you were in Portland, did you go by OMSI? (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry.) It’s a fun place.

Reading that, my brain went to one of those weird places in my mind and I had a vision of your neighbors saying: “Somebody’s breaking in over there! He’s better dressed than your usual burglar, though. We’ll allow it.”
My brain bone be weird.

Wifey has gone, with her BFF, up to Washington to learn how to paint (pastels) better. She won’t be back until Satidday, so I’m left to my own devices for now. I’m considering going to the recycle place and maybe getting a hair cut today. :scream: (Not at the recycling place. That would be weird, even for me.)
Before she left Wifey got a hunk of corned beef and a package of pork chops outta the freezer so’s I could eat while she was gone. I coulda done that myself, but Wifey was being Wifey. I cooked them all yesterday and ate one of the pork chops with a potato and some green peas. The other poke chop and the rest of the peas may become part of some pork fried rice tonight. I’m about to make a bit of corned beef hash for breakfast.
My, how I suffer.

Happy Hump Day, y’all.

They have a small, but very good exhibit of model trains (link) from the early 1900s, which you might find interesting. It’s the Swiss Science Center Technorama in Winterthur, just outside of Zurich. Here’s the Wikipedia page: Link and the science center itself: Link

Last September we went to the Exploratorium in San Francisco. The Technorama in Winterthur is a bit smaller, but it holds its own. It’s in Switzerland, so they have money to keep things fixed and well-kept.

Made chili, picked up Thai food from the food truck, and then helped hubby get the patios pressure washed. They look good, so definitely worth the money to buy a pressure washer.

We also received clothes, shoes and a new cover for the grill, so we have lots of cardboard.

Now it’s time to get dressed and get ourselves to a Kilchoman tasting at the local scotch place. Such a hardship!

One of the pluses of leaving the PNW was escaping the summer forest fire smoke. It has apparently followed us to MN. Weather systems are bringing smoke from Alberta down our way.

Picked up a tomato plant yesterday. The Overlook Retirement Home encourages folks to grow plants in pots on the terrace, where there is a lot of sunlight. Our tomato did really well last year, so we’re at it again. The wife really misses our garden, so this will let her get her paws in the dirt again, however briefly.

Niner, last night I read In the Shadow of No Towers by Art Spiegelman and Sakamoto Days, Vol 3 by Yuto Suzuki. I finished The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V and Filipe Andrade and M is for Monster by Talia Dutton not too long ago for my Book Club tonight. I also read The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen for Project Lit on Friday. Then I have Chef’s Kiss by Jarrett Melendez, Danica Brine, Hank Jones and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaouon on deck for my virtual graphic novel book club next month and rereads of Watchmen and V for Vendetta, both by Alan Moore for next month’s physical book club. And that’s just what’s currently in the hopper.

Yeah, I like reading graphics a little…

You’re not here anymore? I missed that.

Yeah, left there just over a year ago. We have family in the MSP area and decided to move closer to them, since we rarely saw them. We miss the PNW, especially the coast, but not the gray skies all winter and smoke in summer.
