And people who are mean to you (loud, rude neighbors) bring out the worst in me. It all tracks.
I almost died of a heart attack just reading these words.
I remember a scene from Babylon 5 in which Mt. Garabaldi is serving a dip called bagna cauda. It had garlic, anchovies, all chopped into melted butter and olive oil. Dr. Franklin said “I can feel my arteries hardening just being in the same room with it.”
I got her off my case by pointing out that there are dozens of dispensary (e.g. places that sell shhh! pot!) locations opening up, and they’re hiring!
Turns out, according to my mother, there are worse things than slingin’ pizzas.
And OH MY GOD have I not told y’all the “stripper job” story?!? That involves my mother? I swear I did.
If I hafta tell it again, I will.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a balmy 42 degrees Ferret Height out(5.5 Centipedes)
Well, you can’t eat Swedish Meatballs every day.
I wanna hear it.
I can narrow it down to two options…
Cats Are Not Peas, by Laura L Gould, is a very interesting book that starts with the author wondering why that is so.
Some years back somebody said “A girl should never be named ‘Brittany’ unless she has older brothers named Maine and Anjou.”
I’ll probably add some bacon to my next batch of chili.
Please do!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with a predicted high of 8c/45f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s going to be a fucking cool and overcast day. Got it? Now let’s all go and get the fuck over ourselves.”
I hope it didn’t cause too much mess or damage, but now it’s created another job for poor shoe to add to her list.
I don’t get it either, but some of my friends are absolutely addicted to it. I generally don’t bother with reality TV because I get bored, then annoyed with the whole thing. I suppose it would be different if I actually cared about any of the people but I don’t, so I have absolutely no investment in the shows.
I’d be doing exactly that if I had to live in London. Some people love it, I do not. Congrats on being immortalised too
Glad to hear it, colds are no fun at all. Spicy beef broth sounds good, especially if it really is spicy and it’s not just a nod towards a spice jar.
Spooky! I was just thinking about JtC and the haint this morning! I suppose with all the stuff going on with Hubs, the haint might have given them a break.
I think your mother brought the wrong one back from the hospital!
I ended up having a not very productive day as I found myself sorting things out for other people instead of doing the job I’d intended to get on with. Logged out of work and did a Rockfit session as that usually improves my post-work disposition. Then I had a bit of sofa time before making dinner. Today I really have to get on with the thing I should have done yesterday, and I also need to prep campus food for the rest of the week.
I’ve been outside as the binmen have been round, so I hauled the biiiiiig bin back to where it lives until the next collection comes around. Time for more tea, then I must get on with my module choices pages.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 42 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and cloudy for the day. As long as no evil white stuff falls from the sky I’m good. It’s laundry day. I am overjoyed with anticipation. I also need to call the pharmacy about a ‘script refill. My life is a thrill a minute. Sup will be leftovers from last night. The day is jam packed, but I shall endeavor to get in some RDOS inactivity time.
shoe I eagerly await the tale of stripper mom.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Up earlier than yesterday but still not stoopit early, so huzzah!
Today, we have to go see our money guy, and I’m pretty sure it’s to do with the check that came in the mail rather than being direct-deposited. That appointment is at 11:30, so we’ll go out to lunch after since we’ll be down the end of the county where many eating establishments are.
I got in touch with Jessica yesterday and she’s going to stop by this week (I hope) and take all the blankets. It looks odd around my recliner not to see piles of yarn and pattern books. It was even odder when we were watching TV last night and I had nothing to do with my hands - I just watched!!
The only other thing I must do is wrap and freeze the chickie tits I bought yesterday. Maybe I’ll leave one out for tonight’s supper. And I’ll have another look on line for our tax documents. I need to get that over and done with - here’s hoping I had enough withheld thru the year so we don’t have to pay anything. And I know there’s no sense in itemizing - we don’t have enough deductions. Just short form and standard deduction and we’re done. I just need all the official docs from our SS and annuities.
So, yeah, lots of fun and excitement ahead. Plus temps may hit 50°, so we’ve got that going for us.
Happy Tuesday!
Good morning.
It’s 26F and partly cloudy, but we’ll have abundant sunshine and a high temperature of 45F by afternoon.
shoe, bummer about the bookshelf. I hope you can fix it soon and put even MORE books up there. Be sure to report to your mother that you found more books.
Nellie, I’m glad the maintenance guy is doing alright.
I need to take Buster back to the vet this morning for a check-up. That should be fun.
Work was an absolute atrocity yesterday. I got into my office around 5:15 a.m., and it started then. One crisis after another, all having to do with lack of funds, the suspension or freezing of certain types of funds including some payroll funds, lack of communication, and the change in administration. It’s been a real Charlie Foxtrot. I don’t think today will be much better. I know last week was exhausting, and this week promises to bring that exhaustion to a new level.
In addition, I found out someone has decided to retire. She’s had enough. It will hurt her program because she’s been around a very long time and knows her stuff. Only the management knows; she doesn’t want it publicized yet.
BLUF: Work has been pure chaos and won’t level out for quite some time.
That’s all I’ve got for now. I promise I read; I just wasn’t able to retain much.
Everyone take care.
Do you mean mixed in, or an actual filling like Twinkie? Either way, it sounds good (not sure about the ranch sauce); but The Spousal Unit can’t eat the jalapeños, and the onions might give her trouble.
You flatten out the beef mixture and spread on the filling mixture and then roll it up and tuck in the edges.
I’ve been up since about 3 this morning. It was fortunate, though, because my mom called me at 4 to pick her up. I have gotten many things accomplished today, even things that I’ve been putting off for months!
I’d really like to take a nap, but MusicMan has been having a difficult time with some things at work, and I don’t want to be snoozing if he calls. So, back to work with me!
Sounds like a jelly roll (which I’ve never made and have seldom eaten).
I think I have mentioned before I once had a dinner for friends who all were fans of the show. I had both Swedish meatballs and bagna cauda, as well as other foods mentioned on the show.
Morning all. Stayed in bed until 8am (with a couple trips to micturate). Have had my Big Bowl O’Cereal (Rice Krispies today) and ab apple to break fast. Nothing on the agenda until 1pm when I go for my semi-annual tooth inspection. 44F outside and heading to 57F, so it’s warming up some more. No rain due before Friday, so looks pretty nice out there. Got a reminder by phone of my surgeon follow-up appointment next Monday, so confirmed that. Otherwise should be another day of sloth in Case Rat.
Spot needs glasses.
shoe, very well-played with the dispenary job comment. And I don’t recall you evr mentioning the stripper job, but I could stand to hear a little more…
Taters, feel for you, I think most any government office, federal or state, is in a state of flux right now, not sure what is going to happen next. Hang in there.
And have NEVER eaten Swedish Meatballs or bagna cauda. Yet.
Have a good 2sDay all.
Nowadays, I rarely visit the library because I can check out all the audio and digital books I want online. I haven’t read a dead tree book in years. If there was a bookmobile running here, all of that would change instantly!
Oh, boy, I remember you sharing some of the extreme restrictions your hubs was under at first. He sure has come a long way since then. Both of you have worked so hard for this, I’m so happy his recovery is continuing to go well.
IIRC, you will need to bring your coffee maker too! I still can’t wrap my mind around the idea of no coffee in the morning, but someone’s gotta do it.
I didn’t even think about that part, LOL!!!
I agree. I was OK with bugs bunny and the roadrunner cartoons because I knew they weren’t real. I refused to watch the three stoodges because even as an uncivilized 8 year old that hurting people wasn’t funny.
Those are some very cute cards, you are so creative!

And, exciting folks that we are, MusicMan is already in bed asleep and Annie and I are watching the first Knives Out movie.
Can you imagine telling twenty year old you what a party animal you’ve become? Twenty year old me would have laughed her butt off and not believed it.
Isn’t 4 am a little early to be leaving a sleep study? Wasn’t she able to go into REM sleep in a strange place?
I hope they learned enough to help her.

so we hit the hospital cafeteria for lunch
Hospital cafeterias have come a very long way, haven’t they? I had breakfast while Hubs was getting stented and the scrambled eggs were the best I’ve had in any restaurant setting for a very long time.

JtC, and you had a nice day doing nice things. I am envious and must try to do better.
You coach kid’s soccer. I’d say you do good things every day, you touch futures.

Meeting with the surgeon is not until 4 February (next Monday), but except for the gym and doing no heavy lifting,
It’s the heavy lifting that is the problem. 10 lbs isn’t much weight, a gallon of milk is 8.4 lbs so that means he can’t lift two gallons even if he uses both hands. He’s so used to just scooping GG up for a cuddle and that has had to stop as well.
A big advantage of me deciding that I had to be able to reach everything in our home is that I don’t have to be getting on him for lifting his arms more than shoulder high.
I hope you don’t get too bored waiting to be released, but I’ll bet that your general good health will insure that you will be back at the gym Monday afternoon!

Thought you might want to know that maintenance guy was back at work today.
That’s very good news, I hope what happened was minor and easily treated so that there will be no further scares.

And OH MY GOD have I not told y’all the “stripper job” story?!? That involves my mother? I swear I did.
Oh, I have GOT to hear that one!!!

I’ve been outside as the binmen have been round, so I hauled the biiiiiig bin back to where it lives until the next collection comes around.
I just realized that I shouldn’t have pulled the bin back to its filling spot. That’s Hubs’ job, I was doing it while he was doing so poorly but he’s certainly able to do it now. /grumbles at self

It looks odd around my recliner not to see piles of yarn and pattern books. It was even odder when we were watching TV last night and I had nothing to do with my hands - I just watched!!
Are you giving crocheting up completely? I’ve always been afraid that if I didn’t have a needle in my hands, I would have food instead, is that not a worry for you?

BLUF: Work has been pure chaos and won’t level out for quite some time.
I’ve read yesterday’s order several times and I keep coming up with the same answer. EBT will included because it isn’t paid out to individuals, it is paid to the states to disperse to the individuals. Please tell me that I’m wrong about this.
Woke up early and tried to go back to sleep, but I kept thinking of all the ways I would torture a certain political figure if I had the opportunity. Unproductive, to say the least, so up I rose. Fed the cat, then made cornmeal pancakes for human breakfast. The big sugar load is now making it difficult to stay awake, of course.
I’m also oddly achy from yesterday’s exercise, which didn’t seem all that strenuous. I really should get out and take a walk, as it’s a balmy 37F at the moment, but ambition is low. We may or may not head to the grocery today for a $50 bag of necessities.
All this talk about meatloaf reminds me of the time my former roommate served my husband and me meatloaf that had pepperoni bits mixed in. She got the recipe from (I kid you not) her Barbie cookbook. I was prepared to have to fake my enthusiasm, but it was surprisingly OK.

I don’t think today will be much better.
I saw the news just before posting, and it sounds like today will be even worse by an order of magnitude. I’m so sorry. I wish I could think of something encouraging to say, but all that comes to mind is what my BIL called “Italian Cure-All,” a big glass of wine, and that would have to wait until you get home.

I’ve been up since about 3 this morning. It was fortunate, though, because my mom called me at 4 to pick her up. I have gotten many things accomplished today, even things that I’ve been putting off for months!
Whew! If you get no nap time, I hope you can at least get to bed early.

I’m so happy his recovery is continuing to go well.
Ditto. It’s been a quiet joy.

I refused to watch the three stoodges because even as an uncivilized 8 year old that hurting people wasn’t funny.
So glad I wasn’t the only one. When I was four, I saw an episode where Curly hit Larry with a sledgehammer or something, and Larry had the imprint of the “Made in USA” on his forehead. I was so squicked out, I avoided watching at all costs.

I hope what happened was minor and easily treated so that there will be no further scares.
I hope so, too, but the manager has doubts.

That doesn’t sound bad, really.
The GodBod is back!!
Howdy y’all, 'tis been a bit. I’ve been trying to get by in life, remaining hopeful and all. I ended off last semester with a 4.0 GPA, which was quite the surprise for me. I honestly didn’t have any real secret tricks up my sleeve or anything; I just…did the work as it came. Oh well, it worked out and I got the Dean’s list again, so that’s nice.
This semester is proving to be super hectic, but not too bad. All computer classes this time, so no more gen-ed classes to take the load off. Thankfully, a lot of my classes are simply building on what I’ve done in previous classes, so it overall hasn’t been too bad.
Remain hopeful, y’all.
