Yikes! I hope that the plague isn’t too ugly and your belated anniversary celebration is great.
I hope that Roxy’s feeling better soon Moooooom.
JtC, I’m going to second boo on the bacon numminess. Bacon is a treat that has to be earned with following medical advice at this point (see the Nutty Buddies aren’t allowed in my home post of this diabetic above somewhere).
Much as Bernese are cute and smart, you may want to think about being able to pick one up to put in the car in case of an emergency. It’s one of the reasons that I have a little guy and my goddog won’t get bigger than 25 pounds.
Keeping appendages crossed. Glad it went well.
{{{Rilchaim}}}
I had to make up for lost time at irk today, as no one does most of my job when I take off, but by this time next week, I should be caught up.
We’re suppose to get snowmageddon this weekend, so’s I made the menu plans and grocery list early. I’ll bounce home tomorrow long enough to walk Nelson, then go Krogering.
Speaking of a certain reddish dog, he’s kept me busy playing fetch and tug of war since it’s been too cold for dog park trips and our walks have gotten to be long enough to take care of business. It’s amazing how much energy my nearly 8 year old boy still has.
I need mine when I first wake up in the morning, just to get as far as the bedroom door. (And sometimes just to help me stand up.) I usually don’t use it otherwise, at home, but I almost always take it with me when I go somewhere – even if I don’t always remember to grab it when I get out of the car.
But you only have one cat. On the theory that there should be one box per cat, we should actually have three more.
No and no. I don’t use it at home often because I’ve got grabby things and sitting places close to hand. I always have it with me when I go out. Sometimes I use it and sometimes I just carry it around and look dashing. Once in a while I use it to whack someone. More often I use it to lean on while waiting in line.
I think you should bling your cane out. Glitter and blinking lights! You know those shoes that light up as you walk? You can get cane tips that do that as well.
My cane (carbon fiber, oversized hook and shark tooth grips) has gold and silver planets and stars covering it now. They are getting faded so I should probably bling it up before our glass blowing class.
I wonder how cousin knows that homespun dog fur sweaters shouldn’t be worn in the rain???
I sang my work song in my cube once …and what will they say about me? She’s just a PSE, not anything to me and life goes on without her…
There was much discussion between the ones who remembered 90’s music and the ones who don’t. I thought David Lee Roth was a god who would never be forgotten, but some of the blank looks just made me feel sooo old.
That is amazing. I’m so happy you have that memory, how precious!
I’m honestly joking about getting a Berny. We are too old to properly care for a young active dog, it wouldn’t be fair to the dog. Cousin probably is also joking because she knows about our health issues and she loves her dogs. She wouldn’t want one to go to a family who couldn’t properly care for it.
In the cold half of the year I make sure to always have a cane in the car in case snow/sleet/ice happens while I’m out and I need that 3rd point of stability for balance. Then there is always a couple canes to choose from by the front door to keep me always vertical from my house to the car (with a cane or 2 inside). Inevitably the cane stash ends up either all in the house or all in the car so then I have to redistribute. Even in the summer I keep one stashed way in the back in the trunk in case my worst knee decides to act up for no reason at all, which it has done.
My circulating collection of canes is a whole lot easier to be cheerful about compared to the year I spent needing a walker. Then it was a whole lot easier to just stay home, even with the super light low profile folding walker I had.
I kinda look like a Monty Python sketch sometimes~hobbling along with a cane in my right hand and trying to keep my oxygen concentrator from slipping off my left shoulder-a friend chides me because I don’t carry a proper purse, just my keys and card case on a lanyard and my phone in a pocket. How would I, with what third arm and hand? I need to find a stylish anti-pickpocket vest with 16 cargo pockets.
Good evening all. Went to the gym early and did my swimming in sets rather than all at one go, got 3,600 yards (2 miles) in so no pressure to go back to the gym tonight. Ham-n-Cheezers took care of the evening repast and now I have to watch my snacking (note to self: just because cookies come in a 2-cookie packet you don’t have to eat 3-4 packets at a time…No more cookie-buying!).
Got a message from the Soccer association, there is major wetness due Firday, and they don’t know if it will be rain/sleet/or snow, so soccer for Saturday is up in the air. For that matter, several things I was planning on doing Friday may get moved to tomorrow. Ya never know…
As others have discussed, I get the pre-cooked bacon since (1) I am lousy at cleaning up greasy messes (2) If I open a package of bacon to cook somehow all of it ends up cooked and (3) 5 slices of bacon at one time is enough…I guess…
doggio, nothing like a “oops,we forgot about that one” to make your day lively.
Which reminds me I was at the St. Louis Aquarium right after Xmas and the had a display of doctor fish that when you put your hands in the water they would come up and nibble off the dead skin (at least that’s what they said). Fish were smaller than minnows but there was a couple hundred of them in the tanks and the feeling of 30-40 tiny fish nibbling on your hand was…unique.
JtC, yeah, bacon fat is delicious but artery-clogging, not good for a Man with his health issues. See that you’ve done the right thing, the crows will be hanging out at your place (well, at least one of them…).
FCM, glad Roxy doesn’t appear to have anything seriously wrong with her, but best to monitor it. And I can sympathize with FCD, we have a couple guys at the gym who I try not to get talking to, they are experts in everything and will talk 30 minutes straight if you let them.
foolsguinea, welcome back, hope you can stay awhile…and fingers crossed that they figure out what is distressing you.
Nut, glad the car situation is working out.
Cat Glove, that is a good thing you are doing. And thanks for the info on the Hybrid, I drive about 400 miles/month so should mean many fewer gas stops. And I don’t plan on drowning, heart is in good shape and I stop when my body tells me it’s time for the jacuzzi…
rocky, happy de-lighting. And hope the chairs are admired and don’t cause any grumbling…
JtC, Bernese Mountain Dogs are beautiful, but they are large and can be a handful, so might not be a great fit. Here’s a You Tube from my favorite groomer–see what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54h15RQZC80 (and I see it was mostly in jest, but they are very handsome dogs). And glad your first winter in W. Virginia is going well, sounds like you’re making friends with the delivery folks.
Oopsie, I read your ‘make it so’ memory and was thinking ‘the show couldn’t possibly be that old’ and then I remembered discussing it with some of my work colleagues back in St. Louis in the mid-1990’s and now I too feel old (need to find some kids to tell to get off my lawn…). Stay warm.
Snark Hunter, sad to hear about your friends and the places you know all too well. Take care.
VanGo, bet some of the full-time folks try to get you to slack off and stop making them look bad. Still hoping the job comes through.
Concur. And now my brain hurts from thinking about it…
First time I ever saw a Newfoundland Dog my first thought was “somebody tamed a bear and has it on a leash.”
red, glad there is still some pep in the pup.
Whew! Keeping up with you folks is a full-time job. Have a good evening all and see you on Thorsday.
Howdy Y’all! I saw the doc and vampires and texted OYKW that I was stoppin’ by Pearlie’s to get bizkits to bring back to da cave. This made him happy especially since he’d just gotten back from the Pubic sto’. Then we achieved nappage. I led group tonight over to the church house as Priest had to go to his home town because his grandfather died. I can be useful when called upon to do so. We had a nummy sup of chikin ‘n dumplin’s, green beans, corn puddin’ and apple dumplin’s with caramel sauce and whipped cream. OYKW is abed and I shall join him shortly. It’s cold out and I want to snuggle in my blanky.
MOOOOOOM if we were havin’ a disagreement over hardware it must have been about whether or not we could get them in pastels.
MetalMouse we have service with Verizon. Maybe we’ll come into some big bucks like you!
I have a jacket from this company. It is amazing how many things you can put in the pockets. They have all sorts of garments with a crazy amount of pockets.
As of about 6:45pm Pacific, there are six wildfires burning in the Los Angeles county area and one in neighboring Ventura county, says CalFire. Three started yesterday, four today.
I’m honestly very suspicious there’s an intentional arsonist on the loose.
I’m fighting to keep my eyes open tonight, waiting to hear from my son.
MetalMouse I am afraid he will never interview for a different job.
This one isn’t too bad, just a few weeks ago he was working OT. The irk ebbs and flows.
He could irk an almost full shift, but he chooses not to. Management will ask who wants to stay and who wants to leave early when there isn’t enough irk. The people who really need the money will choose to stay. The ones who don’t, like my son, will leave early.
That will change for him when I am gone, then he is going to need every bit he can get.
I worked out a budget and he can get by on just his salary. It will be tight, but he can do it.
We could get by on just my salary and social security; it would be tight but could be done.
I could quit and become a RDOS, except if something were to happen to him, I need a bit more than I get. In the normal order of things, that would not happen, but we all know, shit happens. It’s better for me to keep this job. I’ve been irking part time anyway, although I’ve decided to go back to full time. I can irk as much or as little as I want, but some of my clients have been unhappy about my shorter hours.
Now that a lot of the house has been put in order, I feel less stressed, and better able to focus on irk.
Doggio, I wonder if my package was in those returns.
I finally contacted the seller, I was supposed to have the package in the beginning of December. I saw the seller had lots of complaints at da jungle, but da jungle crossed all of them out and made a note that it was not the fault of the seller. I told the seller that I was sorry to add to their burden, but I didn’t get my package either. I feel bad for them, I think it was a post office problem. That has to suck for the seller, to have problems that are out of their control at probably their most productive time.
{{{Herald}}} falling is always scary, and then covid too. I hope you feel better soon.
Sticky, when I was using a cane, I carried it with me all the time. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Same with the walker. I don’t use it in the house, but I use it everywhere I go.
I don’t use it in the house, and I probably could get by without it most of the time when I’m out. There are times when I am walking fast with it. People probably think if I can walk that fast, I don’t need it. However, those same people aren’t going to pick me up if I fall, so screw what they think.
My son expects to get off around 2, so I’m off to bed.
It’s 72 in the apartment, but I feel as cold as my martini. Maybe because it’s 29 frekin’ degrees Ferret Height outside? Also Maintenance put in a new towel bar, because the wall guy who fixed the holes in the walls spackled over one mounting hole, and spackled the other bracket in the wall. Crooked(nice kid, but the boy’s about as sharp as a sack full of wet mice).
Indeed. And welcome back!
Send him out for tea, Earl Grey, hot.
Yay!
Roomie has a cane and a walker. She uses it depending on how the knee feels.
1" is a huge snow storm in N.C.
Odin will smile upon her.
The returns were going all over the country, so maybe. At least I didn’t recognize your name on the ones I did.
I’m happy to report that all’s quiet on the neighbor front for the second night in a row.
I left the house a little late to walk downtown to the bus station, so I had to hustle. En route, a homeless man using a blanket for a coat asked me if I had change. I stopped to give him some and missed the bus by 10 seconds. I decided instead of thinking the stop cost me, I’d see it as forgetting my phone and having to run back up the stairs to get it was what cost me. I was able to catch another bus and got to my appointment on time, just not quite as early as usual.
My cousin lives northeast of LA. She sent me photos of the fire she took from her porch this morning. It’s unreal how close it looks. They were up all night due to possible evacuation. I feel awful for the people who’ve lost their homes, even the wealthiest. Memories can’t be replaced.
The upstairs apartment is rented by a corporation. They use it for a B&B. It’s empty over half the time, so then it’s very quiet. Some “guests” are noisier than others. Management did contact the corporate “tenants” about the B&B guests blasting music at 5 a.m., but I don’t know if the corporation contacted the guests . The master blasters left the next day, which resolved the issue.
This is my career goal. I probably should have started working on it sooner.
As I learned the hard way in the Wyoming wind festival. if it’s gusty, shoveling is fruitless, so see? You were merely being efficient!
That’s precisely what I’m afraid of. The woman who’s on the lease needs to break up with her off-lease boyfriend (who’s loud in every way) and make the extended family party elsewhere.
Herald, I’m so sorry about the Covid Andrew the fall. Here’s to a quick recovery!
VanGo, glad the first day went well. I’d sure hire you permanently. You work hard and inspire others to do the same.
I always buy the precooked. Why cook a whole package when it’s just me?
Hmm. That’s the very slogan above secret room doorways. Maybe you’re secretly a secret room dweller.
Hey, shoe, I’ve been meaning to ask, can people order their pizzas online at your establishment? Just curious. Also, I’m so glad you now work somewhere where you’re happy and you’re generally treated well. How long has it been? Two years? Three?
Two scoops of poop are the reason
Raidin’ the litter box is so pleasin’!
Old commercial jingles never leave my head.
I’m fading fast. Those 6 miles I walked aren’t pulling me toward The Good Ship Lollypop.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently -3c/26f with a predicted high of 3c/35f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s as cold as a fucking brass toilet seat on the shady side of a fucking iceberg.” I can’t say, I’ve never had that experience!
Probably - I didn’t have a stock pot so I used a stock cube instead.
Diamond bakeware would be far too expensive for me! Gas 4, or 180 degrees for those no lucky enough to cook with gas)
You know your body best, as long as you’re sensible enough not to do things that will put strain on the healing area and nothing likely to pop the stitches etc, you should be able to move around if you want to.
Oooh…popping over to my side of the pond? How brave of you!
Welcome back - did you miss us?
I’m glad day one went well, I hope they decide to keep you on permanently!
I had a pleasant evening, went to the pub with my friends (hadn’t seen them since before xmas) and it was good to catch up with them. The pub was fairly quiet and we got a nice seat close to one of the open fires (but not too close, Liz and I aren’t into that much heat). I was home and in bed by 11pm, but my idiot neighbour’s car alarm was going off at regular intervals until at least 2am, when I must have finally fallen asleep. I woke up at 5am, then again when the alarm went off. The Travel Gods took pity on me and were quite generous today, so I was in the office on time.
'im indoors is coming back home tonight, he sent me a text to say he would sort out his own food so I just got something out of the freezer for myself for tonight. The cats will be pleased to have both their servants back again, they aren’t used to an empty house during the day and no lunchtime treats!
I’m sure you pull that off quite well! And I have a new and rather snazzy cane for winter. It’s got a purple and black pattern, it’s collapsible, and it has a retracting stabby point on the end for the ice or random, rogue intruders.
That’s terrific!
I have a doctors appointment in a couple hours. Just a routine checkup, I guess. Then I’m going to work on the house (as usual) but with a bit more oomph as I will be taking a class all week next week and will not be home during the days.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 28 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 49 and N.O.S. This will be a day to stay inside and warm while engagin’ in high RDOS inactivities. Both of us peopled enough yestiddy. I feel a day of trash teevee, nappage and day drinkin’ has been earned. Sup shall be the heatage and eatage of various and sundry leftovers.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
I told FCD to set an alarm on his phone so he wouldn’t get stuck in Chatterland. Had I been with him, I’d have done that and played the bad guy. But he can’t bring himself to do it. So he suffers.
Speaking of dogs, FCD had a dream that we got an English bulldog. He still wants a dog, but I don’t want to have to deal with it, and I always do. Plus we’re planning to be away for 5 weeks next year - that’s a long time to expect Daughter to keep a second dog in her tiny house. Oh, and he thinks we can take a dog boating with us. Another big no in my book - I don’t care if other people do it - I don’t want to. I’m done. When Ziva goes, that’s it for pets.
Yanno, there’s no rule that you have to respond to everyone every time… Just sayin’.
Considering we’re still digging out of 8-12", an inch is nothing. 3" is barely more than nothing. But in Jax, FL, half an inch is Snowpocalypse, as I witnessed one year.
FCD mentioned that he called his brother’s case worker yesterday (he’d spoken to the case worker’s boss last week.) The trigger to last week’s “suicide” threat was an envelope from the organization that’s working to help BIL, but he didn’t recognize the name. He also didn’t open it - he just freaked out and threatened to kill himself. I think the hospital has a special note in his file, because he wasn’t admitted - just sent home. Anyway, he’s going to be seeing a psychiatrist regularly. Dunno if that will help or not - I guess we’ll see.
Either it’s very windy out or my eyes are messing with me. Hard to tell in the early semi-darkness. It’s supposed to be sunny and blustery and below freezing today. Blech! But we have no plans that will require us to leave. At some point, I’ll turn the pellet stove off so I can scoop out the ashes and clean it a bit. I’ve found if I clean it more often, it’s easier to deal with - um duh!
I was finally able to make an appointment to get my eyes checked. The optometrist’s on-like booking only goes out 6 weeks and today, my earliest date fell within the available dates. (Insurance requires a year and a day between appointments or they won’t pay.) I’m glad it’ll be soon - this past year my eyes have really gone to crap. It’s like they won’t work together - I often see double. Last year, I had issues with the glasses I got and I’m not sure where the problem was, but here’s hoping this year it’s better.
It’s 41F and mostly cloudy. It’ll be mostly cloudy throughout the morning, but we’ll have partly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 44F by afternoon. Once again, we have very dull weather and no chance of any snow in sight. Harrumph. Not even frost, for goodness sake!
VanGo, I’m glad the first day went well, and I hope the gig will become permanent.
Nellie, I’m glad everything is quiet on the neighbor front. I hope it remains so, but what I really hope for is that you can find a different place that doesn’t make you share walls.
Herald, I’m very sorry to read about your fall. I hope you’re doing much better and your delayed celebration is terrific.
Work was hectic yesterday, but that wasn’t surprising. My drive into the office was mostly uneventful, and the drive back was crowded as usual. I had “the conversation” with that employee on Tuesday and accompanied that with written instructions concerning some procedures. I had a meeting that included our boss. The employee was pissed, so yesterday, I followed that up with an in-person conversation. He’s still pissed but now understands why I had to create these procedures. I made them keep both him and his former agency at arm’s length from each other and to foster goodwill between all the agencies. Jesus, the amount of time I have spent on this issue is astounding and stupid. There is a certain amount of paranoia on both his and his former agency’s part, or more specifically, some of the employees from his former agency. It’s dumb and it’s become a massive time suck.
I had my weekly one-on-one with my boss yesterday; it went well. It always does. He informed me he’s part of an interview panel for another state for applicants applying for my role in that state. He’s using me and how I operate as the standard for the applicants. It’s both flattering and a little disconcerting.
Jeebus, I had to crack the window here in the den. My desk chair sits right by the floor vent, and that furnace pumps out the heat. It’s just not cold enough outside, and I think I will lower the thermostat to 65F. I currently have it at 68F, but it’s uncomfortably warm, especially in the morning.
I suppose I should finish my coffee and start my day. I’m off today, and I think I’ll just get a jump on some chores so I have less to do over the weekend.
