(Old) The Snowed In MMP

OMG - supper was wonderful! I’m glad I went the traditional route. And there’s enough left over for another meal for both of us.

I finished one blanket and started the next-to-the-last one. It’s going to be in random earth tones plus some yellow. No specific pattern for the colors, other than I started in dark green and I’ll end with dark green. All the rest will happen as it happens. In fact, I need to get back to it now. And so I shall.

And when I came home from errands, our snow service had been by and cleaned our driveway and front sidewalk. Twice in three days they’ve been by.

Worth every penny! (I think we’re coming out ahead this year. Last year, with so little snow, they probably made out like bandits. It all evens out, karma’s wheel turns, etc.)

And when I put some stuff in the garbage bin under the sink, discovered that both the blue recycling and the garbage are full and should be emptied.

But now I have a hot choccie on the go, with a shot of Screech, to warm me up from the shovelling the back path, so they can wait until tomorrow for emptying.

She’s so sleek!

Same. However, it’s supposed to freeze the melting stuff again tonight.

Dang! I’m going to have to invite all of y’all to my dad’s for Thanksgiving. Because it’s the only time he gets it, I go all out for a Polish meal that includes his favorites: pierogi (I usually do potato/cheese, mushroom and mince), golumpki, haluski, prune kolache (I know, not really Polish, but his mom used to make them), poppy seed cake and sometimes even saffron buns. Of course, I usually do a pumpkin pie on top of that. :stuck_out_tongue:

I got what snow that remained brushed off the car, then headed down the street to the cheap Chinese for some house special soup and an aig roll. Now to mess around in the studio.

Cut and paste it where? “the bar”? Not following; sorry to be stupid, I tried pasting various places but nothing worked.

The space where you type a URL to go to a website, up at the top of your browser window.

The bar, the place up at the top of the browser that tells you where you are. Right now it says: boards.straightdope.com blah blah blah.

That’s what I tried first of all and nothing happened after I copied and pasted and deleted the blank: I thought the picture would then load but it did not. What’s supposed to happen after I’ve done all that? (thanks for trying to help)

From the weather maps, it now looks to me like this latest winter weather warning is also going to miss the cities. This has to rank as one of the driest winters on record.

Howdy Y’all! I got productive this mornin’ and RDOS inactive this afternoon. Then sup got fixed and et. That sums up the day here in swampland. Now I am tryin’ to make it until eight p.m. when I shall go beddy bye cause I feel sleepified.

That makes a whole bunch of sense. I’ve seen dogs in booties and always wondered how long it took to get pup comfy without being able to feel the ground with their pads.

WOW! That’s amazing! I knew you would do a better job of painting the door than me  I love your chairs, but they really make my CDO twitchy (they are in the wrong color chart order), is that why the screaming in happening? (Actually, its because half of them are in the right order that is triggering me, if they were all mixed up I wouldn’t even notice. Brains are teh weird.)

We got three inches of snow over night and another inch before it finally stopped around lunch time. I think this is all of the snow for a while, I will miss it when its gone.

NOOOOO!!! I’d defect to Canada first!!!

I’m sorry you are feeling poorly, I hope it is just a minor upset and that you will be better soonist!

I am really surprised how accurate the weather guessers are out here. They update often and are much more accurate than they ever were in AZ. (I just checked the weather back there. Clear, 50ish and windy during the day, no moisture for over two months. Horrible weather, it looks nice but it is cold and the wind cuts right through your clothes.)

So, was that cottage cheese and corn mixed together like the peas and carrots? I’m trying to imagine how that would taste and keep coming up blank.

I swear I didn’t read this before posting my same complaint. Great minds, LOL!

W00t! Gotta start em young! Go Roxy!

I would be so insulted. What a slap in the face.

Every day we are all one day older and one day closer to death.

Wiser words were never spoken/typed.

Just adorable!

Cute needlepoint too.

Horses are big cats. Got it

Hurray for the good CT scan, I hope they continue to stay clear.

HUMPF!!!

I put that Door to Nowhere up for folks like you. It made me happy to think that I was adding a little enchantment to the world.

Both of you were cuties!

I understand perfectly. I miss things about our old stomping grounds, how could I not? Then I look into the forest and it all goes away.

Go you! I’ll bet it looks great!

So not much was achieved today. We went to Tudors for lunch and I had potato soup. It was so good, I wish Hubs liked it, we never have it at home. They begged me to buy some of their pastries for a dollar each so we brought home a chocolate muffin and a big cherry turnover.

The road to the gym is still closed and un-plowed but all of the major roads are open and clear. I haven’t seen any school busses yet, but the trains are running.

Happy Saturday!

It got above freezing today and will make it into the 40s on Moonday.
Then back to frigid.

I acted like a RDOS today, it’s becoming a habit.
I have a lot to do and I need to get my ass in gear.

Spot certainly seems fascinated by snow.

Your dining set looks cool Sticky

I GR are enjoying the snow. Misui often comes in with a snow-covered face.
All three are making me a bit crazy. We haven’t gone to the park in a long time, and they are bored. They want treats all day long. I don’t want them to have so many.
Rayleigh has become a bit like Ripple and will ask me to clean his ears. I can tell he doesn’t like it, but yet he wants it done. I’m sure clean ears feel better for him.
If the other two even think I might clean their ears, they are long gone.

I told a friend I would petsit her dogs for her and now I’m sort of regretting it. I don’t know how they will be here. They know me and my dogs, so I’m not worried about them fighting or anything. I think they will flip out when she leaves. Maybe I’ll take Echo and go to her house. That would probably be easiest.

Due to the disappointing snow, I did not take clackity on the shopping trip. I didn’t do my usual route. I went to area that has a Ross, Burlington, ShopRite, and party store. The party store is closing.

Quite a few stores are closing in phila. The big one is Macy in the Wanamaker building. That hit hard on Thursday. Just one more hit to the east market corridor.

Thanks to all who tried to help me see Spot playing in the snow; I finally did the correct steps in some magical order and held my breath and it worked. Such a good kitty; he was worth waiting for!

Nothing worked for me either.

I’m on full alert. One or more of my downstairs neighbors have been coughing. A few minutes ago, I heard a lot of very loud, labored breathing in the stairwell, and a woman saying, “I can’t breathe! I can’t–I can’t breathe!” You know the breathing is loud when I hear it in my kitchen. I threw on some pants, slipped into shoes, and grabbed my phone, but just as I opened the door, I heard their door close. They’re an older couple. He uses a walker. I’m hoping they’ll call 911 if she’s in bad shape. It could be asthma, and I could be overreacting, but as I may have mentioned, I almost lost my son to asthma (and croup) when he was 4, and I lost a student to asthma. It’s not stuff to mess around with.

I’m also monitoring the fire situation in California. Those poor people losing their homes and all their mementos, plus all the familiar stores and neighborhoods! My cousin is only 15 miles from the Palisades fire. She was putting away their evacuation stuff, as the fire threatening them last Wednesday was contained and the red alerts lifted, but she had to get it all out again. Living on edge that way for so many days has to be exhausting.

flyboy, I’m betting this has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the Fair Labor and Standards Act. AIUI, salaried employees are exempt from the 1.5 times hourly wage rule unless their work doesn’t directly impact company management. It could also be that the Dept. of Labor has investigated because the company has a whole lot of exempt employees, and the DOL, which is now more stringent, is cracking down on those companies.

You might think this would cost the company more money because exempt employees don’t get paid extra for working late. However, the company can start offering flex-time in lieu of OT, which would save some money. If that last one is the case, you might ask yourself how solvent the company is and whether you should continue working there.

I prefer to think of it as “one day closer to watching Matlock reruns.”

Doggio, Spot is squeeee-worthy. So adorable!

WetOne, hooray on the good medical news!

I’ve made kolaches. They’re not difficult or complicated and require no special equipment. You could bring some to the grands! Just something to think about.

VanGo, good for you! Is it the same color as the walls?

What weeks AREN’T we a chatty bunch? I don’t think I know how to do silent any more.

Oopsie, you and your bro are sooooo cute! I wish I could go back in time and meet Little You.

And FCM, the RoxStar is rocking that bonnet! She looks so intelligent, too. I bet she’s G&T material. (Gifted and Talented, just in case you thought I meant gin and tonic. )

I finally got it. I bet I tried 7 times. It’s definitely a snit somewhere.

Spot is bigger than I always visualize him but tre tre cute and I also expected him to yeet that puzzling non compliant bowl right off that table.

I have made them but I can’t any more. I have a gas stove and a gas oven but because I wear supplemental oxygen 24/7 I can’t be within 12 feet of a flame. It’s really hard to put pans of kolaches in and out of a gas oven from 12 feet away. I’ve tried to get Moxie to do her part but she insists she is management, sniffs dismissibly and saunters away. Can’t bake them at my daughter’s 5 miles away because she is severely celiac and wheat flour cannot cross her threshold in any way, shape or form. Actually, egg can’t either because my grandson is epi-pen allergic to eggs.

Harriet, the older grandchild has gotten attached to kolaches her grandfather (my ex) buys her when they meet up at our big farmers market during market season, but his 2nd wife throws up a lot of road blocks to that activity lately so Harriet rarely gets her favorite poppyseed kolache anymore. Sigh…

That’s what I was getting at in my previous post. It’s how we did it a couple of company presidents ago.

We’ve been around 129 years ago this year. Earnings are ‘good’. Not outstanding, but we’re still making a profit. (As a non-profit, the excess goes to benefits.)

Have eaten my big bowl of Pasta and managed to snack on things that are probably good for me (baby carrots and applesauce), so now watching the tackleball on Prime so this may take awhile. Below freezing again so no driving tonight, albeit the roads were pretty dry. Looked at my Sunday Dining rotation and Texas Roadhouse is up, which is good as I like their meals (long as I remember to get my salad without eggs). Otherwise just a quite evening at Casa Rat.

katie, glad you figured it out.

I always think of the old William T. Sherman quote "“I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected.”

Piper, had to look up what “a shot of Screech” was, appears to be a Newfie type of Rum, so hope your insides are happily warm.

Sari, concur, keeping the other dogs in familiar surroundings and visiting them is probably the best option.

nellie, hope neighbor is ok. And fingers crossed for your California cousin.

True enough, but usually we just get to 400 and that on Sunday. Might be with everyone staying home due to the weather…we might even make it to 500 this week.

And Baltimore is whupping the Steelers at half-time so may make it to bed earlier than I thought. Catch y’all on Sunday.
