Yes, Screech is a type of dark Newfoundland rum. It was the official rum of Come from Away during its Broadway run. Highly recommend the play if it’s touring anywhere near any MMPers.
I had lunch. Spot sat on my mouse pad and seethed at me since I only gave him a little lunch meat. I napped. I’m having a La Louisiane and the usual Asian BBQ stir fry. I’m watching Chopped, because if there’s no good competitive sports, there’s always competitive cooking.
When he’s not trying to amputate my hand.
It’s his ego.
Hey, if she wants gin&tonics when she’s 21, I’d be happy.
He likes chasing ice cubes around the kitchen, too.
Classic rock? they use Ozzy to sell minivans now. That’s worse than classic rock.
Felt enough better today to participate in taking back recycling, but just woke up (a little before 11pm. Yes, I’m randomizing again) very queasy. No actual “review of inputs”, to put it politely, but my stomach is informing me it’s rather unhappy in general. Over eight hours since I last ate, so I don’t think I’m having a bad reaction to lunch (Golden Arches Catering). Ugh.
At least DH got his forklift license renewed today, and came home from that review class a bit cheerier.
Up after a pretty decent sleep. We’re going to Linda’s Cafe for breakfast. Linda used to run the cafe on Leonardtown till she lost her lease to Irene. Irene’s was OK, even pretty good at first, but it’s gradually gotten waaaaaay more expensive and considerably less good. Irene seems to have a problem holding on to cooks and servers - one former server hinted that the problem is Irene.
Anyway, Linda moved to a much smaller place in Lexington Park - we went there once but only once. She didn’t have fountain sodas and the restroom was squeezed in a corner by the kitchen. However, a year ago, she got a bigger place (last January) and we’re finally getting around to checking it out. The menu looks good - we’ll see if the food lives up to its former reputation.
On the way home, I’m going to ask FCD to let me run into Aldi - I need onions!! Probably other stuff too, but especially onions. Oh, and a bag of apples. So I have that to look forward to.
Otherwise, it’s a lazy day for me. I’ll try to make some progress on the current blanket, and the dishwasher need to be emptied. Oh, and the ice maker needs to be cleaned (which means running a couple of cycles of vinegar, followed by a couple more cycles of water.) And that’s pretty much it.
The morning temp in 19°, then all sun all the time and temps in the upper 30s. Another perfect indoors day.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 26 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 50 and N.O.S. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Chalice duty, followed by brunch and the annual meetin’. The rest of the day will be devoted to high RDOS inactivities. At least we will eat good.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence. Plus I should probably bake the cabbage casserole.
I’m actually procrastinatng doing mine- sadly not a 20 minute job though, as it involves scraping off all the old paper residue. I’m not sure if I’ll need to cover with lining paper first as well, as there’s a few cracks and things, or if I can get away with using filler.
Hopefully the room should be really nice when I actually get stuff done- though at this rate it’ll be a good few years. I may have overestimated how much free time and energy I’ll have. I need a 1950s housewife who can do all the cooking and cleaning to free up some time- and maybe a 1950s husband to help with the DIY stuff. I’m not sure what my role would be in that arrangement though…
I’m showered and dressed. I refilled 4 weeks of meds in my various caddies. We’ll leave for breakfast in about 15 minutes. It’s mostly light outside, which is a good sign.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 3c/38f with no predicted change, and mostly sunny. Weather app says “Well, fuck me sideways, the fucking sun is out.” Yes, it’s true, there was sun earlier but not at the moment.
We have a lot of small hand carwash places, they appear to be mainly run by Eastern European immigrants and involve a couple of guys with a pressure washer and some other guys who do the drying and polishing. There’s one on my route from the gym to the pet store, so I swing by that one every so often when the outside of the car gets really mucky. I do the inside myself because I am able to, but we don’t have a pressure washer at home so doing the job myself would require time and many buckets of soapy water. Mr Araz and his crew can do it in a fraction of time, and I’m happy to pay them for it.
flyboy The shift from salaried to hourly does seem rather an odd thing to do, upsetting a system that didn’t need to be fixed.
One of my friends is a luthier, he regularly posts stuff on farcebook about projects he’s working on. It’s fascinating seeing him create a complete instrument and bring it to life.
Excellent news! Celebrate with a jammies day!
Self-care is very individual - if twinkly lights and a snoozy cat are what does it for you, then that’s what you do. There’s no wrong or right to it either. Mine would be similar - sofa, book, lap cat, and a cup of tea within reach.
Swapping leftovers sounds ideal, my chilli recipe makes four portions so I always have leftovers in the freezer
doggio Spot did not look too impressed with his bowl of snow!
VanGo sorry to hear your dad didn’t visit, a 7hr drive is a lot to ask of anyone! Yay for no jury duty and being productive though!
Sticky Buns I love the dining room set up!
Red love the birthday cards, another very talented mumper
Yesterday was a busy but fun day. I went to the gym in the morning, came home via the pet store to get cat litter and treats, then put some dye on my hair when I got back. We walked into town, had lunch at a new Indian place (chicken tikka wrap for me), then went off to do our errands. We met in the pub later, did some day drinking there, then went elsewhere because that pub was cold. We made out way home, stopped off to get pizza for dinner, and bought an extra large one so we have leftovers for lunch.
I’ve got chicken curry for dinner, I had some spare portions in the freezer so we’ll have that along with some rice. Then I need to work out next week’s meal plans, and get my grocery list together. I think this afternoon should be devoted to drinking tea, slothing on the sofa, and generally doing nothing apart from reading.
We got a bit of snow yesterday, but most of it melted when it hit the ground and the rest didn’t last much longer. 31F/-1C and sunny now; predicted high 38F. Looks like no precipitation until next Saturday’s 30% chance of rain. It’s actually supposed to go over 40F tomorrow.
Morning all. Sunday NY Times acquired along with milk and bananas, so just slothing until it’s time to get ready for Texas Roadhouse. There is still snow on the ground but the roads are clear and dry and the temperature is due to get to 45F this afternoon, so I think we’ve seen our winter weather for the season here in N. Ali-bama. Will probably go to the gym later to do penance for all those dinner rolls and french fries I am going to eat, but nothing much else on the agenda.
Nettie, hope you get to feeling better soon.
I don’t go out of my way to find them, but when I run across them they are always entertaining. IMHO of course. And you should submit your quote to them, I bet they would draw it…
FCM, hope breakfast was good.
boo fae, most of the car washes here are pretty much all-automatic, wash, rinse and dry all by machines, there are a few hand-wash places but none of them are close.
OK, onward to the Sunday internettin’, then in about 2 hours put on the fancy Sunday clothes and shoes and dine out. Have a good one all.
It was pretty good, but it wasn’t $51 (including tip) good! Then again, we did get a couple of the more expensive items. We could have gotten fed for about half that much - we’ll try that next time. Oh, their home fries were definitely very yum!
And I did run into Aldi, so I have a sack of gala apples, a sack of yellow onions, and two bags of chips for FCD. I’d already emptied the dishwasher and the ice maker is on its second clean cycle with vinegar - after I empty that, it’ll be 2 cycles with fresh water, then I can make ice. Go me!
It’s 38F and cloudy outside. It’ll remain generally cloudy all day, and our high temperature will top out at 44F. I read this morning that we’ve officially entered El Nina, but I doubt we’ll see any snow because of it.
Mr. Taters wants to go to out to lunch today. I don’t want to go anywhere, but we’ll go because it’ll do him some good to get out of the house. It’ll probably do me good too.
It’s too bad you can’t put Spot on a leash, Doggio. It would be fun to see him trying to walk in the snow.
boo-fae, we have fully automatic, self-wash, and combo washes here. I tend to go to the automatic one, where they knock most of the gunk off with a power washer, and then it runs through the carwash. Even though it’s a PITA, I just prefer to hand wash it myself. The car washes never get all the weird little angles and curves on my Jeep, especially the little spot where the rear bumper starts to wrap around the side of the Jeep.
I hope you start feeling better soonest, Nettie.
VanGo, I hope you get a good price for your lathe. I’m sorry your folks couldn’t make it up to visit.
The dogs weren’t bathed yesterday, but I vacuumed the entire upstairs of the house, the stairs, and the entryway. This included lifting the grates on the floor vents and sucking any hair or dust out of them. I also vacuumed the walls because I had noticed a couple of tiny cobwebs the other day. I need to get the great room and downstairs hallway vacuumed today. I also need to take care of laundry.
Tomorrow, the pups have their vet appointments (shots, nail trim, and I’m getting Buster checked out for some spots on his skin).
Finally, I’m very annoyed. The USPS tracker for my daughter’s package hasn’t been updated since the 8th of January. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday. The last update stated it was POTENTIALLY delayed due to weather. I get there has been weather, but I have no idea where it stopped or if it actually moved. It departed Oklahoma on the 6th or 7th. It’s not all that far from Oklahoma to Missouri, damn it.
