(Old) The Snowed In MMP

As was my mother’s.

I occasionally sautee them together to go with pork chops. Makes for a nice cool weather dish.

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinated, breakfasted, dinner in the crock and fixing to do KP / Sunday chores. Not a whole lot planned for the day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Am I the only one who’s thinking that watching Doggio try to put a leash on Spot could be entertaining?

Probably better to stick with the snow. Definitely safer.

Baked oatmeal breakfast cups, lime poppyseed cake, two loaves of sourdough (better than previous attempts, but still need improvement) and made lunch (chicken with red curry sauce) and am thinking about dinner plans. Kitchen’s a bit of a mess, but that the consequence of being productive.

Maybe I’ll just go do some exercises, which would make my back happier. Didn’t go for a walk today as yesterday’s walk resulted in a blister. Next weekend I need to get different shoes for walking.

Another car wash is being built down the street. That will make three within a 2 mile radius. Being in a townhouse, I don’t have a working house hook up so I go to the car wash, but I do it myself because the automatic is $10.

It is snowing. I did make it to CVS for a prescription then to Jewel for ice and Chicken in a Biskit crackers. I love those things 50 years ago and I haven’t had them in decades. They were on sale so I thought I must buy them to munch on while I watch the Packers V Eagles. Go Eagles!

Hey, I have a question for @JaneDoe42.

My daughter does hand embroidery (she’s pretty good, too!) and is looking for a lighthouse pattern that doesn’t have a lot of fill stitches. It’s like line art, basically. But with interesting stitches, too. It’s kind of like this one - a variety of stitches and not huge spaces to fill.

example

When she searches online, she only gets cross-stitch (which is close) or stuff for machine embroidery.

Do you have any suggestions?

Morning, all! It’s currently sunny and 36° (on its way to 38°F), and I’m happy about temps that are above freezing. Tomorrow is supposed to be even better: mostly sunny with an expected high of 45°F (!). It gets quite cold again on Tuesday, but next Fri/Sat/Sun are supposed to climb back above freezing.

One of the things I love about where I live is that pretty much any kind of ethnic food is available locally – there’s even a (very good) pasty shop nearby!

Turns out today is not the day that my hermit-like tendencies will end. I do need to go to the UPS Store at some point…maybe tomorrow I’ll acknowledge the relative warmth by taking a long lunch break.

My Sunday plans include much slothing (I’ve decided to re-watch Downton Abbey for the third or fourth time), broken up by the occasional ~2-hour Lego session. Yesterday I built the Pac-Man game board, which features two “chains” that allow a Pac-Man and a few ghosts to go around in circles, and it involved hundreds of tiny pieces – including 64 yellow dots made up of three pieces each – and was quite painstaking. My fingers were kinda sore last night! But what’s left now is mostly just finishing the arcade cabinet, with relatively big pieces, so I think the last 5 bags won’t take nearly as long as the game board’s 3 bags did. I should finish the set today.

Somehow I missed this yesterday: I laughed when he pawed at the snow after licking it, even though I wasn’t surprised. Pets are so entertaining!

Oh no…that’s how my 2-week cold started. I hope this is just a 24-hour thing for you! :crossed_fingers:

Aww, thanks both of you! Little Me was sweet and a very good kid, but super naive – and I pretty much stayed like that until college.

I was also a pretty bossy older sister. Some of it was just natural (big sisters are gonna boss), but also my brother had ADHD and some psychological issues pretty much from day one and grownups were always saying things to me like “can’t you make your brother practice the piano?” or “can’t you make your brother brush his teeth?” He’s only 19 months younger than me, so we did a lot of things – like piano lessons and dentist appointments – together. Of course, I didn’t realize that I’d been treated like my brother’s keeper until I was an adult (and it never happened in front of either parent). That was such a huge “A HA!” moment.

(Similar to the moment when I realized I had to worry about turning into my father much more than I had to worry about turning into my mother, but that’s not a story for the MMP…)

HEY! That was totally uncalled for. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

(:stuck_out_tongue:)

Paper? On a ceiling…?

I do that for my evening meds. Nearly all of my meds are in their respective bottles, lined up on the kitchen counter (the calcium I only take at lunchtime is on my desk): I’m really good about taking the morning pills, but a while back I found that I had a tendency to skip the evening dosages out of laziness. So I filled my favorite caddy – 7 containers with 3 sections each – with just my evening meds, and I keep it on the coffee table shelf. It’s helped a lot! Every 21 days I refill the whole thing.

I love chicken tikka! You might have just inspired me to have a Naanwich for lunch.

As was my grandfather’s.

Oh wow, I used to love those too – and also haven’t had them in years! I might be a little jealous/might have to look for them the next time I go to the store!

Dad loved those, with spray cheese. I bought a box for The Missus a few years ago, but I didn’t eat any.

I use Alexa as my brain for the evening meds, mostly because of timing. I try to take my anti-seizure meds 12 hours apart, more or less. But if I waited till bedtime, it could be anywhere from 14 to 18 hours apart, which probably isn’t good. So at 7 each evening, my electronic brain nags me.

FCD and I have been discussing his fuel tanks. I’m trying to convince him that aluminum or stainless steel tanks would just be overkill. The tanks we have are almost 40 years old and they’re just now having to be replaced. I hope he’ll listen and make them out of mild steel. The difference in cost is pretty significant. And if we’re having the work done at the local boat yard, the hourly rate will be more than across the bay… The engineer in him wants only the best. But I’m the finance manager. We’ll see who prevails.

The ice maker is clean and making ice again. I’m thinking it’s about time to assume the crochet position and find something to steam while my fingers are busy.

It was last decorated in the 1980s I think. Paper on the ceiling was absolutely standard then over here; I’m lucky it’s not woodchip on there and carpet in the bathroom.

We still use wallpaper a lot in the UK anyway, cos most of our houses are old and at least a bit wonky and paper is better for covering minor cracks in plaster than paint is. Normally on the ceiling it’s just plain white, but often textured to hide the uneven-ness.

“Each compartment of the large pill organizer can store up to 8 fish oils or 14 capsules.” So does that mean 14 caps in each of the daily holderss, or 3x14 caps with 14 in each segment?

I’m from Maine, so go Sox!

Very lightly snowing here in western Mitten State. Car had a bit of trouble getting up the driveway, so I’m hoping we don’t get too much more while I’m at work.

But I’m “early out” tonight, so hopefully it won’t be a late end to my day.

I have Tuesday off, a real weekend!

Awoke quite blurfy after only a coupla hours sleep - not sure what that was all about - but lotsa water and several hours more sleep helped.

Having the last of the quiche I made the other day & sipping a semi restorative hot cuppa Lipton. (It’s waaayyyy too hot & I didn’t add enough sugar.)

Monkey is bored as hell. I tossed him a bunch of treats to chase, and gave him some squeezy-crack (plus refreshed his water bowl) but he’s still yeeting random small objects.

Time to slowly start thinking about eventually moving towards locating cleans socks’n’undies, and getting on with the day.

Up early and worked on a project from the office that I brought home on Friday. Major step completed for tomorrow!

Now I’ve run errands and I’m in my local pub, nursing a Guinness and waiting for the shepherd’s pie.

A bit chilly in the pub. Cold weather comes in every time the door opens.

**purplehorseshoe,**Mrs. Nott keeps the recipe for my birthday peach pie in the pie pan. Every year, she goes on a frantic search for it, until she gets the pan out.
This week’s Blues Revue on WVPE was heavy on Sam&Dave and The Fabulous Thunderbirds because Sam Moore died, and it’s Kim Wilson’s birth week. RIP, Sam.
I’m told this area has a serious Polish population. I haven’t met any of them yet, but I imagine there’s some pierogi trafficking here. I need to get out more.

I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a very nummy brunch (foodstuffs and deserts aplenty!) and survived sat through the annual meetin’. A couple from the church are leavin’ to relocate to a retirement place near one of their daughters’ home, so we gave them a send off as well. Sad they’re leavin’ but understand it’s time to do so. The Altar flowers were tres cool today. The arrangement was in honor of Jimmy Carter and included a hammer, saw, plane, and a box of nails. I should have gotten a pic. Maybe some will show up on the book of faces and maybe I will figure out how to share.

Nice!!!

I don’t know what happened to the rest of my quotes!

Another day when I’m not sure what exactly has been going on. I know there was napping, granola making, and a trip to the mall, but I’m fuzzy on any other details.

Tomorrow should be interesting. I’m going to a 40 hour training program for peer support specialists this coming week. I’m excited about it, but not really so much about the drive up to Akron in this weather. I guess I am officially old. Really, if I didn’t have to be there at a specific time, it would be different.

I cleaned, laundered, and napped. Spot napped with me till I got a toe cramp, then he got offended and left. Got hockey on, and handegg.

File that one under “It’s all fun and games till someone loses an eye.”

“Where the gin in this thing?” - Spot

Is Sobieski Savings and Loan still around? The closer you get to South Bend, the more Polish, Hungarian and Czech things get, or at least they used to.

What a fitting tribute!

It hit a balmy 49F this afternoon, so most of the snow is gone. However, it’s supposed to get down to the teens tonight with the possibility of crap falling from the sky.

Worked on a project in the studio this afternoon and am now chilling until bedtime.

The newest Sadie photo, which I think is quite good.

Happy Sunday

It warmed up a bit today but I am still cold
Although I woke up last night and I was hot, which was nice while it lasted

Frustrating day as I was having a problem with an app on my phone

Red, I wish my dogs would play with me but they don’t. They don’t play with me at all and very seldom play with my son. They won’t play indoors at all. If they start to get a little wound up with each other they go outside. They like attention and affection, but no playing.
Maybe because they have each other to play with
Rayleigh will chase the ball a little outside with my son, but not for long
Rayleigh started something new where he wants to hold my hand. He will lay next to me and hold my hand under his paw. He doesn’t want any pats or scritches, just leave my hand there.

Lady SCAdian said it reminds her of our cats and their water bowl.

That’s quite the bib she has there.
