(Old) The Snowed In MMP

Got up predawn, on my day off!, to get med tests. I dressed for an mri, no metal, ready to jump in. Turns out it was an ultrasound sound and I could have worn jeans. They were very good in and out within a half hour.

Then on to bloodwork. That went quickly as well. The 9 am shuttle was looking good. I decided to get a Cinnabon for breakies. Got to the shuttle stop in time.

On schedule for today is taking down the lobby trees and a bit of organizing in the secret room.

I went in, she copied my I.D.s. she said I would be paid for an hour for this. 15.
The manager has just left the country for 2 weeks!
She does not know when I start training, but after training, I will be sent to the store closer to me, which is great.
22 degrees out, yuck.
Bible study tonight.

SCAdian hope you feel better soon

She saw you eyeing those items out of your peripheral vision and knew what was coming.

The_Stainless_Steel_Rat please don’t drown.

Local meteorologists here are predicting anywhere from 0-10 inches of snow tomorrow and Friday. So that means we will get 0 inches of snow. But just in case, I’ll do a bread and milk Diet Coke run over lunch. They’re so bad at predicting snow around here that we could also end up with a whiteout blizzard, who knows.

But I would be happy if we could get just 2-3 inches of the pretty fluffy stuff.

Interesting. I wonder what the closest U.S. equivalent would be … a jar of Better Than Buillion, maybe?

Over four thousand degrees?! My god, your bakeware must be made of Kryptonite and diamonds.

Alright, that’s a good start. An hour’s pay is a nice lil’ bit to toss to the wolves howling around your door.

I genuinely hope the stars (and circumstances) align for you on this one.

We’ve had the snow equivalent of a light drizzle since yesterday evening, so my car has a touch o’white on it.

Monkey has more than a touch o’cabin fever, so I let him out. Twice. Each time he came shooting back in, all fluffed out & indignant.

He’s currently howling at the door again.

Up way earlier than I’d like to be on a day off, so the plan is/has been to derp around on my phone, eat something, and then hopefully crash back out.

… and then be productive.

Yeah. That’s it.

I did retrieve my clean laundry (and turned off the reminder lights on the stairs) and have corralled a bunch of household trash for removal.

So that’s something mildly productive.

At some point, I’ll hafta put on pants to take the trash outside & also go to the Corner Sto’ because someone keeps plowing through my “I’m off work, dammit” booze stash.
{ glares at Monkey }

Speaking of Monks, and trash, I need to either scoop his box (meh!) or decide if the random box occupying kitchen floor space is big enough to serve as a full-on replacement, and just toss the whole thing of the old one.

It’s on the smallish side, but man, would that be easier.

Survey says … ?

I have a cuppa black bean soup steeping at the moment. Breakfast of champions!
Added kielbasa, green onion, and minced (jarred, don’t judge) garlic. There’s sour cream in the fridge, too, if I just hafta gild the lily.

(Fartfest surely to follow. Maybe I’ll just sleep through those festivities.)

The stars align. I haven’t read astrology for a long time. I wonder if there are any conjunctions up there.

SCAdian, that is so scary! I hope you feel better very very soon!

shoe, I’m of the opinion that pants are highly overrated. I’ve been in what my kids have been calling my “formal pajamas” since Friday. You’re a better person than I am.

It’s day 297 of snowmageddon here. Well, it feels that way anyway. Thanks to lots of ice, most of the roads are still down to one lane or less. I’m hoping to go to the grocery later today, but if the roads are still not great, we won’t starve if we wait until tomorrow. At least it’s sunny.

I’ve got nothin’ - my back is getting to the itchy stage of healing, so that’s good news. And the glue is starting to flake off. I can’t wait to go for a walk or lift something. I’ve been secretly doing squats to keep my legs from getting sore (inactivity hurts) and it doesn’t seem to have had any negative side effects so I’m going to add in a couple of other things that don’t engage my back beyond basic stability. My husband freaks out when I move, but the trend with all my doctors is that they want you to move toward regular function as soon as possible as long as it doesn’t hurt.

Work is weird. It’s the calm before the storm and the Powers that Be made the remarkably stupid decision to demote a friend of mine from a peer to an employee and I hate it. I’m glad we have a good relationship, but I assume it was almost entirely financially motivated and it’s awkward. We had new leadership come in and they’re more of the “slash & burn” variety. I’m under no illusions that they wouldn’t chuck me out a window at the slightest provocation - they just happen to find me generally likeable.

Not planning on it, I personally think that is the worst way to go (of course, being hanged, drawn and quartered or being burned alive are not great either…).

52, expect the stores to be madhouses, hope you can find your provisions.

Well, I know that there are conjunctions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AyjKgz9tKg

Sweatpants for me.

talkie, Just don’t overdo and I’m sure you’ll be fine. And sounds like the work environment is getting toxic; hope they back off some.

Actually been rather productive this morning. Got my application to visit England done, it was a bit of a hassle (the pictures had to be just so), but I got my approval about 45 seconds after submitting it, so that was efficient at least. Then booked my flights from JFK to London in June (it was cheapest by nearly $1,000 from there) and I’ll worry about getting to New York later. And since I was throwing money (credit) around, I ordered a graphic novel for the ending of the animated series Final Space since they are not going to have a final season on Video. Now need to get out of the house before I spend any more, the budget is definitely being stretched (and still need to get my car serviced sometime soon). RDOS problems, I guess. First meal has been eaten so calories are there to burn off.

Onward!

As in a 53 footer filled with packages all being returned to Amazon. Which bricked up the Mez for 4 hours, even with 6 clerks(including me) working on it, and there are still 10 bags of it to process tomorrow. Rumor has it the trailer was sitting around since December. Whether here of at Da Jungle, I’m thinking somebody is getting promoted to customer soon. Elsewhere in the building, the Chaos Level had been downgraded from “Ultra” to “Severe”. It was 28 degrees and windy, which means we are now in the part of winter where the air hurts my face. Also there is supposed to be a SNOWPOCALYPSE(1 inch of snow, and maybe some ice) Friday night into Saturday.

I was at work at 0330.

They remind me of creatures from Star Trek:
Spock: “Sensors are picking up a Lagevrio.”
Kirk: “A Lagevrio? Isn’t that what ate Ensign Robert’s skull on Delta Tau IV?”
Feel better, and:

So it was open Mike night?

Not nibbled to death by ducks?

So…were you temporarily awake?

Yes.

Today called for bean soup and cornbread so I am trying a new recipe that calls for half a pound of bacon, rendered. Ok, now I have a small amount of bacon grease, some cooked bacon meat and a pile of fried bacon fat. According to the recipe, I am supposed to use the fried bacon fat for seasoning but I’m kinda ??? about that.

Hubs wants to just eat all of it and I am really sure that fried bacon fat isn’t the best thing for a man running on two partially clogged heart valves. But I also don’t want to deprive him of a treat if its safe for him to be eating.

What say you all?

Truth. (Except when it’s really cold out and/or for formal occasions, such as a Wal-Mart expedition.)

I love that phrase.

Why? I literally wear pajama pants to work (get compliments on them, even!) and have been haunting Amazon to perhaps bring me some scrubs.
With pockets.

I haven’t even worn jeans in a couple years.

Wore my used-to-be favorite jeans a while ago (stretchy, flattering but not too snug) and was like, “Ugh. What is this ‘zipper’ nonsense? Get me back into my yoga/jammy pants.”

That entire paragraph gave me the heebie-jeebies.

I went to bed around 3:30 and was all proud of myself for turning in early.

I say, give it to me.

I’ll bet George and Jolene would like some.

Not-good type of excitement this morning. Roxy woke with a fever and a really stiff neck. Her doctor didn’t have any early openings, so they took her to the ER. Three hours later, she’s finally being discharged. No viral infection, pretty sure it’s not meningitis - they think it’s just a really bad muscular issue.

I’ve had Tobias since I picked him up at the ER. Daughter is taking Roxy home and working from home till it’s supper time - then they’ll come here for sketties. Always something, and starting the day with a scare is no fun. Meanwhile, I get to experience the TV selections Tobias makes. At least it’s not Peppa Pig.

I’m going to try to make an apple cake for dessert - wonder if it’s something Tobias can help with. Probably not, but we’ll see.

That’s life up-to-the-minute in FairyChatLand.

Well, apparently I haven’t posted her in over a year.

I’m currently waiting for a CT scan, which was ordered like a month ago, and I had to think today about why the NP even ordered it. Was it the fatigue, or was that not so bad yet? Probably the nausea, which is getting better since the other NP realized I was low on Vitamin D. Anyway, I have been quite ill for a while, and I seem to myself to be much more forgetful now.

Anyway, probably not actually diabetic yet? So that’s good.

Welcome back!

What say you all?

Hard-hearted night nurse here. Don’t give it to him unless he’s made his appt for his bypass/stent consultation and it is in the next 3 business days and he understands that there will be no excuses for not keeping that appt and agreeing to the treatment the cardiologists advise, none zero zip. Not blizzard not a hangnail not a really good invite from Harry to go to the best ever deluxe hunting cabin with 5g.

The bacon meat (fat rendered away and DISCARDED, preferably poured into used kitty litter) is ok to eat occasionally as a treat, maybe weekly.

Thank you. I kinda figured it was off his list of things to do anymore.

Correction: 31st.

We have four of these (two large, two small):
