(Old) The Standard(Time) MMP

Afternoon all!

I’m still at the dealership waiting for my car to be done. One bad tank of gas is going to wind up costing me ~$600. They’re flushing the whole fuel system and replacing the filter. Apparently, there are a little bit of diesel in the mix. I’ll not get gas at the ExxonMobil station close to irk again.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

*sigh*

Got a fraud alert text from my credit union. No, I did no authorise the [declined] $55 charge from Just Answer. ‘OK, your card is blocked. Contact Customer Service for a new card.’

Remember when I tried to buy a fuel tank from England? When there was a ‘delivery exception’ I tried to track it using the tracking number. To do that, I had to pay a dollar to Just Answer. They were no help. They couldn’t tell me where the package was. I eventually got an email from eBay saying that the motorcycle part is a ‘restricted item’ and would not be delivered. Big help, Just Answer! So Just Answer tried to charge me for my ‘membership’. I didn’t consent to a subscription; so no, the charge was not authorised and was rightfully declined. In the meantime, Just Answer cancelled my ‘membership’ today because their charge was declined. So no worries about them trying to charge me again.

But now I have a blocked credit card, so I have to use the card I was trying not to use as much. I tried to call the credit union, but they’re closed because tomorrow is a holiday. I tried calling the 24-hour lost/stolen card number twice, but was disconnected both times. I can’t talk to anyone to tell them to unblock my card, and don’t send me a new card.

Agreed, particularly about having a close relationship with the groom.
Leaper Do you hang out with the groom during breaks? Eat lunch with him? Get together outside of work for: meals, going to a bar for a drink, participation on sports teams, watching sports together either in person or on tv, other activities?

Man, I absolutely hate when this happens and it happens way too freaking often!

I have so much to do and I’ve just been slothing. Now I feel guilty. Ugh! And I’m having heartburn. Double ugh.

Here here!

boofae enjoy your 5 days off! Do you have to walk a picket line?

wetone I’m so sorry for your fall and the pain it has caused. Hoping it won’t take too long to be back in good walking health.

red oh heck, that’s too bad. Doesn’t sound like you accidentally put diesel in but rather the fuel supplier must have put diesel in the regular tank then tried to drain it out and didn’t get it all. Shucks that you have to bear the cost of what sounds like their mistake.

I really want to leave the shop, but da Jungle claims a package is out for delivery with Fedex. They usually show up around 10 AM, but it’s not here yet.

flyboy Card intrusions are such a PITA. Good luck.

Howdy Y’all! Sloth and general overall uselessness was in high gear today. We et an early sup and the kitchen is all cleanded up. All in all, not a bad day.

Pilot I am, indeed, an early riser. However, if I stay up 'til ten p.m., I feel like I’ve been up until the wee hours. Besides, if I don’t arise early, I might not have time for nappage. One must prioritize.

FlyBoy sucks about the card. Hope you can get it unlocked.

WetOne Hope the cause is found and you’re all better soonest.

Taters here’s hopin’ you got to see your mom on her bday.

red YIKES! Sorry that happened to you.

Now I’ve removed 5 fans (some with help because they’re in awkward places) and cleaned them. They were gross. (Not our doing; we haven’t had this property for a long time, and my guess is some were last cleaned more than 10 years ago.)

Hubs asked why I was boiling water while getting ready to put the bread in the oven. I told him it was because I was going to put a baking pan of boiling water on the bottom rack to add some steam for the crust. (this recipe calls for boiling water, usually they call for ice…hmmmm)

His response: We have a bottom rack? /opens oven and sees both racks/ Wow, learn something new every day!

I don’t know if my experience is typical, but my credit union told me once the card is blocked, you have to wait for a new one. Royal pain in the patoot it is…

Daughter and SIL claimed their spawn a bit after 4. FCD and MIL arrived before they all left, so they had a mini-visit. Supper was good and I now have the house to myself while they go to the hospital. The quiet is wonderful!

My car won’t be done till Moanday. Paul said UPS was later than usual - after 2 instead of before 10. No biggie for me, tho. We have wheels to get us thru the weekend.

I shall resume my blissfully quiet chillage.

Honeys…I’m hooooommmmme!

I swung through Kroger after the car got fixed, came home, walked Nelson, put away groceries and fixed a frozen pizza with a salad for supper. Tomorrow, I’ll tackle most of the usual Friday chores.

Had mini-groc, fine beaching, and will soon have leftovers for dinner then walk over to the live music district for some more or less random drinking & music-listening from one bar or another.

Having gotten up stupid early, tonight is not ideal for staying up late, but I’ll try.

My first post of the day is rarely in the evening, but I jumped on my personal computer to do something else before dinner and figured while I was here… Plus I’m not likely to post tomorrow morning due to having a 10am personal training session, and for some reason I didn’t want to wait until Sunday.

Yesterday’s inurnment of my friend – a retired US Navy Commander who lost her battle with cancer in March 2022 at the age of 64 – at Arlington National Cemetery was just perfect. The weather was 75°F and mostly sunny (vs today’s 51 and rainy), the ceremony was beautiful and moving, and while of course the cemetery folks have these things down to a science we never felt rushed or hurried. Earlier today I watched the video I took of the 21-gun-salute and the playing of Taps, and some stupid dust got in my eye. It was heartening to get to see her widow again, as well as a few of her family members and some other mutual friends: they all live in CA and WA, and I hadn’t seen them in 5 years. My friend died a week before she would have turned 65, and I’m hoping to go back to the cemetery sometime that week to see her headstone. I was unable to attend the celebration of her life in WA last year; it was healing to get to finally say goodbye.

At Wednesday’s dinner I was seated next to and across from two women who’d gone to college with my friend: one is a pilot with American, and the other recently retired as a pilot with United. So, oddly enough, I found myself thinking of Pilot the other night.

I was supposed to have a personal training session at 6:30pm yesterday, but pretty much as soon as I woke up I realized that by the time I got through the ceremony and lunch and hanging out with everyone I would be exhausted. Luckily, my trainer was able to reschedule for today and I went at 11am. When I joined the gym ~4 months ago they did a body composition scan during my eval session, and this morning I finally had another one: the results were…not great. I’ve gained 6 pounds, only 2 of which are muscle, and my body fat has increased 0.5%. I’m 99% sure that what’s happened is I’ve been subconsciously using the training sessions as an “excuse” to snack more (at home) and make worse choices (at home), so it’s time to turn that ship around. Also, I definitely need to add some cardio to my routine. I’m now a little low-key-concerned about what my next labs might show (I get blood drawn in two weeks), but I’ll be meeting with my nurse practitioner from the bariatric center in early December and I’m hoping to have lost a pound or two by then. At the very least, I’ll have a plan when I see her.

Right now my plan is to have some dinner and finish watching S3 of Upload on Amazon.

So, nothing gets past him? LOL!

So I won’t be in the Mez, since apparently no one else in the department has the skills to do things like turn a belt on and off, and throw bags in an empty trailer. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: After work, I ran Carmen through the wash, and got my oil changed at the quick change place. Which was not quick, since one tech had his arm in a sling, and the other showed up an hour and a half late, leave 1 tech for 2 bays. But I had to kill time till the fish counter at HT opened up, so I waited.
< forgets to hit send 7 hours ago >
Up from naptime, having a margarita and fish tacos. Watching hockey.

Try a calming essetial oil, like chloroform.

I  this. Or since it is Wednesday, I :black_heart: this.
And the card thing sucks.

Did he borrow GG’s brain?

Ouch, red.

My plan is to not say anything when they put in a new mobile behind us…just to wait and see how long it takes before he notices, LOL!!!

In his defense, we have only owned that oven for five years. He would have figured it out sooner or later.

Change in plans here. After dinner we went to Hobby Lobby to buy a fake Xmas tree. Neither of us have had anything bigger than a tabletop model for a few years now, and certainly not since we’ve been together. Our current apartment isn’t exactly spacious, but if we get one of the slimmer models we can at least have something non-lame looking.

Believe it or not, they were nearly out of trees. Six weeks before Xmas. We ended up buying the display example of the one we wanted. Which was in fine shape with the box, so no harm done. Of course we got there close to closing so we did not have time to shop for the rest of the decorative BS. We’ll be doing the middle-America retail rounds tomorrow: Hobby Lobby, Target, & Wal*Mart to ensure we make our contribution to China’s GDP.

I was talking to the manager person and she suggested they might not be getting another round of seasonal goods before Xmas; what you see is what they have to sell. So anyone who has not yet gotten all their Xmas tchotchkes (is that ecumenical enough for everyone? ) might want to get a move on. It seems supplies are going quickly.

If all goes to plan I’ll have a more complete tchotchke supply report for y’all tomorrow evening.

Got back home from lugging the tree to and fro, set it aside in the living room in its box, then it was just about time to go to music. But we sat down on the couch and that was the end of that. I’d be happy to go as long as I didn’t need to stand up again. We’ll be christening the eggnog I bought a couple days ago here in a few minutes when I regain sufficient ambition to stand up again.

ya know because I’dbe the evil heartless prick in this situation…Id slip something in his meds so the next time he pulled this stunt hed get what he wanted …

maybe he got some more on the trade-in for them? something you should watch out for is grief/depression/guild buying …since he is going through a lot

Charming.

Oh, bless his heart.

I am so stealing this one.

I snort-laughed.

Happy Friday!

No park today. Petey is sick and nobody else was going.

My son got off at 430, and it took me an hour to pick him up. I got a cramp in my leg and it took a while to get out of bed. When I got to the garage, the door was locked and I didn’t have the right key, so I had to go back to the house to get it. One of the things on my ToDo List is to get all the keys organized and on the correct keyrings. Every door in this house has a different key. It’s very annoying. I wanted to get key code door knobs but they are expensive.

We were supposed to go to the dump this morning, but it rained. Instead, I went back to bed and slept from 10 to 230.

You may be right Nellie, that there is something deep. that keeps my son from wanting to drive. I don’t know what it is, and maybe he doesn’t even know.
I keep waiting (hoping) for the day he finally says, okay, let’s get my license.
He has always been stubborn about stuff, but usually he would wake up one day and say okay, I’m not wearing a diaper anymore, or okay, I’m going to go to school without arguing anymore.
You put the idea in his head, give him a little time to think about it, and he will decide to do it. Nagging and fussing makes him more stubborn.
There’s a woman I see when I drop my son off that is going through the same thing, only with two sons. One about my son’s age and one about 10 years older. They refuse to get their license, then complain if she takes too long to pick them up.
She told them, get your license and you can drive yourselves home.

Do you really need to add your SIL? She’s not blood, so it could be understandable.

I don’t understand it, she doesn’t understand it.

Her first name is the same as mine. One day before I knew who she was, some man walked out of irk and yelled her name to say Hi and all. Then he said you really need to make your son get his license. Kind of freaked me out until I realized he was talking to her, not me.

We stopped by the old house on the way to irk last night. We never saw Adam, who usually comes running when he hears us. I knew my son was very upset. I found out this morning that the neighbor is keeping him in at night. I think they want to make him an indoor cat. I’m not sure how well that will irk.

Happy New Car, FCM

I’m not a fan of keeping cars forever. I think because I had lived alone for so long with no support that I absolutey have to have reliable transportation. I don’t have a spouse or family nearby to help out.

Happy Belated Doperversary, Swampy

I’m glad you are still posting with us Pilot

My new house came with those newer toilets, Lily. They are nice.

I once made ugly cookies for Thanksgiving. I got a lot of teasing about it, but there wasn’t one left over.

Taters, there are two streets in this town with the same name. I lived on one of them. They are nowhere near each other. I couldn’t tell you how many times GPS or Google Maps sent people to the other street. Used to piss me off because I would tell people about it and did they listen? Of course not. My street was easy to get to, 70 to 40 to my street. The other street was a little more complicated to get to and to get back out of.
I used to tell people, get out of the neighborhood and when you get back on the main drag, turn left at the first light. No, I do not know the name of the main drag, nor do I know the name of the road you’re turning onto, but if you get about a mile down the road and see the bright yellow house with purple shutters, you are heading in the right direction.
If those people ever repaint their house it’s going to cause a lot of trouble, because everybody up here knows the yellow house with the purple shutters.

My son never noticed the third rack in the dishwasher. It’s been less than 2 months though, so maybe eventually?

The next three days should be busy. There are still boxes to unpack. I have no idea where my winter clothes are.
I’m thinking of buying a new mattress even though mine is only 2 years old. I think I’m getting leg cramps because the bed is so high and I really have trouble getting in it. Getting out is great though.
The bedframe is 14 inches high and the mattress is 12 inches. I kind of have to shove off to push myself into the bed. It would be cheaper to get a new frame, that could be lower to the ground.

I approve. Indoor cats are safe cats who aren’t killing birds.

Even if he gets out, he will know where he lives now. If you took him with you, he would be lost in a new area with strange animals and people.

/sighs/ Yeah, I know, good cookies get et no matter how they look, but Mom has never asked me to make Christmas cookies before so I want to do it right.

swampy, thanks for the praise about my baking skillz, but I’m just a good technical baker. I know how to read and follow recipes, I don’t have the creative skillz that you and so many others have.

The artisan bread recipe was surprisingly good, but I made a couple of mistakes so the first loaves got pitched. (wrong salt, corn masa flour instead of corn meal on the cookie sheet and under baked) I have another batch rising on the running dishwasher, I’m pretty sure I can get corn meal locally tomorrow.

We live in the sticks so GPS and maps don’t update often. For some stoopid reason, whoever designs the roads out here think that roundabouts are super kool and there are TWO at the I17/H69 intersection in less than two miles that confuse the heck out of everyone.

If one is going from Phx to Prescott there is a rather confusing set of offramp signs indicating the lane to go to Prescott, instead of the fucking roundabout leading into the Junction. Most Prescott bound tourists get confused and get into the roundabout and circle around for a bit before getting off to go to one of the truck stops and asking for help. The same goes for Camp Verde and Flagstaff. The signs aren’t clear, GPS doesn’t have a clue and those noobs also spend time cursing the fucking roundabouts.

The truckers can’t help because their GPS puts them going through two fucking roundabouts instead of taking the other road and using normal stop signs that won’t make then tip over if they are going more than a mile an hour. When I get to the stop sign, I look for which way the trucker is going and then go the smarter way so I don’t have to creep along behind them while mentally shaking my fist at the satellites in the sky.

FCM I’m still sending good thoughts your MIL’s way. I am so sorry that her last days are spend dealing with this mess.

Mom has also lost a whole bunch of weight lately, she just isn’t interested in food anymore which is why I’m making such an effort with the cookies. It might be the last time.

Oh, and Draco has been night walking. It starts the night out on the bed in the back room and usually moves silently through the house to the front door. I’m not sure how it is happening because VBC always screams at her prey when she’s dragging things around and I never see GG carrying anything but his furry balls. Tis a mystery…

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday.
