(Old) Thwarted Plans in the MMP

Canes wake up and shutout the Craps. Spot is somewhere being cat, and mysterious.

To be fair, an hour and a quarter of OT isn’t exactly “early”. Also, one of the package car routes I was loading was “MPER”

When I was a kid in Durham, N.C., we used to throw rocks and acorns up in the air, and watch the bats dive on them. I miss them.

Scottish Boulivardier.

Just a quick drive by: the crew

The dog on the left is Ginger, Nelson’s mother’s littermate, Nelson is in the middle and his little brother-cousin Pugsly on the right (they share a father and Ginger is Pugsly’s mother).

Well, son and DIL have gone. We had a really lovely time. They brought lunch–a Greek Spiral from TJ’s and a salad, plus DIL brought a lemon poundcake from a Great British Baking Show recipe. She even candied lemon peel for the garnish. My son did all the prep work and washed the dishes. The dogs did their impression of Dickensian waifs who’d had nary a nibble of kibble in many a day.

My daughter will call tomorrow. She sent a gift, which I haven’t opened yet.

The mask finally arrived today, 5 days after the countdown started. I haven’t opened the package yet. I’ll do that just before I get into bed, as I’ll be stuck with whatever it is until Monday, regardless.

Ms. Dog decided against invading Lichtenstein once she learned it’s not Licked a Stein and thus was not, as she’d hoped, a perpetual Oktoberfest. Her geography is good; her spelling, not so much.

doggio, that was a cool story, and one I’d never heard. Thanks!

So she used Spray N Wash?

swampy, your mother sounds like a peach. The idea of you and OYKW enjoying the sound of the rain makes me smile.
shoe, don’t most people find that that plant matter increases their appetite? It sounds like it doesn’t have that affect on you.

A half acre sounds like plenty of mowage to me!

JtC, I’m sorry about the effect of the tariffs on the relations. I’m wondering how the six-cups-a-day folks and the Starbuck’s crowd will manage. I don’t drink coffee very often, but I did buy extra a month ago because I heard tariffs were going to make it pricey.

cookie, I hope your wife listens and does call the doc on Monday. A week is too long to be dizzy.

For a second, I thought you forgot to capitalize the B, and I was about to clutch pearls.

But it’s so easy now that you can do it online…

I hope you feel better tomorrow.

I had others to respond to, but I’m fading fast, so I’ll just blow kisses for now.

At this point, I figure I’d simply starve to death without.

Every great once in a while, I get the actual munchies, which 1a.) is pretty awesome for my sleep & subsequent energy next day, and 2b.) does interesting things to my, uh, parts and stuff that aren’t accustomed to having so much rammed down at once for processing.

Hah, that last part has no relationship to how mail/packaging shipments are processed by doggio; no, not at all!

Please enjoy your fancy gin.

D’aaaawwwwwww.

Wow, talk about “dry, flavorless bits.”

Did they at least get suuumpin’?

Caffeine withdrawal headaches - from what I’ve witnessed, never experienced - seem to be no joke.

{ turns cheek sideways }

Has any Mumper worked in school finance? If someone wants to endow a scholarship, or add to an existing one, how do you go about it? Just go to the school and ask?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and rainy. I know it rained a bunch overnight and looks like rain will start again real soon. The big item on the agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. OYKW may or may not go. He is a dainty snowflake and does not like to get out in the rain. Course if’n I were not servin’ I might consider stayin’ in da cave as well. I think we will have stoner food for today’s main need to feed.

red that is some cuteness overload right there!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Mothers Day Doper moms of both hoomans and critters!

She did say that her app was acting wonky, but it’s been almost a month. Her lifestyle would make me crazy - I shan’t go into the perpetual load of dirty dishes piled in the sink.

It’s true. I’ve gone off Diet Coke cold turkey a couple of times and it led to 2 or 3 days of gradually diminishing headaches. This was back when I had easily twice what I drink now.

Cupcake - I’d talk to my money guy or the lawyer who wrote up my will. I’m not sure the school would be set up to do that sort of thing. Just a wild guess on my part, tho.

I woke around 5, coughing, and lay in bed for more coughing, despite the cough drop. But now that I’m up and about, the coughing has stopped. That suggests it’s sinus drainage that drains better when I’m upright, not that I have any medical training. Maybe I’ll try sleeping in my recliner tonight - we shall see.

Today’s big plan is a run to the convenience center. I noticed the unmistakable scent of gross garbage when I went into the garage. So once we’re both up, dressed, and functioning, I’ll gather household garbage and we’ll load it up and take it and the recycling. That should kill 20 minutes or so of the day.

It’s supposed to be low 80s and sunny ahead of a full week of rain or rain chances. That tells me the grass should get mowed today. Which means I’ll be in the ditches and FCD will drive John Deere around. That kills another hour or so. We’ll see what the rest of the day will hold.

I hope Daughter isn’t planning to bring her spawn over - if I’ve got a cold rather than sinus drainage, I don’t want to share that with the grands. I should probably send her a text.

So Happy Sunday to all and Happy Mothers Day to those who observe.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall attempt to foil the cat and change my sheets, and do other assorted cleaning tasks.

Spot is a he, unlike his namesake(he’s unlikely to turn into an iguana, either)

Awwwwww

JWB is my go to scotch. Macallan single malt is for special occassions

How to make a Baked No Bake Cookie:

Start with cold butter, 1 egg, and an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix. Mix these items together to no avail and proceed to the microwave. Ta-da!

Fortunately the egg was mixed in well enough that it didn’t scramble as the chips were melting.

Well, that was…not great. I’m going to have to call the helpline about this APAP. The intermittent blasts of air were so strong, they were choking me, if that makes any sense. I had to move the mask, which is supposed to go just under the nose, to my upper lip to be able to wear it. I did some breathing exercises just before starting it to stay calm-ish about the tubing. I wore it for about 4.5 hours, BUT…the screen says, “Used time: 0 hours.” What?! If that means I wasted another night of the 9 I get “off” in the 30-day-period, I won’t be happy.

What a grump. I shall start over. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all the mothers!

Doggio, please apologize to Spot for my mis-gendering him. Why did I think he was a she? When it comes to critters, I’m gender-confused. The first dog son and wife adopted was a male with a feminine name. All their dog names come from the series Firefly, which is apparently a cult classic, and his name made sense if you’d watched the show. I haven’t. Anyway, that’s what started my confusion. I’ve called Ms. Dog “he” more than once and little Max “she.”

I’m very sleepy.

Outsie it’s 63 degrees Ferret Height( Centipedes) and cloudy. Inside, I made the bed unhindered after distracting Spot with 2 ice cubes.

They named their dog after the Hero of Canton? Shiny!

He and Nelson are in agreement on that.

Happy mother’s day to all of the Mumper mamas!

Got Sis, BIL and all of the doggos off. BIL wanted to take me out to breakfast, but, frankly, I had a terrible night’s sleep and hurt. We started out with him on the air mattress, Sis, me, Nelson and Ginger in the bed and everybody else in the crate. The crate dwellers weren’t happy about that, so they joined the bed crew. That’s just way too many bodies in a queen sized bed. BIL was the only one who slept well.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Stayed in bed (with several bathroom breaks) until nearly 8am, so moved out and got my Sunday NY Times and returned home to internet until it is time to head off to the Texas Roadhouse. Gym and sloth will be evenly mixed together this afternoon and reading time in the evening, so a good Sunday planned. Weather is still less than optimal 65F, 100% cloud cover and rain expected, so an even better reason to spend it indoors.

Oh, and Happy Mother’s Day to all y’all Moms out there!!

red, that’s a lapful of canine right there, lovely pic.

nellie, glad you had a nice visit and a surprise gift today. Need to drop a text to Sis-in-Law wishing her a happy M-Day, albeit with a detached retina healing up not sure how much reading she can do. And I has an  at the APAP company, hope they get it right for you.

Jayne, right? (yes, I was a Firefly fan).

swampy, happy verging as always.

FCM, hope the sinus finishes draining soon; those coughs can be miserable, Been there, hacked that…

And onward into the day.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 22c/72f with a predicted high of 23c/73f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “I’ve been told the fucking clouds taste like snozzleberries, which are dicks, if you weren’t fucking sure.” So now you know!

Around here, it’s a catch-all for checking and cleaning litter trays, putting out fresh wet food and checking the bowls of dry, flavourless bits, and checking the water bowls. There’s usually some fussing and skritches involved too, and growling if it’s Muffin!

I’m sorry for the bittersweetness of the day, but I am glad they got to celebrate 30 years and you got some pre-tarrif coffee out of it.

When my mum was alive, she hated the idea of it too, she viewed it as some kind of forced jollity so instead, I’d cook something at home for the two of us and we’d go out for dinner somewhere nice at a different time. She used to say she didn’t want to be “wheeled out with the oldies”!

Cookie I hope Mrs Cookie gets to see a doc soonest!

Awww…can’t beat a bit of quality outside time with a mog, especially if there are bats to watch too.

Sounds like you had such a lovely day, and were perfectly spoiled just as you deserve to be.

We had a fun day out yesterday - arrived in Wakefield after taking two trains to get there, walked down to our accommodation and then found that 'im indoors had booked somewhere that wasn’t actually a proper hotel, it was keyless entry apartments which meant we couldn’t get in early to leave our stuff and head off to the event we wanted to be at. A quick call to the management service got us in half an hour ahead of check-in time so that was not too bad. Quick change of clothes and we headed off to Venue 23. Never been there before, it was quite a nice venue for bands. We have a lot of gig friends from around the country, we don’t see them any other time, so it’s nice to bump into them when we do. Yesterday we saw a couple of friends from down south and then when we got inside the venue, bumped into a Welsh DJ friend and his wife who we often only see at the WinterStorm festival in Scotland! Anyway bands were excellent, the beer was good, fun was had and during the evening we slipped out for a curry at a local restaurant recommended by the doorman!

After the music was done, we strolled back towards our lodgings and stopped off at a bar where we got a drink and sat outside watching the comings and goings of the town centre on a Saturday night. There were a couple of very impressively dressed drag queens outside a bar just down from where we were sitting, and they were getting compliments on their outfits from lots of people.

Despite the bars and clubs being busy, we weren’t disturbed by the noise very much, and had a fairly decent sleep. I was up early, had a long hot shower (always a pleasure because our shower is broken so I’ve been using a bathtap attachment instead) and a quiet cup of tea while I waited for 'im indoors to surface.

We checked out and followed the directions for a local café, pretty hard to find one on a Sunday, the area is blessed with a plethora of coffee shops but nowhere that does proper food. After a decent meal, we meandered back to the railway station and made our way back home. The cats were roused from their snoozes when we got home, and decided to tell us they’d not had any food for days…despite messages from the catsitter telling me otherwise.

I do have a bit of a Muffin dilemma though - the catsitter said last night that Muffin had been sick on her blankie so I told her to leave it unless Muffin had retreated to the bookcase as she would very likely lash out if anyone tried to move the blankie or clean it up. Today she is still in the same place so neither of us has been able to move the blankie. It’s not a massive issue but does need to go in the wash…I could wait for her to move away or I could try to pull the blankie out from under her. Don’t really want to wait, but also don’t want to stress her and potentially cause myself injuries by fighting her for the bloomin’ thing! I think I’ll wait…

Happy Mother’s Day to all who feel that it applies! :bouquet:

Yesterday’s day-o-sloth was pretty nice. I was finally able to read enough of Guards! Guards! to gain some momentum with the story/characters, I solved the NY Times Connections puzzle with no mistakes, I got the pangram and reached “Genius” with the Spelling Bee, leftover pizza (lunch) and Lean Cuisine fettucini alfredo (dinner) were nommed, Bailey bravely guarded the house from behind the locked storm door, and plenty of TV was watched.

This morning I finally downloaded April’s credit union statement and balanced Quicken, and I also paid my credit card bill. That whirlwind of financial activity prompted me to peek at my 401(k) balance: I’d resisted checking it earlier this month, but I was relieved to see that it has continued to recover from the March/April dip. Phew! :crossed_fingers:

At around 1:00 I’ll head north to meet my dad and brother for lunch. The latter’s birthday was a week and a half ago, but he wasn’t available the weekend before or after it so the three of us are going out today. Normally we’d meet at 1:00-1:30, but because it’s Mother’s Day we decided to wait until 2:00 in hopes of the place being less busy then. We’ll see. I’m just hoping the traffic gods will smile on me.

When I get back home I’ll do laundry, and likely read some more. By the time I go to bed I think I’ll be ready to face the coming week. Work will be sort of busy, and I also have two personal appointments to make: Bailey is due for grooming, and I need to stop putting off calling the podiatrist. The nail on my right big toe needs to be removed, and I have questions about things going on with a couple other toes. I had the nail on my left big toe removed a few years ago (twice: the first time I let it grow back to see if the issue might resolve, but it didn’t so then I had it permanently removed), so I know what I’m getting into; I’ll call the same doc. I’ve been putting this off for at least a year, but now that I’m wearing shoes more regularly – and doing more walking – I’m noticing the “bad” nail more and more. Time for it to go!

That made me laugh out loud. :joy:

That’s pretty much how I feel about any kind of cooking.

I go to two grocery stores regularly, and one of the delis sometimes has those. They come with bacon, but it’s never cooked (ewwwww) so I always toss it. Otherwise, they’re pretty good little sandwiches…and, yeah, the rolls are actually pretzel-y!

That’s a cute-splosion right there!

:joy: !

But, thank you for the update; I’d been concerned about Lichtenstein.

That’s what I was gonna post!

Sounds like it was just about perfect! Nice!

FWIW I agree that waiting for Muffin to move is the right thing. Yes, it’s unpleasant to have a blanket covered in cat sick like that, but I think you’re right about what will be less upsetting to her (and less dangerous for you!). Maybe see what morning brings?

Ditches are push-mowed, FCD riding-mowed the yards, and we did a bit of chain-sawing (took down a small tree, hacked off a big branch, and cut back some small branches that kept getting caught in my hair as I mowed. I’m finishing lunch, then I’ll head out and cut the downed tree and branches into firewood. The rest of the twigs and leaves will be tossed into the woods.

I was going to weedwhack the hill, but maybe not. The mowage about kicked my butt. I don’t have the stamina I used to have, dammit.

Sunday breakfast done, all puzzles but one done. The rest of the day is just more of the boring same. At least the AC has been turned on, which is a good thing with a week of high 80s coming at us.

I bought a dozen eggs last week. The shelves were fairly bare, so I grabbed a dozen of what they had and didn’t look too closely at it other than to note that the price seemed a bit high. Fast forward to this morning when I happened to notice that the eggs were graded “Jumbo”. No wonder they’re so big! You have to feel for the hens.

The wife seemed to feel better this morning, but that degraded after breakfast, so she’s lying down again. We’ll get an appointment tomorrow, but of course this is our GP who will most likely refer us to someone else. I’m hoping that getting an angiogram will be the first order of business, even though I’m pretty sure this is an inner ear problem. I’m planning to sit in on the GP visit with her.

Good morning and a Happy Mother’s Day to all who are mothers or are in mother roles.

It’s 57°F and mostly cloudy. Rain showers are expected to move in very soon, and they will turn to rain during the afternoon, with a high temperature of 60°F.

My son came up yesterday afternoon, and we all went to dinner together at a little French/European bistro. They always have good food, and we all enjoyed our meals. He presented me with an iPad for my Mother’s Day gift, and I’m sure it’s my birthday gift too. Mother’s Day and my birthday are generally a week or so apart. It’s a lovely gift, and I’ll enjoy using it while sitting on the couch or traveling.

I loved the pup pic, red!

Cookie, I hope the doctor can figure out what’s going on with your wife and that she gets some relief soon.

Nellie, it sounds like you had a beautiful visit with family! I’m sorry the APAP is turning out to be challenging to use. Did you not have an option to turn down the air on your machine? At any rate, I hope you can get it sorted soon.

There isn’t much on the agenda today. My husband and I have tentative plans to visit some plant nurseries, but he didn’t sleep well last night and is still in bed. Besides, it might be better to go tomorrow.

Alrighty, it’s time for me to migrate to a different room. The bad neighbors have kids visiting who are screaming in the yard next to my window. One of them is a little rage machine who screams and yells for hours, and they let him sit outside and do it. I get that kids like to scream and screech, but this is non-stop and really annoying. I don’t say anything, of course, but all the same, it makes it difficult to be in my yard and garden.

From the now you tell me department: FCD just said something wondering if we could take a cruise to England to catch our next cruise. Yes, we could have. But if we changed our plans now, we’d lose about $3k in air fare (I think I booked non-refundable), plus we’d have to finance a week in England, which would have been cool.

If he’d just made that suggestion back in January when I was booking this vacation. Oh well, next time.
