(Old) Thwarted Plans in the MMP

A few years ago when I was with my ex, we’d hear a bat when I rolled him outside to smoke.
Obviously early or late.
I called it Randolph.

And good evening all. Another moderately busy day, spent nearly 3 hours at the Drs. office, 90% of it sitting around waiting for them to do something else to me, finally got home after 1:30pm and broke fast with a big bowl of cereal…and it was good enough that I had another one right after that. Did my weight training and then got a little exercise in before heading home for a bit and then went back over to the gym to get my swimming in. So that is done, chee-burger grilled and assimilated, and all is right with the world..except the 2-3 things I have to do on-line and the several e-mails i need to answer…life keeps happening to me…the rain never showed up, but they are showing a 70% chance tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.

Now time to exercise my index finger and start scrolling…

FCM, my Dodge has a few dings too, I have just learned to adjust to them.

red, hope the claim gets worked out.

Taters, it was nice to hear, and you damn well should be proud of the work you did.

Well-played, Coppertone. Well-played indeed…

Boogie Woogie, how big is said puppy? 10lbs. or 100lbs? Can make a difference in how much havoc she might cause.

FCM, sounds like the sewing is going well.

Enjoy the Nagels, Cookie. Then go to the pet shop and enjoy the Beagles…

Oopsie, don’t think I’ve ever tried anything that out of date…have gotten some stuff that was 2-3 months over the limits, but opening them and taking a sniff determined I wasn’t eating that… Hope the new “Pit Crew” meshes well, sounds like you’re off to a good start. And once you adjust to the new schedule I think your energy will start to return. And hope Mr. Brown gets some sense in his head before anything untoward happens, biopsy-wise.

Perhaps, but I bet he makes extra-sure your deliveries are made as quickly as possible.

JtC, can anything be done on the depth perception front? (and I see you have cataract surgery planned–hope it helps). Not being able to drive and Hubs being a bit..quirky…may leave you stranded at home a lot.

Cat Glove, so glad the snip went quickly and without incident.

{{shoe}}, just because. And at least you have a good reason to hate veggies… And I has a happy for your flying mammals return.

Only time I really noticed bats was at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. There are/were literally hundreds of thousands of bats living in the cave away from visitors but they flew out as a group in the evenings to hunt and people could sit and watch them. Pretty awesome sight.

And it’s nearing 10pm and I have things to do, so all y’all take care and I’ll catch you all tomorrow.

I think they call that “white coat fever.” I get it too, I’ve got a cuff that I take my BP at home on the regular, and I’m significantly higher when the docs do in the office. They get scared when the first readings come from the machine–in a doc’s office I’m somewhere around 180 over something else way too high. At home it’s like 115/75.

Car is sick again. A new leak in the cooling system. I had it towed to the mechanic last night, had to Uber in to work today, my boss very nicely gave me a ride home and is going to pick me up in the am. Theoretically the car will be fixed sometime tomorrow. Having an unreliable car is not fun.

I walked to the garden shop. They’re completely out of fuschia. I’m to go back in a couple of days. I’ll have Ms. Dog with me. I wonder if she’s allowed in there. My nephew called while I was heading over. He’s the one with severe OCD. As I’ve said, I’m the only one besides his mom who will talk with him. The OCD is only one of his issues, and he’s been mooching off his mom for years. (Got rejected for SSDI.) I’m fond of him, but he’s pretty aggravating.

My A-PAP machine arrived yesterday. Holy crap, it looks awful. I have to wear a CHIN STRAP? My attitude is terrible, I know, but I’m having trouble finding the sunshine in this one. Anyway, there was no mask. I called this morning, and the mask is supposed to arrive Friday, but the 30 day window (in which I have to use the machine for 21 days) started last Monday, the day they shipped it. I am less and less enthused. In face, I’m in the negative numbers. My score in the sleep study was 7 apnea episodes in an hour. 5 is considered apnea. My brother scored 20. I don’t anticipate a huge difference, but of course, I’ll give it a try.

Ms. Dog is here. She’s galumphing all over the apartment because she’s so excited to be here. I’ll take her for her last constitutional of the day in a few minutes. Hopefully that’ll settle her down.

OK, omniscient Mumpers, riddle me this. While walking today, I saw “WITCHING SIGNAL” written in paint on a sidewalk. I smiled. A block later, same thing. Another block, same. I went down an alley 1/2 mile away and found another one. What the heck does it mean? Google was no help. Is there an important coven meeting I didn’t know about? Do they shine a witch signal in the sky like the old Bat Signal?

Sticky, I’m sorry about the driving thing. I hope the cataract surgery gets you behind the wheel abain.

When I started doing genealogy, I was surprised how often people who’d lost a child gave a later child the same name. I gather it was an honor. One of my ancestors had 10 children. The eighth was named Octavius. He was a sailor. I guess that isn’t a name you keep reusing.

Somebody wants out.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Nope. And cooling system issues are the worst.

< laughs in George Forman >

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 85 and cloudy with possible rain. Or not. TWPTB are willy-nilly today. We shall be bears who brunch at Pearly’s this mornin’. I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for Pearly’s sausage ‘n gravy over bizkits. This is not especially good for me, but tummy will be happy. Any other need to feed will be via forage. High RDOS inactivities are also on the agenda.

Now I need more caffeine and then I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Maybe I shouldn’t say that as folk who patronize Pearly’s are by and large civilized.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

The Olive Garden salad dressing I had last night has a Best By date in 2022. It was fine - I dunno if oil-and-vinegar can go bad anyway. OTOH, when we moved in here in 2004, the previous owners had left a bunch of seasonings and spices, and a bunch of Coors Light that dated back to 1997. All that got tossed. I’m not a beer drinker, but I do know Diet Coke gets gross a year later, and probably sooner than that. I understand beer gets skunky shortly after its Best By date.

My doc had me keep a record of home readings and she was satisfied that my BP was properly under control.

Much as I love where we live, we’d be in trouble without wheels. The closest store is a Dollar General about 3 miles away. The county circulator bus passes there as well as in Loveville, which is also about 3 miles away, so a bit of a hike either way along roads with no sidewalks, especially hauling groceries. We’ll deal when we have to.

FWIW, FCD and I thought I had slight (?) apnea, so I started sleeping on a wedge with my head and shoulders elevated. It seems to have made a difference, tho it took a little time to get used to sleeping on my back instead of my side. Might be something to consider (not that I have any idea what I’m talking about.)

We’re promised a nice day to start, with a chance of rain moving in this afternoon, and a bigger chance overnight and into tomorrow. I’d like to go to the boat to make a pattern for the connecting panel between the seat backs. And I’ll do some more sewing. And I don’t know what else - it’s still early.

I was thinking I’d give my mom and early Mother’s Day call because I don’t know her plans for Sunday, or mine, for that matter. I need to set aside an hour to listen to her monologue - that’s always what a call to her entails.

Last night and into this morning, my throat is really rough. Either I’ve got a nasty cold (I was sneezing and coughing yesterday) or pollen is high. I took a snort of generic nyquil before bed and it stopped the coughing and the drippy nose, not to mention knocking me out. We’ll see how it goes today. I hate being sick, if indeed this is sick. Not that pollen is any better. It’s so hard being me!

OK, onward. Happy Thursday!

70 lbs. Tomorrow will be “normal” - I’ll be home. She’s really not bad, not like previous dog. That one especially liked to chew on plastic. We had to baby-proof the kitchen.

Today, I get to sit at a hospital all day. Mrs. O’boogie has checkup, while SIL has an operation.

What does that have to do with Coors Light?

Point taken.

I found the missing pieces that join the backs of the cushions. They were in my studio under and old piece if sheet (literally a piece of a sheet, not, well, you know.) So we don’t need to go to the boat after all. I was going to use strips of the old sheet to make patterns. Now I don’t have to.

Showered, dressed, and coughing. Good times.

pollen is very, very, high. no open windows.

today i forgot my phone. and kindle! luckily i have a back up kindle at the office. argh! nothing worse than not having reading material.

It’s frustrating and can have some long term consequences. I hope that they get things fixed up without too much inconvenience or cash outlay.

If it’s Lowe’s, Home Depot or TSC, she’s welcome. Independent garden shops make their own rules, but if it’s open air, most of them do allow well behaved dogs on a leash or in a buggy.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, morning PT stretches done and fixing to do KP. Once that’s done, I’ll get sheveled. I have PT again this afternoon and I plan on stopping in at Aldi for a couple of things. Other than that, it will be playing around in the studio and walking Nelson (it’s still too wet to take him to the dog park).

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

It is rainy. Again. We have a storm sewer inlet in our back yard for the surrounding houses, and we’re beginning to build a little swamp back there. Welcome to Midwest spring in the era of climate change. At least no tornadoes on the horizon.

Yesterday was the first day of summer break. I’m not totally done; I still have a few video juries to watch and grade, and then my own grading to do, but I’m mostly in decompression mode. Which means I should have plenty of time and energy to be productive, but instead am sitting and slothing. The rain doesn’t help.

Later today I’m going to the final rehearsal for my students’ recital, which is tomorrow. They’re two of my favorite students ever and I’m sad to be losing them. They’re here during the summer and may do some private lessons.

On to vegetating…

Just checked on line - the pollen count around here is HIGH. That could explain the drips and coughs. Dammit.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 43°F and clear outside. Early in the day, there will be a mix of sun and clouds, which will change to cloudy skies this afternoon. The high temperature will be around 66°F.

Clearly, my fingers were not keeping up with my thoughts yesterday, lol! No need for clutching pearls, I was not running errands in the shower. I did, however, complete errands OUTSIDE of the shower and house. I drove to one of my favorite nurseries and picked up a hanging basket and some plants. After that, I went to Mud Bay and picked up the food for the doggos, and then to Safeway to pick up some groceries. I also needed to pick up distilled water at Safeway, but I completely forgot that.

So, after I get my hair cut and toned today, I’ll pick up the distilled water. I also need to pick up a sidewalk scraper, and I may head down to the valley to a couple of other nurseries.

Once I come back, I’ll either plant or clean the house.

Nellie, I’m glad the A-PAP arrived. I hope your mask arrives soon. My husband does not like sleeping with his machine either, and he wears a full-face mask (covers nose and mouth). But, after he completed his sleep tests, the docs were amazed he wasn’t dead yet, so he needed it.

VanGo, having an unreliable car is not fun. I hope it’s fixed once and for all this time.

JtC, I hope the cataract surgery fixes your depth perception issues so you can drive again and have a sense of independence. I would not like to be dependent on others for transportation.

Nellie, have you been to the new Watson’s nursery yet? Or, is that a long walk for you? I hear it’s nice. The original one up here is very nice, but they are proud of their stuff, too. I often find good sales there, though.

red, I’m sorry you’re having so many issues with the short-term disability. I hope you can get it sorted soon.

I heard from another of the folks who retired the same day as I. I don’t officially retire until the end of September, but you know what I mean. Anyway, she said it’s started to feel real, and she’s enjoying it. I still feel like I’m on leave, so it hasn’t hit me.. I’m stubborn, but I guess I’ll face it soon.

Also, WTF? How are there so many people around during working hours? I arrived at the plant nursery around 10:30 a.m., and maybe four cars were in the lot. By the time I left, the lot was filled (I was only there an hour!), and everyone there was very senior in age. And, while I was driving, no one was doing the dang speed limit; everyone drove like they had no place to go, and all day to get there. I am a frustrated grand prix driver, but come on, there is no need to be doing more than 10 miles below the speed limit. I need to start adjusting to “retirement” time.

Alrighty, I need another cup of coffee and then I have leave to get my hair done-did. You all take care of yourselves.

Interview tomorrow. Part time, overnight. I’ve been interviewed there before.

This is the basis of my CPAPs are damn necessary campaign. I did not directly find him, but I was the one with the longest drive, about 1 1/2 hours, to my boyfriend’s house not knowing what I was going to find. I still remember it all after 13 years. If you need a CPAP, give yourself a fighting chance that he never did.

Ok, less serious, maybe I should blame him for my tattoo addiction. My first tattoo ever was in memory of him. That was approximately 10 tattoos ago!

Fast forward to today, it has not been so great. My stomach and I have been going rounds which made physical therapy challenging. I was glad when it was time to come back home. And apparently stomach issues are going ‘round because Annie isn’t quite herself and doesn’t want to eat. I did give her some meds and she seems a bit more spunky, though, so I’m glad about that.

JtC, I’m glad that you had the courage to do the right thing even though it was difficult. I hope that your surgery is soon so you can get back to driving again. My glass is out for delivery today!

Good morning all. Slept well and have had my morning apple so stomach is pleased with me. Not an active day planned, do have soccer practice this afternoon and will spend some time at the gym, but might even find time for some house-irk in the middle. Temperatures are supposed to be in the 70-'sF and despite gloom and doom reports earlier of rain for the next week-10 days, only a 30% chance today and smaller odds tomorrow, so that is good news on the soccer front.

Yeah, me to. I have gotten better with time, but still 10-20 points over.

Cat Glove, hear you about the car, hope the bill making the car well does not make you wallet sick…

nellie, the first couple days with the mask will be miserable, I bet, but stick to it and it will become routine, I bet. And have no idea what Witching Signal means. Happy Ms. Dog day!

swampy, sometimes you eat healthy and sometimes you eat what is real good, and the toughest part of life is that they don’t overlap as much as they should. Enjoy your version of SOS.

FCM, my experiences with soft drinks is that about a month past the date they are losing all their carbonation and taste extremely flat. And yes, modern suburban life has been designed around the automobile and it will take a massive shift for that to change.
And Yay! for finding the missing pieces int he last place you looked…

Boogie Woogie, that’s a pretty good-sized pupper, hope she settles in and loses the anxiety. And was in my check-up mode yesterday for 3+ hours, so know what you’re going through (and best wishes to SIL).

You’ll do just fine here in the MMP…

Pavo, sitting and slothing is something we Mumpers know a lot about; enjoy it while you can. Enjoy the student’s performance.

Taters, lots of retired folks, plus once the kids are in school Moms have time for things like plants and stuff… As for drivers, very few folks here drive that slowly, not in Ali-bama they don’t…

Coppertone, good luck on the interview.

Sticky Buns, take care and feel better soon.

And that’s all for the morning edition. Have a good Thorsday all.

It’s been a helluva week. Ariel has seen the vet 3 times. Yesterday she had her eye debrided. The cornea owie wasn’t healing so the vet stuck a needle in her eye, numbed it, and scraped it. Needless to say, I did not watch this procedure. She is starting PRP therapy to help heal the ulcer quickly. This means twice a day I have to smear PRP on her upper and lower lids. I think I’m gonna need a part-time job to pay for the Vet bills. Andy’s Custard is hiring, but the evening shift has to work till 1 AM and I’m too old for that.
