I’m listening to NPR’s Science Friday while I read and write. They’re talking about agri-voltaics. That is using the same ground for growing plants & animals that’s partly shaded by solar panels. They can grow crops that don’t need full sun, such as herbs, vegetables, and livestock.
Just one of me (and a dog…I’m doing his harnesses / coats / leash with the towels) and I do 2-3 loads a week. Of course, I have to keep the loads small to accomodate my dryer.
I have, but my bathroom is too small for that. I really think that I’m able to do it now, I just want someone here the first time.
Annnnnnd…it’s 75F here.
Is Harris no longer part of the store name?
That sounds a bit like Nelson’s routine. Go outside, come back in, play fetch / tug-o-war, nap. Repeat twice more every day.
Towels are in the wash with 12 minutes left before going into the dryer. They’re the easy laundry day.
I’ve always free fed Nelson. When there’s homemade on hand, he gets a bowl of that in the morning. His kibble is reduced accordingly. He also gets treats, but within the vet recommended limits.
Two loaves of meat have been assembled. One is in the fridge, and I’ll cook it this afternoon. The other one is in the freezer. Once it’s solid, I’ll remove the tightly-wrapped parcel from the loaf pan and put it into a zip-top bag. It will thus live in the freezer until a later date.
Delicious bagel. Stopped and got a larger scratcher for the expanding cats. Now they’re galloping around the living room while I move toward editing via throwing stuff in the washer.
Howdy Y’all! I got the church stuff done and possibly caused the organist to age a few years. I was in the Sacristy and she came in the church to practice. I had the door closed as I was storin’ some stuff on shelves beside the door and movin’ other stuff around. She was rehearsin’ when I opened the door and couldn’t hear me close the door and couldn’t see me over the top of the organ until I stepped up to the Altar, so it was like I just appeared out of nowhere. Poor thing almost fell off her bench. She had seen my vehicle outside but said she thought I was in the Parish hall as it was parked in front of it. I had been in the hall before I went over to the church proper. Anyway, I got done, got back to da cave to indulge in RDOS inactivities. We et a geezer sup (four o’ clock) and now ‘tis time to stare at the teevee. If I am watchin’ stuff beside commercial teevee am I starin’ at essentially a big monitor and not a teevee screen? Debate amongst yourselves.
rocker I have never measured the amount of honey. Just a couple of drops from honey bear seems to do it. The idea is a little bit of sweet to go with the sour of the dill relish. It gives the deviled aigs a certain je ne sais quoi.
Knotty and Wet One where would da bears go to in Indiana? I have Gary, Indiana stuck in my haid.
MOOOOOOM we have a king sized bed as well. I like to sleep on it, but detest makin’ it up.
shoe if snotty teen persists with the ‘tude, I do so hope the grease trap is in her near future. I have cleaned a grease trap. It’s stinky and sweaty work.
JtC James may never leave! I know that if you made me lots of goodies I wouldn’t want to.
swampy Gary, with all of its non redeeming qualities, has been proposed as the site of da Bears stadium.
In my “lounge wear” i.e. sweats, in front of the tee vee with the Olympics.
It’s the exact opposite of what our mothers were taught for our wounds in decades past. It’s new advice, backed up by solid research (which they didn’t do in our era as kids getting boos boos). I first learned of it in a required wound care continuing ed course when I was still working as a nurse, it was news then.
Petroleum jelly works just as well as expensive antibiotic ointments. Now I only use antibiotic ointment on my grandkids owies when it also has a pain reliever ingredient, which helps it stop hurting quickly. The antibiotic is incidental. Soap and water to clean is just as good and never use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on wounds to disinfect, they can damage the very skin cells you need to be johnny on the spot and healthy, ready to begin the healing by producing new tissue.
It is a lot simpler when it’s a 2-person job. Lots quicker, too!
I got some domestical stuff done today - 4 loads of laundry complete (except FCD hasn’t put the last of his away yet.) Then I ran a clean cycle on the washer - that involved dropping a tablet in the drum and pushing a couple of buttons - quite a chore, that one! Dishes have been washed and put away so the dishwasher awaits the next batch of dirties.
That’s pretty much all I’ve accomplished. Actually, a fair bit for a RDOS, doncha think?
Oh, I got another boo-boo. I was playing fetch with Otis and he ran a very sharp toenail across the back of my right hand. It looks like a razor slice - very thin! Fortunately, it’s not deep. I swear, if someone didn’t know me and my life, they’d think I was constantly being tortured and abused, what with all the bruises and scars. Like my mom, I bruise very easily. I always thought if I got in the way of a strong sneeze, I’d end up with a bruise. The curse of being a delicate flower of womanhood, I guess… ![]()
I find it ridiculous that the kids are being picked up by the bus on my street at 7:15. What time does school start? Don’t TPTB know that kid’s brains don’t work in the morning?
T’was a nice no-meeting day, I actually got some shit done. Now is cold, and we’re looking forward to a high of 4 ferrets tomorrow. I’m thinking no dog park, 'specially cuz Ms Peach has been a real butthead about coming back when it’s time to go.
And this serious cold and dry has led to me inadvertently static zapping the not so smol (anymore) dog. She was once 35 lbs, and is now up towards 60. The zapping has made her a little skittish.
Good book – have you read the sequel? My favourite books by Niven & Pournelle are Lucifer’s Hammer and Footfall. (And the Nivenless Falkenberg series by Pournelle and Stirling. “They march through the streets fifty strong at all hours of the night playing bagpipes! Bagpipes in the wee hours, Colonel, can be a frightening thing.”")
I read “The Doom That Came to Sarnath”, and presumably the other stories in that collection, but that was 50-55 years ago and the title is about the only thing I remember about it. Daughter got a book which I think is a complete collection of HPL’ short stories – maybe I should borrow it from her.
Football, right? And the NFL? (What’s the AFL – “the Awful”?)
We had 32 ferrets at noon, but are now down to 30. Minimum tonight is 25, which by coincidence is said to be the most we’ll have tomorrow – before it drops to 2 tomorrow night.
“Mommy put a Curad, the ouchless bandage, on.” ![]()
Supper tonight will be a salad and the rest of the chili I made last Saturday.
Makes me glad that I no longer have carpeting in my home.
My supper was chana masala that I pulled from the freezer (I made it a couple of weeks ago. It had enough heat that my nose is still running), some turnip greens and a corn muffin. ‘Twas good!
I make chili to my daughter’s taste. Lady SCAdian and I like Thai and Mexican food, but we add cheese and sour cream to reduce the burn from my chili.
I read The Mote In God’s Eye, Lucifer’s Hammer and Footfall many, many years ago. The reminder makes me want to read ‘em again. Wonder if I can find ‘em. I must betake myself to teh intartoobz and search.
MOOOOOOM I’d rather just make the bed myself than have help. I have my methods and help just confuses me. I am old and set in my ways.
WetOne the Etlanner Braves relocated to a ‘burb, but are still the Etlanner Braves. I trust da Bears will do the same. Da Gary Bears just wouldn’t be right.
Lily the retro Bandaid commercials were a hoot!
Well, I have this one right on the shelf…
Mooommmm, I thought of you as I made the bed (a queen). Oddly, the kittens watched but didn’t help by clinging to the corners, burrowing under the sheet, roughhousing in the middle of the bed, etc. They clearly had deprived kittenhoods, or were too busy scrounging bugs to bother with their main job as cats, which is to be in the way.
Sweatage has been sweated and have done the needed e-mails to the parents of my three Futsal teams for this weekend’s soccer games. Also signed up to referee several and will help out coaching for sick father who can’t be at his U8 game. So just another weekend of mild insanity. It may actually stay above freezing tonight, but due to get cooler this weekend. At least no rain in the immediate forecast.
And about 17-18 messages to peruse, so best to get at it. Going into Scroll mode in 3…2…1…
Cookie, had to look up Trappist Jams (I learn all kids of stuff from you folks), they sound pretty good, enjoy!
Nut, so, monsoon season has settled in around your place, I guess. Just keep an eye out for an old dude in robes leading animals two-by-two…
Knots, I really due need to tune into NPR with the car radio, mostly I keep it on oldies music or ESPN, but NPR deserves support for programs like that.
red, happy to hear about your confidence, but please, still, be careful.
swampy, I also have a fairly drastic ‘startle’ reflex when people appear where I don’t expect them…and I have all three of those books, if you’d like to borrow them, drop me a PM.
FCM, 4 loads of laundry is a full day for me, so yeah, your RDOS credentials are in doubt. And I was bleeding from a scrape on the back of my right hand this evening, have no idea what I did to open it.
VanGo, the early start puzzles me too, the High School doesn’t get going until 8:15am or so, but guess they need the kids in school so the parents can get them dropped off and then get to work…or something like that.
Herald, I have read The Gripping Hand but as it’s a hardcover and not a paperback I don’t take it with me to the gym (which is where I do the bulk of my reading while pedaling myself to nowhere). Have read most of the Falkenberg series but not into it as much, was spoiled by Gordon Dickson’s Dorsai stories.
And that’s all for now. Early bedtime as soccer starts about 9am. Take care all.
I napped. Dinner was wasabi soy catfish, shiitake rice and green beans with black vinegar. I had a gin Saketini for cocktails, and wasabi peas for dessert. Watched Star Trek: Academy and now mixed doubles Olympic curling.
thanks. It’s my first color cartoon.
It is. I just don’t type it out.
Yes and Yes. The AFL was a competitor league on the 1960’s, now it’s part of the NFL as the AFC(American Football conference: Jets, Broncos, etc).
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday. It’s also 38 degrees Ferret Height(3.333 Centipedes). Spot is on the washer trying to play with The Thing That Lives In the Wall.
