(Old) Up late in the MMP

Morning all. Just a short note as I will leave about 7:30am to do the Great Firday Shopping for February. I leave at that time because school starts at 7:40am so I miss the rush as 99% of the students have arrived and I hopefully finish before the rush hour to work gets well and truly started. We’ll see if it works for me this time. Weather says it’s 33F now but heading to 61F this afternoon, but it’ll cool into the 40’s for Saturday.

shoe, life happens to everyone and IIRC you’ve had a moment or two…and teenagers and young love tend to be ‘itchy’ times for many. But congrats for soldiering though and making Alternate Manager smile.

Boo fae, your work with our feline companions is a lesson in patience and love.

Knots, really hope Da’Bears find a new stadium location in Chi-town, doesn’t seem right to have them in Indiana. And I also remember that Band-Aid jingle.

Thanks for the book recommendations, but I think I’ll continue to review my extensive Sci-Fi paperback library. Just re-read The Mote in God’s Eye by Niven and Pournelle, and think as a follow-up I’ll do Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.

And time to head out to the store for the morning exercise (and don’t tell me pushing a full cart through a large store doesn’t burn the calories). Take care all.

Well, obviously, I should have consulted our resident expert - thanks! Tho it does feel a bit better this morning. I smeared a little vaseline on it before bed, but didn’t use a bandaid. Guidance noted, tho, for today.

I had a hankerin’ for a burger last night but there aren’t a lot of options around here - even if we’re willing to drive 20 miles (which I wasn’t last night.) There are a couple of new “smash burger” places - I guess that’s a thing now? I’m OK with Red Robin, but they’re in that 20 mile category. Anyway, we went for sushi.

Duncan cracks me up! And I love his kilt and big ol’ work boots combination, and his facial expressions!

When we first moved here in '04, our next door neighbor was Puerto Rican, as were the folks who rented her basement apartment. Which, of course, caused the neighbor who bordered our back fence to grumble about “illegal aliens” and make accusations. Idiot.

Anyway, today started at 14 Ferrets, heading to just above freezing. The weekend is supposed to be very cold - not getting out of the 20s with single-digit nights. But next week, we get back to more seasonable temps. Not a big deal for me, tho - it’s laundry day and I have no plans to venture out.

My fabric came yesterday - it almost exactly matches the Sunbrella, but it’s lots softer, so it’ll be easier to work with. And it’s got a 10-year guarantee against fading and water-resistance. All for half the price of Sunbrella - a definite win!

My other plan for today is a review of my taxes - I hadn’t planned to do them yesterday and I may have forgotten something. Today I’ll go over them again as well as reviewing last year’s so I don’t have to submit an amended form again. Then I’ll zap them on their way and we should get our refunds pretty quick. Which is good - it’ll help cover this last bit of boat work.

I was going to reschedule our Panama Canal cruise to 2028 instead of next January because I worried about depleting our savings, but the balance due isn’t as much as I’d thought, so I think we’ll be fine. Anyway, I have till October to change my mind - that’s when it has to be paid off.

FCD is still abed (YAY! He has such problems sleeping) and Otis is outside doing Otis things. I’ve got the ice maker running. Once my sweetie gets up, I’ll shower, then run the dishwasher and haul the dirties to the basement. I’ll also get the nav board covers cut out and pinned up for sewing - if I get ambitious enough, I might get them done today.

For now, tho, surfage continues. Happy Firday!!

Good morning, everyone. Someone didn’t realized how tire they were and fell asleep on the couch last night. I’m not going to name names, but it rhymes with Schmaus Schmagill.

My neck is a little sore from my mishap for no reason whatsoever. It’s definitely not because I had slept for about four hours with my chin resting on my chest.

Have a good Friday, everyone.

lager is food aggressive and obsessed. it is much better now. having the auto feeder has helped with his issues. he only hissed and growled when food was involved. now that he is a cranky old man he only hisses and growls at the vet. food is fine.

i’ve not read lovecraft. i am a bit familiar due to friends and sdmb.

today will be a baconcheese burger for lunch. the wild hurrah before lent starting. i’m thinking 5 guys.

swampbear, i am intrigued by honey in the deviled eggs. how much? i do enjoy deviled eggs…

going to be a very cold weekend in philly. we have a 50% chance of a bit of snow tonight. i’m sure i will be disappointed. sat and sunday night should be around 4f, and very windy. wednesday will be a bit tricksy. it may warmup enough that we get freezing rain instead of snow. bah!

Yesterday was the 20th consecutive day where the temp did not get above freezing. Today will be the 21st….

I will disown the Bears if they leave Illinois. Not that they care.

Showered and dressed. Bed stripped. Laundry hauled downstairs and sorted. First load in the washer - probably 4 more to go. Otis is outside, probably sulking because he couldn’t go in the car with his daddy. That dog LOVES going in the car.

I need to load and run the dishwasher and decide which sheets to put on the bed - I’m thinking flannel. I hate remaking the bed, mostly because it’s king size and there’s not a lot of space on my side of the bed to get to one corner - much cussing ensues.

I brought up the fabric for the nav board covers. They’ll get cut out eventually - probably today. Maybe. Slight motivational crisis here - I don’t feel like doing anything but, well, adulting must happen. Dammit. I need a well-trained staff to attend to me. Dammit.

Michigan City? South Bend? Hammond? I can’t think they’d pick Gary.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I do need to do a load of towels sometime today, but other than that, nothing major planned.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Just one load?? Slacker!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know how 2 of us produced 5 loads of dirties in one week - 4 if I hadn’t decided to strip the bed.

Already on it.

Alternate Manager decided we needed veggies chopped/un-canned etc. In the back kitchen. Away from the main floor. By herself.

Me three!

Mornin’ all.

It’s 38F with some patchy fog. Some areas will have morning patchy fog, but the afternoon bring partly sunny skies and a high near 58F.

After a very restless night, I slept in until after 6:00 a.m., and now I’m annoyed with myself. Yes, I realize I don’t have anywhere to be, but I always feel like the morning is wasted when I sleep in.

Red, have you thought about getting one of those medical shower benches so you don’t have to worry about falling? They even make them wide enough to go over a tub ledge, helping with transfers if you have a tub/shower combo rather than a shower enclosure. I had one when I broke my ankle all those years ago; it was a real help.

Shoe, I do believe little Ms. Wants to be a Bitchy Bully needs to clean grease traps for the next several trips; over and over again.

BooFae, I’m glad the meeting went better than expected.

Welp, nothing is going on here again. I did not leave the house. Maybe today. There is a Ukrainian market and deli that looks quite interesting, and I’d like to check it out. I wanted to type that as “an Ukranian” but autocorrect makes it “a Ukranian”. Hmmm.

Wishing you all a good day. Take care of yourselves.

Morning everyone. The snow has started in earnest, so Hubs just left to get James. Its a little early but James said he was ready and had his overnight bag packed so Hubs volunteered so I could finish making salami roses for the grazing tray. Hubs has a duplicate tray for his room

Besides taking James home, my plans include not leaving the house until Sunday at the soonest.

This is an excellent idea and I really wished we had one when Hubs was having his gout attack. I think I’ll get one now and put it in a closet for when we need it next. Ain’t none of us getting any younger.

AM is a smart person, but that does mean she had to keep leaving the main floor to check on lil miss bitchybitch.

You have a dog and it is wet and muddy outside.

It got above freezing yesterday but today we are under another declared state of emergency due to the predicted ice storms.

Is it cold enough to make Ariel go inside or does she like to stand out in the snow?

Poor lil guy. Cats aren’t born with food aggression, it has to be taught.

All of our past cats were strays that showed up and never left. All of them knew what it was like to be hungry and it always made me sad.

We had several cats that did overeat and become noticeably fat. Our vet would always tell us to limit their food because it was going to cause health issues, but we just couldn’t. If we tried, they spent their entire days looking for food, nothing else mattered.

I honestly do think that you would like Lovecraft. You might never make cultist status, but you would still be in the know. The Dunwich Horror is the short novel featuring Lavinia Whateley and is well worth enjoying, but I still think that Mountains of Madness is the one folks should start with. It gives a lot of the background lore for the entire mythos.

Wow, it is REALLY coming down now. The highway was clear when I started typing, now it is fully covered. And here comes Hubs.

Have a great day everyone.

Can’t blame Otis for much more than additional rollsuckage. A big part of the laundry overload is FCD wearing 2 shirts in his shop - a t-shirt that fits with an oversized long-sleeve t-shirt on top. And I don’t always wear my jeans twice. And we had extra towels this week because of a plumbing leak in the basement that had to be sopped up. So I guess I do know where all the dirties came from..

We didn’t have this issue with our cats, but Otis had obviously had hungry days when he was wandering free. He was pretty scrawny when we got him, but he’s since bulked up and apart from wanting to share FCD’s McD’s food in the car, he seems to have adapted to his food routine here - 3 meals a day plus treats. And lest anyone chide me, we take the recommended daily feeding and divide it into 3 meals - with the vet’s blessing.

First load in the dryer, second in the washer. Otis has been amusing himself rather than trying to chew on me, so yay! He’ll get his midday kibbles shortly. My owie is ointmented and bandaided, per night nurse direction. And so it goes hereabouts.

Sunny and nice. Maybe I’ll go for the bagel and then walk around. The rest of the day will hold alternating rounds of editing, washing, and kitty-petting, not necessarily in thst order.

Thankfully, no. For all her, ah, personality charms, she is a smart person and once told how to do something, does it perfectly as directed from then out.

We have lotsa olives, etc. nicely prepped for the weekend.

Back to normal-ish today, and we were out before most of the drivers got there. I stopped at Teeter for fish, and bought a bag of dry, flavorless bits for Spot.

Spot grazes throughout the day. But if he finds the bottom of the bowl visble when he goes to snack, or if he sees me take the bowl away to clean it, and dump out the half sized bits(which he refuses to eat), he does start yowling about the primates tryign to starve him. Still not sure about the fear of wax paper being torn.

Did Erstwhile Manager read them the riot act the day before, or were they replaced by a Pod Person?

The Gary Bears would still suck!
-dogbutler, Cheesehead :cheese_wedge:

And my taxes have been filed. I double checked what I did yesterday and I’m pretty sure it’s all good. If not, I paid an extra $7.99 to FreeTax so I can do amended returns free of charge. Last year I had to amend because a forgot a biggie. This year, I’m pretty sure I’m good. So we’ll see.

Second load in the dryer, third in the washer, first folded and put away. I think it’s time to run the dishwasher and (ugh) make the bed.

And the Great Shopping Run is completed, needed to visit 3 stores to obtain all the items but the larder is full and my wallet is empty, so at least there is balance… Got a good workout pushing a very loaded (5 12-packs of soda and a 40-count package of water bottles for starters) shopping cart all over the first store, and then stuffing it in the car and hauling it into the house…but you already know that joy, so I’m preaching to the choir here. If I do make it to the gym today, it won’t be as intensive thanks to the Retail Therapy Workout…

FCM, most of the major burger joints have a place within 3-4 miles of my house, so in my case it’s resisting temptation. Kroger’s had Wendy’s Burgers for sale so I bought a 4-pack and will try them out over the month. Haven’t started my taxes yet, Edward Jones should have their stuff done in a couple of weeks and I usually Turbo-Tax them in March. And I do hope you can make your planned Panama Canal cruise, it will be memorable.

Maus, haven’t napped on the couch for awhile now, I have a big sectional thing so it would be easy to stretch out…

rocky, enjoy 5 Guys, they are expensive but the food is worth it. I try to limit myself to 1 visit every couple months or so.

To all the cold-weather folks, hang in there, Spring will show up…eventually…

Taters, when I was working 5:30am was my usual wakeup time, now it’s closer to 7am (bladder willing). And mornings are meant to be wasted…

JtC, enjoy the company. I’ll consider Lovecraft, but I have so many books at my house to re-read that getting the motivation to start something new…

doggio, grinned at the sketch, nicely thought out.

And sammiches have been devoured as I typed this, so things are well. Will do the abbreviated morning internettin’ and then off to the gym for the requisite sweatage. Have a good afternoon all.

Fried egg sandwich for breakfast. Exercised and puzzled. Received my order of Trappist jams, so we’re restocked for the next six months or so. Sadie is fed and played with and is on her second nap of the day, as is the wife.

Evening all.

Apparently we had more than 1/3 of the average annual rainfall before the end of January, and ever day for the next 2 weeks is forecast for more rain.

I am beginning to think 'the sun’ is a strange myth. The days are blurring together into endless grey. I am countintg down the days until I get to run away on holiday.

One of the tiny pointy-nose-cats would cheerfully eat until she went spherical, the other appears to have the ability to stop. Mostly.

FCD got his boat work done, then helped me make the bed before crawling under the clean covers for a nap. My last load of laundry is in the dryer. It’s overcast and dreary out and snow might move into the area in the next hour or so.

My federal return was accepted. No word from the state yet. Until my dryer finishes, I think I’ll veg in my recliner.
