OK, I have to verify, but it looks like for the first time in many eons we’ll actually be getting a tax refund from both feds and state. Of course, that means I overestimated withholdings last year based on coming up short in previous years. Plus some changes in tax laws were to our advantage. But I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m going to walk away then come back and check it all later.
And a good late afternoon/early evening to everyone. Left the gym and went straight to Jack’s for a burger and fries, my refrigerator is looking pretty bare right now and the big shopping day is tomorrow, so had to go out and forage. Belly is now full and I am in the internettin’ position and will probably stay there for most of the evening. Temperature is 35F going down to 27F, but it’s supposed to reach 60F tomorrow, so we’ll see.
And now to see what’s happening in the rest of the Mumper universe…
red, hope the showering went well.
lily, thanks for the suggestion, will look into the hop-on/hop-off buses, I’m staying near the mail rail station so it should have a stop around there.
I think that was my Mom’s recipe too, she wrote it down for me once but I lost it a long time ago but after she had passed away so I never got to do it. Metro Diner and Logan’s Roadhouse have acceptable substitutes.
Yep, cold showers are not in my vocabulary either. And I still have a land-line for the present, slowly getting around to adapting everything to my phone.
FCM, glad the cover works, happy fabric-ing… And yay! for the tax refund, I think I may owe this year due to the money I took out for the new car (just the interest, but it was several thousand dollars). I’ll do the Turbo Tax thing around the beginning of March.
JtC, glad Hubs has seen the light…so to speak…and hopefully his bowel will become more placid.
Maus, you are right, I need to re-read that story sometime (it’s around here somewhere…). Never read Lovecraft, maybe I need to pickup something and give it a try.
And just past 6pm as I type this, so have a good evening all.
A fairly uneventful Thursday has come and gone. We had croissant sandwiches for breakfast, and my order of salmon arrived in the mail, but that was about it. We’ve warmed up into the 30s, which is nice, and that should continue for much of the the next week. I was able to open the shades and let in some natural light. Sadie was delighted and prowled the window sills.
You are 100% correct, thank you for catching that. Teach me to post before coffee…
But at least it made a fellow cultist speak up
MoM is a fav of mine as well. I once found a french version, done in drawings and english subtitles that was really good. I went looking for it last week with no luck.
I also read a wonderful modern version of CoC (the president of the US nuked the arctic circle to try to stop Cthulhu, but trying to stop a being that travels the intersteller waste land at will just ended up with everyone going insane or their heads exploding. Or both, so it followed the tradition to the end.) that I would like to purchase as a gift, but I’m not having much success there either.
Do be aware that HPL was a product of his time (1920’s) and is casually racist and sexist. He was a prolific writer but only one of his female characters had a name.
I like to read horror and have found HPL influences in most writers because his fears are such a basic part of humanity.
James and I are going to have our binge watching date tomorrow. I stocked up on snacks and will make samwiches as needed. I suggested he bring his bedtime meds and jammies in case he gets stuck here overnight, we are supposed to get hit with another ice storm tomorrow evening.
So as predicted, not a lot happened here today. I gave the floors some attention and both cats got nail trims but that’s about as productive as it got.
Now I’m going to relax from my hard day of doing nothing by stitching for a while. Have great nights everyone.
Howdy Y’all! We procured and stowed provisions. We et fried chikin takeout from the Pubic sto’ for lunch and the daily main need to feed. Much sloth then ensued.
I make beastloaf with two parts ground beast and one part mild bulk snausage. This came about by mistake. I thought I had bought ground poke, but it was mild snausage. I made the beastloaf anyway and it was good. I put a little bit of honey in deviled aigs and that happened by mistake the first time. I reached in the cabinet for paprika and knocked over the honey bear which fell into the aig mixture. The top was a little loose so some honey got in the mixture. I made’ em anyway and they were a hit. I have done it ever since.
MetalMouse you have given me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for Jack’s. We haven’t had their burgers in a while. This must be rectified.
Lipton Souperior Meatloaf. But add a pound of ground deadpig. You can also add some more dehydrated onions, and some Italian seasoning, if you like. I top it with tomato sauce after it’s done, and bake it a bit more.
Date Night at Paso del Norte tonight. I had my typical shredded beef taco salad, but this time I got two enormous fried jalapeños. I cut them up and put them into the salad. They were good. Got a nice histamine reaction. Also, two grande Cadillac margaritas.
Up from naptime, watching hockey. I had a Royal Hawaiian and Southwest style chicken with cheesey potato rounds with Penzy’s Chili 900, and corn, onions, and Hatch chilis.
I also do this.
Tentacles, giant penguins, and being dissected my ancient aliens?
Just watched the start of season 4 of All Creatures and I quit before the episode was over. It just felt tedious and I just didn’t care. But I am enjoying Monarch of the Glen (on Prime) - we’ll see how long that lasts.
Did I mention that I got a small burn on my wrist from the basement fireplace insert? It’s maybe 3/4 inch long and less than a quarter of an inch wide - it touched the frame of the opening for a microfraction of a second, and that apparently is long enough. The other day the scab came off - I suspect from scrubbing or toweling off too vigorously. It bled a wee bit so I put on a bandaid. Then I removed it and the bleeding started again… three times.
This evening, I left it uncovered and it seems to be drying. Maybe a small dab of medicated ointment before bed, but no bandage. It itches like crazy, but it needs to dry to heal. At least that’s my theory. Moral of the story - be careful around hot metal items.
Time to crawl under the comforter. Tomorrow is laundry day and I need a good sleep in order to deal with it! < yawn >
It didn’t happen. Every living being at Sis’ house this morning conspired to delay her. BIL left home without something he needed and she had to deliver. He also forgot to feed the outdoor cats. Nelson’s auntie balked at going outside this morning and his father had to be hunted down to come back inside. Then the squirrel that had been nibbling at her siding (they had the handyman scheduled to come fix it next week) made it all of the way into the drywall and she had to do a temporary patch, so she wasn’t here until almost 1100. If we were going to get the errands done, I had to do a sink bath before she got here. Next week though.
We went to Texas Art Asylum and I spent a whole $1.52 on a pair of shoelaces for the Chucks, a big ass envelope to mail some mini-posters and a Cricut cartridge. Sis spent her allowance for a lot of beads.
Actually, medical advice about wound care has changed significantly in the past decade or so. It is advised to not leave scabs or wounds open to the air, that slows healing. They advise to keep it moist by using ointment or petroleum jelly over the scab/wound to keep it moist, it heals better and faster moist and covered with bandaids kept clean and dry.
The slightest scrapes and scratches can make do with ointment or Vaseline but keep everything else moist and covered.
I still remember the old Band-aid commercials where they “proved” that covered wounds healed faster than uncovered wounds.
I’ve always thought it made more sense to protect wounds from the germy world we live in, but also thought it was probably because kids believe commercials.
10:30pm and bedtime beckons, but not until I do the late-night final. Not that I have done anything of note since my last report, but want to try and be moderately caught up.
JtC, Understand about Lovecraft, I read a lot of 50’s-60’s Science Fiction and the number of future folks lighting up cigarettes in them is rather astonishing. Enjoy the binge-watching.
swampy, they are also reasonably priced. I’m trying to keep track of when I visit a hamburger place so I don’t repeat too often and have recently been tracking prices and a Bigger Jack with Large Fries cost me $9.79 tonight, which is better than most of the major chains.
Flyboy, thanks for the advice but I am way past any desire to cook a full dinner like that. Sounds like date night was a time of feasting.
FCM, hope you heal up quickly. Us old folk sometimes take a while for the bruises and blisters to go away…
Red, better luck next time, glad Sis was able to handle all the alarums and excursions…
BBBoo, thanks for your nurse-y advice.
And that’s all, folks. Slumberland is close at hand. See y’all tomorrow.
Ugh. Rough start to the day, though things improved as the night wore on.
Today’s dough roller is still new to the task, so we had a late start to the day … just nothing we needed was available until last minute.
Sprinkles got in a fight with her B.F. right before coming in, so we had to hear alllllllllll about it, plus she basically shut down and had to be constantly coached through tasks.
One of the Teenagers decided to bring her bitch attitude to everyone, and also seemingly has put me on “mute.” I asked her a question; she looked at me; just … silently walked away.
This was right when Sprinkles and Careless Coworker were bickering, and I couldn’t help it.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
I was watching USA/Swiss mixed doubles curling earlier. They have everyone miced up, so you can hear, except…
Swiss lady: < throws rock >
Swiss guy: < sweeps wrong >
Rock: < misses US rock >
Camera: < focuses on Swiss lady, audio cut >
Swiss lady’s lips: “Fuck”
I’m stuck on Band-aid brand because Band-Aid Brand is stuck on Me!
Nothing worse than running out of Marlboros when the nearest 7-11 is a 6 week burn away.
Sounds like you need to start sending them to the store for a bucket of propwash and some chemlight batteries.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/40f with a predicted high of 6c/44f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “Hey, rain! How about you get fucked?”
It is heartbreaking to see a cat who wolfs down food as if they’re expecting it to be taken away if it’s not finished instantly. I had a rescue mog who was like that, he was incredibly defensive of his food bowl, to the point that I rarely picked it up to refill it. He would hiss and spit at me, until eventually he started to understand that the bowl always came back, and there was always kibble. It took a long time to get through to him, but it was so rewarding when it happened.
See my comment above…takes a long time, but it’s so rewarding when it happens!
Great news! It’s always good when the figures work in your favour for a change.
I think I watched all of it eventually, but I definitely enjoyed the first 3-4 seasons more than the later ones. My favourite characters were always Duncan and Golly
Sounds like you had all the drama before you even saw a customer!
Well, yesterday’s minion meeting went better than I expected so for once, there were no tears. I had another meeting to attend in the afternoon which was short and didn’t really generate any additional work for us so that’s a win too.
I went home and did my usual evening chores, tended to the needs of cats and then settled on the sofa with Blossom so she could have some fuss. ‘im indoors made steak and chips for dinner so that means I’ll need to wash the worktops properly later because I could feel the starchy residue on them. I didn’t have time to do it before I left this morning, but I’m cooking tonight (meatballs and sketties) and I cannot cook until I have clean worktops!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 32 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 61 and sunny. In a little while I shall get beef and veggie soup goin’ in the big slow cooker. That will be sup tonight along with cornbread muffins that are in da freezer. I will thoughtfully warm ‘em up before we eat. The other item on the agenda is to take care of candle and other duties over to the church house. There will be the usual RDOS inactivities as well.
shoe seems like co-irker drama outshone customer drama. Might I suggest that Miss Silent Treatment be assigned a solo task like cleanin’ out the grease trap? Also, readin’ about the co-irker woes makes me even more grateful to be a RDOS. I do not miss that at all.
red sorry you didn’t get your shower. Sis definitely had more on her hands than she needed.
BooFae glad the minion meetin’ went better than expected. Again another reason I am grateful to be a RDOS.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall get the soup started and purtify. I can get away with tshirt, sweatpants, hoodie and sneaks as I will be alone in the church house.
My legs woke me up earlier than I usually get up. I started coffee and did some stretches. It’s 24 ferrets outside, foggy and snowing. An amber alert (boy, those are loud) tells of a child abduction in North Judson.
The Chicago Bears, a venerable team in the Nuffle, is looking to leave their venerable stadium. It’s hard to imagine, but they are even shopping for a new home in Indiana. Astounded emojis!
Some folks, even some in high places, don’t know that Puerto Rico is part of the USA. Every PR citizen is a US citizen. I’m saying so because Bad Bunny will be doing the half-time show at the Superb Owl. Our grumper-in-chief has been grumping about Mr. Bunny already.
My TV/Band-Aid memory is, “I am stuck on Band-Aids, 'cause Band-Aids stick on me.” The proof of faster healing thing didn’t lodge as firmly in my brain.
Speaking of creepy stuff, I’ve started a book called In The Dark by Jack Slater. Just in the first few pages, it seems disturbingly creepy. I’m not sure I want to go through a whole book of that.
