Yeah, I reset most of our clocks, but it’s not yet natural to wake to light and be in the dark by 5:30PM.
How are you adjusting?
Happy Moanday!

First! It’s good to be juvenile!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, and fed, so no YAWN ‘Tis 62 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 80 and N.O.S. Shortly I shall purtify and go deal with some errands. We made the executive decision to have N.O.L. at the good Mexican place. Afterwords fartfest, nappage, day drinkin’ and other RDOS inactivities are on the agenda.
I do pretty good with the change to standard time except for the gettin’ dark earlier. It will all be fine in a couple of days, however.
OK, I suppose I should purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Oh woe and bother!
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Well, we pulled the trigger on a new overlord yesterday. Drove all the way to Coon Rapids humane center, as the one in MSP only had two animals. Turned out that the one up there had a run on cats on Saturday, adopting out some 15 animals. But the one we wanted to see, a 14-year old named Gracie (actually “Grady”, but they changed it) was still there. Got her home and she spent some time exploring before crawling under the bed. Came out for a bit for scritches and seems perky, but so far has not eaten or used her litter box. I hope that changes today. No photos yet.
Cookie conga rats on the new kitteh! I am sure she will adjust and be rulin’ the household in no time.
Yay, kitty! I’m glad you’ve got a new friend, Cookie.
Just for swampy, I tested out the servant’s stairs this morning. They are now satisfactory for the common drivel to traverse.
Currently there is a certain poodle sitting on my lap intermittently licking my arm while I type. Yuck! And MusicMan has just sent me a text to let me know that he safely walked from where his truck is parked to the nearest Bob Evans.
Later today a few appointments between my mom and myself and perhaps a nap to go along with them.
Morning all, Up about 6am (old time 7am) and we’ll see how the adjustment goes. Still tried from the long soccer weekend, today will be recovery and sloth with maybe some swimming if I feel like it. 61F heading to 72F later and no rain, so should be a good day. Need to call brother to make holiday plans, usually do that on Sunday but was too tired to do it, so will manage it today. Otherwise it will be adjusting to a week’s schedule where I have to calculate coaching and refereeing into it (at least until March comes around).
Cookie, congrats and I hope the new feline overlord recognizes how fortunate she is.
Alright, onward into the week.
39° here and we might see mid-60s today. Then a few days in the 70s followed by a return to the 60s. Our weather is so weird.
Hospice nurse is coming tomorrow instead of today, but today is shower day. FCD plans to drive across to the Eastern Shore and get an itemized estimate for all the work we want done on the boat. Then we’ll go thru the list and realize we can’t afford any of it. I don’t know why he tortures himself this way, but he should know we don’t have $35K lying around to replace the fuel tanks, not to mention the rest of the work he wants done. But it does get him away from fretting over his mom and brother, so there’s that.
Meanwhile, I have chores to do, and a pile of poke that’s going onto the slow cooker before getting pulled. Rah!
Yay for new kitty!! Hope she doesn’t get weird like Ziva and spend her life hiding under the bed.
doggio - not sure if you can tell me this, but… what’s the deal with Brown’s tracking? I ordered some stuff from Da Jungle that’s coming from the other side of the country. The tracking link said it left on Oct 30. Then nothing. Do I assume it’s on a truck that’s coming to Merrylande directly from California, so it doesn’t change trucks or otherwise get scanned on the way? I’ve gotten 2 updates - one saying it’s arriving tomorrow, another saying Wednesday - which should I believe?
There’s nothing urgent about it - I ordered replacement cushions for our patio furniture and they won’t be used till spring. But I would like to know when to expect them. Dare I hope that I’ll get an accurate “Out For Delivery” update when they’re put on a truck out of Waldorf?
Things I wonder about when I don’t feel like thinking about life…
Morning all, up and enjoying the (promise of) rain and cooler temps. Storms are massing NW of us so hopefully we’ll get some of the downpours here.
Good to hear of Cookie’s new overlord kitty (I realize it’s technically not a kitty but…). New pets are usually fun and always interesting. We’re approaching the one year anniversary of Lucy joining our family. Not sure what’s planned but she’ll at least get a special meal. Not sure we can top the bacon and eggs she got for waking us up due to the fireplace fire 2 weeks ago, but I’m sure she’ll enjoy it.
As to stuff going on with me: I wisely scheduled my PT and dentist’s appointments to begin this week, giving myself time after returning from the long trip. I unwisely scheduled them for the exact same time today - so I’m trying to figure which one to skip. I still don’t know how I did that, but I managed to screw it up. Since the dentist is examining some teeth that need serious repair, I think I’ll stick with him and mea culpa the PT office with donuts or something as apology.
After the trip I’ve been trying to get a few things sorted out. The camper’s brakes got weaker and weaker as the miles accumulated, and need maintenance. I’ve been calling various shops, only to be told “we don’t work on trailers”. I can take it 65 miles to the RV dealer, but they’re backed up for (literally) months – last time I called they said it was a 6 month delay.
first-world-rant/
This is part of a bigger issue where anyone who’s a millimeter outside the normal “box” finds it difficult to get anything done. Tried to get a new trailer tire installed – tire shop won’t work on anything that won’t fit in a bay, so no trailers (liability reason). Tried to get the new aux tank installed at the shop that did this 5 years ago – won’t work on any type of fuel tank (liability again). Tried to get a mobile RV service to come out and examine the brakes – minimum of $300.00 just to come out and look at it, any repair goes on top of that. Tried to get the medical folk to adjust prescription amounts to align with travel plans - nope, they outright refused to prescribe over a month’s worth for certain meds.
So, two nearly 70 year olds will jack up a large truck and get underneath with power tools to install the tank, will raise the camper and use impact wrenches to remove the offending tire, will lift the trailer on ramps and pull the wheels and brake assemblies off the axles ourselves, and are “walking” some of our meds by skipping a day here and there to get a buffer and align trips and meds (you get the picture).
Everything I’ve bitched about was easy-peasy before the plague… I don’t know what’s happened with shops/offices.
/f-w-rant (sorry)
On to the happy stuff:
Oh well, on to the day – gotta get started. Hope everyone has a good Monday, and sorry about the ranting.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/50f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “This weather is fucking boring. Let’s mold our genitalia out of Play-Doh and show the fucking neighbours.” Err…perhaps not, ok?
Congratulations! I’m sure Gracie will show herself when she’s ready. She will soon have you both under her little furry paw.
Believe both, and neither! It will arrive somewhere on Tuesday, and somewhere else on Wednesday. Neither location may be your house…
Yanker sorry to hear about the RV woes, sounds like nobody wants to be responsible for anything there. But yay for the happy stuff!
I had a very pleasant end to the weekend, I’d been very busy on Saturday so it was nice to be much more of a sloth yesterday. I did have a nice long soak in the bath, did a little bit of administrivia, and a very small amount of cooking but only enough to keep body and soul together. Two of the cats came to sit with me for a while, Shadow wanted to be on my lap right at the time I was ready for my bed, so that got delayed because of course you can’t move a snoozing moggy.
I was up at my usual time this morning, fedicated the mogs, cleaned litter trays, washed my hair and then logged into irk. It’s reasonably quiet today which is a nice change. Had a meeting with the team, then an unplanned chat with one of the mucky-mucks who needed help with something, and then I had a slightly longer than usual lunch break so I could go to the pet shop and get some cat litter. All the noise and commotion with fireworks over the weekend has resulted in some quite anxious feline tummies.
'im indoors should be back from North of the Border today, no idea when because he has only messaged me once all weekend, and that was last night. He’ll show up when he does, he’s an adult and perfectly capable of getting himself home from the station.
Right…time to do so more irk…'tis irksome!
I was almost majorly ticked off a bit ago. I’d bought some country style ribs - slabs of poke about an inch anna half square and 8 or so inches long - to make pulled poke. As I was opening the package, I noticed it said “Bone-in” - dammit! I thought I’d bought boneless.
But as I pulled the pieces out and looked them over, I found exactly one piece of bone, maybe a cubic inch total. The rest was truly boneless! So yay! It’s in the crock pot now, to be pulled later today when it’s falling apart.
FCD has left on his trek across the bay. MIL is sleeping. I’m waiting for a text from the aide. A quiet morning at FairyChatEstate. Oh, and the temp is up to 50°. I know you were wondering.
She was well hidden this morning. We searched every nook and cranny and could not find her. Then she suddenly appeared like she parachuted in from a light fixture. At least she ate something before going back under the bed. I think we’re going to call her “Sadie”, as neither of us are fond of Grady or Gracie, and it’s close enough to her old name for her to recognize it.
Cookie, conga rats on Sadie. And thanks for adopting a senior. Ursala Kitteh was supposedly a senior when I adopted her 8 years ago. I think she was mismarked.
I slept 10 hours last night. I’m beginning to feel that I might live.
I see your cat is in good working order.
Its warm today. I went and got some free clothes and put them right in the washer and they do not wash their donated clothes and could have bugs.
After that, a trip to the grocery store.
I’m still waking up in the dark. That’s why I think we should stay on Standard Time year-round. In Summer, it’s going to be light when you wake up, and light when you go to bed. In Winter, it’s going to be dark when you wake up, and dark in the afternoon. DST is useless at these latitudes.
Cookie, great news on the new overlord! I love the idea of older folks adopting older animals. Something for Mrs W and me to consider when our current fuzzbutts are gone.
The weekend was spent in a cleaning frenzy in preparation for the brothers and SIL visiting. Provisions were also procured, and I’ll make another run for perishables later in the week. (They arrive Saturday and Sunday.) the only big plan is the hockey game Monday night; otherwise mostly laid-back chillin’, as is our family’s wont.
I thought I was done with assembling furniture, but a good chunk of Saturday was spent putting together a new desk in the guest room. Mrs W didn’t like the table the TV was on and wanted something else. I’ve still got Allen Wrench Hands. IYKYK.
Today’s plan is some irking for the AI website and possibly researching potential activities and dinner venues for the fam. Hoping for a restful week before the visit and that the world isn’t thrown into complete turmoil by the election.
Mrs W is annoyed by the time change, as she always is. I’ve done so much traveling across time zones this year that I’ve barely even noticed.
I reset my car radio clock when I went to work. I was in the Mez, then the 300 Slide. A lot of last minute running around, because with the “no sixth punch” thing, nobody working Saturday seems to know what they are doing. I’ll have a good long nap today, and that should realign my internal clock with Standard Time.
Congrats!
Spot licks my head. And I don’t even use the Pantene Fruit Bat Hornk scented shampoo.
if it’s Da Jungle, it might be an entire 53 footer going straight to Merrylande. Or if the tracking number barcode got wrecked but the address and SLIC number are readable, they may just be heaving it into the Maryland bound trailer without a scan, and let the local center deal with it.
Depends on how many Blueberries are loading in Waldof. You may get accurate notification. Your package may end up in the Phantom Zone.
Gotta love Bob’s Country Bunker!
Also fairly useless when you’re not a daywalker.
Well, it turns out BIL was discharged from the hospital on Firday, but it didn’t occur to him to call his mother and let her know. FCD called the hospital this morning to get an update, and all they would say is BIL wasn’t there. Then he told his mother, which freaked her out - even moreso when she couldn’t reach him on the phone. (I’m pretty sure she was pushing the wrong speed dial button.)
So I called him and gave my phone to MIL and they talked a bit. From my eavesdropping, it sounded like he was more worried about his fish than anything. I did hear that the Dr there told him he absolutely has to stay on his meds, but he did change one prescription. So here’s hoping.
I wanted to smack MIL, tho - she still talks to him as if he’s a child. I’m pretty sure that does not go over well with him - it surely pisses me off and she’s not talking to me! I’ll mention it to FCD and see what he thinks.
I’ve cleaned the basement rug and I’ve decided on supper. Plus I rearranged the poke in the slow cooker. Yep, a thrill a minute.
Get yourself a set of allen bits for your drill/driver.
I feel really wonky today. The balance is off, kinda feel drunk, but am not. Not fun.
cookie Congrats on the new overlord. Hope for many years of servitude for you and Mrs Chef.
