The power went out about forty minutes ago. I have the generator running, but the Internet’s/Cable’s backup power is a battery on top of the pole outside. It should last an hour or two. So my work day may be limited. I have cords running through the house, so we have the coffee pot, Internet (as long as it lasts), cable (as long as it lasts), computers, TV, and DVD/Blu-ray player.
We drove half an hour or so to quilt shop in a smaller town north of us. They had sent me an email to announce their 2025 block of the month pick. I have been wondering what I would do next year and this will be the one:
It will start up in February but I certainly did not want to miss out. There were four other quilters on the list so my space is secured.
The power is back on.

I wasn’t sure how busy I’d be today: it was a bit of a crazy morning, but happily I’m able to squeeze in an MMP break! Not-so-happily, I’m eating the last of the stroopwafels I bought on Saturday. They are absolutely terrible for me, so I hardly ever get them, but they’re soooo yummy.
I adapt to the end of DST faster/better than the start of it. I love having more light in the morning – the earlier evening darkness doesn’t bother me – and during the first few days I only really notice the change at mealtime (when I’m hungry an hour “early”) and mornings (I go to bed at the same time, but will wake up early for a few days). Bailey doesn’t seem to have noticed yesterday’s adjustment, but then her internal clock is a bit irregular these days.
You know, I’m glad it’s November: not only will the election be over soon, but this month I get to hang out with my newphew and have 4 days off work and go to my last personal training session and celebrate Thanksgiving with my BFFs and build Lego sets and put out my holiday decorations.
Showoff.
I wonder if maybe her stomach has shrunk so she gets full quickly, but then because she hardly eats anything her body burns it up really fast? A bit of a catch-22, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Yay! Congrats on Sadie!
An important start.
Oooo, I like it!
Any guesses why it went walkies?
We’re having high winds up here, and we have lots of trees. I’m guessing a branch fell on a line. It happens once or twice or several times per year.
FWIW, I’ve learned that it’s better to turn off the generator by turning off the fuel petcock and starving it of fuel, and then turning off the Off/On switch. Starving the engine of fuel keeps the carburettor dry when it’s not in use, so it doesn’t get gummed up and require replacement. (I think we’re on our third carburettor. It took me a while to catch the clue.)
ETA: After posting, a photo came up on my Facebook feed showing a toppled power pole at the ‘main intersection’. It don’t see evidence of impact, and the ‘snap’ is about six or eight feet up judging by the photo.
Glad to hear it. Pretty ugly weather.
Rainy and cool.
One wonders if perhaps “didn’t occur to him” isn’t ezzactly what happened.
If I’d just been to hell & back, my first impulse on getting home would not be “call someone who pisses me off, boy howdy, that’ll make me feel better!”
Oh … how are the fishies? Did any survive?
All the fishies were fine - FCD went over a couple of times to tend to them. Yeah, we have a key to his apartment. Yes, he knows.
Poke is smelling yummy. It’s about time to do some pulling so I can package it. So I shall.
today i had a dr appt at 8 am. ick! due to the rally site across the street, i took the 7am shuttle. we wove our way around road closures, and i got to the dr. office 30 minutes early.
she was able see me right away and i was out of the office by 8am. i felt this called for 2 boston creme doughnuts.
the afternoon shuttle has been canceled. good thing i had planned on walking home. i reckoned on the shuttle being crazy delayed.
my choices for tonight are rally or laundry. my nifty new drumstick slippers are quite the siren call.
congratulations on sadie! i’m sure as the temps go down she will start the snuggle.
If you recall, my wife bought me a custom, 8’ x 5’ x 2’ wood stack cover, and I built a PVC frame for it. Last year (or earlier this year) I mad a ‘cap’ for it: A sheet of OSB with 2x2s on the bottom to fit between the top PVC pipes, and a 2x4 on top to increase rigidity and to make a peak so the water and snow doesn’t collect in the valleys where the PVC pipes are. I also added some OSB to the back and sides for rigidity and weight.
Well… The wind blew it over. I know that, being empty, it had been pushed across the deck and up to the kayaks be previous wind storms. I didn’t think it would blow over. It was a PITA to get the cover off (the zipper was face-down). I moved it right next to the house, blocking the back bedroom’s back door. The ‘cap’ I made is bloody heavy. Anyway, it’s all back to the way it was. I put a small sheet of OSB over the floor pipes on the upwind side and put a cinder block and a half-cinder block on top of that. I’m hoping it doesn’t blow over again.
MIL declared my pulled poke needed more fat. That was based on just looking at it… with her nearly blind eyes. Then she tasted it and said it was good. Whatevs… I have 4 half-pound bags of poke in the freezer plus a bit less than half a pound in the fridge for maybe tomorrow. Once I sauce it and add onions, it will make 2 and maybe 3 sammiches, considering MIL barely eats half a bun’s worth.
Meanwhile, supper will be a pseudo stroganoff on noodles, plus peas-n-carrots. FCD should be here any time - he called me from about 20 minutes away. Sunset is about 35 minutes away. Ugh.
Howdy Y’all! I survived errands and we et Mexican foodstuffs for N.O.L. Then nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished. Also the biiiiiig trash can got hauled all the way back up from the road to where it lives durin’ the week. Next up is Netflix, chill, and popcorn time. Thus is the news from swampland.
Happy Moonday!
It’s chilly outside again. In a way it’s a good thing, because every time the boxelder bugs show up it gets cold and they disappear.
No phone calls today, I couldn’t get motivated to make them
I got some other stuff done though. I even started writing out some Christmas cards.
I ordered heartworm and flea pills for the dogs and the order is messed up. So, another f’up to deal with. I think it might be because the vet has Misiu’s name spelled wrong. I guess I should have just spelled it Mishu. They have it spelled Misinu.
Misiu keeps carrying my socks outside. He doesn’t chew them, just carries them out and drops them in the yard.
All three do the same with their toys. They carry then out and distribute them throughout the yard. When my son picks them up to mow the lawn, they spread them out again. Every toy has its own random place in the yard.
Socks don’t.
The time change doesn’t bother me much. It is a little weird that it gets dark so early.
My phone and puter reset themselves. My son handle the stove and microwave. I don’t know if I have to reset the time in this truck or not. I’ll find out tonight.
I’m not looking forward to driving through the city with it this dark. Too many assholes who will walk right out in front of you, and they are going to be harder to see now.
Also, too many people riding scooters with motors. They will weave in and out of the cars and run red lights. I saw one night a guy had some kind of seat rigged up in front of him and had a baby riding in it.
I’m sure they aren’t legal.
One of my friends was just in a accident with one. He ran into her, and he was badly hurt. She is scared of getting sued even though he is the one at fault.
I joined NextDoor again. It’s been somewhat useful.
Although the first day I had to block two people. I never block people, but these two kept showing up and they were just annoying.
I found out that the problem with the trash company is that they can’t keep truck drivers.
And I am not the only one pissed off about the new speedbumps on 40. I’m waiting for the first accident as some people come to a complete stop and then creep over the bumps. You don’t need to to stop, but some people do.
I think I am a bit grumpy today.
Evening all. Swimming has been swum and am dining on a Culver’s Butterburger for dinner, then may go to the gym for a little pedaling to nowhere while watching tackleball. Need to call brother this week for Thanksgiving plans, probably will do that tomorrow. Strange after nearly 3 months there is no soccer to worry about. Car is almost cleaned out of soccer stuff, still have to put said stuff in all the right places but that isn’t a big priority, long as I’m not tripping over it.
yanker, hope the dental trip went well and the donuts were good… And best of luck on the tank installation, I cannot personally relate not owning a trailer or doing my own work, but yeah, getting refills can be a pain. Am imitating Pavlov’s dogs about the brisket. And good news on the Dad front.
boo fae, sounds like you enjoyed your time alone, hope work was less irk-some than expected.
In other words, a normal cat…
Wheelie, hope the family get-together is fun.
FCM, family is what we have, in-laws are what we get. Hang tough.
VanGO, take care for another day, sounds like whatever bug you have is on it’s last legs but still packs a punch. Maybe Tuesday…
flyboy, glad to hear power was only out for a short time. Hope the wood pile gizmo stays put.
Hippie, looks like quite a project, enjoy (and share) it in 2025.
Oopsie, had stroopwafels a couple times when I was in Europe and liked them, will have to make an effort to look around here for them. And sounds like you have November all planned out (just don’t tell Murphy!).
Sari, probably the socks have your scent and they want your presence to be with them always…or they are just brats… And the scooter idiots probably worry me more than Ali-bama drivers, especially since it’s dark by 5:30pm now. And it a Constitution Right to be a little bit grumpy (well, no, but it ought to be…
Dinner is done and bag is ready for the evening gym trip…when I’m ready…have a good night all.
I like the way you think.
DST or standard, I wake up and go to irk in the dark, but in late December, I’m heading home just before dusk.
Yay! You know the new kitteh tax.
Get the iodine!
The mute button will have a positive effect on your BP.
Sounds like Nelson and his toys, only his are indoors.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et supper. IOW, just a typical Monday.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Ain’t none of us liking this clock changing shit. The fuzzbutts are especially not happy, their routines depend on us being predictable. Jolene started nagging me to make lunch around 11 because she wanted her piece of deli chicken. (Which she gets even if nobody has a deli chicken samwich that day. How come we always end up with the spoiled cats? We just do not get it.)
The trees are starting to look a little bare, but there is still some color. My petunias are still blooming, but are starting to look pretty peaked. I used to struggle so much trying to keep my posies alive in the desert heat, I really had no idea how effortless it would be here.
We haven’t seen any SFS in their nest box, but hubs got very excited to see a Cardinal checking it out.
We were planning to go visit his sickly cousin tomorrow, but she has several doctor appointments. Wednesday will work just as well so that is the plan.
Does your Bob Evans advertise 30 meals for under 8.99? Cracker Barrel advertisements post prices for their deals and it was really interesting to watch the prices fluctuate depending on the area. No CB in town, so we go the Tudors when we want breakfast out.
One of our cats chewed through the power cord for the TV last week. Of course I had to unplug it and rub tuna on the cord and then finish the job with scissors, but our TV is unusable until he finds a replacement cord.
I’m glad about the rest of the happy stuff for you. Hurray for your dad!
Welcome home Sadie. You are going to be living your best years now!
And do you really think it matters if she recognizes her name or not? She won’t come unless she wants to no matter what you call her. She’s a cat and that’s what cats do.
Is that a good or bad thing? Last time I had the flu, I can remember one day when I was afraid that I might live to suffer another day.
I really hope this is nothing. I have so many words about the insurance run medical system here.
That is going to be spectacular! I’m looking forward to seeing it.
FIL would get tired of eating and then proclaim himself to be full. Just the effort of eating can be tiring to someone who has no energy to start with.
Excellent choice!
The normal adoption fee there is $340 (!). But since she was older and not as desirable, they had halved it.
When MusicMan started looking for a job, he applied at the local trash company in part because they were offering a $5000 sign on bonus.
I’m not sure. I haven’t been to Bob Evans in awhile and he was in Pennsylvania. I do like the ‘heat and eat’ meals that Cracker Barrel has for $5 that you can order if you order a take out entree.
Tomorrow is my appointment with the psychiatrist. We’ve switched it to in person so that he can see my interesting movements. The weird thing to me is that they kinda come and go. Today they haven’t been as bad as they were over the weekend. The other thing I’ve been wondering is if it has anything to do with Burning Mouth Syndrome or Small Fiber Neuropathy.
Ok, I’ve got to pick the dancing poodle up off of the floor.
Done did my biking followed by shoulder exercises. I’m convinced what I’m dealing with is a frozen shoulder because those exercises are really working. I seem to recall with my other shoulder it took about 3 months to get right again, and I’m already getting a greater range of motion and less pain. So yay!
Dishes are done but I’ll wait till morning to put them away. Now it’s time for chillage!
Forgot earlier: shoe, BIL is very very self-centered in all things. I truly believe it never occurred to him that his mother might be concerned. In that respect, he is very much like a child. On the rare occasions when I was talking to him, I could tell the whole time that he wasn’t connecting with me, if that makes sense. He’d jump to topics that interested or concerned him. And for now, I’m the only person he hasn’t gotten pissed off at, but then I don’t tell him what to do. I don’t know…
The nurse comes tomorrow - her husband had some sort of procedure today and she was with him. So we have that to look forward to. Dunno what else. We’ll improvise as necessary, as usual.
Meanwhile, back to chillage.
Not that! I’m talking pics.
