I laundered. Spot and I napped. Pro handegg gave me angina, but make me happy. Having a gin Saketini with salmon, wild rice blend, and sauteed green beans and 'shrooms for dinner

Late night special. Looks like no Thanksgiving this year, my eldest nephew has surgery scheduled at the Cleveland Clinic at the start of December and niece can’t get away so Brother and SIL are cancelling the family get-together, I guess I could drive up there for a day or so but from the tone of the conversation, I didn’t hear an invite, so on my own.
Hopefully by Xmas things will have settled down and I can make it up there.
Sorry to end this week’s Rat-ing’s with a little downer, but hey, missed 4 Thanksgivings while living over in Abu Dhabi so been there before.
And rain is due shortly…ah well, there is the next MMP to look forward too.
My wife and I were invited to Thanksgiving Dinner by an ‘elder’ of her church, so no cooking the Thanksgiving Feast (for just the two of us) in… forever. Her birthday is on the 24th, so we’re going to the expensive steak house for her birthday.
I remember that. My mother’s last night at home was restless for me. I kept checking through the night on her breathing, totally expecting it to stop. The next morning she agreed to go to hospital. That was when we found out just how bad the heart failure was.
It is so difficult being on constant watch. Very draining and stressful.
My piping skills used to be very good, At the cafe and at the one hospital I decorated a lot of things. My bosses at both places let me work on the projects after hours. Of course when I got awards I had made sure to list the employer that was sponsering me.
Now I have been developing hand tremors but on this creation so I’m not planning on really intricate piping work, It will mostly be straight edging or the inside bracing work. The color and decoration will mostly be the windows of the “cottage” Like cathedrals the walls will mostly be support for the “glass” This is done, like you mentioned, by half baking a piece with the windows or other holes already cut out. I take them out and let them cool a bit, then into the open spaces I spoon crushed hard candies of chosen colors. When the pieces go back in the oven the candy melts and forms a thin sheet that sticks naturally to the edges of the hole.
I did once do a cathedral, so I could do LOTS of glass. That one took almost two weeks of after hour work to finish.
The recipe I use for the gingerbread itself has no leavening so when baked it does not puff up, well, not too much. I can use all manner of decorating gadgets to press in lines before baking, and afterwards touch them up with dots of icing.
Thanks for the good wishes. Too bad we can’t get together and do one together.
