Afternoon everyone! Right now I’m typing from my brand-new laptop!! It’s so fast; it’s like night and day with my old one. Today’s gonna be dedicated to setting everything up and getting everything imported that I need.
Well, that was an adventure…
We met with Dave, discussed how we’ve done in the 10 years we’ve been dealing with him, and decided we’d start taking a draw from my annuity. It will be enough to pay for Tobias to go to the Montessori school starting in January, with some left over that will go into a savings account. We won’t touch FCD’s annuity till he’s 70, and the 3rd fund is just for emergencies, or for the kids’ education. I’ll go back on Sep 1 to sign the paperwork to start the annuity draw.
We finished the meeting, went to the car, and discovered the battery was dead. It’s a keyless ignition, and after we’d parked and stopped, FCD had switched it back on to accessory to open the sunroof, then forgot to turn it off. So it ran the battery down. And this is why we have AAA. Unfortunately, the guy couldn’t get to us for 90 minutes. Dammit.
Fortunately, Firehouse Subs was across the parking lot and we were ready for lunch. That killed some of the wait time. Then we went back to the credit union and sat in the lobby till AAA got there. Those little portable jump gizmos are too cool! He told us to run the car about 35-45 minutes, which gave us an excuse to drive to the marina for a couple of tools, then back home. FCD is back in his shop and I’ll join him as soon as he needs my help.
Just a note to those who weren’t present: his fur looks a little odd in that one because I’d just bathed him and he wasn’t quite dry yet.
what a cutie!
Still wet behind (and in front of) the ears in other words.
Howdy Y’all! We got some cookin’ done for tomorrow, but other than that ‘tis been a day of large sloth and uselessness. This has, of course, included nappage and day drinkin’. We did hot dawgs and fries for a late N.O.L./early sup.
No cats for me thank you. They are cute, but if I were goin’ to have another pet it would be a dawg. Always been a dawg person. Also a Dawg fan.
{{{Quietly}}} so sorry about Pixel.
HAPPY SWAMPY’S BIRTHDAY EVE! OK, who’s getting him a puppy?
I’m getting odds and ends done before I walk. Next up: calling eye clinic again to leave message for Melissa that she needs to order another lens from the Extremely Weird and Lethargic lens manufacturer. She may have done so, but she didn’t call me back. Then I’m going to clean out the freezer. After the giddiness of that merriment fades, I’m going to walk to the gym to do sitting-weights stuff and then to the grocery store. I’ll spend the evening icing my knee, but C’est la vie, c’est la guerre.
FCM, maybe a stupid question, but can’t you have the bills arrive to your email so MIL doesn’t even see them? Also, I hope you get the old Viking from your mom. I like to think his name is Gunnar and that he mutters while he stitches.
JtC, I wish there were some easier path for you to take. Within this cursed disease, there’s the blessing that your mom is unaware she has it. She’ll fade into the past and then into her misty dreams. It’s you I’m sorry for. {{{Jane}}}
Bob and Seanette, he’s adorable! Oh, that grumpy, freshly-washed little face! He’s irresistible. What do four-week-old kittens eat if they have no mama handy?
Quietly, I’m so sorry you lost your beloved Pixie. I get misty-eyed thinking of you crying in your car. Sending you comforting hugs.
GodBod, enjoy that new laptop!
I know that’s not everybody, but it’s hard to keep up!
Afternoon all. Got some money in my pocket and hopefully a few more calories burned, so that was the basis of the early afternoon here. When I got home I jumped back on Amazon and the upshot is I have about $37 remaining of the $800 Delta paid me for my seat, all of it is stuff I would be getting sooner or later and will keep the credit card account under control (I hope). Still 95F outside so despite the Recycle truck emptying my can this afternoon, I am in no rush to go get it.
God Bod, enjoy that new laptop speed.
{{quietly}}, saying I’m sorry and you did the right thing doesn’t help, but it is the truth. Be well.
Nettie and Bob-B, lovely picture, don’t think they’llhave any trouble finding him a home.
FCM, sounds like a good plan, hope it all works. And my radio stays on for about 45 seconds after I shut off the engine, so I always check to see it’s shut off. And AAA really does help in those situations.
Yep, Wadsworth, Ohio in the mid-50’s was too small for a hospital so I was born in Akron.
OK, onward!
I’m not sure what he was doing before I found him, but I got him some kitten formula. He drinks that from a shallow dish, but doesn’t seem to quite understand solid food. I’m guessing he hasn’t been separated from his mother very long, since he’s apparently healthy (did have goopy eyes, but I got that cleaned up).
Oh I am so sorry. That’s one of the hardest things a pet person can do. But it’s the last and most loving as well. I’ve taken pets in for that last visit, but I like to have someone with me, Driving with that on your heart must have been so hard. We are all here to cry on as needed.
Which explains the grumpy look on his face!
I’m super grateful about that. Dad didn’t seem to be troubled either but it is still upsetting to watch.
One of my sisters failed to launch so Mom has supported her all of her life. Mom raised her children and some of the grandkids. she is still supporting a couple of them. This sister hates me and her other big sister with a passion because we both think that she should get a job and give Mom some money for rent.
So, because that sister still lives with Mom and turns into a total bitch whenever I’m around, I won’t even try anymore and will not go into her home. Despite Mom owning the place and paying for everything, it is sister’s house and she is sure that everyone knows this.
Sister does finally have a job, it’s at a hotel and she works nights. She was using her personal car to shuttle guests to and from the airport and got into an accident. She can’t turn it in to her insurance, but the guy who hither will pay for it when he gets the money. As a result, she is taking Mom’s car to work because nobody wants to pay for a rental car.
I haven’t seen Mom today because her fridge died last week and she is having a new one delivered today. Of course the other person living in the home can’t lose any sleep over this, so Mom had to stay home to wait for the fridge and then will be taking my sister out for dinner and then to play bingo because that is their routine and sister threw a fit when Mom suggested missing it for a week.
I went to the Bird of Prey center and looked at the birds and enjoyed listening to the docents. They had a Red Tailed Hawk, Phoenix, that visited for part of the main lecture, and Phoenix was very relaxed and willing to follow directions until someone opened a door that let Phoenix see the big eagle in the cage outside the center. Phoenix wanted to kick some eagle’s butt and appeared to be very lucky that she was on jesses because that was the only thing keeping her back.
If he’s still visiting tonight, try mixing some gooshy fud with a lot of the kitten milk to make a kind of a slurry and see if he takes that.
Busy day for a day off. First I went to the dentist for a cleaning. Next was City Mac to get a new battery for my iPhone 6s. I haven’t used it in three years (I think), but I wanted something I could put into a waterproof pouch so I could use it to take pictures when I’m kayaking. It wouldn’t connect to the Apple store’s system, so they had to install the newest OS – which I tried to do at home, but couldn’t for some reason. The reason it needs to be connected to their system is that Apple requires it for ‘changing parts’, including batteries. I found out that batteries will not be available after this one, since Apple is not supporting the 6s. Anyway, I should have a new battery in a couple of hours.
Speaking of batteries, I wanted to wear my Hamilton Ventura today. It was dead. I went to Fred Meyer to get a new battery, and the woman and her colleague didn’t think they could change it because the back has screws instead of a tab. They’re sending it down to Lynnwood, and I’ll have it back in a couple of weeks.
Refuelled, cooking a pre-made ⅓-pound hatch chile & provolone burger patty, and Wifey, RN just got home.
And Weeble has been collected by nice kitten fosterer. He’ll be fine.
Bast purrs at you and hubs.
For whatever, the apartment folks deliver paper statements. MIL thinks they’re bills. It’s out of our control. Alas.
And my mom replaced Gunnar with Necchi. I just ordered a heavy duty Sinder. I’ll give my old machine to my daughter. So sewing will resume in a week.
Chillage continues.
Afternoon, mumpers! Have you missed me while I have been in the internet-free wilderness?
We have been travelling around seeing lots of great places, finally returned the rental car with a little over 1k miles on it than it had this time last Friday Pics are on farcebook although the last place we stayed (population 123!) had really slow speeds so we struggled to upload anything.
Back in sunny Arcata where it’s 19c/66f and sunny. On the drive here, we saw temps up to 93 ferret heights so am glad to be somewhere cooler. The long trip home starts with a flight back to San Francisco in a couple of hours and an overnight stay there. We leave in the afternoon for a 10.5hr flight back to London, and then a train back to our home town. So by Saturday night, we should be back with the fuzzbutts.
I have read much but retained little…hugs to those that want/need them, condolences to those in pain, and yay for everyone who has something good going on!
John Mellencamp went to school with my cousin for a couple of years. Personally, some of his stuff is more country than a lot of top 40 country stations play.
{{{silenus}}} I’m so sorry about Pixel. Hugs to you and the rest of the clowder.
That’s good on you using your annuity for the GK’s education Mooooom.
seanette and bob, Weeble is an adorable little guy, even wet and grumpy. He should become a slavemaster toot-sweet.
CasaRoja is clean, laundry is done, groceries bought, prescriptions picked up and the gas tank filled. I figured out the app issue on my own, so’s I didn’t have to go to AT&T. However, I’m going to have to YT how to sync the new phone to my car (again!). I should have bought a new phone when my touchscreen was still operable. It would have made things so much easier to just transfer data (on an unlocked phone, I could have done that even with a borked touchscreen, but with a locked one, I had no way to unlock it).
Now to chill and have a dessert of strawberry shortcake.
Dinner has been dined.
Oil the skin-side of two salmon filets. Sprinkle with kosher salt. Add a couple of sprigs of freshly-cut rosemary. Top with lemon slices. I cooked these on the barbie. The skin came out nice and crispy, and it all had a barbie taste. We also had steamed yellow squash.
How nany freekin’ times of Major Crimes is too many? My spousal unit wil watch the series from beginning to end over and over again, even all the whiny Rusty episodes. So he’s watching in the living room and I’m surfing in bed. I can’t even sit in the same room and ignore it - the show irritates me!
We have a full day at the school tomorrow and probably Sunday, too. Not much time before classes resume…
