(Old) When Mom's Away...A Coasterless MMP

Ummm, wouldn’t that make it clam chowder? Oyster crackers recommended. (why are they oyster crackers if they usually just come with chowder?)

Damnit oyster now doesn’t look like a real word.

But, good use of too much milk.

No! Salmon chowder! Only with clams instead of salmon!

Wayfair, eBay, and a variety of other places on line. They’re called Dirty Bird Coasters.

Happy birthday, FCM! Did you get cake?

I’ll bet the driver never forgot either!!!

I killed a rabbit about 35 years ago. I still feel badly about it. Killing a kid would destroy me.

See! You don’t need to bring home another drool monster, Spot will happily tear things up for you when he isn’t busy looking all cute and stuff.

Here’s ours doing their best to look cute and innocent.

One of those miscreants made off with my favorite laying tool and I’m not thrilled to be using my second best one. Hopefully it was VBC, she brings me all of her toys every day so she would bring that as well. If it was GG…it is gone forever.

Do you just plop one on a bed of lettuce, or do they get sliced? I thought they needed a nice mustard sauce but hubs used ketchup on his.

I’m so glad you are able to post again, but with a new kitten you are going to have your hands full!

:people_hugging:

Those are so cute!

I have words about what has happened to medical care nowadays. I won’t say them. I sure hope you can get your refill soon.

The dirty water in the tank is why we don’t have carpets anymore. What with the dust and the cats, there was no way for me to keep the carpets clean enough to walk barefoot on them.

I’m glad your plumbing saga is coming to an end, hopefully this will be the last time you see a plumber in your home for a very long time!

I got to town today, didn’t get my x-rays because they are walk-in so I got there at 0800 so I wouldn’t have a long wait. Then I learned they didn’t open until 1000.

I did go to the dairy and picked up 7 gallons of milk. I’ve got too much going on this week to make 15 wheels of parm - they are really finicky during pressing so I’ll get five wheels going tomorrow afternoon and then use the other two gallons for Mozella, ricotta and cottage cheese because I’m in the mood for lagena. I’ll get the other ten gallons next week when I go to get my x-rays at 1000.

We also got rain, according to my rain gauge we got .9 inch. It was very nice.

I was once serving salmon chowder at a big dinner. It was in the hospital I worked for as a baker. I dumped two bowls right into the lap of a guest. He kind of jumped up but didn’t act angry, although I think I could tell he was holding his temper in check. He had a name that might be recognized in the medical profession. I will be always greatful he didn’t yell at me or anything. It truly was an accident and we paid to have his suit cleaned.

It is FOGGY tonight. Ever so faintly misting. Driving home looked like a post-apocalyptic horror movie. Would absolutely not have been surprised to see a coupla zombies shuffling out of the mist.

The hell you got goin’ on over there in Retired Land that’s so damn important?

Is that, like, a pirate thing?

Eh, fuck 'em. Put 'em outta your mind.

Yup, ezzactly.
… and you better do it soon, or we’ll … we’ll … uh, we’ll think of something!

Your what now?

I forgot about your hobby and for a half second wondered if perhaps you were babysitting a teenage boy.

Alright, y’all, it’s time for a snack, a smoke, and sleep.

Ah, the 3 S’s.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I wonder what the mouthbreathers and TVCTPMO have in store for me today?

Awwwww

Luckily the only thing Spot does is heave his toy mice into his food dish. “These dry flavorless bits are fit only for feeding ASFs!” - Spot

JtC: “Buy a gallon of milk, and if they have bananas in stock, buy seven.”
Hubs: < sees bananas in stock, buys 7 gallons of milk, per instruction >

Why Do people wake up during the night?
I usually just change position, but when I feel a little too wakey, I go right to trying wordle. And the Dope!

For me this morning it was because of a thunderstorm.

MetalMouse - when my mom and I cruised Princess transatlantic 10 years ago, it was great, hence my disappointment now. Oh well.

JtC - no cake, but I did have a brownie and some ice cream. I think that counts.

And thanks all for the b-day recognition. Still don’t feel 70… much.

It’s 6:30 and we’re docked in Punta Arenas. At home, I’d be up and tending the critters by now. Here, I can remain abed without worrying. I’ll get up eventually. I need to rinse out a few things in the sink, then we have our excursion at 3. Mostly a chill day ahead.

Happy Wednesday!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 9c/48f with no predicted change, and cloudy. Weather app says “I often give zero fucks on days like today. Apparently, fucking Mother Nature also gives zero fucks.” At least the last named storm has blown through, but I’m not sure whether the new storm (Jocelyn) has arrived or is still on her way.

If they’re full-sized Scotch Eggs, they’re usually cut into quarters and added to a plate with other salad veg of our choice. If they’re mini Scotch Eggs, they’re put on the plate whole because cutting them is too much of a faff. What you serve them with is very much personal choice - mustard or ketchup is good, so is pickle. For me, it depends on the amount of seasoning in the coating and also if you’ve used seasoned sausagemeat as well. There’s not really a right or wrong

Moooom hope you enjoyed your birthday celebrations on the ocean wave - has the sea calmed down today?

Nothing exciting in my day today, I have had my head in forms and editing pages so my eyes deserve a bit of a break. We have doughnuts in the office today, leftover from an event this morning so that will go nicely with my next cup of tea. I have done a mandatory online equality/diversity training session and achieved the required level to pass, and later today I will be attending a session called “Demystifying Governance” which should explain how our illustrious establishment is run and who makes the decisions.

Fortunately I am going out with my pub friends tonight which will make my day much better!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out and rainyish with a predicted high of 74 and rainyish for the day. It will be a day of light rain off and on, hence rainyish. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. Outside of that it will be a day to stay inside and dry and hone sloth skills. Sup shall be leftovers from yestiddy.

Lily love the coasters.

sari that’s weird that the doc didn’t send in your refill. I guess I’m fortunate in that my doc will send in a three month supply at a time and will, if I’m in his office for a visit just go ahead. Other times all it takes is a call to his office and shortly thereafter I get notified from the pharmacy that doc has done so.

JtC GG and VBC look so sweet and innocent!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe is me!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Mornin’ all.

It’s pouring down rain and the commute down here was definitely icky due to standing water on the interstate.

I am sitting outside Haggen waiting til they open so I can get my yogurt and nanner. The workday will be filled with meetings, bleh. I completed my DEIA training yesterday. I wish they woul just let us read. I hate watching videos. I can’t advance to the next section until the video is complete. It took me 1.5 hours to get through the training.

Sending hugs, yays and bois as appropriate.

Mornin’ all. About 20 minutes after sunrise on a glorious day. A few clouds for contrast, and 76/24 on the way to 80/26 and breezy. “Normal” winter has returned. I’m just fed at better-than-Denny’s and am proceeding to golf once I’ve finished caffinatin’ and MMPin’.

I’ve read all, and have bandwidth for only a couple comments. Hooray for new MMPers, new critters, new birdie coasters, and {{{hugs}} to truefish as she deals with dear old Dad’s ongoing and maybe final crisis.

Here in LSL-Land it’s hard right now too.

My friend whose Mom had a major stroke ~2 weeks ago is getting that situation under control. Mom’s ability to think is fine, her ability talk & move half her face is recovering well, and she’s got some feeling back but no movement (yet) in the affected side of her body. Hospitalization is changing to rehab and progress is being made on all the many admin fronts to make all this happen and deal with her total lack of planning for old age, infirmity, or death. And her handicapped-inappropriate residence. But at least her death is no longer an imminent possibility.

So a glass very much not full, but filling slowly.

Then there’s me.
On Monday night I told Her Ladyship I was no longer willing to remain married in the situation we had drifted into. She was unhappy of course, but her overall reaction wasn’t far from “Yeah, I sorta expected that.”

I love her, I respect her, I care a lot that she is happy, but I don’t really like her. And as best I can determine inside her opaque personality, she thinks/feels similarly. I’d call it “Two great tastes that taste bad together”. We don’t fight; I still haven’t yelled at her since we got together 2-1/2 years ago, and she’s done it only once to me. We’re just roommates who mostly avoid one another because it’s so difficult to talk about anything without it becoming a mutually uncomprehending bicker about trivialities. The good part is we’re both comfortable with the other pursuing their own interests and activities. The bad part is there’s zero to negative togetherness when we’re together. That’s no way to live; at least not for me.

We had fun dancing, but the connection stopped the moment the music did. That had been my last effort to bridge the unbridgeable, and I think it was for her too.

I’d sum up the situation in two comments I made to her:

I don’t want to hurt you, but I’ve got to stop hurting me.

I either just destroyed my future or saved it, and I honestly can’t say which yet.

We spent Tuesday in an even more aloof mode than usual and both looking and sounding like our dog just died. We’re letting the reality sink in and leaving time for either of us to decide this is savable and we’re willing to try. I’d need a bunch of persuading but I’m deliberately keeping myself persuadable.

After I finish breakfast here now I’m going golfing to clear my mind and to spend the time until she arises, then I’ll begin gathering a small amount of must-have stuff and moving out, probably to an extended stay hotel while I locate a new apartment and furnish it.

This is a miserable experience and I hope it proves worth it. One of my longtime friends offered a thought: “There is no healing without pain.”

So far he’s right about the second part.

Cheers all! Onwards to victory!

Heavy fog (or low-lying clouds) in Mipples this morning and about 32F. Gonna be another slow day here at The Crypt. Sounds like they have a line on a new van driver, which is good; she just has to pass that pesky background check.

Cornmeal pancakes again this morning with the leftover batter, perhaps with sausages.

Time to feed Ms. Q’itih.

I left my cake in slightly too long last night and now its less sweet! Better eat it up fast so I can make another correctly.

Morning all. A bit rainy outside (more expected this evening) but 56F heading to 62F which is pretty good for a January. Awaiting calls from the plumber and a visit from the Pest control folks, then will see what develops for the rest of the day. Do need to return the Carpet cleaner by 1pm, shouldn’t be an issue.

Pilot, I…I’ve got nothing. Being a life-long bachelor I have no experience that can help in the situation you are in. I really hope that things either end (or re-start) amicably, but know that we Mumpers are here for you when you need to talk.

Taters, government training is so much fun,(for those like me who didn’t know right off, DEIA is Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility training.

FCM, enjoy your tour.

Any bets that it will bear almost no resemblance to reality?

Ah, the ages-old mystery. In my case, Mr. Kidney with the Bladder is usually the culprit.

Around here that usually seen about 2am near the Waffle House…

JtC, a lovely picture of peace and contentment (HA!!). Hope your tool shows up.

I remember my last time in London,England, the travel cards there (for using the buses and tubes) were/are called Oyster Cards, no idea how they came up with that name.

While I was typing this the Pest control people came, did their termite inspection (none found) and departed and I have broken fast. So warming up the house and probably will fill the Carpet cleaning tank and have another go at the great room. Take care all.

My dad liked oyster stew. I’m guessing it was a fading thing, because I don’t recall seeing it on any menus. He got his out of a can (Campbell’s?). He ate his soup with saltines. But I’m guessing that when oyster stew was common, people ate it with oyster crackers.

Also, IIRC, they’re hollow in the middle, right? So they’re kind of oyster-like?

If you imagine it’s not a real word, you can give it a not-real pronunciation. Try making it rhyme with ‘moisture’.

I’ve only had Scotch eggs at my favourite pub, but I moved away a couple of decades ago. IIRC, they were served with mashed potatoes and peas, and had brown gravy.

BooFae - as we’re at anchor at Punta Arenas, the water is close to dead calm. So taking a shower this morning wasn’t the balancing act it has been. I just finished rinsing some undies and they’re on the balcony drying. I’ll be amazed if they dry because I couldn’t wring them out very well. But it’s a start, and they can stay out there all night if needed.

Pilot, that sounds like a rather grim situation. Hope you can arrive at a mutually satisfactory decision without undue ugliness. It’s never simple, is it?

FCD is having a snooze. We’ll head to deck 4 to catch a tender to the port - around 1-ish I think. We meet for our tour at 2:45 and we’re due back at 6 in time to set sail for Ushuaia. So about 90 minutes to kill.

All this relaxing is rough!

Unlimited :people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging::people_hugging: and listening winging your way. Will be thinking of you.
