Omnibus Religious Fucks in the NEWS

Same with me; I sent a donation to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after a friend’s mother died. And then I started to get solicitations from them. I told them to stop.

I may have missed this in this thread, but:

Two Catholic priests claim that being charged with sexual abuse violates their religious freedom.

Both priests, Joseph Herzing and Aaron Kuhn, were active in the St. Cloud, Minnesota area, and are represented by the same attorney.

The attorney has filed for reduced charges

Who would have ever suspected this guy of sexual misconduct?

Their defense has some twisted logic in it though. It’s literally the same as arguing that because you carved the image of a cross onto the stock of an assault rifle, any attempt to deprive you of carrying it wherever you want to go is infringing on your freedom of religion.

He looks suspiciously like a son of Serge Gainsbourg, another skeevy character (not religiously, though).

Turns out the jingle is NOT the worst thing about “Kars 4 Kids”.

Granted, those ads were quite nonspecific as to what they were going to do 4 Kids with those Kars. However, given the diversity and modern clothing of the happy-looking Kids in the nationally broadcast ads, I think a reasonable consumer would assume it was something more…ecumenical…than funding trips to Israel for ultra-Orthodox teenagers in one particular town in New Jersey.

The State of California agrees, and has ordered them to desist from airing commercials which don’t clearly describe the general nature of their organization.

Charity Watch report

NY Post article on recent California ruling

Nice going, guys! You’ve saved the antisemites the trouble of making stuff up! Nothing says “light unto the nations” like literally funding your religious activities by stealing from gentiles. (chef’s kiss)

Then these fuckers will tell me that I’m disgracing Judaism by being down with lesbian rabbis, and when antisemitism rises they will insist the only solution is to kill more Arabs.

They’ve also gotten in trouble in the past for being very opaque about what Kars4Kids is supporting.

Oregon: Charity misled donors, AG says

Minnesota attorney general finds that less than 1 percent of donations to Kars4Kids charity goes to Minnesota kids

It’s still useful.

Both links are very old, and I can’t link to the second one without a subscription.

That’s the point. That’s kind of what “in the past” means.

The text in the link is probably all you need to know, really. I just included the link to show it was a legit cite.

Not really germane to the thread title, but this question just popped into my head: What do the preachers who lead megachurches think of the term megachurch?

They think “megachurch=megabucks. Win!”

Ca-ching?

“God must love me. Look at what he gave me!”

I dunno; the word itself kinda carries the stench of self-aggrandizement. Is there any data on the question?

So you think megachurch preachers are averse to self-aggrandizement? That’s their whole shtick.

The fact that the constant requests for donations always seem to stress supporting “MY ministry” tells me prit’ near all I need to know about where the focus lies. Whom are we worshiping, again?

Mammon.

Granted; they’d likely deny that in public, though.

But their usual approach gives it all away.

To say nothing of self-reflection (lack of).
