Somebody inside the church reported the situation while it was happening; that alone puts it heads and shoulders over a lot of other look-the-other-way situations we only hear about years/decades after the fact.

Probably the monks. Most Catholic Churches, rectories, etc., are locally owned by the diocese, the religious order, etc.
This particular group are apparently sedevacantists of the “Vatican II was wrong and every pope since Paul VI is illegitimate” variety. They reconciled with the Church during Benedict’s papacy (because of COURSE he did) but have since gone off the deep end again. They were founded in 1988 and the founder is still their leader today, and he’s apparently going to be the one to be illegitimately elevated as a bishop, by another sedevacantist bishop who claims apostolic succession from the excommunicated brother of the late dictator of South Vietnam. This all comes shortly after one of the monks apparently drowned himself after the founder disavowed Vatican II and three others “escaped” their island hermitage (AFAIK, the monastery are the only inhabitants of the island, one of the smaller Orkneys) on a clandestine late-night sailing because they couldn’t countenance the heresy.
Tradcath stuff is WEIRD.
Last night, I learned about the existence of a group whose goal is to put a cross on the moon.
If people are having to escape from this island monastery, how are the local secular authorities not getting involved?

Scotland is the local authority. And I’m sure that Scotland has laws against kidnapping.

The church sign said “EVERYONE WELCOME.” Sorry, there are exceptions to that, and this is one of them.
In Atlanta the “Welcome All” or “Everyone Welcome” signs are typically a signal that they aren’t that kind of church, but I guess it might vary from place to place.
Gosh, instead of using those resources to feed the hungry, house the homeless, or even maintain their local buildings?
Credit where it’s due would be fine with me. Not one picture on that webpage is attributed to a photographer or copyrighted (perhaps I missed it? May be well hidden). They also show a Hubble Deep Field image, no copyright, no attribution either. Only in the URL if you open the picture in a new tab they mention where they took it from: Hubble. Not NASA. Even if NASA’s picures were public domain (are they?), you should say where you took them from in my book. There is another image of the same Rio de Janeiro Christ with a moon, only slightly askew and a different size on the top of the page. I am beginning to suspect there is some AI involved in this image.
No, that is not cool for me. Yes, it is a nice picture at first sight. But the ciscumstances… no, I don’t like it.

They are. All works created by the federal government, or employees of the federal government in the course of their employment, are automatically public domain. NASA also has a policy that all data collected from any NASA mission is publicly available at latest a year after it’s collected (the individuals in charge of particular missions can and often do choose to release it earlier, often immediately).
Given that, I’m not surprised to not see any attribution on a NASA image, even though it would be good form to include it. But you’re right that the lack of photo credits on the other images is an issue, and likely does indicate AI work. Which really should have occurred to me.
