On this day in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s -1c/30f out there today and not expected to change. Weather app says “It’s cold and every cloud is secretly telling you to fucking suck it”, and it’s cloudy.

I’m off work today and tomorrow which is convenient because the rail unions called a strike so it would be almost impossible to get to irk without taking half the day over it. Anyway, I had two days of leave to use before the end of the year and the uni closes on Friday for the break so it had to be this week.

gotti that is very scary news, and so sad for the people involved.

swampy delivery times are very strange, mine are often .43 past the hour for some reason! Enjoy the new mattress and springs, of course they’ll need thorough testing

nellie clever kitty! We used to joke about one of ours who probably only had two brain cells that were constantly chasing each other round her head but never caught up.

Seanette so good of you to take the strays in, and try to find them somewhere warm and safe for a while. Our local rescue centres are bursting at the seams with cats who’ve been abandoned by their owners, it’s getting hard to find space for them all.

Just had a call from the vet to say that Ophelia’s ashes have been returned from the crematorium, so I will have to go and collect them later. Another trip I don’t want to make :frowning:

And it looks like local shelters are not accepting healthy cats at this time. Gotta see if I can figure out which of my neighbors might be missing a cat or two (not that they’re apparently taking much care of their pets, since Mama can’t be more than 7-8 months old and may well be pregnant again).

People who don’t get their critters fixed should be flogged. And, frankly, I never understood the point of outdoor cats - “I want a cat, but only once in a while on my terms, and not on my furniture…” When we adopted ours, we agreed they’d be indoor cats only, and they were already fixed, so that wasn’t an issue. Irresponsible pet owners piss me off.

FCD didn’t get home till after 8. His dad couldn’t find his hearing aids yesterday, so there was lots of yelling, and “Huh?” “What?” over and over again. He was fried. I think he’s almost hoping he gets Covid so he has an excuse to avoid his parents. Tho they’d be screwed…And apparently BIL is downright combative and violent and uncooperative, so he’s constantly restrained, which he fights. I’m not sure why they don’t just drug him to keep him docile. It’s a horrible situation all around.

I had a fairly decent night so I feel semi-decent this morning. Nose is still drippy, but coughing has subsided somewhat. We’ll see what the rest of the day brings. I predict lots of recliner time again.

Happy Tuesday!

And pictures of my guests, of course.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of and cloudy for the day. We shall await the arrival of the matrress and box springs. In addition the bug man is comin’ to do his monthly thang and it’s laundry day. How ever will we be able to contain our excitement! Sup shall be leftover beast stroganoff. I shall make sallit and cheesey garlic bread to go with.

gotti YIKES! What a tragedy for all the folks involved.

sari I cannot imagine talkin’ to someone for five hours. Glad you made it to pt and glad for less dawg park drama.

nettie good on you for lookin’ after the kitties. Hope you find a suitable placement for both of 'em soonest.

Ace I would be overjoyed to get such a goody friends. Sounds mighty generous to me.

BooFae yay for time off irk! It will be a sad trip to pick up Ophelia’s ashes. I wish you peace.

MOOOOOOM here’s hopin’ FCD can catch a break soonest.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Good morning everyone,

FCM, I hope you’re starting to feel a little better today.

nettie, I hope you can find a solution for teenage mom kitty and kitten.

gotti, that is awful. I am glad they got the shooter and hope they get the robbers.

My daughter was reared ended yesterday while stopped to make a left hand turn into daycare. The guy was speeding (estimates were 50 MPH), didn’t have a license, and didn’t have insurance. The van is totaled, and so is his vehicle. They took him to the hospital. Fortunately, my daughter doesn’t seem to be seriously injured, but she noted later her neck was starting to hurt, and I told her to get herself checked out. I am so grateful the grandkids weren’t in the van too. Fortunately, my son-in-law was able to get there right away. Many witnesses stayed to give statements and help out, the offending driver stayed and waited for the police, and the sheriff’s department and police showed up. Not quite sure who had jurisdiction there, but it was the sheriff who issued the incident report. One of the officers also told my daughter the guy that hit her was going to receive a multitude of tickets. The van was nice. Fortunately, it did its job, and my daughter was somewhat protected. The guy hit my daughter so hard that the glass in the rear window blew out as well as the passenger side rear window. It’s completely totaled. I am worried that my daughter will be feeling quite a bit of pain today, but I know her sweetie will take care of her if needed, and I’ve already offered to help out if they need it. I can work from there too.

Yesterday, I was “officially” notified of the re-org by both my first and second-line supervisors. We were all smirking at each other because we know what a crappy thing this is. I did tell my second-line supervisor that I hoped I hadn’t made life difficult for her by speaking out in a very public forum on the reorganization, and she told me that she very much liked the fact that I was speaking up for all of us and that she had always appreciated that about me. She also told me that more people need to be like me, making me feel good. In other news, I WILL be exempt from the union; thus, I will remain a management official. Someone finally realized what a boneheaded move that was. Part of my duties is to be a management representative in union negotiations; I can’t do that as BU member, can I?

Ugh, I am looking forward to being off next week. I need to call and order my prime rib Christmas roast today. I’m a little behind on that.

We have three stray juvenile kitties that roam around here. They keep coming into the yard because of the birds. I think I know who owns them, but I am sick and tired of seeing them in my yard. I think it’s cruel to make them live outdoors. I also know the shelter won’t take them, but I will keep trying to find one.

Well, onward with the day. I’m hoping you all have a good day, or at least an easy one.

Good morning everyone. Storms n stuff for today. Not sure of the exact threat as the weather folk are having their typical freak-out shriek-out when confronted with anything other than sunlight. From their excitement, I gather we’re facing precision-guided ball-lightning, or maybe just rain. I couldn’t tell and I turned off the TV.

gotti: Wow! It’s scary when it hits close to home. Sorry it happened to you, and sorry it happened to anyone.

Taters: I guess I should wave and welcome your daughter to the December “Who’s been rear-ended?” club. Glad she’s OK, and hope no additional aches and pains appear. Dissipating that much energy in a short time has serious effects – sometimes not appearing for days. Also wishing the best for the inevitable showdown with insurance company(ies).

Taters, wow! Echoing others that daughter should get checked out soonest, sometimes things don’t show up immediately. And while others are praising you, never forget leading from the front is noble, but it also makes you an obvious target…

Yankers, I have a 100% forecast of rain tomorrow, so guess I’ll be getting hit a day later than you. Take care.

Seanette, beautiful cats, but it is a puzzlement what you’re going to do with them. Maybe someone in the area can take you to a shelter, provided you can find one?

ace, my calorie counter took a hit just reading your list; I think that’ll do just fine for your friends. And an early Happy Anniversary.

OK, need to break fast and then get my gym time in before the World Cup game. All y’all take care.

Worst case, I can probably find a Lyft driver who’ll let me transport cats (they would of course be in a carrier) or make use of the Envoy ride-share available in my complex. The big challenge is finding a place to take the poor girls (baby is definitely female and it’s quite obvious with Mama).

Metal MouseI was rewarded for speaking up by not getting the deputy position. :no_mouth: What actually happened was my director didn’t listen to me when I told her how the deputy positions were going to work, followed her vision, and now I pay the price. She was very surprised when she found out that she wasn’t in charge of that. I think she’s sort of kicking herself, but it doesn’t change the outcome. I will be gone as soon as I find the right job.

I know I make myself a target, but I pick and choose my battles. I don’t die on every hill, just the really big ones. Nearly 40 years of federal service have taught me a few things.

Thank you! Yeah, I can’t have any of the stuff I’m making, either. Well, I can have some of the cheese dip/spread.

Morning, everyone. Yet another gloomy one out there. It’s been gloomy for days, actually. It’s honestly brought down my mood.

Cute kitties, nettie!

I’ve got an eye exam at around 4 PM, so that’ll be fun (not actually).

nettie bless you for taking care of the waifs. Now I’m crying about the mama cat being freezing and starving.

Because we love the Waffle House, here is a link to a just released scholarly book about the WH and its impact on Southern society…

So Midnight jammed Yellow, and the boxes started flying, and knocked me down. Then they overloaded it. that thing is gonna go full Mount St. Helens one of these days.

“Yeah, once had a knife fight between a furry and a drag queen at the register. Now I chug a pint of Aristocrat vodka before every shift.”- Mabel, 3rd shift mamager, Waffle House #458

gotti, that’s awful.

Eek, glad daughter is not seriously hurt, even if the van is totaled.

Lasts night I had a bad choking episode. I swallowed wrong, apparently. I’ll spare you the icky details, but I coughed hard for almost an hour. Then I couldn’t get to sleep.

Amazon said a gift I ordered was delivered to my mailbox, but it wasn’t. They recommend waiting 48 hours to see if it shows up. It’s the last gift, and I’d like to finish wrapping and get everything to the PO today. I also need two more boxes. Oh, and it’s laundry day.

Taters, what a scary experience for your daughter. I hope she checks out OK. Since the other driver (I use the term loosely.) isn’t insured, will your daughter’s insurance cover the van? I hope you find an even better job soon.

Nettie, the kitties are beautiful. I wish I had a suggestion as to what to do with them. Can they get access to someone’s garage for a little shelter? Maybe if you post in NextDoor, someone will claim them?

GodBody, sorry the weather has you down.

Howdy Y’all! The new mattress (a word that looks wrong no mater now it’s spelled) and box springs arrived early. The delivery guys called and asked if they could come at ten-fifteen, so I said sure. Then the bug guy showed up at the same time. That was a fun-filled twenty minutes! Anywho, the bed is all made up with clean sheets even. Also, the laundry is done, so now we shall engage in champion level sloth.

Pulley this is why whenever rain or storms are predicted I always say rain/tstorms/apocalypse. TWPTB get all in a tizzy.

Taters glad daughter is OK and I fourth or fifth the idea that she go get checked out. Things can surface days after a hit like that. Hope she can get the van replaced soonest without a whole lot of insurance wranglin’.

GodBod the good thing about an eye exam is you don’t have to study for one. Hope it all goes good.

WetOne the idea of scholarly and Waffle House made me snort. What a weird thing to scholarly pontificate upon.

My rear end accident happened on Christmas Eve, 2017-put me in the club. Totaled my car and ended my being able to work due to the ensuing traumatic brain injury. You’re so right, those rear-end accidents can be so insidiously sneaky. I didn’t go to the doctor for two weeks. The at fault driver probably paid his reckless driving fine and has not thought about it since. My life was changed forever. Still fighting with insurance almost 5 years later.

I had my yearly skin check at the dermatologist’s, and it was clean.

But I had a mole on my earlobe that drives me nuts, because it interferes with my earring. It has been there for years, but I fibbed and told the doctor that it had just become big and firm over the last three months or so. That way she sliced it off for a biopsy and hopefully I won’t be charged for having a “cosmetic” procedure. We’ll see when the bill comes from insurance.

The frost was so heavy and white around here that in a lot of places it looked like it snowed. It seldom dips below freezing here, but it just barely did last night. I like it.

Tonight we’ll try again at a new pizza house that opened in town. We tried before, but it has been immensely popular and we couldn’t get in. I hope we do tonight; I could just do with a sausage and mushroom pizza for dinner.

Sloth? No, it’s brown chicken, brown cow time.
