The easiest way ever to make rice is to get a good rice cooker. You just throw in the rice and the water and a while later you have perfect rice. And the one the Tigers have is non-stick, too, so washing it up is a breeze!
I’m all mad at myself. Last weekend I got my left ear pierced – and I went to a real piercing place, and everything was nice and sanitary, and I followed the aftercare instructions I was given that I’ve used before on several other ear holes – and the damn thing went and got infected. It’s in the cartilage, too, which is not a place to mess around with if it infects. So yesterday I started heavy-duty antibiotics and in the last few hours it’s started looking better, and feeling waaaaay better. MT was actually pretty sympathetic; she knows I’ve done this before with no problem. I guess it just…happens. I shouldn’t have started reading horror stories online yesterday, though, I started envisioning having to have major ear surgery and having a messed-up looking ear. All because I wanted another silly earring. sigh
'Ullo, all. I am now an inpatient on the med/surg floor of local hospital. I have pneumonia. I am bored outta my mind. My kids just came by and brought me my computer, thank og, so I can do my school work (and talk to all of you). Doctor says I’ll be here over the weekend. Ugh.
{{{rigs}}} Dang! Just get better ok? I know the treatments they give for pneumonia these days clear things up pretty fast, but, you gotta take care of yourself for a few days, young lady! We cannot have you sick much longer.
At least you have your computer! I hope you feel better very soon. {{{rigs}}}
I got price tags so I can work some more on pricing my stuff. I have been beading all day. Mr. SCL has made two hanging pegboards and three necklace displays for me. I need to put the cloth on the necklace displays and paint the pegboards.
I will be so glad when this is over.
Did I tell ya’ll I added up the 99 items I have priced? Comes to just over $650.
Thanks, all. I am a bit teary eyed over here–and all because the Cool Kids here are so nice.
Memo to self: Rocephin and Zithromax make me nauseated. Ugh. So far I’m in a private room–the bed next to mine is empty. The staff have said that because I’m a nurse (and I"m nice, dammit) they’ll fill that bed last. It pays to be in the business sometimes…
OK, this sickness stuff needs to stop! Glad you don’t have much of a choice now but to get better, rigs. Hope it clears up quickly!
And more hugs for picu. I remember you telling us about Michael before.
Hi Taters! Nice to see you stop by. Too bad about the weather, though.
Sorry about FDIL’s situation, Bobbio. I’ll bet you’ve noticed that boys don’t like to communicate. My friend’s son just graduated from college and it’s been like pulling teeth to get him to call home or even respond to e-mail. Periodically, she just tells him that she needs to know that he’s still alive. Really nice kid; just forgets that parents worry from time to time.
I developed a headache at work today - mostly due to a couple of annoying co-workers. (Jahdra, I fear your old AC may have been cloned and sent to Ohio.)
Downtown Columbus is packed today, filled with people who are here for the NHL draft or for Comfest, which is about 3 blocks away from where the draft is taking place. It was fun to ride by on the way home.
Well, I’m going outside to garden for a while. Hoping that’ll make the headache go away and get my brain away from work and fully into the WEEKEND!!!
Aw, geez, {{{rigs}}} - get better. And enjoy the rest.
We had to take our digital converter back and get a replacement - all of a sudden today, we lost all the channels for the digital plus service - which meant all the movie channels. But the cable place was on the way to the marina, and we had to go get 2 more cushions, so it worked out. And we’ve got all our channels now. So yay.
Supper tonight is corn on the cob. It’s in the steamer right now. It looks good - hope it tastes good. Can’t wait for the local 'maters to show up at the Amish markets.
gt, AC has twelve brothers and sisters, of which she was the youngest. They’re primarily in Michigan, but they’ve all bred, so who knows where they all are now.
The workday is almost over, and it’s Friday! Woo hoo! We’re supposed to have more nice weather this weekend. Next week and the following week will be quite boring, work-wise. I’m hoping things pick up after the week of the 4th. If this keeps up, I’m going to have to figure out how to knit at my desk.
I really, really miss fresh from the garden tomatoes. I don’t know why I don’t just grow some in a container on my patio. The taste and texture are just so wonderful.
It looks like I need to get hair fixed up and head out to some pizza joint. They have some interesting pizzas and we’re anxious to try them out.
Well, the corn wasn’t all that impressive. Too early, or too imported. I doubt that it’s local corn because most of the fields around here haven’t even tassled yet.
Oh well, it wasn’t terrible and it was pretty easy, so there’s that.
picunurse–I just got caught up with the previous pages. I am so sorry for your loss. If it helps-vent it here or not. Whichever. We wll gladly listen.
Dinner was good. The nurses here are all very nice. I have looked at my homework, but the creative juice to write a paper is missing right now. The nausea passed as soon as the antibiotic infusion stopped. I get to look forward to more nausea tomorrow and Sunday-the doses are daily. They have BBCAmerica here, so I’m having a good time (we don’t have that one at home).
Congrats on getting jobs done, condolences on all that is not going well for everyone.
Ice cream sounds good about now. I wonder if I can get some from room service (yes, they actually have RS–their method of handling food service is fantastic). They give you a menu and you choose. 45 minutes later-you get your hot food. There is no mass passing out of food trays. My hospital could learn a lot from this one!
I did order a choc chip cookie for dessert. I am saving it for later. Bye now.
Chili is one of the few things I can make well.
I start with one of those large cans of crushed tomatoes in a stock pot.
I add:
I jar of mild salsa
fresh garlic (to taste)
dried herbs (oregano, basil, cilantro) to taste
a pinch of salt
crushed red pepper flakes (to taste)
bite sized pieces of portobello mushroom (1 cap is usually enough)
1 lb browned ground beef
1 can (drained) each red pinto beans, white pinto beans, and black beans
Let the whole thing simmer for two hours, stirring and adjusting the seasoning as you go.
(Usually I use twice as much of the beans, beef, and tomatoes, and sometimes more mushrooms and some browned stewing beef - I have a 10 quart stock pot) and freeze most of it in quart containers. It’s best the next day/week/month/whenever. Tastes great over pasta or rice.
