To everyone else, thanks for all the well wishes, they’re genuinely appreciated. I’ve been a mod for about 4.5 years, and quite frankly I thought it was long enough. There is, I can’t deny, a certain amount of repetition that comes with the job. And after a few years, one does lose enthusiasm a bit. Shootin’ trolls can get boring if they’re basically all the same.
Nevertheless, I’ve always enjoyed giving back to a message board that gave me so much enjoyment. It’s been a lot of fun, working with a group of genuinely smart and frickin’ hilarious staff members. But at the end of the day, I truly do believe that you can only do a gig for so long, and then you need to step aside to give someone else a shot at it. Preferably someone who has the same enthousiasm you had when you started the job yourself, all these years ago.
I certainly feel that Skippy’s that kinda guy.
As some of you know, my life has changed a fair bit over the past year or so. I got married, my wife moved over to the Netherlands. In addition, I got a lot busier at work. All in all, there just wasn’t that much spare time anymore to spend on the SDMB. Rather than become a “ghost mod”, I felt retiring was the fairer option.
We’re doing great here in Amsterdam, and I will indeed be enjoying my retirement. And hey, no worries, I’m still a poster. In fact, I can revert back to my pre-mod uncompromised acerbic self now. Muahahahaha.
