I’m making vegetable soup today. I used my new Instant Pot to make the beef broth yesterday and managed not to cause an explosion or anything. I’m cooking the vegetables in the broth on the stove, as some have longer cook times than others, and this seems easiest.
My neighbors have their living room big screen on loud, so I’m going to have to put on headphones or something while I chop. I tried pretending I was on the phone and yelling, “Sorry! I can’t hear you over my neighbors’ LOUD TV!” but they couldn’t hear me over their loud TV.
Wishing you all a wonderful year full of good health, good friends, and good times!
**FCD **and I went to Red Robin for lunch, and I forgot that I get a free burger during my b-day month, and I ordered a cheapie burger. dammit. But I still saved $7, so there’s that.
Time to resume the knit position. I’m working on a really ugly lap robe, since the yarn is really ugly. But it’ll be warm and it’s soft. Maybe the recipient will be colorblind and will like it.
Short vent — went out to check the fire and the semi-new neighbors pitbull came into the yard after me; second time. They won’t use a leash, won’t get a fence and the dog obeys their orders about as well as I would. Third time and I’m going to recreate the Norwegian Parrot Sketch but with a canine. Which will bother me to no end since it isn’t the dogs fault its owned by idiots and entitled asshole versions at that. I got an axe at the bottom of the steps and a .38 in my pocket and I am on my last good nerve.
I’m getting too old for their shit.
On the other hand all the food is coming along fine; so that’s a plus.
Collards and peas were perfect if I do say so. The biscuits were a little too brown on the bottom but we et them anyway. All food is stowed and dishwasher is doing its things. There shan’t be any cooking around here for days.
My throat is still sore. Head cold not too much but I am tired of the sore throat. Tis the first of the month and all that entails at irk. Not looking forward to tomorrow. I guess the holidays are officially over and I am happy about that.
Still didn’t take the tree down and won’t today. Maybe next weekend. Now it’s nap time.
Howdy Y’all! We ate. We drank. We made merry. Everyone left full and happy. Most importantly, they left. Kitchen is all cleanded up and dishwasher is dish washin’ away as I post. Major chillage now ensues. Tomorrow is OYKW’s bday so we shall feast on snausages and pancakes (his request) to break fast and, also his request, we shall go to the [del]hog trough[/del] Golden Corral for their old fart discount around three o’clock for late N.O.L./early sup. We know how to live it up, we do!
I think I’ve OD’d on News Radio, tho I did get a kick out of the episode where Jon Stewart was a guest star. Much knittage has been accomplished. I almost fell asleep at one point. I need an undisturbed night of sleep, if this stoopit cough would just subside.
Great New Years eve! A family invited me to share the tradition with them. Really an honor.
A traditional dish was prepared. The pan was maybe 16 inches by 32 inches. Consists of seven layers of white bread. With chicken and turkey, mayo and chilies layered. Then painted with a coating. Took five people two hours to prepare.
Then glass of champagne with 12 grapes swimming. And toasts!
Happy New Year! I had bacon and eggs for breakfast, then went to the barn. The barn manager got a Corgi puppy and my head about exploded. Made fettuccini with lemon cream sauce for lunch. Nummy! Sadly I must return to irk tomorrow.
I discovered that the county rec dept has a number of activities that Roxy can take. Sounds like a great chance for her to interact with kids her age. More research is in order.
Meanwhile, I had a can of whomp cinnamon rolls. They’re baking. They smell yummmmmmm!
All the various pig parts came out fantastic and nothing fresh had to die. I’ve got some nice rye in me and the world is good again. Shower and some nice sleep and tomorrow I have a combined Second Monday and Friday at the same time.
Mooooooom, a friend’s quilt guild takes part in a program called Ugly Covers (not sure if it’s local or national) that makes quilts and afghans for the homeless population. They are encouraged to focus on function over beauty (pretty things tend to disappear in some situations) and many use up their odds and ends for the project.
ruble, I sympathize about the neighbor dog. I felt the same way about the one that jumped Nelson the other night.
I worked in the studio today and then went to pick up a Marketplace buy about 2:30. I got a good deal, with enough stuff that I will use that was worth the $20 I paid, a scrapbooking cart that I will put on CL and Marketplace for $20 and some odds and ends that went into the box for a teacher friend who runs an after school program and makes good use of donated art supplies.
When I got home, I got the familiar feeling of a low BG and, sure enough, it was 57 when I took it. I made a snack of a mandarin and some cheese and began to feel better. Looking back, I didn’t eat much for breakfast when I took some insulin because of my indulgence last night, a simple salad for lunch and had been moving around a bit doing stuff. :smack: I know better than that.
Grocery store was out of greens, so I’m substituting spinach. With bacon. Watching the Rose Bowl. GO BADGERS! And since it’s the 20’s, I had a [del]bathtub[/del]gin martini. It was the bee’s knees.
They had pig races at The Winter Classic today. I assume the loser will be smoking this weekend.
And I have a neighbor like that.
Putrid throat indeed. I napped but woke feeling worse. I guess I shall have to visit the Doc in the morn if he is not on vacay. I need a tonsillectomy but he says those are not done on adults anymore and not even on children like they were back in the day.
Tired of it I am. Worst possible time to be sick. Maybe I shall just die overnight.
At the county fair where I lived last, they had pig races every half hour. Across from the pig races was the pork chop stand. Guess we know what happened to the losers.

Whatever are you talking about? I don’t remember any men wearing narrow black ties.
So much for a sunny morning, it was snurrying when I went out, & as you know, the sky is always grey when it’s snurrying &/or snowing but we did eventually have sun on the beach.
Good plunge, got changed & hung out for a while but they may not welcome me back once I get done asschewing employees at two different casinos. One for having a totally tattered & shredded 'Merican Flag flying & the other being a driver who thought pedestrians were bowling pins.
